The importance of nitrate and ammonium salts both in the environment and in biological processes cannot be questioned. In this work, using the TIP4P/2005 water model, aqueous solutions of nitrate and ammonium electrolytes are parametrized using scaled charges while keeping a rigid structure and nonpolarizable charge distributions. The models are optimized by systematically testing a set of properties for twelve electrolytes—eight nitrate and four ammonium salts—thus, enlarging the number of potential chemical species encompassed within the Madrid-2019 force field for ions. The capacity of the force field for predicting densities, ion–ion and ion–solvent structures, and transport properties of the solutions comprised by the trial batch of salts was tested and discussed. Both the dependence of the densities with the salt concentration and the solution structure were nicely reproduced by the models in the whole concentration range without any trace of precipitating events and with improved accuracy in comparison with recently reported models, while the agreement of the simulated transport properties with experimental data ranges from good to reasonable, depending on the ion/counterion pair. These scaled charge models might be considered as force fields embodying a reasonable compromise between exactness and general applicability and also as an important step in the development of accurate models for polyatomic ions. Summary Plant root system is significantly influenced by high soil levels of ammonium nitrogen, leading to reduced root elongation and enhanced lateral root branching. In Arabidopsis, these processes have been reported to be mediated by phytohormones and their downstream signaling pathways, while the controlling mechanisms remain elusive in crops. Through a transcriptome analysis of roots subjected to high/low ammonium treatments, we identified a cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase encoding gene, CKX3, whose expression is induced by high ammonium. Knocking out CKX3 and its homologue CKX8 results in shorter seminal roots, fewer lateral roots, and reduced sensitivity to high ammonium. Endogenous cytokinin levels are elevated by high ammonium or in ckx3 mutants. Cytokinin application results in shorter seminal roots and fewer lateral roots in wild‐type, mimicking the root responses of ckx3 mutants to high ammonium. Furthermore, CKX3 is transcriptionally activated by type‐B RR25 and RR26, and ckx3 mutants have reduced auxin content and signaling in roots under low ammonium. This study identified RR25/26‐CKX3‐cytokinin as a signal module that mediates root responses to external ammonium by modulating of auxin signaling in the root meristem and lateral root primordium. The objective was to verify the performance of spectral techniques as well as validation models in the prediction of nitrogen, total organic carbon, and humic fractions under different cultivation conditions. Chemical analyses for the determination of nitrate, total nitrogen, total organic carbon, and the chemical fractionation of soil organic matter were performed, as well as spectral analyses by Vis-NIR-SWIR and X-ray fluorescence. The results of the spectroscopy were processed using RStudio v. 4.1.3, and PLSR and support vector machine learning algorithms were applied to validate the models. The Vis-NIR-SWIR and XRF spectroscopic techniques showed high performance and are indicated for the prediction of nitrogen, total organic carbon, and humic fractions in Ferralsols of medium sandy texture. However, it is important to highlight that each technique has its own characteristic mechanism of action: Vis-NIR-SWIR detects the element based on harmonic tones, while XRF is based on the atomic number of the element or elemental association. The recovery of pure water and valuable substances from wastewater is a major challenge in the context of the circular economy, requiring advanced separation methods. However, actual membrane separation techniques such as forward osmosis are limited by membrane fouling and selectivity. Here, we synthesized composite membranes by crosslinking polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel, using both glutaraldehyde and borax as crosslinking agents, on top of cellulose ester membranes. We tested these composite membranes on model and real wastewater. Results show that the composite membranes retain ammonium effectively, maintain surface electroneutrality, and exhibit remarkable resistance to fouling by organic and biological contaminants. Here we review the 400-year history of hydroponic culture and describe a unique management approach that does not require leaching or discarding solution between harvests. Nutrients are maintained at a low and steady concentration by daily additions of a dilute solution that replaces the transpired water along with the nutrients that were removed in growth each day. A stable pH and a low steady-state concentration of ammonium are maintained through automated additions of a solution of nitric acid and ammonium nitrate. Ample solution volume (at least 20 cm deep) stabilizes nutrient concentrations, reduces root density, and improves uniformity. Gentle aeration at ≈100 mL·min-1·L-1 maintains dissolved oxygen near saturation and increases uniformity throughout the rhizosphere. These practices facilitate a uniform, closed, root zone with rigorous pH control that provides the micromolar nutrient concentrations of N and P that are representative of field soils. Tubulysins are among the most recent antimitotic compounds to enter into antibody/peptide‐drug conjugate (ADC/PDC) development. Thus far, the design of the most promising tubulysin payloads relied on simplifying their structures, e. g. by using small tertiary amide N‐substituents (Me, Et, Pr) on the tubuvaline residue. Cumbersome solution‐phase approaches are typically used for both syntheses and functionalization with cleavable linkers. p‐Aminobenzyl quaternary ammonium (PABQ) linkers were a remarkable advancement for targeted delivery, but the procedures to incorporate them into tubulysins are only of moderate efficiency. Here we describe a novel all‐on‐resin strategy permitting a loss‐free resin linkage and an improved access to super potent tubulysin analogs showing close resemblance to the natural compounds. For the first time, a protocol enables the integration of on‐resin tubulysin derivatization with, e. g. a maleimido‐Val‐Cit‐PABQ linker, which is a notable progress for the payload‐PABQ‐linker technology. The strategy also allows tubulysin diversification of the internal amide N‐substituent, thus enabling to screen a tubulysin library for the discovery of new potent analogs. Granular activated carbon has been modified by ammonium persulfate as a new adsorbent for Cr(VI) adsorption from aqueous solutions. The adsorbent was characterized by nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherm data and infrared spectroscopy. The impact of different factors, such as the initial pH level of the solution, time, temperature, ionic strength, and initial concentration of the Cr(VI) ion, on the adsorption efficiencies of the adsorbent has been studied by batch experiments. Kinetic studies and the adsorption thermodynamics of Cr(VI) with ammonium persulfate-modified activated carbon adsorbent were carefully studied. The results showed that the Cr(VI) adsorption follows a pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the adsorption reaction is endothermic and spontaneous. The adsorption isotherm was scrutinized, and the fitting results showed that the Langmuir model could well represent the adsorption process. The maximum adsorption capacity of Cr(VI) onto persulfate-modified activated carbon was 108.69 mg g−1. Enhancing the thermal safety of hydrophobic SiO 2 aerogels (SAs) is crucial for its practical thermal insulation applications. Here, we explore a facile method to enhance the thermal safety of hydrophobic SAs with the introduction of ammonium polyphosphate intercalated layered double hydroxide (APP-LDH). The obtained results show that as-produced APP-LDH/SA composites maintain excellent fundamental properties, including low density (0.14–0.16 g/cm3), high porosity (92.8–93.5 %), high specific surface area (680.0–762.6 m2/g), and low thermal conductivity (25.3–26.9 mW/m/K). Notably, APP-LDH effectively inhibits the thermal oxidation decomposition of SAs. In comparison to pristine SAs and those modified solely with LDH, the APP-LDH/SA composites exhibit significantly improved thermal stability. The gross calorific value of the APP-LDH/SA-20 % (i.e., containing 20 wt% APP-LDH) decreases by 13.9 % and 5.2 % compared with that of neat SAs and SAs modified solely with 20 wt% LDH, respectively. The improved thermal stability and reduced gross calorific value completely confirm the enhancement of the thermal safety of the APP-LDH/SA composites. Synthetic polymer surfaces provide an excellent opportunity for developing materials with inherent antimicrobial and/or biocidal activity, therefore representing an answer to the increasing demand for antimicrobial active medical devices. So far, biologists and material scientists have identified a few features of bacterial cells that can be strategically exploited to make polymers inherently antimicrobial. One of these is represented by the introduction of cationic charges that act by killing or deactivating bacteria by interaction with the negatively charged parts of their cell envelope (lipopolysaccharides, peptidoglycan, and membrane lipids). Among the possible cationic functionalities, the antimicrobial activity of polymers with quaternary ammonium centers (QACs) has been widely used for both soluble macromolecules and non-soluble materials. Unfortunately, most information is still unknown on the biological mechanism of action of QACs, a fundamental requirement for designing polymers with higher antimicrobial efficiency and possibly very low toxicity. This mini-review focuses on surfaces based on synthetic polymers with inherently antimicrobial activity due to QACs. The first example of a heteroditopic receptor capable of cooperative recognition and extraction of ammonium salt (NH4X) ion-pairs is described. Consisting of a bidentate 3,5-bis-tellurotriazole chalcogen bond donor binding cleft, the appendage of benzo-15-crown-5 (B15C5) substituents to the tellurium centres facilitates binding of the ammonium cation via a co-facial bis-B15C5 sandwich complex, which serves to switch on chalcogen bonding-mediated anion binding potency. Extensive quantitative ion-pair recognition 1H NMR titration studies in CD3CN/CDCl3 (1 : 1, v/v) solvent media reveal impressive ion-pair binding affinities towards a variety of ammonium halide, nitrate and thiocyanate salts, with the heteroditopic receptor displaying notable ammonium halide salt selectivity. The vibrational spectra of the natural ammonium sulfates tschermigite NH4Al(SO4)2(H2O)12, lonecreekite NH4Fe(SO4)2(H2O)12, ammoniovoltaite (NH4)2Fe2+5Fe3+3Al(SO4)12(H2O)18, sabieite NH4Fe(SO4)2, ammonioalunite NH4Al3(SO4)2(OH)6, and ammoniojarosite NH4Fe3(SO4)2(OH)6 were studied to determine the behavior of ammonium in symmetry-inappropriate positions. Disorder of the ammonium cation in salt crystals caused by the need to adjust the tetrahedral cation to the symmetry of the position to preserve the crystal symmetry was revealed. If the symmetry group of the position was not a subgroup of the tetrahedral symmetry group, the NH4 tetrahedron was distorted by the subgroup Hʹ common for Td and H, where H is the symmetry group of the position. Then, a polyhedron corresponding to the symmetry of the position was constructed from N = |H|/|Hʹ| (|H| and |Hʹ| are the orders of these groups) distorted tetrahedra. The disordered ammonium cation had several orientations (N), the superposition of which formally gave a polyhedron corresponding to the local symmetry. The maximum common subgroups for the given salts were C3v and C3. Distortion of ammonium led to activation of ν1 and ν2 [NH4+ ] vibrations in the IR spectrum and splitting of ν3 and ν4 [NH4+ ]. However, the effect was barely noticeable for ammonium in a centrosymmetric position, as in ammonioalunite and ammoniojarosite. One of the key reasons for the success of invasive plants is the functional differences between invasive plants and native plants. However, atmospheric nitrogen deposition may disrupt the level of available nitrogen in soil and the functional differences between invasive plants and native plants, which may alter the colonization of invasive plants. Thus, there is a pressing necessity to examine the effects of atmospheric nitrogen deposition containing different nitrogen components on the functional differences between invasive plants and native plants. However, the progress made thus far in this field is not sufficiently detailed. This study aimed to elucidate the effects of artificially simulated nitrogen deposition containing different nitrogen components (i.e., nitrate, ammonium, urea, and mixed nitrogen) on the functional differences between the Asteraceae invasive plant Bidens pilosa L. and the Asteraceae native plant Pterocypsela laciniata (Houtt.) Shih. The study was conducted over a four-month period using a pot-competitive co-culture experiment. The growth performance of P. laciniata, in particular with regard to the sunlight capture capacity (55.12% lower), plant supporting capacity (45.92% lower), leaf photosynthetic area (51.24% lower), and plant growth competitiveness (79.92% lower), may be significantly inhibited under co-cultivation condition in comparison to monoculture condition. Bidens pilosa exhibited a more pronounced competitive advantage over P. laciniata, particularly in terms of the sunlight capture capacity (129.43% higher), leaf photosynthetic capacity (40.06% higher), and enzymatic defense capacity under stress to oxidative stress (956.44% higher). The application of artificially simulated nitrogen deposition was found to facilitate the growth performance of monocultural P. laciniata, particularly in terms of the sunlight capture capacity and leaf photosynthetic area. Bidens pilosa exhibited a more pronounced competitive advantage (the average value of the relative dominance index of B. pilosa is ≈ 0.8995) than P. laciniata under artificially simulated nitrogen deposition containing different nitrogen components, especially when treated with ammonium (the relative dominance index of B. pilosa is ≈ 0.9363) and mixed nitrogen (the relative dominance index of B. pilosa is ≈ 0.9328). Consequently, atmospheric nitrogen deposition, especially the increased relative proportion of ammonium in atmospheric nitrogen deposition, may facilitate the colonization of B. pilosa via a stronger competitive advantage. The ammonia/ammonium (NH3/NH4+, AM) concentration in human erythrocytes (RBCs) is significantly higher than in plasma. Two main possible mechanisms for AM transport, including simple and facilitated diffusion, are described; however, the driving force for AM transport is not yet fully characterized. Since the erythroid ammonium channel RhAG forms a structural unit with anion exchanger 1 (eAE1) within the ankyrin core complex, we hypothesized the involvement of eAE1 in AM transport. To evaluate the functional interaction between eAE1 and RhAG, we used a unique feature of RBCs to swell and lyse in isotonic NH4+ buffer. The kinetics of cell swelling and lysis were analyzed by flow cytometry and an original laser diffraction method, adapted for accurate volume sensing. The eAE1 role was revealed according to (i) the changes in cell swelling and lysis kinetics, and (ii) changes in intracellular pH, triggered by eAE1 inhibition or the modulation of eAE1 main ligand concentrations (Cl− and HCO3−). Additionally, the AM import kinetics was analyzed enzymatically and colorimetrically. In NH4+ buffer, RBCs concentration-dependently swelled and lysed when [NH4+] exceeded 100 mM. Cell swelling and hemolysis were tightly regulated by chloride concentration. The complete substitution of chloride with glutamate prevented NH4+-induced cell swelling and hemolysis, and the restoration of [Cl−] dose-dependently amplified the rates of RBC swelling and lysis and the percentage of hemolyzed cells. Similarly, eAE1 inhibition impeded cell swelling and completely prevented hemolysis. Accordingly, eAE1 inhibition, or a lack of chloride anions in the buffer, significantly decreased NH4+ import. Partial nitritation (PN) is a novel treatment for nitrogen removal using aerobic ammonium oxidation with reduced oxygen requirements compared to conventional nitrification. This study evaluated the performance of the PN process and the factors influencing nitrogen removal from landfill leachate. During the reactivation of biomass, the results showed 70% ammonium removal, but only 20% total nitrogen removal. Further analysis showed that low nitrite accumulation and high nitrate production promoted the growth of nitrite‐oxidizing bacteria (NOB). The ammonium removal activity after soaking the cultivated biomass in synthetic water and leachate was measured to be 0.57, 0.1, 0.17, and 0.25 g N•g VSS−1•d−1 for synthetic wastewater and leachate soaking for synthetic wastewater, 12 h, 3 days, and 7 days, respectively. The study found abundant ammonium‐oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and NOBs in biomass soaked in synthetic wastewater. However, soaking in leachate promoted AOB growth and inhibited NOB growth making leachate suitable for PN. Two-dimensional/three-dimensional hierarchical self-supporting potassium ammonium vanadate@MXene hybrid films exhibit excellent electrochemical performance. [Display omitted] Currently, aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) have grown to be a good choice for large-scale energy storage systems due to their high theoretical specific capacity, low redox potential, low cost, and non-toxicity of the aqueous electrolyte. However, it is still challenging to obtain high specific capacity and stability suitable cathodes. Herein, hierarchical self-supporting potassium ammonium vanadate@MXene (KNVO@MXene) hybrid films were prepared by vacuum filtration method. Due to the three-dimensional nanoflower structure of KNVO with dual ions intercalation, high conductivity of two-dimensional Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene, and the hierarchical self-supporting structure, the AZIB based on the KNVO@MXene hybrid film cathode possessed superior specific capacity (481 mAh/g at 0.3 A/g) and cycling stability (retaining 125 mAh/g after 1000 cycles at a high current density of 10 A/g). Forests are the largest carbon sink in terrestrial ecosystems, and the impact of nitrogen (N) deposition on this carbon sink depends on the fate of external N inputs. However, the patterns and driving factors of N retention in different forest compartments remain elusive. In this study, we synthesized 408 observations from global forest 15N tracer experiments to reveal the variation and underlying mechanisms of 15N retention in plants and soils. The results showed that the average total ecosystem 15N retention in global forests was 63.04 ± 1.23%, with the soil pool being the main N sink (45.76 ± 1.29%). Plants absorbed 17.28 ± 0.83% of 15N, with more allocated to leaves (5.83 ± 0.63%) and roots (5.84 ± 0.44%). In subtropical and tropical forests, 15N was mainly absorbed by plants and mineral soils, while the organic soil layer in temperate forests retained more 15N. Additionally, forests retained more N15H4+$$ {}^{15}\mathrm{N}{\mathrm{H}}_4^{+} $$than N15O3−$$ {}^{15}\mathrm{N}{\mathrm{O}}_3^{-} $$, primarily due to the stronger capacity of the organic soil layer to retain N15H4+$$ {}^{15}\mathrm{N}{\mathrm{H}}_4^{+} $$. The mechanisms of 15N retention varied among ecosystem compartments, with total ecosystem 15N retention affected by N deposition. Plant 15N retention was influenced by vegetative and microbial nutrient demands, while soil 15N retention was regulated by climate factors and soil nutrient supply. Overall, this study emphasizes the importance of climate and nutrient supply and demand in regulating forest N retention and provides data to further explore the impacts of N deposition on forest carbon sequestration. • The start-up of filters for NH 4 + and Mn2+ removal by catalytic oxidation was studied. • Different combinations of oxidants and reductants were introduced during the start-up period. • Comparison of catalytic oxidation activity of MnOx follows: Mn7+→MnO x ˃Mn7+→MnO x ←Mn2+ ˃ Mn2+→MnO x. • Potassium permanganate was more conducive to the formation of active species. A pilot-scale filtration system was adopted to prepare filter media with catalytic activity to remove manganese (Mn2+) and ammonium (NH 4 +-N). Three different combinations of oxidants (KMnO 4 and K 2 FeO 4) and reductants (MnSO 4 and FeCl 2) were used during the start-up period. Filter R3 started up by KMnO 4 and FeCl 2 (Mn7+→MnO x) exhibited excellent catalytic property, and the NH 4 +-N and Mn2+ removal efficiency reached over 80% on the 10th and 35th days, respectively. Filter R1 started up by K 2 FeO 4 and MnSO 4 (MnO x ←Mn2+) exhibited the worst catalytic property. Filter R2 started up by KMnO 4 and MnSO 4 (Mn7+→MnO x ←Mn2+) were in between. According to Zeta potential results, the Mn-based oxides (MnO x) formed by Mn7+→MnO x performed the highest pH IEP and pH PZC. The higher the pH IEP and pH PZC , the more unfavorable the cation adsorption. However, it was inconsistent with its excellent Mn2+ and NH 4 +-N removal abilities, implying that catalytic oxidation played a key role. Combined with XRD and XPS analysis, the results showed that the MnO x produced by the reduction of KMnO 4 showed early formation of buserite crystals, high degree of amorphous, high content of Mn3+ and lattice oxygen with the higher activity to form defects. The above results showed that MnO x produced by the reduction of KMnO 4 was more conducive to the formation of active species for catalytic oxidation of NH 4 +-N and Mn2+ removal. This study explores the enhancement of aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) using ammonium-enhanced vanadium oxide cathodes. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations reveal that NH4+ incorporation into V6O16 lattices significantly facilitates Zn2+ ion diffusion by reducing electrostatic interactions, acting as a structural lubricant. Subsequent experimental validation using (NH4)2V6O16 cathodes synthesized via a hydrothermal method corroborates the DFT findings, demonstrating remarkable electrochemical stability with a capacity retention of 90% after 2000 cycles at 5 A g−1. Metallocene catalysts have attracted much attention from academia and industry for their excellent catalytic activity in the field of olefin polymerization. Cocatalysts play a key role in metallocene catalytic systems, which can not only affect the overall catalytic activity, but also have an obvious influence on the structure and properties of the polymer. Although methylaluminoxane (MAO) is currently the most widely used cocatalyst, its price increases the production cost of polyolefin materials. Ammonium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate has shown excellent performance in polymerization, being one of the best substitutes for the traditional cocatalyst MAO. Compared with the main catalyst, whose composition and structure are relatively complex, the research on cocatalyst is very limited. This review mainly introduces the research history, preparation methods, and application progress in polymerization of ammonium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate, deepening our understanding of the role of cocatalyst in polymerization, with the hope of inspiring brand-new thinking on improving and enhancing the overall performance of catalyst systems. Nevertheless, fragile N H...O bonds and too strong electrostatic interaction by virtue of excessive NH 4 + will lead to sluggish Zn2+ ion mobility, further largely affects the electro-chemical performance of ammonium vanadate in AZIBs. The present work incorporates polypyrrole (PPy) to partially replace NH 4 + in NH 4 V 4 O 10 (NVO), resulting in the significantly enlarged interlayers (from 10.1 to 11.9 Å), remarkable electronic conductivity, increased oxygen vacancies and reinforced layered structure. The partial removal of NH 4 + will alleviate the irreversible deammoniation to protect the laminate structures from collapse during ion insertion/extraction. The expanded interlayer spacing and the increased oxygen vacancies by the virtue of the introduction of polypyrrole improve the ionic diffusion, enabling exceptional rate performance of NH 4 V 4 O 10. As expected, the resulting polypyrrole intercalated ammonium vanadate (NVOY) presents a superior discharge capacity of 431.9 mAh g−1 at 0.5 A g−1 and remarkable cycling stability of 219.1 mAh g−1 at 20 A g−1 with 78 % capacity retention after 1500 cycles. Modern crops exhibit diverse sensitivities to ammonium as the primary nitrogen source, influenced by environmental factors such as external pH and nutrient availability. Despite its significance, there is currently no systematic classification of plant species based on their ammonium sensitivity. We conducted a meta-analysis of 50 plant species and present a new classification method based on the comparison of fresh biomass obtained under ammonium and nitrate nutrition. The classification uses the natural logarithm of the biomass ratio as the size effect indicator of ammonium sensitivity. This numerical parameter is associated with critical factors for nitrogen demand and form preference, such as Ellenberg indicators and the repertoire of nitrogen transporters for ammonium and nitrate uptake. Finally, a comparative analysis of the developmental and metabolic responses, including hormonal balance, is conducted in two species with divergent ammonium sensitivity values in the classification. Results indicate that nitrate has a key role in counteracting ammonium toxicity in species with a higher abundance of genes encoding NRT2-type proteins and fewer of those encoding the AMT2-type proteins. Unlike aquaporins or potassium channels, ammonium transporters (Amts) uniquely discriminate ammonium from potassium and water. This feature has certainly contributed to their repurposing as ammonium receptors during evolution. Here, we describe the ammonium receptor Sd-Amt1, where an Amt module connects to a cytoplasmic diguanylate cyclase transducer module via an HAMP domain. Structures of the protein with and without bound ammonium were determined to 1.7-and 1.9-Ångstrom resolution, depicting the ON and OFF states of the receptor and confirming the presence of a binding site for two ammonium cations that is pivotal for signal perception and receptor activation. The transducer domain was disordered in the crystals, and an AlphaFold2 prediction suggests that the helices linking both domains are flexible. While the sensor domain retains the trimeric fold formed by all Amt family members, the HAMP domains interact as pairs and serve to dimerize the transducer domain upon activation. Nitrate, the form of nitrogen often associated with kelp growth, is typically low in summer during periods of high macroalgal growth. More ephemeral, regenerated forms of nitrogen, such as ammonium and urea, are much less studied as sources of nitrogen for kelps, despite the relatively high concentrations of regenerated nitrogen found in the Southern California Bight, where kelps are common. To assess how nitrogen uptake by kelps varies by species and nitrogen form in southern California, USA, we measured uptake rates of nitrate, ammonium, and urea by Macrocystis pyrifera and Eisenia arborea individuals from four regions characterized by differences in nitrogen availability—Orange County, San Pedro, eastern Santa Catalina Island, and western Santa Catalina Island—during the summers of 2021 and 2022. Seawater samples collected at each location showed that overall nitrogen availability was low, but ammonium and urea were often more abundant than nitrate. We also quantified the internal %nitrogen of each kelp blade collected, which was positively associated with ambient environmental nitrogen concentrations at the time of collection. We observed that both kelp species readily took up nitrate, ammonium, and urea, with M. pyrifera taking up nitrate and ammonium more efficiently than E. arborea. Urea uptake efficiency for both species increased as internal percent nitrogen decreased. Our results indicate that lesser‐studied, more ephemeral forms of nitrogen can readily be taken up by these kelps, with possible upregulation of urea uptake as nitrogen availability declines. An important source of greenhouse gases in Brazil is the nitrous oxide (N2O) emission from pasture, and microorganisms play an important role in nitrogen transformations in the soil. This study aimed to evaluate N2O emission and NH3 volatilization from bovine excreta in pasture in an integrated crop–livestock system (ICL) in the Brazilian Cerrado. Three treatments (urine, dung and control) were performed in two pastures (Area 1—three-year pasture of Urochloa ruziziensis and Area 2—one-year pasture of Urochloa brizantha cv. Piatã), with two application times of the excreta (dry and rainy season), during two successive years of application. Compared to the control, the excreta deposition on ICL increased soil N2O and NH3 fluxes. In the dry season, N2O fluxes were associated with higher ammonium (NH4+) availability. In the rainy season, these fluxes were related to NO3− availability and water-filled pore space (WFPS). In both areas, NH3 volatilization was higher after urine than dung application, especially in the dry season. The highest N2O emission factors were obtained for urine (0.32%), the rainy season (0.36%), and older pasture (Area 1: 0.24%). All these values were below the mean IPCC default values (0.77%). Efficient adsorbents for excess bilirubin removal are extremely important for the treatment of hyperbilirubinemia. However, traditional adsorbents, such as activated carbons and ion-exchange resins, still suffer from dissatisfactory adsorption performance and poor blood compatibility. Herein, we adopted a rational design strategy guided by density functional theory (DFT) calculations to prepare blood-compatible quaternary ammonium group grafted electrospun polyacrylonitrile nanofiber adsorbents. The calculation analysis and adsorption experiments were used to investigate the structure–function relationship between group types and bilirubin adsorption, both indicating that quaternary ammonium groups with suitable configurations played a crucial role in bilirubin binding. The obtained nanofiber adsorbents showed the bilirubin removal efficiency above 90% even at a coexisting BSA concentration of 50 g L−1. The maximum adsorption capacities were 818.9 mg g−1 in free bilirubin solution and 163.7 mg g−1 in albumin bound bilirubin solution. The nanofiber adsorbents also showed considerable bilirubin removal in dynamic adsorption to reduce the bilirubin concentration to a normal level, which was better than commercial activated carbons. Our study demonstrates the high feasibility of a theory-driven design method for the development of grafted electrospun nanofibers, which have good potential as bilirubin adsorbents in hemoperfusion applications. Sulfide-based pathways for generating nitrite to sustain anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) have garnered increasing attention. However, the presence of sulfide can also impact the anammox process, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of both its short-term and long-term effects on anammox. This study aimed to investigate the influence of sulfide on anammox, including its effects on the microbial community and process kinetics. During long-term operation, the maximum sulfide dosage tested was 30 mg S/L over 50 days of operation, exhibiting good nitrogen removal efficiency of 83.9%±4.8%. Conversely, under short-term exposure to sulfide, nitrogen removal efficiency was notably affected, decreasing to 68.98% at a considerably lower sulfide concentration of only 16 mg S/L. Within the context of long-term sulfide exposure, the maximum contribution of anammox to nitrogen removal reached 86.72% at a sulfide dosage of 25 mg S/L. However, when the influent sulfide concentration was increased to 50 mg/L , the contribution of anammox to nitrogen removal sharply declined to 41.3%. Microbial community analysis revealed as the sulfide concentration increased from 8 to 16 mg S/L , the abundance of anammox bacteria decreased from 2.46×105 to 1.67×105 copies/mL, whereas the abundance of Nitrobacter spp. increased from 2.73×102 to 8.13×102 copies/mL. However, during long-term operation, there was a more pronounced decrease in the microbial abundance of anammox, reducing from 5.3×105 to 3.77×102 copies/mL. Taking this decrease together with the improved efficiency of anammox observed during long-term operation, these findings suggest that sulfide's influence on anammox primarily impacts its metabolic activity rather than its microbial abundance. A large amount of ammonium salt leaching agent will remain in the leaching site of weathered crust elution-deposited rare earth ore (WREOs). The release of residual ammonium (RA) will seriously affect the water system ecology of the mining area, and it is urgent to control it. In this paper, column eluting was used to simulate the eluting process of RA in rare earth (RE) ore tailings, and the effects of calcium chloride concentration, eluting temperature, liquid-solid ratio, eluent pH and eluent flow rate on the eluting process of RA in rare earth ore tailings were discussed. It was found that calcium chloride could effectively elute the RA from ore tailings. Eluting agent pH almost had no effect on the eluting process of RA in the pH range of 4–6, and a greater impact on it at pH 8. The flow rate could effectively enhance the elution efficiency. The optimum conditions were calcium ion concentration of 0.1 mol/L, liquid-solid ratio of 2:1, pH 4–6, flow rate of 0.6 mL/min and elution at room temperature. At this time, the elution efficiency of RA was 91.85%. The eluting process of RA in ore tailings was controlled by the inner particle diffusing according to the kinetic analysis. The reaction order was 0.368, and the activation energy of the reaction is 12.450 kJ/mol. In this work, we investigated the feasibility of ammonium removal by electrodialysis (ED), a well‐known electro‐membrane process, based on the selective migration of anions and cations through anion exchange membranes (AEMs) and cation exchange membranes (CEMs). ED experiments are performed using a laboratory pilot. The ion exchange membranes (IEMs) pair used is AXE/CMX, AXE as an AEMs and CMX as a CEMs. The first tests are performed with real groundwater solutions from Kenitra city (Morocco), spiked with an initial concentration of 3 mg/L NH4Cl. The results gave a specific demineralization (SD) to NH4+ ions of 84.60 %; for a demineralization rate (DR) of 80 % and a time of 60 min. The multivariate principal component analysis (PCA) presents a total inertia of 99.23 %, the majority of the variables of which are positively correlated on the C1 axis with a variance of 95.5 % than that of C2 of 3.78 %. The quality of the diluted water determined by the Legrand‐Poirier method showed that the water was aggressive and that the addition of 4.54 mg/L Ca2+ was necessary to balance the water and make it fit for human consumption. Background: The presence of oxygen in the growth medium is absolutely essential for root development and the overall metabolic processes of plants. When plants do not have an adequate oxygen supply for respiration, they can experience a condition known as hypoxia. In order to investigate the impact of different nitrogen forms and varying oxygen levels in nutrient solutions on the growth, photosynthesis, and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters of bell pepper plants, a comprehensive study was conducted. The experiment was designed as a factorial experiment, considering two main factors: nitrogen forms (calcium nitrate and ammonium sulfate) with a fixed nitrogen concentration of 5 mM, and the oxygen levels of the nutrient solutions (ranging from 1.8 ± 0.2 to 5.3 ± 0.2 mg. L-1). Results: The study examined the effects of nitrogen (NH4+ and NO3−) application on various parameters of vegetative growth. The results demonstrated that the use of ammonium (NH4+) led to a reduction in the most measured parameters, including the fresh and dry mass of both the root and shoot, at low O2 concentrations of 1.8 ± 0.2; 2.6 ± 0.2 and 3.8 ± 0.2 mg. L-1. However, an interesting observation was made regarding the impact of oxygen levels on root growth in plants grown with nitrate (NO3−). Specifically, the highest levels of oxygen significantly increased root growth in NO3−-fed plants. Additionally, the application of NH4+ resulted in an increase in chlorophyll concentration in the leaves, particularly when combined with high oxygen levels in the nutrient solution. On the other hand, leaves of plants fed with NO3− exhibited higher photosynthetic rate (A), intrinsic water use efficiency (iWUE), and instantaneous carboxylation efficiency (A/Ci) compared to those fed with NH4+. Furthermore, it was found that NO3−-fed plants displayed the highest instantaneous carboxylation efficiency at oxygen levels of 3.8 and 5.3 mg. L-1, while the lowest efficiency was observed at oxygen levels of 1.8 and 2.6 mg. L-1. In contrast, NH4+-grown plants exhibited a higher maximal quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (Fv/Fm), as well as increased variable fluorescence (Fv) and maximum fluorescence (Fm), compared to NO3−-grown plants. Interestingly, the NO3−-fed plants showed an increase in Fv/Fm, Fv, and Fm with the elevation of oxygen concentration in the nutrient solution up to 5.3 mg. L-1. Conclusion: This study showed that, the growth and photosynthesis parameters in bell pepper plants are sensitive to oxygen stress in floating hydroponic culture. Algal blooms are increasing worldwide, driven by elevated nutrient inputs. However, it is still unknown how tropical benthic algae will respond to heatwaves, which are expected to be more frequent under global warming. In the present study, a multifactorial experiment was carried out to investigate the potential synergistic effects of increased ammonium inputs (25 μM, control at 2.5 μM) and a heatwave (31°C, control at 25°C) on the growth and physiology (e.g., ammonium uptake, nutrient assimilation, photosynthetic performance, and pigment concentrations) of two bloom‐forming algal species, Cladophoropsis sp. and Laurencia sp. Both algae positively responded to elevated ammonium concentrations with higher growth and chlorophyll a and lutein concentrations. Increased temperature was generally a less important driver, interacting with elevated ammonium by decreasing the algaes' %N content and N:P ratios. Interestingly, this stress response was not captured by the photosynthetic yield (Fv/Fm) nor by the carbon assimilation (%C), which increased for both algae at higher temperatures. The negative effects of higher temperature were, however, buffered by nutrient inputs, showing an antagonistic response in the combined treatment for the concentration of VAZ (violaxanthin, antheraxanthin, zeaxanthin) and thalli growth. Ammonium uptake was initially higher for Cladophoropsis sp. and increased for Laurencia sp. over experimental time, showing an acclimation capacity even in a short time interval. This experiment shows that both algae benefited from increased ammonium pulses and were able to overcome the otherwise detrimental stress of increasingly emerging temperature anomalies, which provide them a strong competitive advantage and might support their further expansions in tropical marine systems. The integrated fixed‐film activated sludge (IFAS) process is considered one of the cutting‐edge solutions to the traditional wastewater treatment challenges, allowing suspended sludge and attached biofilm to grow in the same system. In addition, the coupling of IFAS with anaerobic ammonium oxidation (Anammox) can further improve the efficiency of biological denitrification. This paper summarises the research progress of IFAS coupled with the anammox process, including partial nitrification anammox, simultaneous partial nitrification anammox and denitrification, and partial denitrification anammox technologies, and describes the factors that limit the development of related processes. The effects of dissolved oxygen, influent carbon source, sludge retention time, temperature, microbial community, and nitrite‐oxidising bacteria inhibition methods on the anammox of IFAS are presented. Extensive industrial activities and anthropogenic agricultural practices have led to substantial ammonia release to the environment. Although croplands can act as ammonia sinks, reduced crop production under high concentrations of ammonium has been documented. Alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) is a critical carbon source, displaying pleiotropic physiological functions. The objective of the present study is to disclose the potential of AKG to enhance ammonium assimilation in poplars. It showed that AKG application substantially boosted the height, biomass, and photosynthesis activity of poplars exposed to excessive ammonium. AKG also enhanced the activities of key enzymes involved in nitrogen assimilation: glutamine synthetase (GS) and glutamate synthase (GOGAT), elevating the content of amino acids, sucrose, and the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA) metabolites. Furthermore, AKG positively modulated key genes tied to glucose metabolism and ATP synthesis, while suppressing ATP-depleting genes. Correspondingly, both H+-ATPase activity and ATP content increased. These findings demonstrate that exogenously applying AKG improves poplar growth under a high level of ammonium treatment. AKG might function through sufficient carbon investment, which enhances the carbon–nitrogen balance and energy stability in poplars, promoting ammonium assimilation at high doses of ammonium. A protocol for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrano[c]chromenes (DHPCs) using tris(2-hydroxyethyl)ammonium lactate (THAL) as an ionic liquid (IL) and biodegradable catalyst has been developed. Ammonium dinitramide (ADN, [ NH 4 ] + [ N (NO 2) 2 ] - ) and its related propellants are promising high energy density materials for new-generation space propulsion. In order to ensure their safe utilization, it is of primary importance to assess the risk of accidental combustion events such as detonation. Thus, focusing on ADN and its related propellant composed of ADN, monomethylamine nitrate, and urea with weight percentages of 40:40:20 (AMU442), we have studied the properties and steady structure of detonation propagating in gaseous mixtures formed by their thermal decomposition. The AMU442-based mixture exhibits higher von Neumann and Chapman–Jouguet temperatures and pressures than the ADN-based mixture. The study of their steady detonation structure reveals that the gaseous species resulting from the decomposition of AMU442 have higher detonability than the ones resulting from the decomposition of ADN alone. This is in contrast to a previous study about the safety of these propellants in their original (solid or liquid) phase, i.e., AMU442 has lower sensitivity/reactivity to incident impact than ADN. Thermochemical analyses performed for both mixtures show that the decomposition of HNO 3 plays a dominant role for the energy consumption and initiation of the reaction by releasing both OH and NO 2 . For the ADN-based mixture, the reactions involving HN (NO 2) 2 and HNO 3 are the most sensitive, whereas for the AMU442-based mixture, the most sensitive reactions involve CH 3 NH 2 , CH 2 NH 2 , and HNO 3 . Reaction pathway diagrams emphasize the higher complexity of the chemical pathways for the AMU442-based mixture because of the presence of [ CH 3 NH 3 ] + [ NO 3 ] - and CH 4 N 2 O in the initial mixture. Microbes contribute biologically available nitrogen to the ocean by fixing nitrogen gas from the atmosphere and by mineralizing organic nitrogen into bioavailable dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN). Although the large concentration of plants and algae in marine coastal environments provides ample habitat and reliable resources for microbial communities, the role of the microbiome in host-microbe nitrogen cycling remains poorly understood. We tested whether ammonification by epiphytic microbes increased water column ammonium and improved host access to nitrogen resources by converting organic nitrogen into inorganic nitrogen that is available for assimilation by hosts. When bull kelp (Nereocystis luetkeana) in the northeast Pacific was incubated with 15N labelled amino acid tracers, there was accumulation of 15N in kelp tissue, as well as accumulation of 15NH4 in seawater, all consistent with the conversion of dissolved organic nitrogen to ammonium. Metagenomic analysis of surface microbes from two populations of Nereocystis indicated relative similarity in the percentage of genes related to ammonification between the two locations, though the stressed kelp population that had lower tissue nitrogen and a sparser microbiome had greater ammonification rates. Catalpa bungei is a precious timber species distributed in North China where drought often occurs. To clarify adaptive responses of C. bungei to partial- and full- root-zone drought under the influence of nitrogen forms, a two-factor experiment was conducted in which well-watered (WW), partial root-zone drought in horizontal direction (H-PRD) and in vertical direction (V-PRD), and full root-zone drought (FRD) were combined with nitrate-nitrogen (NN) and ammonium-nitrogen (AN) treatments. C. bungei responded to FRD by sharply closing stomata, decreasing gas exchange rate and increasing leaf instantaneous water use efficiency (WUEi). Under FRD condition, the growth of seedlings was severely inhibited and the effect of N forms was covered up by the drastic drought effect. In comparison, stomata conductance and gas exchanges were moderately inhibited by PRDs. WUEi in V-PRD treatment was superior to H-PRD due to the active stomata regulation resulting from a higher ABA level and active transcription of genes in abscisic acid (ABA) signaling pathway under V-PRD. Under both PRDs and FRD, nitrate benefited antioxidant defense, stomata regulation and leaf WUEi. Under V-PRD, WUEi in nitrate treatment was superior to that in ammonium treatment due to active stomata regulation by signaling network of nitric oxide (NO), Ca2+ and ABA. Under FRD, WUEi was higher in nitrate treatment due to the favoring photosynthetic efficiency resulting from active NO signal and antioxidant defense. Background: In viticulture, iron (Fe) chlorosis is a common abiotic stress that impairs plant development and leads to yield and quality losses. Under low availability of the metal, the applied N form (nitrate and ammonium) can play a role in promoting or mitigating Fe deficiency stresses. However, the processes involved are not clear in grapevine. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the response of two grapevine rootstocks to the interaction between N forms and Fe uptake. This process was evaluated in a hydroponic experiment using two ungrafted grapevine rootstocks Fercal (Vitis berlandieri x V. vinifera) tolerant to deficiency induced Fe chlorosis and Couderc 3309 (V. riparia x V. rupestris) susceptible to deficiency induced Fe chlorosis. Results: The results could differentiate Fe deficiency effects, N-forms effects, and rootstock effects. Interveinal chlorosis of young leaves appeared earlier on 3309 C from the second week of treatment with NO3−/NH4+ (1:0)/-Fe, while Fercal leaves showed less severe symptoms after four weeks of treatment, corresponding to decreased chlorophyll concentrations lowered by 75% in 3309 C and 57% in Fercal. Ferric chelate reductase (FCR) activity was by trend enhanced under Fe deficiency in Fercal with both N combinations, whereas 3309 C showed an increase in FCR activity under Fe deficiency only with NO3−/NH4+ (1:1) treatment. With the transcriptome analysis, Gene Ontology (GO) revealed multiple biological processes and molecular functions that were significantly regulated in grapevine rootstocks under Fe-deficient conditions, with more genes regulated in Fercal responses, especially when both forms of N were supplied. Furthermore, the expression of genes involved in the auxin and abscisic acid metabolic pathways was markedly increased by the equal supply of both forms of N under Fe deficiency conditions. In addition, changes in the expression of genes related to Fe uptake, regulation, and transport reflected the different responses of the two grapevine rootstocks to different N forms. Conclusions: Results show a clear contribution of N forms to the response of the two grapevine rootstocks under Fe deficiency, highlighting the importance of providing both N forms (nitrate and ammonium) in an appropriate ratio in order to ease the rootstock responses to Fe deficiency. The n-octyl and octadiene derivatives have the highest selectivity for resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus when there is no negative effect on the hemostasis system. A facile hydrothermal-calcination process was employed to fabricate Fe3O4/α-Fe2O3 heterogeneous nanosheets utilizing NH4H2PO4 as the restricted growth agent and FeCl3 as the iron source. The morphologies and properties of the obtained nanomaterials were investigated by SEM, XRD, VSM, and TEM techniques. In the hydrothermal process, an H2PO4− concentration of 1.44 mM, Fe3+ concentration of 20 mM, a hydrothermal temperature of 220 °C, and a hydrothermal time of 24 h were selected as the optimal conditions for α-Fe2O3 nanosheets, their average diameter and thickness of the resulting nanosheets were approximately 150 and 53 nm. Subsequently, glucose was utilized as a reducing agent to partially reduce the precursor of α-Fe2O3 to Fe3O4, thereby forming Fe3O4/α-Fe2O3 heterogeneous nanosheets. During the calcination process, the effects of calcination time, calcination temperature, and glucose content on the morphology and properties of the nanosheets were investigated. The morphology and size of the prepared nanosheets did not change significantly during the calcination process, while the magnetic properties of the products underwent significant changes. When the product was calcined at 600 °C for 4 h with a mass ratio of precursor to glucose was 1:12, the saturation magnetization of as-prepared Fe3O4/α-Fe2O3 heterogeneous nanosheets reached the largest of 80 emu/g. Nitrogen and brassinosteroids (BRs) play a vital role in modulating the growth, development, and yield of rice. However, the influences of BRs on nitrogen assimilation and metabolism in rice are not fully understood. In this study, we analyzed the impact of BRs on nitrogen utilization in rice using the indica variety 'Zhongjiazao 17' and the japonica variety 'Nipponbare' in hydroponic conditions. The results showed that BR treatment could efficiently elevate nitrate and ammonium nitrogen accumulation in both shoots and roots. Furthermore, some genes involved in the uptake of nitrate and ammonium in roots were stimulated by BRs, though we noted subtle variances between the two rice cultivars. Moreover, BRs augmented the activity of nitrate reductase (NR) and glutamine synthetase (GS) in roots, along with NR in shoots. Interestingly, BRs also spiked the total free amino acid content in both the shoots and roots. Gene expression analysis uncovered a robust induction by BRs of NR genes and GS-related genes in the roots of both 'Nipponbare' and 'Zhongjiazao 17'. Collectively, our data suggest that BRs significantly enhance the accumulation of both nitrate and ammonium in rice and trigger a series of reactions related to nitrogen utilization. This study aimed to use colloidal silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) for ammonium adsorption. Several factors were considered, including pH value, contact time, amount of adsorbent, and beginning ammonium content. The ideal parameters for ammonium adsorption onto the AgNPs were an a pH of 9, a contact period of 60 minutes, a concentration of 1.824 mg AgNPs/25 mL of ammonium solution, and a starting concentration of 80 mL, as determined. The optimum ammonium adsorption capacity onto the AgNPs was 276.84 mg/g, and the Langmuir model described the isotherm adsorption with R2, KL, and calculated qmax values of 0.9339, 0.518 L/mg, and 263.37 mg/g, respectively. The experimental data were most closely matched by the Elovich model, as seen by its R2, α, and β values of 0.885, 0.055, and 0.180, respectively. The reaction of 4,6-di-tert-butyl-2,3-dihydroxybenzaldehyde with analogs of Girard's reagents was used to synthesize new water-soluble ammonium acylhydrazones as individual EC=N,synN-C(O) isomers. The introduction of an additional sterically hindered phenolic moiety into ammonium N-acylhydrazone leads to the emergence of antimicrobial activity against gram-negative pathogens of bacterial (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli) and fungal origin (Candida albicans). A novel method has been developed to use ammonium tetrafluoroborate (NH4BF4) directly as catalyst in Biginelli reaction. A new paradigm of the Biginelli reaction for the synthesis of 3,4‐dihydropyrimidin‐2(1H)‐ones derivatives found the use of ammonium tetrafluoroborate as a novel, inexpensive, readily available, non‐toxic and mild catalyst in good to excellent yields. Notably, this is the first time that ammonium tetrafluoroborate is directly used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. So far, no organic reaction is available in literature where NH4BF4 is directly used as catalyst. However, some reactions are found where NH4BF4 is used with other catalysts as promoters or additives. The presence of ammonium (NH4+) in natural waters has increased in the last years due to the rising use of agricultural fertilizers, industrial activity and sewage discharges without any decontamination treatment. The great amounts of this inorganic cation in water bodies have been considered an environmental problem, due to its influence on the eutrophication process which leads to the deterioration of water quality. The application of ZnO nanoparticles to assess nutrient elimination, including ammonium, from water bodies has not been exhaustively studied. In this work, the capability of ZnO nanoparticles to remove ammonium cation from aqueous samples induced by adsorption is investigated. In this regards, experiments tending to determine the efficiency of nanomaterials have been performed employing two different NH4+ concentrations aiming to replicate two feasible real water-impacted environments. The interactions between adsorbent and adsorbate have been explored by employing experimental characterization techniques as well as theoretical DFT simulations. The achieved data demonstrated that the efficiency of ZnONPs shows a dependency on the ammonium concentration, ranging between 0.79 and 11.6 mg of ammonium adsorbed per gram of ZnONPs. According to the data on characterization prior and post adsorption of the ZnO nanomaterials the electrostatic interaction would not be favored, being the coordination ones the most feasible as suggested experimental and DFT results. The access of vinasse leachates to water bodies and groundwater exacerbates environmental problems, especially eutrophication. Therefore, a column experiment was performed to examine the effect of adding zeolite (ZL), bone char (BC), and wood chips biochar (WCB) in the presence of vinasse on carbon dioxide (CO2) emission, leaching dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and ammonium (NH4+) in calcareous sandy soil, as well as studying the kinetics of leaching dissolved organic carbon and ammonium. This column experiment contains four treatments: soil alone (CK), soil + zeolite (SZL), soil + bone char (SBC), and soil + wood chips biochar (SWCB). These amendments were applied to the soil at a level of 4%. Vinasse was added to all treatments at a level of 13 mL per column. The leached total cumulative DOC and total cumulative soluble ammonium amounts decreased significantly with applying ZL, BC, and WCB compared with the soil alone. The effectiveness of these amendments in lowering the total cumulative DOC leaching is in the order of SBC > SWCB > SZL > CK. However, the effectiveness of these amendments in decreasing the total cumulative NH4+ leaching is in the order of SZL > SWCB > SBC > CK. The rate constant (k) of DOC leaching decreased significantly with the application of bone char compared to soil alone treatment. In the presence of vinasse, the apparent half-life of leached DOC from the soil was 8.1, 12.9, 36.7, and 15.5 days for soil CK, SZL, SBC, and SWCB treatments, respectively. Half-life values of leached soluble ammonium from the soil in the presence of vinasse addition were 10.1, 39.5, 28.5, and 37.9 days for CK, SZL, SBC, and SWCB treatments, respectively. Amending soil with BC increased significantly the phosphorus availability, however, applying ZL and BC caused a significant increase in the available potassium in calcareous sandy soil compared to the control treatment. According to these results, it is recommended not to add vinasse alone to sandy soils, but it is preferred to be co-applied with BC amendment at the level of 4% better than ZL and WCB. This would decrease leaching DOC and ammonium to the water table and groundwater as well as enhance nutrient retention in the soil, which in turn, plays a vital role in reducing the harmful effect of vinasse and improving soil fertility. Layered two‐dimensional (2D) perovskites are emerging as promising optoelectronic materials owing to their excellent environmental stability. Regulating the dipole moment of organic spacers has the potential to reduce the exciton binding energy (Eb) of 2D perovskites and improve their photovoltaic performance. Here, we developed two azetidine‐based secondary ammonium spacers with different electron‐withdrawing groups, namely 3‐hydroxyazatidine (3‐OHAz) and 3,3‐difluoroazetidine (3,3‐DFAz) spacers, for 2D Ruddlesden‐Popper (RP) perovskites. It was found that the large dipole moment of the fluorinated dipole spacer could effectively enhance the interaction between organic spacers and inorganic layers, leading to improved charge dissociation in 2D RP perovskite. In contrast to 3‐OHAz spacer, the 2D perovskite using 3,3‐DFAz as spacer also shows improved film quality, optimized energy level alignment, and reduced exciton binding energy. As a result, the 2D perovskite (n=4) device based on 3,3‐DFAz yields an outstanding efficiency of 19.28 %, surpassing that of the 3‐OHAz‐Pb device (PCE=11.35 %). The efficiency was further improved to 19.85 % when using mixed A‐site cation of MA0.95FA0.05. This work provides an effective strategy for modulating the energy level alignment and reducing the Eb by regulating the dipole moment of organic spacers, ultimately enabling the development of high‐performance 2D perovskite solar cells. Big Soda Lake, Nevada, is a multi‐extreme meromictic lake, whose hypersaline hyperalkaline bottom waters feature permanent anoxia and high concentrations of arsenic, sulphide and ammonia. These properties make Big Soda Lake—and the adjacent Little Soda Lake—a fascinating system for exploring life's boundaries, discovering novel microbial taxa and identifying biotechnologically useful strains. To date, the taxonomic diversity and metabolic capabilities of microorganisms in this system remain largely unknown. Here, we fill this gap using microbiome surveys across the Big and Little Soda Lake water columns, including 16S rRNA sequencing, fungal ITS2 sequencing and gene‐ and genome‐resolved metagenomics. We accompany these surveys with measurements of salinity, pH, temperature, oxygen, ammonium and ammonia concentrations. Our analyses reveal rich bacterial communities, taxonomically and functionally differentiated along Big Soda Lake's oxycline and, to lesser extent, between lakes. Fungal communities were dominated by a small number of families, while nearly no archaea were detected. Pathways related to perchlorate reduction, anoxygenic phototrophy, fermentation, dissimilatory metabolism of arsenite/arsenate, sulphur compounds, nitrogen compounds and hydrogen, were particularly prevalent. A total of 129 high‐quality bacterial and archaeal metagenome‐assembled genomes (completeness ≥ 80%, contamination ≤ 5%) were recovered, yielding insight into the taxonomic distribution of microbial metabolic pathways.
