Optical filtering is an indispensable part of fluorescence microscopy for selectively highlighting molecules labeled with a specific fluorophore and suppressing background noise. However, the utilization of optical filtering sets increases the complexity, size, and cost of microscopic systems, making them less suitable for multifluorescence channel, high-speed imaging. Here, we present filter-free fluorescence microscopic imaging enabled with deep learning-based digital spectral filtering. This approach allows for automatic fluorescence channel selection after image acquisition and accurate prediction of fluorescence by computing color changes due to spectral shifts with the presence of excitation scattering. Fluorescence prediction for cells and tissues labeled with various fluorophores was demonstrated under different magnification powers. The technique offers accurate identification of labeling with robust sensitivity and specificity, achieving consistent results with the reference standard. Beyond fluorescence microscopy, the deep learning-enabled spectral filtering strategy has the potential to drive the development of other biomedical applications, including cytometry and endoscopy. In recent years, the value of sports and other physical activities has increased considerably and the role of the coaches of sportsmen is essential in providing trainings to sportsmen to help them achieve their objectives and improve their performance. The purpose of this study is to understand the passion of sports coaches for their China with the aim of knowing which type of passions yield good performance among sportsmen. For this reason, the study seeks to study the Coaches' work passion in which harmonious and obsessive work passion was included, and to see its impact on performance of the sportsmen with mediating role of psychological empowerment. To achieve the objectives of this study, quantitative study was carried out in which questionnaires were filled out by respondents including coaches, trainers and sportsmen. After analyzing the questionnaires, it was revealed that there is significant and positive impact of harmonious work passion on the performance of the sportsmen, while in the case of obsessive work passion, the results showed that there is significant and a negative relation of obsessive work passion with the performance of sportsmen. This study contains both theoretical and practical insights that can help stakeholders in the sports sector determine how desired results (in terms of performance) can be obtained from the coaches' work passion. Aims: Baculoviral inhibitor of apoptosis repeat containing 5 (BIRC5) plays vital roles in carcinogenesis by influencing cell division and proliferation and by inhibiting apoptosis. However, the prognostic significance of BIRC5 remains unclear in breast cancer. Methods: BIRC5 expression and methylation status were evaluated using the Oncomine and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) databases. The relevance between BIRC5 and different clinicopathological features as well as survival information was analyzed using the bc-GenExMiner database and Kaplan–Meier Plotter. BIRC5–drug interaction network was obtained using the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database. Results: Based on the results from databases and own hospital data, BIRC5 was higher expressed in different breast cancer subtypes compared with the matched normal individuals. Hormone receptors were negatively correlated with BIRC5 expression, whereas the Scarff–Bloom–Richardson (SBR) grade, Nottingham Prognostic Index (NPI), human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER-2) status, basal-like status, and triple-negative status were positively related to BIRC5 level in breast cancer samples with respect to normal tissues. High BIRC5 expression was responsible for shorter relapse-free survival, worse overall survival, reduced distant metastasis free survival, and increased risk of metastatic relapse event. BIRC5–drug interaction network indicated that several common drugs could modulate BIRC5 expression. Furthermore, a positive correlation between BIRC5 andcell-division cycle protein 20 (CDC20) gene was confirmed. Conclusion: BIRC5 may be adopted as a promising predictive marker and potential therapeutic target in breast cancer. A theoretical model is proposed to analyze the time-domain spectral phase en/decoding and evaluate the unconditional security of the optical code-based secure optical communication systems with DPSK modulation. The confidentiality of the systems with and without bitby- bit code scrambling technique is investigated. It mathematically proves that the system without code scrambling lacks confidentiality and the system employing code scrambling can realize unconditionally secure transmission. Furthermore, encoding only within the central band of the spectrum is sufficient for perfect secrecy, and the secrecy rate can be potentially improved. This paper makes a statistical analysis through literature method, video observation method, expert interview method and mathematical statistics method to the relevant data of the women Taekwondo leg technique application in the 12th National Games and the 31 Olympic Games. Based on this, from the success rate, the effect and the tendency in the international competition of the leg techniques to compare and analyze the application of Chinese and foreign women Taekwondo athlete's leg techniques in the game. Through the analysis, it can be found that there is a certain gap between the overall level of Chinese women Taekwondo athlete's leg techniques and the advanced international level, and the defense ability is weak for the conventional leg techniques, and lack of distinctive technical and tactical characteristics in the application of technology and tactics, especially high difficulty and innovation techniques significantly behind. High difficult and innovative leg techniques may be the key to scoring and winning in future international Taekwondo match, and the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions are proposed. In all-optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (AO-OFDM) systems, symbol time misalignment (STM) and subcarrier frequency offset (ScFO) result in intercarrier-interference and intersymbol interference, leading to degradation of bit error rate (BER) performance. In this study, an analytical study of the impacts of STM and ScFO on AO-OFDM system performance is conducted. In the presence of STM and ScFO, AO-OFDM system performance is evaluated with the number of subcarriers (NSC), cyclic prefix requirements and receiver bandwidth (BWRX). For AOOFDM system without CP, results show that the STM gives higher BER than the ScFO. To keep the BER below 10-3 in AO-OFDM systems with on-off keying-modulated three optical subcarriers and homodyne detection with BWRX = 30 GHz, the maximum acceptable relative deviations for the STM and the ScFO are 11 and 14%, respectively. We propose a general information-theoretic approach to semi-supervised metric learning called SERAPH (SEmi-supervised metRic leArning Paradigm with Hypersparsity) that does not rely on the manifold assumption. Given the probability parameterized by aMahalanobis distance,we maximize its entropy on labeled data and minimize its entropy on unlabeled data following entropy regularization. For metric learning, entropy regularization improves manifold regularization by considering the dissimilarity information of unlabeled data in the unsupervised part, and hence it allows the supervised and unsupervised parts to be integrated in a natural and meaningful way. Moreover, we regularize SERAPH by trace-norm regularization to encourage low-dimensional projections associated with the distance metric. The nonconvex optimization problem of SERAPH could be solved efficiently and stably by either a gradient projection algorithm or an EM-like iterative algorithm whose M-step is convex. Experiments demonstrate that SERAPH compares favorably with manywell-known metric learning methods, and the learnedMahalanobis distance possesses high discriminability even under noisy environments. Background: Although conventional adenocarcinoma accounts for the majority of prostatic carcinomas, it is important to recognize rare variants, like basal cell carcinoma (BCC), which has distinctive histopathological and biological features. Case report: We analyzed three cases of prostatic BCC and all of them complained of acute urinary retention and digital rectal examination disclosed a stony hard prostate. However, all of them presented with low prostate-specific antigen. The diagnosis relied on transrectal ultrasound-guided needle biopsies or transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). The microscopic findings suggested basaloid cells with large pleomorphic nuclei and scant cytoplasm, showing peripheral palisading and forming solid nests, and immunohistochemical markers like 34βE12, p63 and Ki67 staining, were positive. The large volume principle proposed by Vladimir Vapnik, which advocates that hypotheses lying in an equivalence class with a larger volume are more preferable, is a useful alternative to the large margin principle. In this paper, we introduce a new discriminative clustering model based on the large volume principle called maximum volume clustering (MVC), and then propose two approximation schemes to solve this MVC model: A soft-label MVC method using sequential quadratic programming and a hard-label MVC method using semi-definite programming, respectively. The proposed MVC is theoretically advantageous for three reasons. The optimization involved in hard-label MVC is convex, and under mild conditions, the optimization involved in soft-label MVC is akin to a convex one in terms of the resulting clusters. Secondly, the soft-label MVC method possesses a clustering error bound. Thirdly, MVC includes the optimization problems of a spectral clustering, two relaxed k-means clustering and an information-maximization clustering as special limit cases when its regularization parameter goes to infinity. Background: Angiomatous nasal polyps (ANPs), also known as angiectatic polyps, have rarely been reported in the literature. ANPs are characterized by extensive vascular proliferation and ectasia. ANPs can grow rapidly and exhibit aggressive clinical behavior that could simulate malignancy preoperatively, and they are easily confused with other diseases. In the present study, we analyzed the correlation between the computed tomography (CT) findings of nasal angiomatous polyps and their pathological features. Methods: We evaluated CT findings and pathological features of 31 surgically proven ANPs. Results: The study population included 16 males and 15 females aged between 27 and 81 years (mean age, 53.5 years). On CT, the masses were heterogeneous; they had a soft tissue density and filled the maxillary and/or nasal cavities. Calcifications were found in 2 of the 31 cases. The lesions showed a clear boundary (15/31). The low-density shading on CT was related to the inflammatory, necrotic, and cystic changes, and the high-density shading on CT was related to hemorrhagic areas of the mass. On contrast-enhanced CT, the center of the lesions was non-enhanced with peripheral intensification due to occlusion or compression of feeder vessels of the polyp center, and the inflammatory cells and neovascularization around the edge of the mass. The most common site of maxillary wall erosion was the medial wall (21/ 31), followed by the posterior lateral wall (3/31), upper wall (2/31), and septum (3/31). Of these, the nasal cavity and/or maxillary sinus were enlarged in 28 cases. These findings were associated with the chronic progress of nasal angiomatous changes. Conclusions: CT of ANPs may demonstrate benign bone changes associated with the lesions and may also reflect the fact that ANPs do not invade peripheral soft tissue. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the activation level of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signalling pathway in Chinese patients with prostate cancer, as this pathway is over-activated in many human cancers and is an attractive target for cancer therapy. PATIENTS AND METHODS We used immunohistochemistry to investigate the activation level of five important markers of the mTOR pathway, including PTEN, p-Akt, p-mTOR, p-p70S6K and p-4E-BP1, in tissues from 182 patients with prostate cancer, 20 with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and 10 with high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN). The expression levels of these five markers were associated with patient clinical and pathological characteristics. RESULTS Expression levels of p-Akt, p-mTOR, p-4E-BP1 and p-p70S6K were significantly higher in prostate cancer tissues than in BPH and HGPIN tissues. In 182 patients with prostate cancer the p-mTOR expression level significantly and positively correlated with its upstream p-Akt and downstream p-4E-BP1 and p-p70S6K expression levels. The cancer Gleason score was significantly correlated with p-Akt and p-mTOR expression level but not with p-4E-BP1 and p-p70S6K expression level. However, the p-4E-BP1and p-p70S6K expression levels in primary cancer lesions were statistically significantly correlated with patient T stage and distant metastases. CONCLUSIONS Most patients with prostate cancer have at least one component of the mTOR signalling pathway activated. The activation of the mTOR pathway might be involved in prostate cancer development and progression. The association between activation of mTOR pathway and patient clinicopathological variables suggested that not all patients are equally amenable to treatment strategies targeting the mTOR pathway. Background: Intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL) is an extremely rare type of malignant lymphoma characterized by exclusive or predominant growth of neoplastic cells within the lumen of blood vessels. Cases in the literature predominantly involve the skin and central nervous system, with special emphasis on the ‘cutaneous variant’. Methods: Three cases of IVLBCL with cutaneous manifestations, including two systemic IVLBCL and one cutaneous variant, were described in this study. In all cases, clinical presentation and follow-up data were meticulously evaluated and immunophenotypic and molecular studies were performed. Results: All three cases displayed the B-cell phenotype and showed monoclonality with immunoglobulin heavy chain gene rearrangement. Bcl2 was expressed in the two systemic IVLBCL cases with fatal outcomes. The third patient with the ‘cutaneous variant’ achieved complete remission and a longer survival time of 15 months after chemotherapy. Conclusions: Skin manifestations and neurological findings, although to different degrees, are important clues to the diagnosis of IVLBCL. As most IVLBCL are grouped into the post-germinal center B-cell subtype of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, Bcl2 expression may be correlated with a worse prognosis in IVLBCL. Aims: To elucidate the clinicopathological, immunophenotypic and molecular features of neutrophil/eosinophil-rich primary cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma (CALCL), and to emphasize the cutaneous manifestations, differential diagnosis and prognosis of this peculiar entity. Methods and results: We described the clinical presentations, histopathology, immunophenotype, molecular features and follow-up courses of nine neutrophil/eosinophil-rich CALCL cases. Various clinical lesions including multiple nodules, plaques and solitary exophytic masses with or without ulceration or crusting were noted in nine patients. Two patients died of disease progression, with one developing multiple lymph node involvement. Histologically, cohesive sheets or small clusters of neoplastic cells were admixed with large numbers of neutrophils and/or eosinophils, representing 10–40% of cells per high-power field. All nine cases showed T-cell phenotypes. The frequency of rearranged TCRB, TCRG and TCRD genes in six cases with available paraffin-embedded tissue was 100%, 83% and 33%, respectively. Conclusions: Neutrophil/eosinophil-rich CALCL should be differentiated from various infectious and non-infectious diseases, especially from non-neoplastic cutaneous CD30+ infiltrates rich in neutrophils and eosinophils. Precise correlation of clinical presentation, morphological features, phenotypic and molecular analysis can help to establish the correct diagnosis. A series of D-π-A-π-D type of near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent compounds based on benzobis(thiadiazole) and its selenium analogues were synthesized and fully characterized by 1H and 13C NMR, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. The absorption, fluorescence, and electrochemical properties were also studied. Photoluminescence of these chromophores ranges from 900 to 1600 nm and their band gaps are between 1.19 and 0.56 eV. Replacing the sulfur by selenium can lead to a red shift for emission and reduce the band gaps further. Interestingly, compound 1exhibits aggregation-induced emission enhancement effect in the solid state. All-organic light-emitting diodes based on M1and M2were made and exclusive NIR emissions above 1 μm with external quantum efficiency of 0.05% and maximum radiance of 60 mW Sr −1m −2were observed. In order to improve the sowing performance of air-pressure maize dense planting high-speed precision seed-metering device and reduce the occurrence of multiple and missed seeds phenomenon, a seed-cleaning mechanism with progressive seed scraper was designed. The structure and working principle of the seed- metering device and seed-cleaning mechanism are described, the mechanical model before and after the excess seed enters the seed cleaning area is established, and the design parameters of the key components of the seed-cleaning mechanism are determined through the method of theoretical analysis. The experiments of single-factor and multi-factor are conducted with seed clearing angle, operating speed, positive pressure value of blower as influencing factors, and with qualified index, miss index, multiple index as the experimental indexes. The results show that the optimal seed-clearing performance parameter combination of the seed-cleaning mechanism is seed-clearing angle of 0.024°, operating speed of 10 km/h, positive pressure value of 6.0 kPa, verification test of the parameter combination of the qualified index of 98.11%, multiple index of 1.44%, miss index of 0.45%. In the comparative experiment, the qualified index of the device with seed-cleaning mechanism increased by about 2.3% compared to the device without seed-cleaning mechanism, and the multiple index decreased by about 2.2%. The seed-cleaning mechanism is reasonably designed to meet the seed clearing operation requirements of air-pressure maize dense planting high-speed precision seed- metering device. Concentration gradient generation and mixed combinations of multiple solutions are of great value in the field of biomedical research. However, existing concentration gradient generators for single or two-drug solutions cannot simultaneously achieve multiple concentration gradient formations and mixed solution combinations. Furthermore, the whole system was huge, and required expensive auxiliary equipment, which may lead to complex operations. To address this problem, we devised a novel 3D microchannel network design, which is capable of creating all the desired mixture combinations and concentration gradients of given small amounts of the input solutions. As a proof of concept, the device we presented was verified by both colorimetric and fluorescence detection methods to test the efficiency. This can enable the implementation of one to three solutions with no driving pump and facilitate unique multiple types of more concentration gradients and mixture combinations in a single operation. We envision that this will be a promising candidate for the development of simplified methods for screening of the appropriate concentration and combination, such as various drug screening applications. The mechanisms played by Ag as a surfactant in giant magnetoresistance multilayers were investigated using interface sensitive x-ray anomalous scattering techniques. Analysis on [Cu/Ni70Co30]20 and [Cu/Ag/Ni70Co30]20 multilayers revealed that 6 Å thick NiCu and 6 Å thick CuNi3Co intermixing regions are formed at the Ni70Co30-on-Cu interfaces of undoped and Ag-doped multilayers, respectively. The Cu-on-Ni70Co30 interfaces in both multilayers are sharp. Annealing causes severe diffusion across both types of interfaces in the undoped multilayer. But the interfaces in the Ag-doped multilayer do not change significantly upon annealing, except that Ag atoms diffuse into the whole Ni70Co30 layer and some parts of the Cu layer. The results suggest that addition of Ag during the deposition suppresses interfacial intermixing. X-ray diffuse scattering profiles show that the interfacial lateral correlation length of the Ag-doped multilayer is longer than that of the undoped multilayer and does not change significantly after annealing, suggesting that the addition of Ag gives rise to smoother interfaces and results in a good thermal stability. A high-pulse-energy high-beam-quality tunable Ti:sapphire laser pumped by a frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser is demonstrated. Using a fused-silica prism as the dispersion element, a tuning range of 740–855 nm is obtained. At an incident pump energy of 774 mJ, the maximum output energy of 104 mJ at 790 nm with a pulse width of 100 μs is achieved at a repetition rate of 5 Hz. To the best of our knowledge, it is the highest pulse energy at 790 nm with pulse width of hundred micro-seconds for an all-solid-state laser. The linewidth of output is 0.5 nm, and the beam quality factor M2 is 1.16. The high-pulse-energy high-beam-quality tunable Ti:sapphire laser in the range of 740–855 nm can be used to establish a more accurate and consistent absolute scale of second-order optical-nonlinear coefficients for KBe2BO3F2 measured in a wider wavelength range and to assess Miller’s rule quantitatively. Lead exposure contributing to cardiovascular diseases is known and recognized widely. As the deleterious effects of low lead exposure attained increasing attention over the last decades, there have been numerous studies exploring the association of low levels of lead exposure and cardiovascular diseases. Moreover, it has been observed that lead exposure could cause telomere shortening and lipid disturbance, and that telomere shortening and lipid disturbance are closely related with cardiovascular diseases. Hence, telomere shortening and lipid disturbance might play an important role in the pathophysiological process of chronic low levels of lead exposure contributing to cardiovascular diseases. This review is intended to explore views of the rarely mentioned mechanism, telomere shortening and lipid disturbance, and the cardiovascular effects of low levels of lead exposure. Presented in the paper is the design, the simulation, the fabrication and the experiment of a new z-axis resonant accelerometer based on the electrostatic stiffness. The new z-axis resonant micro-accelerometer, which consists of a torsional accelerometer and two plane resonators, decouples the sensing movement of the accelerometer from the oscillation of the plane resonators by electrostatic stiffness, which will improve the performance. The new structure and the sensitive theory of the acceleration are illuminated, and the equation of the scale factor is deduced under ideal conditions firstly. The Ansys simulation is implemented to verify the basic principle of the torsional accelerometer and the plane resonator individually. The structure simulation results prove that the effective frequency of the torsional accelerometer and the plane resonator are 0.66 kHz and 13.3 kHz, respectively. Then, the new structure is fabricated by the standard three-mask deep dry silicon on glass (DDSOG) process and encapsulated by parallel seam welding. Finally, the detecting and control circuits are designed to achieve the closed-loop self-oscillation, to trace the natural frequency of resonator and to measure the system frequency. Experimental results show that the new z-axis resonant accelerometer has a scale factor of 31.65 Hz/g, a bias stability of 727 µg and a dynamic range of over 10 g, which proves that the new z-axis resonant micro-accelerometer is practicable. We postulated that the combination of overexpression of CXCR4 in mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) with diprotin A would enhance MSC recruitment and penetration into ischemic myocardium, leading to an improvement in heart function after myocardial infarction (MI). Male rat MSC were genetically engineered with adenoviral vectors coexpressing CXCR4 and enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) (MSCCXCR4), GFP alone (MSCNull, control), or siRNA-targeted CXCR4 (MSCsiRNA). Cell sheets were applied over the surface of infarcted left ventricle (LV) in female rats 7 days after ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) pretreated with either vehicle (VEH) or diprotin A (DIP). At 28 days after cell sheet implantation, echocardiography was performed. Hearts were harvested for histological analysis 7 days after LAD ligation or 28 days after cell sheet implantation. DPP-IV and stroma-derived factor-1α (SDF-1α) in the LV were analyzed. Efficacy of engraftment was determined by the presence of Y chromosome in nuclei (Ych+). LV blood vessel density and apoptosis were also analyzed. Myocardial SDF-1α was elevated before placement of the cell sheet in the DIP group compared with vehicle group on day 7 after LAD. On day 28 after cell sheet transplantation, the number of Ych+ was increased in the MSCCXCR4 + VEH group compared with the MSCNull + VEH group and further increased in the MSCCXCR4 + DIP treated group. This enhanced response was associated with increased angiogenesis in both sides of epicardium and improvement of LV function. Combination of gene-manipulated MSCCXCR4 patch with DIP pretreatment inhibits myocardial ischemia-induced apoptosis, promotes tissue angiogenesis, and enhances cell engraftment, leading to improved LV mechanical function after MI. Background: Primary urethral carcinoma (PUC) is a rare genitourinary malignancy with a relatively poor prognosis. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of surgery on survival of patients diagnosed with PUC.Methods: A total of 1544 PUC patients diagnosed between 2004 and 2016 were identified based on the SEER database. The Kaplan-Meier estimate and the Fine and Gray competing risks analysis were performed to assess overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific mortality (CSM). The multivariate Cox regression model and competing risks regression model were used to identify independent risk factors of OS and cancer-specific survival (CSS).Results: The 5-yr OS was significantly better in patients who received either local therapy (39.8%) or radical surgery (44.7%) compared to patients receiving no surgery of the primary site (21.5%) (p < 0.001). Both local therapy and radical surgery were each independently associated with decreased CSM, with predicted 5-yr cumulative incidence of 45.4 and 43.3%, respectively, compared to 64.7% for patients receiving no surgery of the primary site (p < 0.001). Multivariate analyses demonstrated that primary site surgery was independently associated with better OS (local therapy, p = 0.037; radical surgery, p < 0.001) and decreased CSM (p = 0.003). Similar results were noted regardless of age, sex, T stage, N stage, and AJCC prognostic groups based on subgroup analysis. Plant fertilization involves both an egg cell, which fuses with a sperm cell, and synergid cells, which guide pollen tubes for sperm cell delivery. Therefore, egg and synergid cell functional specifications are prerequisites for successful fertilization. However, how the egg and synergid cells, referred to as the "egg apparatus," derived from one mother cell develop into distinct cell types remains an unanswered question. In this report, we show that the final position of the nuclei in female gametophyte determines the cell fate of the egg apparatus. We established a live imaging system to visualize the dynamics of nuclear positioning and cell identity establishment in the female gametophyte. We observed that free nuclei should migrate to a specific position before egg apparatus specialization. Artificial changing in the nuclear position on disturbance of the actin cytoskeleton, either in vitro or in vivo, could reset the cell fate of the egg apparatus. We also found that nuclei of the same origin moved to different positions and then showed different cell identities, whereas nuclei of different origins moved to the same position showed the same cell identity, indicating that the final positions of the nuclei, rather than specific nucleus lineage, play critical roles in the egg apparatus specification. Furthermore, the active auxin level was higher in the egg cell than in synergid cells. Auxin transport inhibitor could decrease the auxin level in egg cells and impair egg cell identity, suggesting that directional and accurate auxin distribution likely acts as a positional cue for egg apparatus specialization. The nudix hydroxylase (NUDT) family of genes may have notable roles in cancer growth and metastasis. The present study aimed to determine the prognostic ability of NUDT genes in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Data from 509 patients with ccRCC was obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and 192 patient samples from Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center (FUSCC) were analyzed in the present study. The expression profile of NUDT gene family members in the TCGA cohort was obtained from the TCGA RNA sequencing database. Pathological characteristics, including age, sex, tumor size, tumor grade, stage, laterality and overall survival were collected. Cox proportional hazards regression model and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis were performed to assess the associations between pathological characteristics and expression levels of NUDT family genes. NUDT family genes that exhibited associations with overall survival (OS) were further validated in the FUSCC cohort. In the TCGA cohort, Cox proportional hazards analysis found that NUDT5 [hazards ratio (HR)=1.676; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.097-2.559] and NUDT17 (HR=1.375; 95% CI, 1.092-1.732) were predictive of ccRCC prognosis. Further analysis revealed that low NUDT5 (P<0.0001) and NUDT17 (P<0.0001) expression were associated with poorer OS rates in the TCGA cohort. In the FUSCC cohort, low NUDT5 expression was also associated with poor OS rates (P=0.0116), and tumor grade was a factor that influenced the expression level of NUDT5 (P=0.016). A series of N-(3-((1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridin-5-yl)ethynyl)benzenesulfonamides were designed as the first class of highly selective ZAK inhibitors. The representative compound 3h strongly inhibits the kinase activity of ZAK with an IC50 of 3.3 nM and dose-dependently suppresses the activation of ZAK downstream signals in vitro and in vivo, while it is significantly less potent for the majority of 403 nonmutated kinases evaluated. In visual tracking, deep learning with offline pretraining can extract more intrinsic and robust features. It has significant success solving the tracking drift in a complicated environment. However, offline pretraining requires numerous auxiliary training datasets and is considerably time-consuming for tracking tasks. To solve these problems, a multiscale sparse networks-based tracker (MSNT) under the particle filter framework is proposed. Based on the stacked sparse autoencoders and rectifier linear unit, the tracker has a flexible and adjustable architecture without the offline pretraining process and exploits the robust and powerful features effectively only through online training of limited labeled data. Meanwhile, the tracker builds four deep sparse networks of different scales, according to the target's profile type. During tracking, the tracker selects the matched tracking network adaptively in accordance with the initial target's profile type. It preserves the inherent structural informationmore efficiently than the single-scale networks. Additionally, a corresponding update strategy is proposed to improve the robustness of the tracker. Extensive experimental results on a large scale benchmark dataset show that the proposed method performs favorably against state-of-the-art methods in challenging environments. A novel narrow-band tunable transmission filter based on a sub-wavelength metallic grating incorporating polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) with a tunable range of 47.2 nm is demonstrated. The transmission peak wavelength can be tuned from 1524.9 to 1572.1 nm when the refractive index of the PDLC layer is varied by different applying voltages. More than 95% transmission efficiency can be achieved at the resonant wavelength, while the -3 dB bandwidth is about 1.6 nm. In addition, the resonant wavelength of the filter varies in a linear fashion with regard to the refractive index of the PDLC layer. Malignant ureteral obstruction (MUO) is an unpropitious sign that is commonly observed in patients with advanced incurable cancer. The present study aimed to evaluate predictive factors for the failure of retrograde ureteral stent insertion in the management of MUO in outpatients. A total of 164 patients with MUO were retrospectively assessed in this study. Clinical factors, including age, gender, type of malignancy, level of obstruction, cause of obstruction, pre-operative creatinine level, degree of hydronephrosis, condition of the contralateral ureter, prior radiotherapy, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (ECOG PS), bladder wall invasion and technical failure, were recorded for each case. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to investigate the risk factors for predicting the failure of retrograde ureteral stent insertion. In total, 38 out of 164 patients experienced bilateral obstruction, therefore, a total of 202 ureteral units were available for data analysis. The rate of insertion failure in MUO was 34.65%. Multivariate analyses identified ECOG PS, degree of hydronephrosis and bladder wall invasion as independent predictors for insertion failure. Overall, the present study found that rate of retrograde ureteral stent insertion failure is high in outpatients with MUO, and that ECOG PS, degree of hydronephrosis and bladder invasion are potential independent predictors of insertion failure. We develop an inertial-based microfluidic cell sorter combined with an integrated membrane filter, allowing for size-based, label-free, and high-efficiency separation and enrichment of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in whole blood. The cell sorter is composed of a double spiral microchannel that hydrodynamically focuses and separates large CTCs from small blood cells. The focused CTCs with the equilibrium position around the midline of microchannel are further captured and enriched by a membrane filter (pore size of 8 µm) attached at the middle outlet This integrated microfluidic device can process 1 mL of whole blood containing spiked tumor cells (AS49, human lung adenocarcinoma epithelial cell line) within 15 min, with the capture efficiency of 74.4% at the concentration as low as tens of A549 cells per mL of whole blood. This microfluidic cell sorter is further adopted for isolation of CTCs from peripheral blood samples of patients with metastatic lung cancer. The immunostaining and CK-19 mRNA detection are applied for identification of captured CTCs, showing that our method can detect 90% of metastatic lung cancer patients before therapy, whereas the commercially used system can only detect 40% of the same patients. We also use the expression of CK-19 mRNA from captured CTCs as an indicator for monitoring the therapeutic efficiency, which correlates well with X-ray computed tomography (CT) assessment of the disease. In this study, backward and forward fluorescence radiance within the emission spectrum of 640-850 nm were measured for leaves of soybean, cotton, peanut and wheat using a hyperspectral spectroradiometer coupled with an integration sphere. Fluorescence parameters of crop leaves were retrieved from the leaf hyperspectral measurements by inverting the FluorMODleaf model, a leaf-level fluorescence model able to simulate chlorophyll fluorescence spectra for both sides of leaves. This model is based on the widely used and validated PROSPECT (leaf optical properties) model. Firstly, a sensitivity analysis of the FluorMODleaf model was performed to identify and quantify influential parameters to assist the strategy for the inversion. Implementation of the Extended Fourier Amplitude Sensitivity Test (EFAST) method showed that the leaf chlorophyll content and the fluorescence lifetimes of photosystem I (PSI) and photosystem II (PSII) were the most sensitive parameters among all eight inputs of the FluorMODleaf model. Based on results of sensitivity analysis, the FluorMODleaf model was inverted using the leaf fluorescence spectra measured from both sides of crop leaves. In order to achieve stable inversion results, the Bayesian inference theory was applied. The relative absorption cross section of PSI and PSII and the fluorescence lifetimes of PSI and PSII of the FluorMODleaf model were retrieved with the Bayesian inversion approach. Results showed that the coefficient of determination (R²) and root mean square error (RMSE) between the fluorescence signal reconstructed from the inverted fluorescence parameters and measured in the experiment were 0.96 and 3.14 × 10-6 W·m-2·sr-1·nm-1, respectively, for backward fluorescence, and 0.92 and 3.84 × 10-6 W·m-2·sr-1·nm-1 for forward fluorescence. Background: The aim of this study is to assess the prognosis of prostate cancer (PCa) with lymph node metastases (LNM) detected in pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) after radical prostatectomy (RP) and adjuvant androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) in a Chinese population. Methods: From June 2005 to September 2012, the medical histories of 67 Chinese PCa patients with LNM detected after RP and extended PLND were collected, and all these patients received continuous adjuvant ADT. Postoperative survival was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. The impact of various clinicopathological factors on outcome was analyzed using Cox proportional hazard regression models. All tests were two-sided with P < 0.05 considered significant. Results: Median follow-up was 46.7 months, and two patients were lost to follow-up. Five-year event-free survival for patients with positive lymph nodes was 93.0%, 83.0%, and 96.0% for local recurrence, systemic progression, and cancer death, respectively. One-year, 2-year, and 3-year biochemical recurrence (BCR)-free survival was 52%, 40%, and 22%, respectively. Postoperative BCR-free survival was 25.7 months. BCR-free survival for patients with a single LNM was longer than those with two or more LNM (median 39.1 months vs. median 17.2 months, P = 0.002). In a multivariate Cox model, only two or more LNM was a significant predictor of BCR (hazard ratio 2.6, P = 0.005). Conclusions: Despite low BCR-free survival, Chinese patients with LNM can benefit from RP and adjuvant ADT. Patients with low nodal metastatic burden had a favorable prognosis. The optimal time to perform bone scan to detect new metastasis during the castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) stage remains undefined. This study attempted to identify predictors of progression of bone scan for CRPC, and use such information to develop a nomogram to predict the optimal time of examinations for bone scan. The analysis included 167 CRPC patients. Progression of bone lesion, as evaluated by bone scan, occurred in 64 (38.3%) cases. A logistic regression identified the following three risk factors: short time to prostate-specific antigen (PSA) progression, severe pain, and short PSA doubling time (PSADT) (P<0.05 for all). A nomogram model was constructed to predict progression of bone scan using time to PSA progression and severe pain as dichotomized variables and PSADT as a continuous variable. The result indicated that a predictive nomogram model showed a bootstrap-corrected concordance index of 0.762 and good calibration using the three readily available variables, and there were worse prognosis and higher progression rate of bone scan for patients with time to PSA progression <6.6 months, severe pain, and short PSADT (<2 months). In conclusion, short time to PSA progression, severe pain, and short PSADT are three risk factors of progression of bone scan for CRPC patients. Background: Bladder cancer is the second most common genitourinary malignancy. Our study was to introduce a standardized surgical procedure of retrograde radical cystectomy and consequent peritoneal cavity reconstruction in localized male bladder cancer. Methods: Eighty-four consecutive male patients with localized bladder cancer (clinical stage T2 or lower) underwent surgery in our institute with the proposed procedure between May 2012 and April 2013. Median age was 65 years (range, 35 to 83 years); patient characteristics, surgical parameters, perioperative complications, pathology, and short-term prognosis were analyzed. Median follow-up was 24 months (range, 18 to 30 months). Results: The complete procedure including urinary diversion took 4.0 h (2.2 to 5.0 h), with a median exposed peritoneal cavity of 45 min (0 to 75 min); the median blood loss was 140 ml (50 to 600 ml), and 2 patients needed transfusion; neurovascular bundles were reserved in 76 cases; the median abdominal and pelvic drainage was 9.0 days (6 to 15 days), the median gastrointestinal recovery was 2.5 days (1 to 12 days), and the median postoperative hospital stay was 13.0 days (10 to 21 days). Four patients had severe surgical complications, and two had mild to moderate ileus, with recovery in 1 and 2 weeks with supportive treatment. No perioperative deaths or postoperative recurrence were reported. Conclusions: The surgical procedure in male localized bladder cancer described in the present study provided surgical facilities, with limited abdominal organ disturbance and satisfactory tumor control. Lipomas are very common benign adipose tissue tumors that most often develop in subcutaneous tissue. A limited number of studies have described the characteristics of parosteal ossifying lipomas located in the fibula, cervical vertebrae and mandible. However, to the best of our knowledge, parosteal ossifying lipoma of the clavicle has not yet been reported. We herein describe the clinical symptoms, radiological and histological findings in a rare case of parosteal ossifying lipoma of the clavicle in a 40-year-old male patient. The characteristic histological appearance, together with computed tomography and/or magnetic resonance imaging characteristics, should aid in the accurate diagnosis of such cases. The current study presents a case of extranodal follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) of the tonsil and reviews the relevant literature. In the present case, a 59-year-old male presented with a globus sensation in the right pharynx for 6 weeks. On clinical examination, a painless non-ulcerated enlarged right tonsil was identified; the tonsil was covered with a normal mucus membrane. A right tonsillectomy was performed under general anesthesia. The final pathological diagnosis was follicular dendritic cell sarcoma of the right tonsil. Postoperatively, the patient received radiotherapy. The patient remains alive without disease recurrence or metastasis 44 months after tonsillectomy. To the best of our knowledge, only 42 cases of FDCS of the tonsil have been reported to date. Of the 42 cases, 41 patients underwent surgery and one patient refused treatment. A total of 23 (54.7%) received surgery alone. Adjuvant treatment was administered for 18 patients (42.9%). Six patients (14.3%) experienced local recurrences and two patients (4.8%) succumbed to the disease 24 months after treatment. The three-, five-, and eight-year overall survival rates for the entire group were 86.5, 77.8 and 77.8%, respectively. Furthermore, a tumor diameter of ≥4 cm was prognostic upon univariate analysis (Χ² =4.634; P=0.031; excluding incomplete data). Dysregulation of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) has been regarded as a primary feature of several human cancers. However, the genome-wide expression and functional significance of lncRNAs in bladder cancer remains unclear. The aim of this study was to identify aberrantly expressed lncRNAs that may play an important role in contributing to bladder cancer pathogenesis. In this study, we described lncRNAs profiles in four pairs of human bladder cancer and matched normal bladder tissues by microarray. We finally determined 3,324 differentially expressed human lncRNAs and 2,120 differentially expressed mRNAs (≥2-fold change). A total of 110 lncRNAs were significantly differentially expressed between the tumor and the control groups (≥8-fold change). Four lncRNAs (TNXA, CTA-134P22.2, CTC-276P9.1 and KRT19P3) were selected for further confirmation of microarray results using quantitative PCR (qPCR), and a strong correlation was identified between the qPCR results and microarray data. We also observed that numerous lncRNA expression levels were significantly correlated with the expression of tens of protein coding genes by construction of the lncRNA-mRNA co-expression network. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes annotation showed a significant association with p53, bladder cancer, cell cycle and propanoate metabolism pathway gene expression in the bladder cancer group compared with the normal tissue group, indicating that deregulated lncRNAs may act by regulating protein-coding genes in these pathways. We demonstrated the expression profiles of human lncRNAs in bladder cancer by microarray. We identified a collection of aberrantly expressed lncRNAs in bladder cancer compared with matched normal tissue. Background Radical cystectomy (RC) is the standard treatment for patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer (BC), and it is also a valid option for selected patients with high-risk non-muscleinvasive BC. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect on the lower skeletal muscle index (SMI) of short-term postoperative complications of radical cystectomy (RC) in patients with bladder cancer (BC). Methods A total of 247 patients who received RC for BC and 204 age-matched healthy populationbased controls were retrospectively assessed. SMI was measured by preoperative computed tomography scans at the L4 to L5 level. Early complications were graded by Clavien-Dindo classification; severity of grade III or greater was identified as a severe complication. Logistic regression was utilized to determine the relationships between covariables and severe complications. Results A total of 125 (50.61%)/19 (7.69%) patients exhibited overall/severe complications during the early postoperative period. SMI was strongly associated with gender (P <0.01), but not age and body mass index (BMI), among patients with BC. Compared with the matched control group, BC patients exhibited lower SMI. The difference was statistically significant in the subgroup of male patients (P = 0.03). In the multivariate analysis, SMI was an independent predictor of developing severe complications. Each 1 cm2/m2 increase in SMI was associated with a decrease in the odds of morbidity by 4.8%. Background: The purpose of this study was to validate B7-H3 as a new cancer-specific endothelial marker in clear cell renal cell carcinoma. Methods: B7-H3 expression patterns were compared between cancer and paired adjacent normal renal parenchyma by immunohistochemistry in paraffin-embedded specimens from 200 consecutive patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma from January to December 2010. Four corpus luteum specimens were used as physiologic angiogenesis controls. B7-H3 messenger (m)RNA levels representing circulating endothelial cells were analyzed in 24 peripheral blood samples using real-time polymerase chain reaction. Collection and processing of tissue and peripheral blood samples was performed in compliance with the Declaration of Helsinki. Results: Cancer cell-specific expression of B7-H3 was detected in 19% of clear cell renal cell carcinoma specimens, and tumor vasculature B7-H3 expression was confirmed in 98% (196) of cases. A diffuse pattern of vascular B7-H3 expression was associated with multiple adverse clinical and pathologic features (P<0.001). B7-H3 expression was not detected in paired adjacent normal renal parenchyma or vessels, or in luteal blood vessels. The B7-H3 mRNA level of circulating endothelial cells in peripheral blood was significantly higher in metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (P<0.001). Conclusion: This pilot study indicates that B7-H3 is a cancer-specific endothelial marker of potential importance for the development of tumor-specific, vascular-targeted therapies, and is a prognostic marker in clear cell renal cell carcinoma. Objectives: To determine whether carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX) has prognostic value of lymph node metastases and cancer-specific survival in penile squamous cell carcinoma treated with surgery. Materials and methods: CA IX expression was detected in the primary disease of 73 penile cancer patients using the method of immunohistochemistry. The expression levels of CA IX were categorized into 2 groups according to the cutoff of 10% of positively stained tumor cells. Associations between CA IX expression and clinicopathologic characteristics, immunoreactivity of p53 and Ki-67, and outcomes were analyzed. Results: High CA IX expression was observed in 31 (42.5%) of cases. CA IX expression was not associated with patient age, T stage, grade, lymphovascular invasion, and Ki-67 expression, but was associated with p53 expression (P = 0.015). Both univariate and multivariate analysis failed to show CA IX expression was a statistically significant predictor of lymph node metastases and cancer-specific survival. Conclusions: Immunohistochemical expression of CA IX did not associate with lymph node metastases and cancer-specific survival in penile squamous cell carcinoma. Previous prognostic factor models for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) have not included erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). We designed the present study to evaluate the prognostic value of ESR for mRCC patients treated with sorafenib. Sorafenib was given to 83 patients with clear cell mRCC. Serum ESR was tested before treatment and every 4 weeks after first administration of sorafenib. Oncological evaluation was carried out every 8 weeks. Analyzed factors included age, sex, performance status, method of nephrectomy, number of metastatic organs, anemia, lactate dehydrogenase, corrected calcium, albumin, baseline ESR level and ESR kinetics status. Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses on progression-free survival (PFS) were carried out. Baseline ESR levels ranged from 3 to 154 mm/h, and 43 (41.0%) patients had an ESR level higher than 40 mm/h. Median PFS was 10.0 months (95% CI 7.6-12.4 months). Dividing the cohort into three groups according to ESR kinetics status, median PFS was 27 months in the decreased ESR group, 12 months in the stable ESR group and 6 months in the increased ESR group. Performance status, time from diagnoses to sorafenib treatment, number of metastatic organs and ESR kinetics were independent predictors for PFS in multivariable Cox regression model analysis, with an area under the curve of 0.865 in a binary logistic regression model of 12-month PFS probability. APMIS 2010; 118: 777–81. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of prostate cancer in patients with extramammary Paget’s disease (EMPD). All cases of EMPD diagnosed between 1992 and 2007 in Shanghai Cancer Hospital were collected and analyzed for the incidence of prostate cancer. The median follow-up was 78 months. In total, 38 cases of invasive and 10 cases of in situ EMPD had been registered. A second malignancy was found in 28.9% (11/38) of patients with invasive EMPD and in 30% (3/10) of patients with in situ EMPD. Patients had an increased risk of developing a second cancer compared with the general population (standardized incidence ratio: 1.7; 95% confidence interval 1.2–2.4). Sixteen patients had serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level above 4 ng/mL; five developed prostate cancer, three of them with PSA levels beyond 100 ng/mL. The incidence of prostate cancer is 10.4% in this patient group. Patients with EMPD were more likely to have prostate cancer than the general population. To investigate the expression of KIT in clear cell renal cell carcinomas, and to reveal the relationships between KIT status and clinicopathological features and survival of clear cell renal cell carcinomas. The expression of KIT was tested immunohistochemically in 119 specimens of clear cell renal cell carcinoma. Their correlations to clinicopathological parameters were compared and discussed. Kaplan–Meier method was used to determine the survival between KIT-positive and KIT-negative patients. Multivariate analysis was performed using the Cox-regression model for overall survival. A total of 13 out of 119 cases of clear cell renal cell carcinomas (10.9%) were demonstrated consistent overexpression of KIT. There was statistical significance in the correlation between KIT expression and tumor size ( P < 0.01), pathological stage ( P < 0.01), tumor grade ( P < 0.01) and P53 (0.01 < P < 0.05). On multivariate analysis, positive KIT expression presented an independent predictive factor for decreased overall survival (hazard ratio 17.26, P = 0.005). The estimated mean survival time was 25.6 months for KIT-positive patients and 56.9 months for KIT negative patients, P < 0.001. The expression of KIT was significantly associated with tumor size, pathological stage, tumor grade and P53 in clear cell renal cell carcinomas. OBJECTIVE To investigate cell division cycle 91-like 1 (CDC91L1; also called phosphatidylinositol glycan class U, PIG-U) expression in bladder cancer at both the mRNA and protein levels, and to study its clinical and prognostic significance, as CDC91L1 was recently identified as a new oncogene in human bladder cancer and its role in the biological behaviour of bladder cancer is largely unknown. PATIENTS AND METHODS In all, 73 bladder tumours and 14 samples of normal bladder urothelium were studied by reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR), real-time quantitative PCR and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS The normalized CDC91L1 mRNA copy number in tumours was significantly greater than in normal controls ( P < 0.05). There was overexpression of CDC91L1 mRNA in 30.1% (22/73) of the bladder tumours compared with the normal urothelium. At the protein level, 75.3% (55/73) of the bladder tumours and two of 14 of the normal urothelium had high expression of CDC91L1 protein, which is statistically significant (P < 0.001). The correlation between CDC91L1 protein and tumour grade, and muscle invasion of tumour was significant (both P < 0.05). In addition to tumour extent and tumour grade, CDC91L1 protein was an independent predictor of recurrence for superficial bladder cancer and had a trend to predict tumour progression. CONCLUSIONS CDC91L1 (PIG-U) plays a role in the development of bladder urothelial cell carcinoma. Purpose: To preliminarily investigate the efficacy of docetaxel plus prednisone and mitoxantrone plus prednisone for treating metastatic hormone-refractory prostate cancer and to further evaluate its adverse events in Chinese patients. Materials and Methods: 83 patients with metastatic hormone-refractory prostate cancer were enrolled in the trial and given a combination of docetaxel 75 mg/m2 intravenously on day 2 or mitoxantrone 12 mg/m2 on day 1 plus prednisone 5 mg twice daily on days 1–21, 21 days a cycle. Serum PSA level, relief of bone pain, myelosuppression, and vomiting were recorded and calculated. Results: Docetaxel plus prednisone was administered to 44 patients: 13.6% (6/44) of them achieved complete response, 29.5% (13/44) partial response, 29.5% (13/44) had stable disease, and 27.3% (12/44) had disease progression. The average time to PSA progression was 37.8 weeks (12–101 weeks) in the response and stable disease patients. The 12 patients with disease progression were given MP as salvage therapy, and 16.7% (2/12) achieved a partial response, 25.0% (3/12) had stable disease and formed the new baseline. Only 2 patients died of disease aggravation. Mitoxantrone plus prednisone were given to 39 patients, and 7.7% (3/39) of them achieved complete response, 25.6% (10/39) partial response, 25.6% (10/39) had a stable disease, and 41.0% (16/39) of patients had disease progression. The mean time to PSA progression was 25.3 weeks (8–61 weeks) in the response and stable disease patients. The 14 patients with disease progression were administered DP as a salvage therapy and 7.1% (1/14) achieved complete response, 35.7% (5/14) partial response, and 21.4% (3/14) had stable disease and formed the new baseline. Four patients had died at the last follow-up. Conclusions: In Chinese patients, docetaxel plus prednisone is better than mitoxantrone plus prednisone in PSA response rate and PSA control, but has a bit more toxicity. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the prognostic significance of p53, Ki-67, epithelial cadherin (E-cadherin) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 in primary penile cancer, as the presence of lymph node metastasis and long-term survival are hard to define in penile squamous cell carcinoma. PATIENTS AND METHODS Paraffin-embedded primary tumour samples were obtained from 73 Chinese patients who had penile amputation and regional lymphadenectomy. The expression of molecular markers was determined by immunohistochemistry. Logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with lymph node metastasis, and a Cox proportional-hazards model was used to measure cancer-specific survival (CSS). RESULTS Thirty (41%) patients presented with nodal disease and the 3-year CSS rate for all patients was 72%. Lymph node metastasis was significantly correlated with tumour stage, histological grade, lymphatic and vascular embolization, and the expression of p53, Ki-67 and E-cadherin. By multivariate analysis, tumour embolization and the expression of p53 were independent predictors of metastasis. Survival analysis showed that the expression of p53 was an independent prognostic factor for CSS. In stage T1 tumours, high expression of p53 was significantly associated with metastasis and poor survival. CONCLUSION Lymphatic and vascular embolization, and p53 immunoreactivity, are helpful in establishing the probability of lymph node metastasis. The expression of p53 is an independent predictor of CSS in Chinese patients with penile cancer. In this paper, Ta/[NiFe(15 nm)/FeMn(10 nm)]/Ta exchange-biased bilayers are fabricated by magnetron sputtering, and their static and dynamic magnetic properties before and after rapid annealing treatment with pulsed current are characterized by using a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and a vector network analyzer (VNA), respectively. The exchange bias field He and static anisotropy field decrease from 118.45 Oe (1 Oe = 79.5775 A·m−1) and 126.84 Oe at 0 V to 94.75 Oe and 102.31 Oe at 90 V, respectively, with increasing capacitor voltage, which supplies pulsed current to heat the sample. The effect of flash thermal annealing by pulsed current on the rotational anisotropy (Hrot), the difference value between static and dynamic magnetic anisotropy, is investigated particularly. The highest Hrot is obtained in the sample annealing with 45-V capacitor (3300 μF) voltage. According to the anisotropic magnetoresistance measurements, it can be explained by the fact that the temperature of the sample is around the blocking temperature of the exchange bias system (Tb) at 45 V, the critical temperature where the formation of more unstable antiferromagnetic grains occurs.
