Objective: to estimate the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome among the nursing workers of the primary health care in the municipality of Pojuca, Bahia, Brazil. Method: cross-sectional descriptive study, linked to a multicenter project conducted in 12 Family Health Units, with 11 (39.3%) nurses and 17 (60.7%) technicians and nursing assistants. We used the Maslach Burnout Inventory. Results: 28.6% of participants had high levels of emotional exhaustion; high level of depersonalization was presented by 21.5%; 46.4% expressed a high level of Reduced Professional Accomplishment. The prevalence of the syndrome showed a significant percentage (7.1%), considering that this diagnosis can be prevented. Conclusions: the prevalence of relevant percentage of the Burnout Syndrome among nursing workers in the city studied requires the implementation of measures for prevention in the workplace, with an occupational health program to encourage the promotion and monitoring of the health status of these professionals. The study aimed to understand what the knowledge, referred by students as reconstructed, expresses within the curricular internship in spaces of basic health care. The study analyzes the contribution of the internship in the education of nursing students toward their professional role within that context of health care. This is an exploratory and qualitative study. Two focal groups were utilized for data gathering. Fourteen students from two public higher education institutions hosting internship programs in the city of Salvador, BA, participated in the groups between August and September 2008. The data was analyzed using thematic analysis. The study revealed that the internship provided the reconstruction of significant experiences for the professional role of the nurse in basic care, such as better comprehension of: the complexity of the work in the context of basic care; health planning; decision making; and a better foundation for clinical practice, being this latter one, the most emphasized by the students. The analysis also illustrated the limits of the curricular internship related to the teaching-service disintegration; few opportunities to practice multi-professional and intersectoral work; not enough knowledge about health observation, permanent health education activities, and social control procedures. Perception of basic care, as revealed by the student statements, the basic literature of the internship, and the range of possible activities in the fields of practice, were illustrated as very restricted. This constitutes, yet another limit in the development of the internship, and consequently, in the education of the nurse in the context of basic health care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this study was to reflect and discuss about the potential role of the nurses at the tuberculosis combat, helping the Community Health Agent at the Program of Tuberculosis Control. This is a descriptive study that uses a quantitative approach, with a cross-sectional study design. The group studied was formed of 121 Community Health Agents of The Family Health Strategy in the urban zone of Teresina. It was observed that 71.1% of the agents admitted to need help of a nurse when they have doubts related to suspected cases of tuberculosis. Relevant interventions in tuberculosis control are responsibility of the nurses at a political and an operational scope. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
