Objective: To investigate food and nutrient intakes in 9-month-old infants. Design: Cross-sectional survey, including 24-hour dietary recalls of infants food and nutrient intakes, as reported by parents. Material and methods: 378 infants (9 months old completed, singleton, born at term in the district of Tlemcen, birth weight a 2,500 grams) were randomly recruited at the time of vaccination against measles, from the 9 immunization's centers in the district of Tlemcen, between 29/11/2007 and 14/10/2008, after parents signed consent. Diet was assessed using a structured 24-hour food recall. Data collection and statistical analyses were performed using Nutri-survey 2007 and SPSS statistics 17.0. In the absence of national guidelines, nutrient intakes were compared with dietary recommended nutritional intakes (RNI) or the Dietary Refe-rence Intakes (DRIs). Results: Globally, all mean macronutrient nutrient intakes, met dietary recommended nutritional intakes. However, daily intakes of some micronutrients (folie acid, vitamin A, vitamin C, zinc and especially iron) were below recommendations. Thus, consi-dering a 10% bioavailability level, 38.1 % of the subjeets had iron intakes less than the recommended nutrient intake and 80% lessthan RNI X 0.77. Objectifs déterminer les prévalences de la carence martiale (CM) et de l’anémie par CM (ACM) et analyser leurs facteurs de risque chez les nourrissons de la commune de Tlemcen. Patients et méthodes :une étude transversale a été réalisée sur un échantillon de 401 enfants âgés de 9 mois, recrutés à partir des 9 centres vaccination de la commune entre le 29/11/2007 et le 14/10/2008. Les indices biochimiques utilisés étaient : l’Hb, le VGM, la ferritine sérique (FS), la CRP et le récepteur soluble de la transferrine (RsTf). L’analyse statistique a été réalisée à l’aide de Nutrisurvey 2007 et SPSS Statistics 17.0. Résultats La prévalence de la CM était de 53 % selon le modèle « ferritinémie <12 μg/l ou RsTf >3,3 mg/l ». La prévalence de l’ACM était de 34 %. L’anémie était légère (Hb < 11 et ≥ 9 g/dl) dans 89 % des cas. En analyse par régression logistique les facteurs indépendants de la CM avec ou sans anémie étaient : l’arrêt de la formule infantile<9 mois, la consommation de céréales infantiles<6 jours/semaine, la consommation de viande<4 jours/semaine et la durée d’allaitement maternel>6 mois. Conclusion La CM demeure un problème de santé publique dans notre pays. Les facteurs de risque nutritionnels sont dus à une mauvaise gestion de la période de sevrage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectifs Comparer l’efficacité du lait de croissance (LC) versus le fer médicinal (FM) par voie orale dans le traitement des anémies ferriprives légères (Hb < 11 et ≥9 g/dL). Patients et méthodes Des nourrissons âgés de 9 mois présentant une anémie ferriprive légère ont reçu après consentement des parents, soit une solution orale de férédétate de sodium (FS) (n=111) ou d’hydroxyde ferrique polymaltose (HFP), à raison de 3 mg/kg/jour de fer ; soit un lait de croissance (LC) enrichi en fer (n=30) à raison de 8,8 mg/100 mg de poudre. Le critère de jugement principal était la correction de l’anémie après 3 mois de traitement. Résultats Les niveaux moyens d‘Hb ont significativement augmenté au J30, puis au J90 pour les 2 groupes. Cette augmentation au J30 par rapport au taux de bases qui était significativement plus importante dans le groupe fer médicinal (FM) par rapport au groupe LC (0,92 ± 0,28 g/dL versus 0,74 ±0,25 g/dL, respectivement ; p = 0,002), ne l’était plus au J90 par rapport au J30 (1,29 ± 0,44 g/dL versus 1,11 ± 0,39 g/dL, respectivement ; p = 0,055). Conclusion Les formules de croissance pourraient constituer une alternative dans le traitement des anémies ferriprives légères. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two novel cadmium-based 2D coordination polymers have been synthesized and characterized. Experimental results evidence that the best delamination processes occurs when weak interactions dominate the cohesion between layers and solvent molecules are occluded within the crystalline network. In this case, the delamination of the crystals occurs spontaneously in water. On top of that, and thanks to the high stability of the resulting (flake) colloidal dispersions, we have completed a detailed study of the sonication assisted delamination impact by: I) comparison of two different sonication approaches (bath vs. tip sonication) and II) optimization of final flake morphology and yield by controlling solvent and sonication time. We present a structurally flexible copper–iodide–pyridine-based coordination polymer showing drastic variations in its electrical conductivity driven by temperature and sorption of acetic acid molecules. The dramatic effect on the electrical conductivity enables the fabrication of a simple and robust device for gas detection. We present the results of 13C NMR experiments in an organic superconductor with localized Fe spins β′′-(BEDT-TTF)4[(H3O)Fe(C2O4)3]·C6H5Br. We reveal the antiferromagnetic coupling between Fe d spins and π spins, which creates an exchange field antiparallel to the external field direction at the π electrons. In addition to the static effects of Fe spins, we show from the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate measurement that the magnetic fluctuations generated by Fe spins are suppressed at low temperatures and high magnetic fields. These conditions are suitable to stabilize the field-induced superconductivity by the field compensation mechanism. After the suppression of Fe-spin dynamics by a magnetic field of 19 T, we observed the underlying π-electron contribution. We discuss a possible anomaly in the π-electron system.
