Introduction: Kidney transplant is the treatment of choice as a substitution therapy in patients with end stage renal failure. The mean source of kidneys for renal transplant in Mexico, are living donors. Living donors are susceptible to develop creatinine clearance disturbances in as many as 30% of cases. At this time in Mexico, we don't know the incidence or renal function alteration in living donors. Objective: To identify changes in creatinine clearance after kidney donation in a group of living donors. Material and methods: Two year long cohort retrospective study. Living donors who had nephroureterectomy at the Pediatrics Hospital IMSS, in Guadalajara, Jal. Living donors were over 18 years old and of any gender. Living donors were evaluated from their first visit to the urologist until the end of the study. Creatinine clearance evaluations were made at 6, 12, 18, and 24 months after kidney donation. A descriptive analysis was made with the SPSS 18.0 program. A p value equal or less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: 239 living donors were included, with a mean age of 37 ± 7 years. 58% were women and the mean BMI was 27 ± 4. 38% of living donors had kidney function alterations at the end of the study. Age, gender and BMI were not associated with changes in creatinine clearance. Conclusion: The incidence of creatinine clearance disturbances in living donors after a 2 year period of follow up is high. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
