Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a prevalent neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Individuals with ADHD often encounter heightened emotional and behavioral challenges. This study aims to conduct a meta-analysis of the efficacy of digital interventions in improving symptoms of ADHD. This study searched 6 databases for English articles from database construction until December 4, 2023. Randomized controlled trials employing digital interventions for ADHD were gathered. Following the Cochrane Collaboration criteria, Review Manager 5.3 software was utilized to evaluate the risk of bias present in the included papers. Mean differences for post-intervention and follow-up data were standardized using Stata 18.0 software. Subgroup analysis was employed to investigate the sources of heterogeneity. The study adhered to the PRISMA guidelines and was registered on the PROSPERO platform (CRD42024504134). This review included a total of 25 randomized controlled trials (RCTs). The combined study population comprised 1780 cases. In the digital intervention groups, there was a significant decrease in overall ADHD symptoms (SMD = −0.33; 95 % CI = [−0.51, −0.16]) compared to the control groups. Furthermore, there was a significant reduction in inattention symptoms (SMD = −0.31; 95 % CI = [−0.46, −0.15]) and hyperactivity/impulsivity symptoms (SMD = −0.15; 95 % CI = [−0.29, −0.02]) within the digital intervention groups. The digital interventions proved beneficial for individuals with ADHD by alleviating symptoms of ADHD, inattention, and hyperactivity/impulsivity. • Integrating results from multiple studies to explore the impact of digital interventions on ADHD. • Subgroup analyses were used to explore the effects of digital interventions on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in different age groups, different intervention durations, and different control groups. • The results of the meta-analysis provide guidance for future research on digital interventions for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and help researchers to better design digital interventions. We studied SARS-CoV-2 binding and neutralizing antibody titers among previously infected persons in the United States over time. We assayed SARS-CoV-2 spike protein receptor-binding domain and neutralizing antibody titers for a convenience sample of residual clinical serum specimens that had evidence of prior SARS-CoV-2 infection gathered during January 2021-February 2022. We correlated titers and examined them by age group (<18, 18-49, 50-64, and >65 years) across 4 different SARS-CoV-2 variant epochs. Among selected specimens, 30,967 had binding antibody titers and 744 had neutralizing titers available. Titers in specimens from children and adults correlated. In addition, mean binding antibody titers increased over time for all age groups, and mean neutralization titers increased over time for persons 16-49 and >65 years of age. Incorporating binding and neutralization antibody titers into infectious disease surveillance could provide a clearer picture of overall immunity and help target vaccination campaigns. Locomotion is essential to most of the living organisms. The nematode Teratorhabditis palmarum (Gerber & Giblin-Davis, 1990), must be able to accommodate its locomotory gait to its physical environment. Particularly, when crawl on a solid surface, it shows forward movement as the contraction waves propagates from anterior to the posterior region. In the present study, we analyzed the locomotory behavior of T. palmarum on agar by using computational worm-tracking system and mathematical tools. Our tracking system was made to assist worms that travel a vast area with recurrent turns and reversals at high speeds. The locomotory parameters studied were velocity, wavelength, amplitude, angle of bending, curvature map, forward, reversal, omega and pause that was extracted from a two min video recording. Here, we examined the locomotory behaviour (movement and wave characteristic) of two, six and ten days old nematodes. In movement characteristic, except pause which increases; forward wave, backward wave and omega wave decrease significantly. In wave characteristic, wavelength and amplitude increase while average velocity and bending angle decrease significantly. Locomotion was observed between various age groups and it was concluded that as the nematodes aged, mild locomotory deficits appeared that were enough to reduce behavioral activity. Personality trait measures for children are rarely based on the HEXACO Model of Personality, although research using this framework could provide important insights into the structure and development of children's personalities. There is no HEXACO measure for elementary school children to date, and existing measures for older children seem inappropriate for this age group (e.g., due to some item content). We thus compiled two HEXACO-based short forms for measuring personality in elementary school children (8-10 years old) via parent reports. We applied a meta-heuristic item sampling algorithm (Ant Colony Optimization) in a training sample with 1,641 parent reports of 122 administered items. We selected a 54-Item Short Form comprising a latent facet structure and an 18-Item Ultra-Short Form comprising a correlated factors model for all six HEXACO dimensions but no facet structure. Both short forms showed good model fit in a holdout sample (n = 411) and sufficiently high re-test correlations after six months. Convergent and divergent validities for maximal performance measures and socio-emotional constructs (also measured six months after the initial personality assessment) were largely in line with theoretical assumptions. This study aims to comprehensively identify the contributing factors affecting the adoption of flex route transit. A survey was conducted in 2019, and a multiple indicators multiple causes (MIMIC) model was utilized to capture individuals' preferences toward car, fixed route, and flex route transit. Subsequently, the multinomial logit model with attitudinal features is employed to identify the key factors influencing the shift from car or fixed route to flex route transit. Results indicate that several factors contribute to flex route transit adoption, with the top three being car restriction, travel cost, and age groups. Car restriction is positively associated with flex route transit adoption (marginal effects 11.67%). Travel costs (≥1.49 US$) and elderly groups also contribute to an increase in flex route transit adoption, with marginal effects of 9.18% and 8.01%, respectively. Background Very few studies have evaluated the global prevalence of pruritus. Objectives To assess its prevalence according to age, sex, ethnicity and geographic region. Methods An international cross-sectional study was conducted in 20 countries from January to April 2023. Participants were asked to complete a questionnaire on sociodemographics, and to confirm the presence or absence of a skin disease in the last 12 months and the presence or absence of pruritus in the last 7 days. Results The studied sample included 50 552 individuals. The worldwide prevalence of pruritus was 39.8%. The age group ≥ 65 years had the highest prevalence (43.3%). The prevalence was 40.7% among women and 38.9% among men (P < 0.001). There was no significant difference between ethnicities (P = 0.14). Compared with North America (41.2%), the prevalence of pruritus was significantly lower in Europe (35.9%, P < 0.001), Australia (38.4%, P = 0.017), East Asia (40.2%, P = 0.04) and Latin America (36.5%, P < 0.001), and higher in Africa (45.7%, P = 0.007). No significant difference was found with the Middle East (40.2%, P = 0.36). The prevalence of pruritus in BRICS countries (40.3%) was significantly higher than that in developed countries (38.7%) (P < 10– 3 ). Conclusions Out analysis is limited because there is no information about the severity or type (acute, chronic) of pruritus. Working memory serves as a means to accumulate information and reorganize it. Researchers have long assumed that the natural organization of information is one stream at a time. This logic leads to the expectation that, when two different series of stimuli are to be remembered, performance should be superior if the series are presented one before the other in succession, rather than concurrently. Moreover, different accounts of attentional limits lead to different expectations for the change in the ability to encode two sets across age groups in childhood. Testing children from first grade (6–7 years) to adulthood, we presented sequences of colored objects and tones in succession or concurrently (with one color accompanying an unrelated tone) and found that performance was equally good no matter which presentation method was used. The results for both presentation methods closely matched the intricate pattern of development observed by Cowan et al. (2018), who used successive presentation only. We found marked developmental improvement in the ability to retain materials in each modality without an increasing cost of attention‐sharing between modalities. Humans at least from the elementary school years through young adulthood thus display an ability to accommodate and organize two concurrent streams of information. There is substantial evidence that children's apparent omission of grammatical morphemes in utterances such as "She play tennis" and "Mummy eating" is in fact errors of commission in which contextually licensed unmarked forms encountered in the input are reproduced in a context‐blind fashion. So how do children stop making such errors? In this study, we test the assumption that children's ability to recover from error is related to their developing sensitivity to longer‐range dependencies. We use a pre‐registered corpus analysis to explore the predictive value of different cues with regards to children's verb‐marking errors and observe a developmental pattern consistent with this account. We look at context‐independent cues (the identity of the specific verb being used) and at the relative value of context‐dependent cues (the identity of the specific subject+verb sequence being used). We find that the only consistent effect across a group of 2‐ to 3‐year‐olds and a group of 3‐ to 4‐year‐olds is the relative frequency of unmarked forms of specific subject+verb sequences being used. The relative frequency of unmarked forms of the verb alone is predictive only in the younger age group. This is consistent with an account in which children recover from making errors by becoming progressively more sensitive to context, at first the immediately preceding lexical contexts (e.g., the subject that precedes the verb) and eventually more distant grammatical markers (e.g., the fronted auxiliary that precedes the subject in questions). Objective: To compare postoperative stay in octogenarians and younger patients undergoing gynecologic oncology robot‐assisted surgery. Methods: A retrospective review of robot‐assisted surgery in Gynecological Oncology division during 2019–2022. We included all consecutive cases. Octogenarians (age ≥80 years) and younger patients were investigated by univariable analysis for characteristics and outcome. Results: A total of 816 robot‐assisted surgeries were performed, 426 (52.2%) endometrial cancer, 159 (19.5%) ovarian cancer, 27 (3.3%) cervical cancer, 35 (4.3%) endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia, and in 169 (20.7%) the final pathology was benign. There were 60 (7.4%) octogenarians and 756 (92.6%) younger patients. The proportion of patients with an American Society of Anesthesiology score greater than 2 was higher among octogenarians (66.7% vs 32.0%, P < 0.001). The median console time, surgical time, and total operation theater time were similar between groups (P = 0.303, P = 0.643 and P = 0.688, respectively). Conversion rate did not differ between groups (0.4% among younger patients vs 0% in octogenarians, P > 0.99). The median length of stay in the recovery room was similar in both groups (median 170 min, interquartile range [IQR] 125–225 min vs 170 min, IQR 128–240 min in octogenarians, P = 0.731). Length of hospital stay was similar in both age groups; median 1 day (IQR 1–1) among octogenarians versus 1 (0–1) in younger patients (P = 0.136). Conclusion: Octogenarians undergoing robotic surgery have no increased risk of length of stay or conversion to laparotomy compared with younger patients. The performance of color matching functions (CMFs) is important to color specification and calibration. In comparison to the great number of studies focusing on the effect of primary set, few studies focused on how observer age and field of view (FOV) jointly affected the performance of CMFs. In this study, a color matching experiment with three different primary sets, which were carefully selected based on our previous study, was carried out by two observer age groups under four FOVs (i.e., 2°, 4°, 8°, and 13°). The results suggested that the observer age had a more significant effect than the FOV, and the change of the FOV did not introduce a systematic trend to the color matching results. Neither the CIE 1931 2° nor 1964 10° CMFs were found to accurately characterize the color matches. The CIE 2006 CMFs with the FOV set to the experiment setup also did not have good performance. Aim and objectives: In forensic age estimation e.g. for judicial proceedings surpassed age thresholds can be legally relevant. To examine age related differences in skeletal development the recommendations by the Study Group on Forensic Age Diagnostics (AGFAD) are based on ionizing radiation (among others orthopantomograms, plain x-rays of the hand). Vieth et al. and Ottow et al. proposed MRI-classifications for the epiphyseal-diaphyseal fusion of the knee joint to define different age groups in healthy volunteers. The aim of the present study was to directly compare these two classifications in a large German patient population. Materials and methods: MRI of the knee joint of 900 patients (405 female, 495 male) from 10 to 28 years of age were retrospectively analyzed. Acquired T1-weighted turbo spin-echo sequence (TSE) and T2-weighted sequence with fat suppression by turbo inversion recovery magnitude (TIRM) were analyzed for the two classifications. The different bony fusion stages of the two classifications were determined and the corresponding chronological ages assigned. Differences between the sexes were analyzed. Intra- and inter-observer agreements were determined using Cohen's kappa. Results: With the classification of Ottow et al. it was possible to determine completion of the 18th and 21st year of life in both sexes. With the classification of Vieth et al. completion of the 18th year of life for female patients and the 14th and 21st year of life in both sexes could be determined. The intra- and inter-observer agreement levels were very good (κ > 0.82). Conclusion: In the large German patient cohort of this study it was possible to determine the 18th year of life with for both sexes with the classification of Ottow et al. and for female patients with the classification of Vieth et al. Cranial vault thickness (CVT) and its variations provide valuable insights into an individual's biological attributes such as age and sex. This paper aimed to assess the correlations of CVT with age and sex and develop a regression model for age estimation in Malaysian subadults using computed tomography (CT) images. A total of 521 CT images (male/female: 279/242; age range: 0–20 years; Malay/Chinese/Indian: 221/145/155) were included in the study. Correlations of CVT measurements with age and sex, including frontal bone thickness (FBT), occipital bone thickness (OBT), left parietal bone thickness (LPBT), and right parietal bone thickness (RPBT) were assessed and regression formulae were developed for age estimation in subadults. A significant correlation between CVT measurements and age was demonstrated (p < 0.001). Age estimation was most accurate in the younger age group (< 2 years) at frontal and occipital, and accuracy decreases in the older age groups. Additionally, sexual dimorphism was evident in the frontal and parietal bone thickness within the age range of 3–6 years and 16–20 years, respectively. Fingernails can act as important forensic evidence as they can be a source of DNA that may link the victim or accused to the crime scene and may also contain traces of drugs such as cocaine and heroin, in regular users. Moreover, previous studies have shown that analyzing fingernails with various techniques can reveal important information, such as age and sex. In this work, ATR-FTIR spectroscopy with chemometric tools has been used to estimate the age and sex from fingernails by analyzing 140 fingernail samples (70 males, and 70 females) collected from volunteers aged between 10 and 70 years old. The amide bands obtained from spectra confirmed the presence of keratin proteins in the samples. PCA and PLS-R were used for the classification of samples. For sex estimation, samples were divided into four categories based on age groups, followed by the differentiation of sex in each group. Similarly, for age estimation, all samples were divided into two sets based on male and female followed by differentiation of age groups in each set. The result showed that PLS-R was able to differentiate fingernail samples based on sex in groups G1, G2, G3, and G4 with R-square values of 0.972, 0.993, 0.991, and 0.996, respectively, and based on age in females, and males with R-square values of 0.93 and 0.97, respectively. External validation and blind tests were also performed which showed results with 100% accuracy. This approach has proved to be effective for the estimation of sex and age from fingernail samples. Background: Seasonal influenza is prevented through annual vaccination, especially in children and older adults. These vaccines are annually updated based on World Health Organization recommendations and require continuous safety monitoring. Objective: We assessed the frequency and severity of adverse events within 7 days of administering GSK's inactivated quadrivalent seasonal influenza vaccine (IIV4) in Belgium, Germany, and Spain during the 2022/2023 influenza season. Methods: In this enhanced safety surveillance study, adults who received GSK's IIV4 and parents/guardians/legally acceptable representatives of vaccinated children (aged 6 months–17 years) were invited to complete adverse drug reaction cards reporting adverse events within 7 days post-vaccination. Results: In total, 1332 participants (53.6% female) received at least one dose of GSK's IIV4, including 43 children who received two doses. Overall, 97.8% of adverse drug reaction cards were completed and returned in the study. All participants in Belgium were adults, while 54.7% and 7.4% in Spain and Germany, respectively, were pediatric participants aged 6 months–17 years. After Dose 1, across all age groups, 49.8% of participants reported at least one adverse event. The most common adverse events (cumulative frequency >5%) following Dose 1 were injection-site pain (37.6%), fatigue (15.0%), headache (13.2%), injection-site swelling (9.3%), myalgia (7.6%), and injection-site erythema (7.4%). Across all countries, adverse events were most common in adults aged 18–65 years (59.7%), followed by those aged 3–17 years (47.0%), >65 years (35.7%), and 6–35 months (23.5%). After Dose 2, 18.6% of participants reported at least one adverse event, with general disorders and administration site conditions again being the most frequent. Conclusions: Across all age and risk groups for serious disease, no serious adverse events related to GSK's IIV4 were reported within 7 days post-vaccination. This is a single-center population study, focusing on all children born from cycles of in vitro fertilization of cryopreserved oocytes at Humanitas Fertility Center from January 1st,2003, until December 31st, 2021. General information about birth history were collected from all parents. Then, screening for developmental delay was performed by administration of a questionnaire, edited according to milestones set for age by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Primary outcomes included the percentage of children, for each age range, that reached related milestones. In children younger than 6 years of age, milestones were considered to be reached by each age-based population subgroup studied when ≥ 75 % of included children expressed the tested competences. A total of 355 live births fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were included in the study. Results showed that each age-based population subgroup, younger than 6 years of age, scored ≥ 75 % in all the milestones included in the questionnaire. In preadolescents and adolescents, it was noted a decrease in unstructured in-person socializing. Indeed, milestones that scored the lowest values, based on parents' judgement, included tasks concerning peer-to-peer interaction (72.31%) and sexuality and sentimental relationships (63.08%). Results indicated that the achievement of emotional, communicative, cognitive, and motor milestones in infants, toddlers, and preschoolers was comparable to the general pediatric population. Precise estimates of the impact of famine on infant and child mortality are rare due to lack of representative data. Using vital statistics reports on the Netherlands for 1935–47, we examine the impact of the Dutch famine (November 1944 to May 1945) on age-specific mortality risk and cause of death in four age groups (stillbirths, <1 year, 1–4, 5–14) in the three largest famine-affected cities and the remainder of the country. Mortality during the famine is compared with the pre-war period January 1935 to April 1940, the war period May 1940 to October 1944, and the post-war period June 1945 to December 1947. The famine's impact was most visible in infants because of the combined effects of a high absolute death rate and a threefold increase in proportional mortality, mostly from gastrointestinal conditions. This study analyzes the epidemiology of pediatric drowning in Israel from 2010 to 2022, focusing on differences across age groups, sex, and regions. We conducted a retrospective cohort study using data from the Ministry of Health's administrative databases, covering all children aged 0–17 years who were seen in the emergency department, discharged after hospitalization, or died at the scene due to drowning, excluding cases of intentional harm or suicide. The primary outcome was the annual drowning rate per 100,000 children, categorized by age, sex, and region, along with hospitalization duration, intensive care unit admissions, and mortality rates. A total of 2101 drowning incidents were identified, with 9% resulting in death. Higher drowning rates were found in younger children (1–4 years) and teenagers (15–17 years), with notable differences by sex. Drowning rates were higher in coastal regions and more frequent during winter and spring. An increase in drowning rates was observed over the last 3 years of the study (2020–2022). Children hospitalized for more than 3 days had significantly higher mortality rates, both in general wards and intensive care units. Conclusions: Pediatric drowning is a persistent public health concern in Israel, with distinct seasonal, regional, age-specific, and sex-specific patterns in incidence and mortality. This study underscores the need for a comprehensive prevention strategy that includes year-round public education, environmental safety measures, and targeted interventions for high-risk groups to reduce drowning incidents and fatalities among children effectively. To stratify groups of infants by gestational age and identify the lower limit of normal (LLN) of the cross-sectional area of peripheral muscles as well as diaphragmatic excursion and thickness and parasternal activation during spontaneous respiration in full-term and preterm newborns. A cross-sectional study was conducted at a neonatal unit. Preterm newborns (PTNBs) with gestational age of 28 to 366/7 weeks and full-term newborns (NBs) with gestational age of 37 to 416/7 weeks, clinically and hemodynamically stable, breathing ambient air with no signs of respiratory distress were included. NBs on oxygen therapy, those with known genetic syndromes, malformations of the nervous system and those having undergone surgery were excluded. Ultrasound was performed over the rectus femoris, tibialis anterior, and biceps brachii muscles (cross-sectional area) and diaphragm (thickness and excursion). One hundred twenty NBs were stratified based on gestational age (< 30 weeks [n = 25]; 31 to 35 weeks [n = 51]; 37 to 41 6/7 weeks [n = 44]). Significant differences were found in the cross-sectional area of the rectus femoris muscles and thigh circumference of NBs > 37 weeks compared to the other 2 groups (p < 0.05). Differences were found in diaphragm thickness and excursion between the groups with gestational age > 37 weeks and < 30 weeks. Greater activation of the parasternal muscles was found in the PTNBs. With regard to LLN, significant differences were found between the groups with gestational age > 37 weeks and < 30 weeks for all variables analyzed and between the group with gestational age > 37 weeks and other 2 groups for the cross-sectional area of the rectus femoris, diaphragmatic excursion, and diaphragm contraction velocity. Differences were found among the groups in the size of peripheral muscles as well as diaphragm thickness and excursion. Moreover, greater activation of the parasternal muscle was found in NBs with gestational age < 30 weeks. Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) poses a significant challenge as the most common late morbidity of preterm infants. This study aimed to evaluate airway abnormalities in infants with BPD who underwent flexible bronchoscopy (FB) to gain insights into the prevalence of upper airway obstruction and associated complications. A retrospective case–control study was conducted on BPD patients who underwent FB at a tertiary center between 2013 and 2023. BPD patients were matched (1:3) with a reference group based on age, gender, and ethnicity, who also had undergone FB. Demographic data, comorbidities, indications for FB, findings, and complications during and after FB were collected. The study included 50 BPD patients (mean age 1.26 ± 0.9 years, 58% males), and 150 controls. As expected, BPD patients had a lower gestational age, lower birth weight, and longer hospitalizations and were treated with more medications. Abnormal bronchoscopy findings were significantly more common in the BPD group compared to the reference group, with an increased rate of turbinate hypertrophy (OR [95% CI]: 3.44 [1.27–9.37], P = 0.014), adenoid hypertrophy (OR: 2.7 [1.38–5.29], P = 0.004), lingual tonsils (OR: 5.44 [1.29–27.4], P = 0.0024), subglottic stenosis (OR: 6.95 [2.08–27.1], P = 0.002), and tracheomalacia (OR: 2.98 [1.06–8.19], P = 0.034). Complications including desaturation (OR: 3.89 [1.32–11.7], P = 0.013) and PICU admission (OR: 16.6 [2.58–322], P = 0.011) were more frequent in the BPD than in the reference group. Conclusion: The study revealed a high prevalence of structural anomalies leading to upper airway obstruction and complications in infants with BPD undergoing FB. These findings emphasize the importance of careful consideration and preparation for bronchoscopic procedures in this vulnerable population. Background: Men exhibit higher prevalence of modifiable risk factors, such as smoking and alcohol consumption, leading to greater cancer incidence and lower survival rates. Comprehensive evidence on global cancer burden among men, including disparities by age group and country, is sparse. To address this, the authors analyzed 30 cancer types among men in 2022, with projections estimated for 2050. Methods: The 2022 GLOBOCAN estimates were used to describe cancer statistics for men in 185 countries/territories worldwide. Mortality‐to‐incidence ratios (MIRs) were calculated by dividing age‐standardized mortality rates by incidence rates. Results: In 2022, a high MIR (indicating poor survival) was observed among older men (aged 65 years and older; 61%) for rare cancer types (pancreatic cancer, 91%) and in countries with low a Human Development Index (HDI; 74%). Between 2022 and 2050, cancer cases are projected to increase from 10.3 million to 19 million (≥84%). Deaths are projected to increase from 5.4 million to 10.5 million (≥93%), with a greater than two‐fold increase among men aged 65 years and older (≥117%) and for low‐HDI and medium‐HDI countries/territories (≥160%). Cancer cases and deaths are projected to increase among working‐age groups (≥39%) and very‐high‐HDI countries/territories (≥50%). Conclusions: Substantial disparities in cancer cases and deaths were observed among men in 2022, and these are projected to widen by 2050. Strengthening health infrastructure, enhancing workforce quality and access, fostering national and international collaborations, and promoting universal health coverage are crucial to reducing cancer disparities and ensuring cancer equity among men globally. Between 2014 and 2018 there was an unprecedented wave of jihadist terrorist activity in Austria that was mostly related to the "Islamic state." Meanwhile, many individuals have been or are gradually being released from prison. While many were able to disengage, two prevented and sentenced foreign fighters planned attacks in Vienna, one of them succeeded. In order to better understand this type of perpetrator, files of a cohort of 56 convicted jihadist terrorist offenders were analyzed. Half of this cohort were foreign fighters or attempted to become foreign fighters, while others contributed for instance by spreading propaganda, recruiting and assuming leadership. Additionally, a focus group with probation officers and an interview were conducted. The results shed light on various sociodemographic variables showing that there was not one specific profile. Rather, the cohort appeared to be very diverse, being comprised of all genders, age groups and socioeconomic backgrounds. Furthermore, a considerable crime-terror nexus was found. Thirty percent of the cohort had had a criminal past before their engagement in violent extremism. A fifth of the cohort had a prison experience before the arrest for the terrorist offense. The criminal offenses of the cohort were typical for the general population of probation clients which backs the notion that many terrorist offenders belonged to the same population and had switched from "traditional" crime to terrorism. Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of patients´ age on perioperative complications in impacted third molar surgery and how established risk factors are affected by age. Materials and methods: The clinical findings, digital panoramic radiographs and perioperative data of 200 patients (554 impacted third molars) that had been subjected to tooth extraction, from July 2023 until July 2024, were analyzed. Perioperative complications (Inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) hypesthesia, oroantral communication (OAC), lingual nerve (LN) hypesthesia, postoperative bleeding, postoperative infection) as well as impaction patterns and risk factors (angulation type, bone coverage, depth- and risk scores) were analyzed by age (cut-off 30 years). Results: The population was divided into two groups by age (Group A = ≥ 30 years (n = 52) vs. Group B = < 30 years (n = 148)). Upper third molars showed significantly deeper bone coverage, higher depth scores, higher risk scores and different angulation types in patients aged < 30 years. Mandibular third molars showed significantly deeper bone coverage, higher depth scores, higher risk scores according and different angulation types in patients aged ≥ 30 years. However, IAN hypesthesia, LN hypesthesia, postoperative bleeding and postoperative infection did not show any significant differences regarding patients' age. Conclusion: The current findings suggest that age (cut-off 30 years) does not statistically correlate with a higher risk for postoperative complications in impacted third molar surgery in contrast to recent publications. Clinical relevance: In contrast to recent publications, the present study falsified a positive correlation between patients' age and the occurrence of postoperative complications in impacted third molar surgery. Summary: Introduction: Loss‐of‐control (LOC) eating, or the subjective experience of being unable to stop eating, is a hallmark feature of binge‐eating episodes, which are also characterized by consuming an unusually large amount of food. However, regardless of the size of eating episode, LOC‐eating may be a risk factor for adverse health outcomes. This systematic review and meta‐analysis comprehensively examine the relationship of LOC‐eating with cardiometabolic health components and inflammatory markers. Methods: Search procedures were conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) reporting guidelines in six electronic databases. Studies of adult or youth samples published in English from the year 2000 onward were included. Given heterogeneity in age groups and adjustment for body mass index across studies, these factors were included as meta‐regression moderators. Results: Fifty‐eight studies were identified through the literature search. Among individuals with (versus without) LOC‐eating, relative risk ratios provided evidence of a greater relative risk for metabolic syndrome, hypertension, and dyslipidemia; standardized mean differences also provided evidence of higher waist circumference and impaired levels of fasting plasma glucose, high‐density lipoprotein (HDL)‐cholesterol, and triglycerides, but not blood pressure. Age group did not impact cardiometabolic health components. Body mass index differences moderated the effect on waist circumference. A narrative review of inflammatory markers revealed mixed findings linking inflammatory markers to LOC‐eating. Discussion: Overall, evidence for the relationship between LOC‐eating and impaired cardiometabolic health underscores LOC‐eating as an important early intervention target for prevention of serious adverse health outcomes. Aim: To comprehensively examine the range of co‐morbidities among males and females with a diagnosis of obesity. Materials and Methods: This cross‐sectional retrospective study used US commercial and Medicare claims data from Merative MarketScan Research Databases to identify adults (age ≥ 18 years) with a diagnosis of obesity with continuous insurance coverage from 2018 to 2020. Co‐morbidities were tabulated based on coded diagnoses, and prevalences were calculated in males and females across age groups. Age‐adjusted odds ratios (ORs) determined differences in co‐morbidities between the sexes. Results: Of an eligible sample of 6.9 million, we identified 2 028 273 individuals with at least one obesity‐related International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification code. The proportions of males and females with obesity were 43.0% versus 57.0%. The most prevalent co‐morbidities among males and females were hypertension (62.8% vs. 52.2%), dyslipidaemia (63.3% vs. 50.3%) and depression and/or anxiety (D/A; 29.7% vs. 48.5%). The prevalence of D/A was high in the younger age group, but steadily decreased with age in both sexes; however, hypertension and dyslipidaemia continued to increase with age. The presence of diagnosis of hypertension and dyslipidaemia was 6‐8 years earlier in males than in females. Females had higher odds than males for osteoarthritis (OR 1.33), depression (OR 2.22) or osteoporosis (OR 7.10); all P <.0001. Conclusions: Males with obesity received a diagnosis of cardiovascular risk factors at an earlier age than females, which may have contributed to the higher prevalence of coronary heart disease. Background: Due to the rapid growth of the world´s oldest population, the number of older persons with stroke is expected to rise. Knowledge of stroke etiology is essential to offer personalized and equal health care across age groups. The present systematic review aimed to investigate the prevalence of etiological subtypes of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke in older compared to younger people. Methods: MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane, Epistemonikos, and Cinahl were systematically searched for studies regarding etiological classification in people ≥80 years compared to those <80 years with ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke. Results: Out of 28 441 identified articles, eight met the inclusion criteria. In total, 8223 individuals were included in meta-analyses, of whom 2997 were 80 years or older. We demonstrated a higher prevalence of cardioembolic stroke in people ≥80 years OR 1.68 (95% CI, 1.12-2.53). Small vessel disease was significantly less common in older people OR.64 (95% CI,.50-.81). Regarding large vessel disease, no statistically significant difference between the two groups was shown OR 1.05 (95% CI,.77-1.43). Conclusion: In people ≥80 years, cardioembolic stroke is more common, and small vessel disease less common compared to people <80 years. This research examines the factors influencing the adoption and utilization of Mobility as a Service (MaaS), particularly focusing on carsharing and micromobility. Our objective was to understand how policy, physical infrastructure, social interactions, and individual attributes shape the use of MaaS. To this end, we conducted a systematic literature review using an adapted socio-ecological model. Our methodology involved a comprehensive search in the Scopus database using keywords related to MaaS and socio-ecological aspects, which yielded 420 relevant articles. These articles were analyzed for their alignment with the socio-ecological model across the specific dimensions of Personal Attributes, Community Interactions, Physical and Infrastructural Aspects, and Governance and Policy, as well as their relevance to MaaS. Key findings indicate that political decisions, including cooperation with public transport, environmental zones, and monetary incentives, significantly impact MaaS adoption. The study highlights the importance of policy in implementing micromobility models. Additionally, physical factors like infrastructure, geographic considerations, and urban design are crucial. Social context elements such as age, gender, education, and income also play a significant role, with higher education and income levels, as well as younger age groups, being more likely to adopt MaaS. Individual factors, including personal preferences and ecological consciousness, are pivotal, with perceived economic benefits being a primary driver for carsharing adoption. In carpooling, beyond the expected impacts of financial incentives, we highlighted the critical role of social norms and peer influences, particularly how visible carpooling by peers can drive adoption rates--a key finding for designing targeted social marketing strategies. For micro-mobility, the crucial finding was that infrastructure adaptations (such as the integration of dedicated lanes) not only support usage but also significantly enhance user safety and satisfaction, suggesting that physical infrastructure investments must be at the forefront of urban planning for effective micromobility integration. In conclusion, this research underscores the complex interplay of policy, physical, social, and individual contexts in MaaS utilization. It advocates for a balanced, context-specific approach to promoting shared MaaS, addressing both user-specific needs and broader transportation policy objectives. As new mobility technologies become more widely used, they can transform the way that people travel. Among these technologies are autonomous vehicles (AVs) and micromobility such as bike-sharing and scooters. While the penetration and utilization of these mobility technologies have been extensively studied, little is known about their interaction and association between various age groups. Further, studies have focused on whether respondents would want AVs based upon their age rather than whether they would actually use them. The widespread adoption and use of self-driving vehicles is contingent upon user acceptance and utilization. Therefore, this study evaluated the association between different mobility options for various age groups using text network analysis (TNA) and Bayesian networks (BNs). This study used a data set collected from a survey conducted in Gilbert, Arizona, in 2019. The TNA results facilitated the extraction of additional features that could not be retrieved from the traditional data. The BN results revealed that micromobility devices are associated with higher likelihoods of wanting AVs and using AVs across all age groups, except for young adults who want dockless bikes and older adults who will use docked bikes. Furthermore, for all age groups, electric vehicles are associated with higher likelihoods of wanting AVs and using AVs. Regarding gender, young and middle-aged adult males were more likely to want AVs than their female counterparts. In addition, young and older adult males were more likely to use AVs than females. After combining the variables, the maximum probabilities of wanting AVs and using AVs in the city were 87% and 100% for young adults, 95% and 97% for middle-aged adults, and 59% and 93% for older adults, respectively. Human adenoviruses are the causative agents of 5–7% of viral respiratory infections, mainly caused by species B and C. They can infect all age groups, but children are usually at high risk of infections. Adenovirus epidemiology is well documented in East-Asian countries but little is known about adenovirus circulation in Europe in recent years. This multicentre retrospective study aimed to investigate the circulation and molecular epidemiology of hAdVs. This surveillance collected a total of 54463 respiratory specimens between January 1, 2022 and June 20, 2023 were tested for the presence of respiratory viruses. Our results showed that adenovirus was detected in 6.6 % of all cases of acute respiratory infection included in the study and the median age of positive patients was 3 years, with male children in 1–2 years age group being the most affected. 43.5 % of adenovirus cases were co-infected with at least one other respiratory virus, and rhinovirus was co-detected in 54 % of cases. In cases of fires, disasters, accidents and catastrophes, the state must guarantee the life, health, security of the population, material and cultural values of society. Fire safety and civil protection is the institution which, in addition to fire-fighting activities and fire control, carries out rescue activities in the outbreak of damage, emergency and post-disaster recovery activities, chemical, biological and radiation protection, preventive measures to reduce the risk of disasters, formation of voluntary formations, coordination, information and analysis and other activities. The purpose of this publication is to present the results of the report of the Regional Directorate of Fire Safety and Civil Protection in Plovdiv on the cases registered in 2019 in which the institution responded and provided first aid and assistance. Material and methods: Statistical, documentary and descriptive methods were used, and the report from the Regional Directorate of Fire Safety and Civil Protection in Plovdiv for the period 2019 was analyzed. The analysis was made according to the age group of the population, social status of the victims, time of day interval and according to the trauma received in different situations. Conclusion: The General Directorate of Fire Safety and Civil Protection is the main institution for responding not only to fires, but also to disasters of different origin (natural or anthropogenic). It is an institution for carrying out rescue and emergency recovery work after various disasters, large-scale preventive work to protect public health and a range of other activities concerning the life and health of the population. The rehabilitation of patients after lower extremity injuries is focused on creating conditions for active participation in daily life by influencing their motor, mental and social skills. The aim is to analyze the recovery process in patients after lower limb injuries with impaired locomotor activity, which determines their social functioning. A survey was conducted among patients with impaired locomotor activity, which included five groups of questions assessed on a four-point scale. The ability to locomote in the environment, carrying out activities of daily life, emotional state and their social functioning are explored. 37 patients aged 18 to 88, divided into four groups by age and gender were included in the survey on a voluntary basis. After rehabilitation courses, at the end of the observed period, a significant improvement was noticed in the ability to walk without the use of aids on flat terrain, on stairs and outside the home. A maximal functional recovery was observed for carrying out the activities of daily life related to self-care as a result of improving the ability to locomote in the environment. Questions related to communication in a family and close friendship environment for all groups of respondents showed higher values, both at baseline (1,3 – 2,25) and at the end of the follow-up (2,43 – 3). Patients of all groups experience the greatest difficulty when it is necessary to use public transport. As a result of the rehabilitation, walking without aids is restored and the state of anxiety is overcome almost to degree 2,5. Despite the fact that the rehabilitation process is slow and prolonged, the results give reason to assume that the efforts of the multidisciplinary team lead to overcoming the negative aspects in the social functioning of patients after lower limb injury. In the study the clinical profile of 168 children diagnosed with acute bronchiolitis in the First Pediatric Department of UMBAL Burgas AD is analyzed,. The minimum age being 1 month and the maximum age being 24 months. Patients were divided into four age groups. The duration of the infection of the upper respiratory tract before the development of broncho-obstructive syndrome, the days with a clinic of acute viral infection before the appearance of broncho-obstructive syndrome, the presence of a temperature above 38.5, tachypnea, rapid heart activity, dyspnea, cyanosis, as a symptom of decreased oxygenation, etc. Conclusions were made regarding the clinical profile of the patients and the complications of the disease. Introduction and Purpose Methods Results Conclusions The developmental eye movement (DEM) test is designed to assess saccadic eye movements and visual‐verbal automaticity in children. This study aimed to assess whether there is a need for independent DEM Hebrew norms and to compare DEM results for Hebrew‐speaking children with eight other language norms.The DEM test was administered to 224 Hebrew‐speaking children aged 6–13 years who met the inclusion criteria and read the numbers in Hebrew. Test C of the DEM was performed twice, once from right (R) to left (L) and once from L to R, in random order. Age group and language comparisons, including vertical and horizontal reading speeds, errors and horizontal/vertical (H/V) ratios in both directions were analysed.The participants were almost evenly distributed between the sexes (46.8% female). Statistically significant differences were found between age groups (6–9 and 10–13 years) for vertical and horizontal reading speeds and H/V ratios in both directions (p < 0.001). Older children, as compared to younger children, exhibited faster vertical and horizontal times, with fewer errors, as well as lower ratios (p < 0.001). No significant difference was noted between reading directions for horizontal time and H/V ratio within both age groups (6–9 year olds: p = 0.27 and p = 0.06; 10–13 year olds: p = 0.89 and p = 0.49, respectively). Comparison of DEM norms across languages showed significant differences, with post‐hoc analysis revealing specific language‐related variations. DEM results for Hebrew‐speaking children had similar outcomes to both original English and French values.This study compared DEM results of Hebrew‐speaking children and scores across nine languages. DEM test values for Hebrew‐speaking children aligned with norms from other languages, particularly the French and original English norms, with consistent ratio scores. Driven by the increasing use of social media by people seeking to reconstruct family histories and preserve historical, cultural, and societal legacy, genealogy-based online communities are experiencing a surge in popularity. This study explores how trauma-affected communities use online communities to reconstruct their identities and histories, demonstrating the resilience and adaptability of these groups in the digital age. Based on the theory of Knowledge Co-Creation, this paper presents a novel conceptual framework designed to categorize the content in such communities. This framework is composed of two axes. The first axis, ‘Time,’ reflects the evolving character of participants’ involvement, starting with an exploration of immediate family history and gradually expanding to encompass a broader interest in ancestral and communal history of the past. The second axis, ‘Space,’ explores the interplay between online interactions and offline activities. To demonstrate the applicability of this framework, the paper focuses on the case study of the WhatsApp community dedicated to collaborative research of the descendants of annihilated Jewish communities of the Upper Silesia region of southwestern Poland.This research contributes to the literature on digital genealogy and online communities by offering a structured approach to analyzing the dynamics of trauma-affected populations engaging in collaborative genealogical research. Objectives Methods Results Conclusions Seated voiding may be an attempt to obviate voiding dysfunction, improve physical stability during voiding, and prevent messy bathroom contamination. Therefore, we hypothesized that seated voiders had a higher prevalence of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), deteriorating health conditions, and a higher marriage rate than standing voiders.Of the participants from the 2023 Japan Community Health Survey conducted by the Japanese Continence Society, 2936 men (mean age: 53.6 years old) were divided into sitting and standing groups based on their posture when voiding at home. Characteristics of the two groups were compared, and factors associated with seated voiding stratified by age were investigated using multivariable logistic regression analysis.One‐thousand six‐hundred and sixty men (57%) voided in the sitting position at home, and the proportion of seated voiding decreased with age. On multivariable analysis, comorbidities other than benign prostatic hyperplasia were associated with the standing group aged 40–59, and storage symptoms were associated with the seated group aged 60 and older. Being married was significantly and consistently associated with seated voiding across all ages.Approximately 60% of Japanese men void in the sitting position at home. There are certain differences in the associations of LUTS and health conditions with voiding position by age, while seated voiding is consistently associated with marital status throughout all ages, which implies that sanitation matters. Air pollution in the interior of our homes is caused by diverse chemical, physical, and biological entities. This review comprehensively explores the current understanding of sources and health impacts of gaseous and particulate pollutants. Trend analysis of indoor air research worldwide revealed a quantum jump of 2.8 times in the number of publications during the last ten years. Indoor air pollutants are innumerable, but only a few are widely prevalent in most households. The qualitative complexity of pollutants translates to different health problems, including respiratory diseases, cardiovascular conditions, cancer, and deaths. There exist wide-scale disparities in the negative impacts among different economic strata, genders, and age groups; children and elderly populations are more vulnerable. In developing countries, pollutants primarily arise from traditional sources, whereas in developed countries, pollutants from non-conventional sources are comparatively significant. Female BRCA1/2 pathogenic variant (PV) carriers face substantial risks for breast and ovarian cancer. Evidence-based decision aids (DAs) can facilitate these women in their decision-making process on an individually suitable preventive strategy. However, there is a gap in previous literature exploring whether DA effectiveness varies according to women's age. This is an exploratory subanalysis with a descriptive approach from a randomised controlled study assessing the effectiveness of a German decision aid (DA) for women with BRCA1/2 PVs compared to no DA use. From the original sample, women aged 18–40 years and >40 years and the intervention and control groups (IG, CG) within each of the age groups were compared regarding decisional conflict (using the Decisional Conflict Scale DCS) and knowledge at baseline and after DA use three and six months post study inclusion. The subanalysis involved 236 women aged 18–40 and 181 women aged >40 years. At baseline, both age groups differed significantly in all socio-demographic variables, except BRCA1/2 PV distributions. The younger age group displayed higher scores in the DCS subscale informed (p =.002) and higher knowledge (p =.010). Among the 18-40-year-olds, DA use (versus no DA) led to improvements in the DCS subscale informed at three (p =.025) and six months (p =.000). In the >40-year-olds, DA use (versus no DA) led to improvements in the DCS subscales informed (p =.028), values clarity (p =.028) and support (p =.030) and increased knowledge at three months (p =.048). These results indicate that both age groups benefited from DA use, but the older ones did so to a greater extent. Background: Hepatitis B remains a significant global health concern with widespread communicability. Nevertheless, data on its burden and trends in children and adolescents were limited. We aim to evaluate the global, regional, and national trends of total burden related to hepatitis B in children and adolescents aged 0–19 years from 1990 to 2021. Methods: The age-standardized incidence, prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were calculated by the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study from 1990 to 2021. These indicators were stratified by sex, age, socio-demographic index (SDI), and disease stage. We calculated the correlation between them and SDI. The temporal trends were examined using the annual average percentage change (AAPC) and joinpoint regression. Results: The global age-standardized incidence of hepatitis B in children and adolescents decreased from 1385.20 per 100,000 population in 1990 to 418.68 per 100,000 population in 2021, with an AAPC of -3.76%. Similarly, age-standardized DALYs decreased from 70.78 per 100,000 population to 36.31 per 100,000 population, with an AAPC of -2.13%. The age-standardized prevalence (AAPC − 3.53%) and mortality (AAPC − 2.09%) of hepatitis B also decreased significantly. From 1990 to 2021, the age-standardized incidence and prevalence among males exhibited a higher trend compared to females, although both declined over time. These two indicators also decreased across all age subgroups, with consistently higher rates observed in the 15–19 age group compared to other age groups. The burden of hepatitis B demonstrated a notable reduction in countries with high-middle SDI, while it was highest in countries with low SDI. In 2021, Central sub-Saharan Africa and West sub-Saharan Africa reported the highest age-standardized incidence. For age-standardized DALYs, South Asia was the only region to experience an increase (AAPC 1.09%), while East Asia showed the largest decline (AAPC − 7.58%). Alcohol and drug use remained important risk factors for DALYs among people aged 15–19 years. Furthermore, the impact of drug use on disease burden was increasing, particularly in high-SDI countries. Background: The impact of mode of delivery in chorioamnionitis on neonatal outcomes is unclear. This retrospective cohort study compares the rate of early onset neonatal sepsis between vaginal delivery and cesarean section. Methods: Singleton pregnancies at greater than 24 + 0 weeks gestation with live birth and clinically-diagnosed chorioamnionitis from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021 were included. Cases with multiple gestations, terminations or histological chorioamnionitis alone were excluded. Rates of early onset neonatal sepsis, select secondary neonatal outcomes and a composite outcome of maternal infectious morbidity were compared using propensity score weighting. Subgroup analysis was done by indication for cesarean section. Results: After chart review, 378 cases were included with 197 delivering vaginally and 181 delivering via cesarean section. The groups differed on age, parity, hypertension, renal disease, gestational age, corticosteroid use, magnesium sulfate use, presence of meconium and percentage meeting Gibbs criteria before propensity score weighting. Rate of early onset neonatal sepsis was greater in the cesarean section group (13.8% versus 3.1%, adjusted risk difference 8.3% [3.5–13.1], p < 0.001). Secondary neonatal outcomes were similar between groups. When compared by indication, the rate of early onset neonatal sepsis was greater in the cesarean section for abnormal fetal surveillance group compared to vaginal delivery but not in the cesarean section for other reasons group. Adjusted rates of secondary neonatal outcomes did not differ between groups. The rate of maternal infectious morbidity was greater with cesarean section. Background: Soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections can cause a significant disease burden. It is estimated that 1.5 billion people worldwide are infected with STHs, primarily in tropical and subtropical regions. This study aimed to assess the distribution of the global burden and trend of STH infections from 1990 to 2021. Methods: We retrieved data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 on the age-standardized rates (ASRs) of prevalence and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) of STH infections for all age groups in 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2021. The ASRs of prevalence and DALYs by age, gender, and socio-demographic index (SDI) were calculated to quantify the spatial distribution and temporal trend. Spearman correlation analysis was used to examine the relationship between ASR and SDI. Results: In 2021, there were an estimated 642.72 million cases and 1.38 million DALYs caused by STH infections worldwide. The age-standardized prevalence rate (ASPR) of STH infections was 8429.89 [95% uncertainty interval (UI): 7697.23, 9362.18 ] per 100,000 population globally. The ASPR of STH infections varied across 21 geographic regions in 2021, being mainly prevalent in most African and Latin American locations. The prevalence was higher in the groups of 5–19 years, especially the group of 5–9 years with the ASPR of 16,263 (95% UI: 14,877.06, 18,003.49) and ASR of DALYs of 40.69 (95% UI: 25.98, 60.91) per 100,000. The ASPR of STH infections showed an obvious decreasing trend worldwide (estimated annual percent change = − 4.03, 95% confidence interval: − 4.13, − 3.93) with variations in different species infections during the study years. At the regional level, the ASR of STH infections prevalence (r = − 0.8807, P < 0.0001) and DALYs (r = − 0.9069, P < 0.0001) were negatively correlated with SDI. Conclusions: STH infections remain a public health problem in 2021, particularly in regions such as the middle parts of Africa and Americas, and in the 5–19 age populations. The reduction in the rate of prevalence and the loss of DALYs are negatively correlated with the increase in SDI. Enhancing political commitment, providing accurate preventive chemotherapy, and advancing techniques for surveillance and mapping systems are essential to achieve the target of ending STH infections as a public health problem by 2030. Objective: Pharmaceutical health literacy intervention (PHLI) plays a crucial role in influencing patients' medical decision-making, particularly concerning medication use. However, PHLI has not been widely implemented in China. This study aims to develop a novel PHLI model within a psychiatric hospital setting and evaluate its effectiveness. Methods: A PHLI model encompassing four modes—covering inpatients, outpatients, Internet+ and community—was established at The Affiliated Mental Health Center of Jiangnan University. The model's operation was detailed, and its performance data from 2022 and 2023 were evaluated. Results: In 2022 and 2023, a total of 636 PHLI cases were reported. Of these, 386 cases (60.69%) were identified through the inpatient mode. The proportion of PHLI delivered via inpatient and Internet information subscription modes gradually increased, while interventions through other methods decreased. The age group of 18–30 accounted for 21.97% of cases, with 116 instances reported. Various types of PHLI were provided, including adverse reactions (18.87%), dosage and administration (11.64%), and therapeutic drug monitoring (9.43%). In addition, intervention strategies primarily focused on adverse reaction identification (10.22%), interpretation of pharmaceutical reports (7.23%), and routine examination reminders (6.45%). Conclusion: The PHLI model developed at our hospital offers an effective approach to health literacy intervention and represents an innovation advancement in pharmaceutical health literacy management. ABSTRACT Objective Methods Results Conclusions To compare the precision of biparietal diameter (BPD) and crown–rump length (CRL) as predictors of gestational age in the human fetus in the late first and early second trimesters, using a population‐based approach.We constructed term and gestational‐age prediction curves for first‐trimester dating, based on 11 041 pregnancies with 12 260 measurements of CRL and/or BPD from a population‐based Norwegian clinical database. We used a population‐based approach with local linear quantile regression, combined with a time‐to‐event strategy that compensates for induced births. Term prediction precision was assessed by estimating and comparing the prediction residual curves using a time‐to‐event analysis. Individual differences in gestational‐age predictions from CRL and BPD were assessed using measurements performed on the same fetus on the same day. A sensitivity analysis was performed to evaluate the effect of not distinguishing between non‐spontaneous and spontaneous births.CRL and BPD provided almost identical term prediction precision judged from the residual distribution. In about 51% of examinations, the difference in predicted gestational age was 1 day or less; 24% of examinations had a difference of 2 days, 14% had a difference of 3 days, 7% had a difference of 4 days and only 5% of all examinations had a difference of 5 days or more. Incorrectly removing induced births from the analysis, or treating them as spontaneous, would cause a substantial systematic prediction bias of about 2 days.Based on population data, using comparisons at an individual level, our study found that BPD is as precise as CRL when used for first‐trimester dating. Children had more severe disease than adults (median Derkay score 10 vs. 5). Microdebrider was the most common surgical intervention, particularly in children (86% of children, 49% of adults). Additionally, lasers (CO2, KTP and pulsed dye) were used in 34% of adults. Gardasil was the most common adjuvant therapy (21 children, 23 adults). Procedural complications were rare (10.8% children, 5.9% adults). Five patients developed laryngeal malignancy; there were six deaths during follow‐up period.This is the largest UK RRP study to date. RRP is more aggressive in children than adults, and treatment choice differs between age groups. Overall, management was safe with minimal complications reported, and generally effective in maintaining a safe airway. Background: Sierra Leone faces a significant challenge in addressing HIV/AIDS, particularly among adolescent girls and young women. This age group is considered highly vulnerable due to biological factors and social inequalities. Understanding the prevalence of HIV testing in this demographic is crucial for designing effective prevention and treatment strategies. This study investigated the spatial distribution of HIV testing and its associated factors among adolescent girls and young women in Sierra Leone. Methods: Data from the 2019 Sierra Leone Demographic and Health Survey was used for the study. The sample comprised 6,062 adolescent girls and young women between the ages of 15 and 24. Spatial autocorrelation and Moran's I statistic were employed to analyze the spatial distribution of HIV testing. An analysis utilising mixed-effect multilevel binary logistic regression was performed to determine the factors associated with HIV testing. The findings were presented as adjusted odds ratios (aOR) and a 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: The national prevalence of HIV testing among adolescents and young women in Sierra Leone was 42.1% [40.3,43.9]. Kailahun, Kambia, Tonkolil, some parts of the Western rural area, and Bonthe districts were found to be statistically significant hotspot for HIV testing. Whereas, Karene, Falaba, Bo, kenema, and some parts of Pujuhun were statistically cold spot districts. Adolescent girls and young women aged 20–24 [aOR = 1.63, 95% CI = 1.29, 2.07] had higher odds of HIV testing than those aged 15–19. Those with secondary/higher education [aOR = 1.87, 95% CI = 1.40, 2.51] had higher odds of HIV testing than those with no education. The odds of HIV testing was higher among adolescent girls and young women who use the Internet [aOR = 1.75, 95% CI = 1.32, 2.33] than those who did not use internet. Adolescent girls and young women with one [aOR = 16.56, 95% CI = 12.31, 22.29] and two or more parity [aOR = 16.37, 95% CI = 10.86, 24.68] had higher odds of HIV testing than those with no parity. The likelihood of HIV testing was higher among adolescent girls and young women who had sex below 18 [aOR = 4.54, 95% CI = 3.25, 6.34] and those who had sex at 18+ [aOR = 5.70, 95% CI = 3.84, 8.45] compared to those who had never had sex. Adolescent girls and young women who visited health facilities in the past 12 months [aOR = 1.82, 95% CI = 1.46, 2.26] had higher odds of HIV testing than those who did not. Conclusion: Despite some positive trends, HIV testing rates among adolescent girls and young women in Sierra Leone remain moderate. Spatial autocorrelation analysis consistently revealed hotspots and cold spots for HIV testing, with Kailahun, Kambia, Tonkolil, some parts of the Western rural area, and Bonthe districts remaining persistent hotspots. Age, education, internet use, sexual history, parity, and healthcare access are significant factors influencing testing behaviour. To improve testing rates, the government and policymakers should prioritize educational campaigns, expand internet access, integrate HIV testing into routine healthcare, and address stigma associated with HIV. Background: Over the past four years, the COVID-19 pandemic has exerted a profound impact on public health, including on mortality trends. This study investigates mortality patterns in Belgium by examining all-cause mortality, excess mortality, and cause-specific mortality. Methods: We retrieved all-cause mortality data from January 1, 2009, to December 31, 2022, stratified by age group and sex. A linear mixed model, informed by all-cause mortality from 2009 to 2019, was used to predict non-pandemic all-cause mortality rates in 2020–2022 and estimate excess mortality. Further, we also analyzed trends in cause-specific and premature mortality. Results: Different all-cause mortality patterns could be observed between the younger (<45 years) and older age groups. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was particularly evident among older age groups. The highest excess mortality occurred in 2020, while a reversal in this trend was evident in 2022. We observed a notable effect of COVID-19 on cause-specific and premature mortality patterns over the three-year period. Conclusions: Despite a consistent decline in COVID-19 reported mortality over this three-year period, it remains imperative to meticulously monitor mortality trends in the years ahead. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the critical importance of vaccination in controlling infectious diseases. While previous research has identified social cohesion as a potential facilitator of health behaviors, empirical studies exploring its direct impact on COVID-19 vaccination rates, especially across different age groups, remain limited. This cross-sectional study utilized data from the 2021 Korean Community Health Survey, a nationally representative survey conducted in South Korea. The analysis focused on adults aged 50 and older, categorizing them into two age groups (50–64 and ≥65). We investigated the association between perceived neighborhood social cohesion and COVID-19 vaccination status, controlling for socio-economic status, health behaviors, and concerns related to COVID-19. Statistical analysis was conducted using complex sample multiple logistic regression to adjust for potential confounders. The study included 135,352 participants, with an analysis showing that in the age group ≥65, higher levels of perceived neighborhood social cohesion were significantly associated with increased vaccination uptake (aOR for trust between neighbors: 1.200, 95% CI: 1.058–1.362; aOR for mutual assistance among neighbors: 1.491, 95% CI: 1.312–1.695). Interestingly, these associations were not significant in the 50–64 age group. Additionally, satisfaction with healthcare services was associated with higher vaccination uptake in both age groups (aOR: 1.106, 95% CI: 1.004–1.219 for 50–64; aOR: 1.306, 95% CI: 1.160–1.471 for ≥65). Our findings suggest that perceived neighborhood social cohesion plays a crucial role in influencing COVID-19 vaccination uptake among older adults, particularly those aged 65 and above. These results indicate that health policies aimed at enhancing social cohesion may effectively improve vaccination rates, especially among the elderly. Background: Dance is a promising health resource for older adults, but empirical evidence remains inconsistent. The lack of synthesised evidence regarding program design, dose, and delivery limits understanding of factors influencing participation and health outcomes. This scoping review aimed to map the scope, range, and effectiveness of dance programs for older people, and identify gaps and opportunities for future research and practice. Methods: Searches across five databases (September 2023) identified 148 studies evaluating 116 dance programs (≥4 weeks) for older adults (≥55 years, N = 8060), Dance interventions delivered to clinical groups were excluded. Intervention design and delivery were charted against the TIDieR reporting checklist. Program outcomes including adherence, safety, and positive tests were charted into established taxonomies. Results: Demographic information, program details, and implementation were often insufficiently reported. Participant groups differed by age range, with underserved communities underrepresented. Programs varied extensively in key factors including dose, prospective 'active ingredients', delivery approach, facilitator expertise, and class size. While dance was physically safe, adherence rates in older adults are comparable to other community exercise programs. Less than 40% of health assessments showed positive change, with more consistent benefits to physical endurance, strength, and function, moderate impacts on psychosocial health, and limited benefits to cognitive and brain health, and falls and falls risk. Conclusion: Dance is a meaningful, safe, adaptable, and low-cost health resource for older adults. Key opportunities for advancing research include improved access for underserved groups, program suitability assessments, strategies to support adherence and engagement including theory-informed approaches, and incorporation of participant and practitioner insights. Identification of key 'active ingredients' and dance program factors may improve understanding of causal pathways and mechanisms to optimise engagement and health impacts. Stronger reporting practices will facilitate comparisons across studies and more robust evidence synthesis. Aims Methods and results Conclusion To estimate the global burden of myocarditis in the general population from 1990 to 2021.Data on myocarditis were retrieved from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021. Incidence, deaths, and disability‐adjusted life years (DALYs), along with their age‐standardized rates (ASRs) per 100 000 population, were used to measure the burden of myocarditis. Global, regional, and national analyses were performed for the period between 1990 and 2021. Further sub‐analyses were conducted based on age group, sex, and sociodemographic index (SDI). In 2021, there were 1.3 million (95% uncertainty interval [UI]: 1.1 to 1.6) incident cases, 31.7 thousand (95% UI: 25.5 to 37.1) deaths, and 96.3 thousand (95% UI: 79.6 to 114.8) DALY cases globally. The ASRs of incidence, death, and DALYs significantly decreased from 1990 to 2021, with percentage changes of −3.9% (95% UI: −4.7% to −2.9%), −28.2% (95% UI: −42.2% to −12.5%), and −37.8% (95% UI: −50.5% to −24.3%), respectively. The global burden of myocarditis was higher in males, children, and the elderly. Additionally, the burden of myocarditis varied widely across different SDI regions, with high SDI regions having the highest ASR of incidence, and high‐middle SDI regions having the highest ASRs of deaths and DALYs.Although the ASRs of incidence, deaths, and DALYs significantly decreased from 1990 to 2021, the global number of incidences, deaths, and DALYs increased substantially. The relative age effects (RAEs) and biological maturation are two distinct factors that have been identified to affect talent identification and selection. Previous research has suggested that talent selection should include sport-specific technical tasks instead of body size and/or physical test measurements, assuming that the technical tasks are less influenced by variations in maturation. Our purpose was to examine the prevalence of RAEs and to assess biological maturity, body size, and body composition within a single talent selection program for female handball players. Team coaches' recommendations, handball-specific drills, and in-game performance were the selection criteria. Birth distribution of all U14 female handball players were analysed (N = 3198) grouped in two-year age cohort. Measurements of body size, body composition (InBody 720), and bone age were performed in all players who were selected to participate in the selection program (n = 264) (mean±sd age: 13.1±0.6 years) and in a sample of not-selected players (n = 266) (mean±sd age: 13.2±0.6 years). Players were grouped in quarter-year intervals based on their date of birth. Chi-square was used to examine quartile distributions, differences between quartiles were tested with one-way analysis of variance, whereas differences between the selected and not-selected groups were examined with independent sample t-test (Cohen d effect size). Binary logistic regression was used to determine the effects of the predictors on the selection. In terms of all registered players, there was no difference in birth distribution. RAEs appeared at the first selection stage and were evident at all following stages. Quartiles differed only between the first and the last quartiles in body size and muscle mass. Only bone age differed between consecutive quartile or semi-year groups. Body size, body composition, and maturity had a significant, but of moderate power, effect on the selection. Larger body height increased the likelihood of selection by about 12%, larger muscle mass by 12% to 25%, larger bone age by 350–400%, while larger percent body fat decreased selection chances by 7%. The sport-specific criteria could not eliminate the prevalence of the RAEs. Relative age was connected to bone age, but not convincingly to body size and muscle mass. Although bone age had the largest effect on the selection, this was not associated with larger body size or muscle mass. Early maturation increased selection chances mainly during the coaches' subjective evaluation, but not convincingly when sport-specific tasks were applied. Given that differences were mostly evident between players of more than 1.5-year variation in their chronological age, one-year age cohorts within talent selection or the rotation of the cut-off dates of the bi-annual age grouping could be a promising strategy while also including maturation status and relative age in performance evaluations. Background Method Results Conclusions Rett syndrome (RTT), a developmental disorder primarily affecting girls and linked to methyl‐CpG binding protein‐2 (MECP2) gene mutations, presents musculoskeletal abnormalities with varying prevalence across studies and age groups. Our aim was to delineate the prevalence of orthopaedic conditions in individuals with RTT.Three databases were searched and independently screened by two reviewers to retrieve observational studies published after 2000 that recruited 10 or more patients diagnosed with RTT and reported the prevalence of any orthopaedic conditions (scoliosis, hip displacement, knee problems or foot deformities). A random‐effects meta‐analysis was performed to determine the pooled prevalence based on study weight.Of 867 screened studies, 21 studies involving 9997 girls with RTT (mean age 14.1 years; range, 3–38.5) met the inclusion criteria. The pooled prevalence of scoliosis was 64.5% [95% confidence interval (CI) 55.4–73.6%; I2 = 99%; P < 0.01], of hip displacement was 29.6% (95% CI 8.9–50.2%; I2 = 97%; P < 0.01) and of foot deformities was 53% (95% CI 17.5–89.2%; I2 = 98%; P < 0.01). Knee problems were reported in only one study. Scoliosis prevalence increased in studies with a high percentage of genetic testing and MECP2 positivity [69.1% (95% CI 58.9–79.2%; I2 = 99%; P < 0.01)], those with a mean age over 13 years [73% (95% CI 59.1–87%; I2 = 100%; P < 0.01)], and studies combining both variables [80.13% (95% CI 70.8–89.4%; I2 = 81%; P < 0.01)].This meta‐analysis found that approximately two in three girls with RTT develop scoliosis, one in two exhibit foot deformities and one in three experience hip displacement. These findings enhance our understanding of the prevalence of orthopaedic conditions in RTT, which can guide the establishment of surveillance protocols, clinical guidelines and management strategies tailored to the needs of RTT patients.
