We here present the normal dynamics technique, which recasts the Newton's equations of motion in terms of phonon normal modes by exploiting a proper sampling of the reciprocal space. After introducing the theoretical background, we discuss how the reciprocal space sampling enables us to (i) obtain a computational speedup by selecting which and how many wave vectors of the Brillouin zone will be considered and (ii) account for distortions realized across large atomic distances without the use of large simulation cells. We implemented the approach into an open-source code, which we used to present three case studies: in the first one, we elucidate the general strategy for the sampling of the reciprocal space; in the second one, we illustrate the potential of the approach by studying the stabilization effect of temperature in α-uranium; and in the last one, we investigate the characterization of Raman spectra at different temperatures in MoS2/MX2 transition metal dichalcogenide heterostructures. In this work, we present an experimental study of the primary and secondary relaxations of the semi-crystalline polymer polyethylene naphthalate by modulated differential scanning calorimetry, Thermally Stimulated Depolarization Currents (TSDCs), and Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy (BDS) and how they are affected by physical aging. Three dipolar relaxation modes can be observed: from slowest to fastest: the primary α relaxation, which vitrifies at the glass transition temperature, Tgα, and two secondary relaxations, named β* and β. Modulated differential scanning calorimetry results show how the secondary β* relaxation also vitrifies, giving rise to an additional glass transition at Tgβ* < Tgα. In fact, the α and β* relaxations can be considered as part of a very broad and distributed relaxation. Its main part is the primary α relaxation with a shoulder at the high-frequency region corresponding to a complex secondary β* relaxation. BDS results about β* can be modeled by a main contribution (β3*) and two additional ones (β1* and β2*) with a weaker dielectric strength. TSDC results show that each single mode of the relaxation has its own glass transition temperature and they are compatible with the structure inferred by BDS. This scenario gives rise to an extended glass transition dually centered in the Tgβ* ∼ 305 K and Tgα ∼ 387 K temperatures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We study, through molecular dynamics simulations, three aqueous solutions with one lysozyme protein and three different concentrations of trehalose and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). We analyze the structural and dynamical properties of the protein hydration water upon cooling. We find that trehalose plays a major role in modifying the structure of the network of HBs between water molecules in the hydration layer of the protein. The dynamics of hydration water presents, in addition to the α-relaxation, typical of glass formers, a slower long-time relaxation process, which greatly slows down the dynamics of water, particularly in the systems with trehalose, where it becomes dominant at low temperatures. In all the solutions, we observe, from the behavior of the α-relaxation times, a shift of the Mode Coupling Theory crossover temperature and the fragile-to-strong crossover temperature toward higher values with respect to bulk water. We also observe a strong-to-strong crossover from the temperature behavior of the long-relaxation times. In the aqueous solution with only DMSO, the transition shifts to a lower temperature than in the case with only lysozyme reported in the literature. We observe that the addition of trehalose to the mixture has the opposite effect of restoring the original location of the strong-to-strong crossover. In all the solutions analyzed in this work, the observed temperature of the protein dynamical transition is slightly shifted at lower temperatures than that of the strong-to-strong crossover, but their relative order is the same, showing a correlation between the motion of the protein and that of the hydration water. The main challenge for solar cell devices is harvesting photons beyond the visible by reaching the red-edge (650–780 nm). Dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) devices combine the optical absorption and the charge separation processes by the association of a sensitizer as a light-absorbing material (dye molecules, whose absorption can be tuned and designed) with a wide band gap nanostructured semiconductor. Conformational and environmental effects (i.e., solvent, pH) can drastically influence the photophysical properties of molecular dyes. This study proposes a combined experimental and computational approach for the comprehensive investigation of the electronic and vibrational properties of a unique class of organic dye compounds belonging to the family of red-absorbing dyes, known as squaraines. Our focus lies on elucidating the intricate interplay between the molecular structure, vibrational dynamics, and optical properties of squaraines using state-of-the-art density functional theory calculations and spectroscopic techniques. Through systematic vibrational and optical analyses, we show that (i) the main absorption peak in the visible range is influenced by the conformational and protonation equilibria, (ii) the solvent polarity tunes the position of the UV–vis absorption, and (iii) the vibrational spectroscopy techniques (infrared and Raman) can be used as informative tools to distinguish between different conformations and protonation states. ABSTRACT The study of consciousness is considered by many one of the most difficult contemporary scientific endeavors and confronts several methodological and theoretical challenges. A central issue that makes the study of consciousness so challenging is that, while the rest of science is concerned with problems that can be verified from a “third person” view (i.e., objectively), the study of consciousness deals with the phenomenon of subjective experience, only accessible from a “first person” view. In the present article, we review early (starting during the late 19th century) and later efforts on measuring consciousness and its absence, focusing on the two main approaches used by researchers within the field: objective (i.e., performance based) and subjective (i.e., report based) measures of awareness. In addition, we compare the advantages and disadvantages of both types of awareness measures, evaluate them according to different methodological considerations, and discuss, among other issues, the possibility of comparing them by transforming them to a common sensitivity measure (d′). Finally, we explore several new approaches—such as Bayesian models to support the absence of awareness or new machine‐learning based decoding models—as well as future challenges—such as measuring the qualia, the qualitative contents of awareness—in consciousness research. ABSTRACT Changes in climate in the South Atlantic region and adjacent regions have been described in numerous works using projections from global climate models from CMIP5 and CMIP6. This paper presents an evaluation of the ability of these models to reproduce the atmospheric circulation patterns (weather types) and their seasonal and inter‐annual variability. The analyses are performed based on the probability of occurrence of weather types in the historical period and in future projections. The scatter index and the relative entropy are the statistical parameters used to evaluate the models' performance in the historical period. Future projections consist of RCP2.6, 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios for the CMIP5 models and the SSP126, 245, 370 and 585 scenarios for the CMIP6 and are assessed at different time intervals: short term (2015–2039), mid‐term (2040–2069) and long term (2070–2100). The performance of projections is measured by analysing their consistency, that is, based on the similarity between projections of the same scenario in different models. The results show that the reproduction of the probability of occurrence of historical weather types and their seasonal and interannual variability was better performed by ACCESS1‐0, HadGEM2‐ES, HadGEM2‐CC, CMCC‐CM and MPI‐ESM‐P when assessing the models from CMIP5, and by HadGEM3‐GC31‐MM, ACCESS‐ESM1‐5, ACCESS‐ CM2 and MRI‐ESM‐P when assessing the models from CMIP6. As for future projections, only the BESM‐AO2‐5, GFDL‐ESM4 and HadGEM3‐GC31‐MM models showed inconsistency in one or more scenarios. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The western capercaillie Tetrao urogallus, hereafter capercaillie, is the largest galliform bird present in the boreal and montane forests of the Western Palearctic. Precise and accurate methods for estimating the number of individuals and/or their densities are crucial for the proper management of its free‐ranging populations. However, obtaining reliable estimates of the abundance of populations of wild species and, particularly, of birds is not a simple task. In the case of lek‐mating birds such as capercaillie, surveys are traditionally based on lek counts, that is, counts of calling males present in their mating areas: the leks. This study was carried out on the Pyrenees at six capercaillie leks where two different lek counting approaches were performed: hide‐based and walk‐based. The results were compared with those obtained from an estimate of minimum population size (MPE) derived from genotyping all faeces samples found in the lek area, and with a population size estimate derived from a genetic mark‐recapture model (N^o) of each capercaillie lek. The results of N^o were used to estimate the detection rate (D) of both lek count approaches. Our results show that traditional lek counts do not detect all male capercaillies since the detection rate was 0.34 (95% CI: 0.26–0.43) for hide‐ and 0.56 (95% CI: 0.43–0.68) for walk‐based lek counts. Our results suggest that the walk‐based lek counts were more efficient than the hide‐based ones, providing more accurate results compared to the N^o estimate. The combination of non‐invasive sampling with genetic mark‐recapture model was found to be the most reliable method for obtaining the N^o of leks given that traditional lek counts underestimate the number of capercaillie and, furthermore, can cause disturbance to the species at these sites. Background Objectives Search Strategy Selection Criteria Data Collection and Analysis Main Results and Conclusions Prostaglandins (PGs) have emerged as key drugs in second trimester medical abortion (STMA) and are currently a cornerstone in obstetric practice. Nevertheless, the application of PGs, integral to labor and abortion procedures, is not risk‐free, and has been associated with several complications, particularly maternal fever and uterine rupture (UR).The main outcome of the present systematic review was to assess the safety of PGs use in STMA, particularly in scarred uterus (SC).The review adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) guideline. We performed a comprehensive systematic review by searching multiple databases, including MEDLINE, EMBASE, Global Health, The Cochrane Library, Health Technology Assessment Database, and the research registers of Web of Science during the years 1990–2022.Only articles regarding cases of UR occurred after the use of PGs for STMA were included in the article. We excluded papers regarding UR during first trimester abortion induction of labor or pregnancy or unrelated to PGs use for STMA. Risk of bias was assessed employing a modified version of the “Newcastle‐Ottawa Scale” (NOS).A total of 178 studies were initially identified as potentially meeting the criteria for inclusion in the review. After full text evaluation, 110 other articles were excluded and 67 studies that suited the inclusion criteria were included. A total of 19 of the included studies were judged to have a high risk of bias. Given the heterogeneous nature of the findings, we opted for a narrative synthesis of the results.PGs appear to be an effective pharmacologic tool for STMA; however, their use is not entirely risk‐free. STMA requires well‐equipped obstetric centers with skilled clinicians and surgeons prepared for emergencies. Ultrasonographic scans should be routinely performed during STMA management, since a UR can also be silent during the induction of labor. Intrapartum transabdominal, transperineal, and transvaginal ultrasound may have the diagnostic potential to early recognize this obstetric emergency, to facilitate rapid medical and surgical treatment, improving the outcome. Despite novel therapeutic strategies, advanced-stage prostate cancer (PCa) remains highly lethal, pointing out the urgent need for effective therapeutic strategies. While dysregulation of the splicing process is considered a cancer hallmark, the role of certain splicing factors remains unknown in PCa. This study focuses on characterizing the levels and role of SRSF6 in this disease. Comprehensive analyses of SRSF6 alterations (copy number/mRNA/protein) were conducted across eight well-characterized PCa cohorts and the Hi-MYC transgenic model. SRSF6 was up-regulated in PCa samples, correlating with adverse clinical parameters. Functional assays, both in vitro (cell proliferation, migration, colony, and tumorsphere formation) and in vivo (xenograft tumors), demonstrated the impact of SRSF6 modulation on critical cancer hallmarks. Mechanistically, SRSF6 regulates the splicing pattern of the histone-chaperone HIRA, consequently affecting the activity of H3.3 in PCa and breast cancer cell models and disrupting pivotal oncogenic pathways (AR and E2F) in PCa cells. Classifying logo images is a challenging task as they contain elements such as text or shapes that can represent anything from known objects to abstract shapes. While the current state of the art for logo classification addresses the problem as a multi‐class task focusing on a single characteristic, logos can have several simultaneous labels, such as different colours. This work proposes a method that allows visually similar logos to be classified and searched from a set of data according to their shape, colour, commercial sector, semantics, general characteristics, or a combination of features selected by the user. Unlike previous approaches, the proposal employs a series of multi‐label deep neural networks specialized in specific attributes and combines the obtained features to perform the similarity search. To delve into the classification system, different existing logo topologies are compared and some of their problems are analysed, such as the incomplete labelling that trademark registration databases usually contain. The proposal is evaluated considering 76,000 logos (seven times more than previous approaches) from the European Union Trademarks dataset, which is organized hierarchically using the Vienna ontology. Overall, experimentation attains reliable quantitative and qualitative results, reducing the normalized average rank error of the state‐of‐the‐art from 0.040 to 0.018 for the Trademark Image Retrieval task. Finally, given that the semantics of logos can often be subjective, graphic design students and professionals were surveyed. Results show that the proposed methodology provides better labelling than a human expert operator, improving the label ranking average precision from 0.53 to 0.68. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this current work is to identify three different gears of cross-country skiing utilizing embedded inertial measurement units and a suitable deep learning model. The cross-country style studied was the skating style during the uphill, which involved three different gears: symmetric gear pushing with poles on both sides (G3) and two asymmetric gears pushing with poles on the right side (G2R) or to the left side (G2L). To monitor the technique, inertial measurement units (IMUs) were affixed to the skis, recording acceleration and Euler angle data during the uphill tests performed by two experienced skiers using the gears under study. The initiation and termination points of the tests were controlled via Bluetooth by a smartphone using a custom application developed with Android Studio. Data were collected on the smartphone and stored on the SD memory cards included in each IMU. Convolutional neural networks combined with long short-term memory were utilized to classify and extract spatio-temporal features. The performance of the model in cross-user evaluations demonstrated an overall accuracy of 90%, and it achieved an accuracy of 98% in the cross-scene evaluations for individual users. These results indicate a promising performance of the developed system in distinguishing between different ski gears within skating styles, providing a valuable tool to enhance ski training and analysis. Background/Objectives: Female stress urinary incontinence (SUI) surgical treatment has changed since its beginning. Selecting materials that promote constructive tissue remodelling helps to maintain continence after surgery and minimizes complications. To analyze the long-term urinary continence results in women who underwent SUI surgical correction using the transobturator mid-urethral sling KIM system® (Knotless Incontinence Mesh) and analyze the complications associated with this SUI treatment. Materials and Methods: Prospective study of the first 1000 patients undergoing SUI surgery with the Contasure KIM® sling between April 2007 and December 2018. Results and complications were recorded. Group A represented 94.2% of the sample and were the continent patients after surgery (GA = 942), while Group B accounted for incontinent patients after surgery (5.8%) (GB = 58). Results: The mean age at operation was 60 years. Eutocic deliveries (p = 0.0022), high blood pressure (p = 0.0190), anxiety (p = 0.0084), hemorrhoidectomies (p = 0.0016) and hysterectomies (p = 0.0002) were higher in GB. No differences between groups were found regarding body mass index (GA 26.50; GB 26.93) (p = 0.220649), food or drug allergies (p = 0.0.6547), dystocia (p = 0.2365), diabetes mellitus (p = 0.1715), pelvic surgery (p = 0.8842), other surgery (p = 0.8801) or concomitant treatments that would have an impact on bladder function. Correction of SUI was achieved in 94.2% of cases. Continence persisted over time in 97.98% of continent patients at 4-year follow-up and 90.90% of patients at last follow-up. Mesh caused erosion of the urethra in 0.3% of patients and extruded to the vagina in 0.42%. De novo urinary urgency (2.8%), significant chronic pain (3.6%) and urinary tract infections (3.0%) after surgery were lower than complications reported in reviewed publications. Pain was treated with medication, and all patients were pain-free at the one-year follow-up visit. Conclusions: The mid-urethral transobturator sling KIM system® has good initial and long-term results in patients with stress urinary incontinence, with a low recurrence rate and minimal complications. Simple Summary: Sarcopenia, a condition where muscle mass decreases, is linked to worse outcomes in pancreatic cancer patients. Computed tomography scans, which are routinely used to monitor these patients, offer a chance to assess sarcopenia without additional procedures. However, different studies report varying rates of sarcopenia due to the use of different measurement methods and thresholds. This variability can affect conclusions regarding patient outcomes, such as overall or progression-free survival. In this study, we found that sarcopenia affects nearly half of pancreatic cancer patients, with higher rates in those with advanced stages of the disease. The prevalence varied depending on the measurement methods used. These findings highlight the need to standardize how sarcopenia is assessed in future studies, which may improve clinical decision making and patient care. Introduction: Sarcopenia, a condition characterized by a loss of skeletal muscle mass, is increasingly recognized as a significant factor influencing patient outcomes in pancreatic cancer (PC). This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to estimate the prevalence of sarcopenia in patients with PC using computed tomography and to explore how different measurement methods and cut-off values impact such prevalence. Materials and Methods: Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, a comprehensive search of PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE databases was performed, identifying 48 observational studies involving 9063 patients. Results: The overall pooled prevalence of sarcopenia was 45% (95% CI, 40–50%), but varied significantly by the method used: 47% when measured with the skeletal muscle index and 33% when assessed with the total psoas area. In addition, in studies using SMI, sarcopenia prevalence was 19%, 45%, and 57% for cutoff values <40 cm2/m2, 40–50 cm2/m2, and >50 cm2/m2, respectively. Moreover, the prevalence was higher in patients receiving palliative care (50%) compared to those treated with curative intent (41%). High heterogeneity was observed across all analyses, underscoring the need for standardized criteria in sarcopenia assessment. Conclusions: Our findings highlight the substantial variability in sarcopenia prevalence, which could influence patient outcomes, and stress the importance of consensus in measurement techniques to improve clinical decision making and research comparability. Background and Aims: Adaptive immunity is gaining a significant role in progression of metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). B‐cell activity can be assessed by serum‐free light chains (sFLCs) k and λ levels. The objective of the present investigation is to examine the utility of sFLCs as non‐invasive biomarkers for the stratification of MASLD. Methods: We enrolled a consecutive cohort from an outpatient liver unit. Diagnosis of metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatohepatitis (MASH) was made with liver biopsy according to current guidelines. Compensated advanced chronic liver disease (cACLD) and clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH) were defined according to Baveno VII criteria. sFLCs were measured by turbidimetry using an immunoassay. Results: We evaluated 254 patients, 162/254 (63.8%) were male. Median age was 54 years old, and the median body mass index was 28.4 kg/m2. A total of 157/254 (61.8%) subjects underwent liver biopsy: 88 had histological diagnosis of MASH, 89 were considered as simple metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver (MASL) and 77/254 (30.3%) patients with compensated metabolic dysfunction‐associated cirrhosis. By using Baveno VII criteria, 101/254 (39.7%) patients had cACLD; among them, 45/101 (44.5%) had CSPH. Patients with cACLD showed higher sFLC levels compared with patients without cACLD (p <.01), and patients with CSPH showed higher sFLC levels than patients without CSPH (p <.01). At multivariable analysis, sFLCs were associated with cACLD (p <.05) independently from γ‐globulins and other known dysmetabolic risk factors. κFLC was associated with CSPH (p <.05) independently from γ‐globulins and other known dysmetabolic risk factors. Background: Pediatric-onset Multiple Sclerosis (POMS) patients show more inflammatory disease compared with adult-onset MS. However, highly effective treatments are limited with only fingolimod being approved in Italy and natalizumab prescribed as off-label treatment. Objectives: to compare the efficacy of natalizumab versus fingolimod in POMS. Methods: This is an observational longitudinal multicentre study including natalizumab- and fingolimod-treated POMS patients (N-POMS and F-POMS, respectively). We collected Annual Relapse Rate (ARR), Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), Symbol Digit Modality Test (SDMT), and MRI activity at baseline (T0), 12–18 months (T1), and last available observation (T2). Results: We enrolled 57 N-POMS and 27 F-POMS patients from six Italian MS Centres. At T0, N-POMS patients showed higher ARR (p = 0.03), higher EDSS (p = 0.003) and lower SDMT (p = 0.04) at baseline compared with F-POMS. Between T0 and T1 ARR improved for both N-POMS and F-POMS (p < 0.001), while EDSS (p < 0.001) and SDMT (p = 0.03) improved only for N-POMS. At T2 (66.1 ± 55.4 months) we collected data from 42 out of 57 N-POMS patients showing no further ARR decrease. Conclusion: Both natalizumab and fingolimod showed high and sustained efficacy in controlling relapses and natalizumab also associated to a disability decrease in POMS. To evaluate in vitro fertilization (IVF) and perinatal outcomes of donor egg and autologous cycles in patients with advanced reproductive age after undergoing single frozen euploid embryo transfer. A multicenter, retrospective, cohort study. University-affiliated and private IVF centers. Patients aged 39–46 years who underwent IVF with intracytoplasmic sperm injection and preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy using whole-chromosome sequencing with donor (n = 278) or autologous (n = 278) oocytes between October 2017 and October 2021. Single frozen euploid embryo transfer with donor or autologous euploid embryo. The main outcome measure was the live birth rate (LBR) after the first embryo transfer, calculated per embryo transfer. The secondary outcomes included the implantation rate, ectopic pregnancy rate, miscarriage rate, and gestational age and birth weight at the time of delivery. Patients using donor or autologous oocytes had a similar likelihood of implantation (57.91% [51.87–63.78] vs. 57.19% [51.15–63.09]) and LBR (41.01% [95% confidence interval {CI}, 35.17–47.04] vs. 42.45% [95% CI, 36.56–48.49]). Furthermore, there were no significant differences in the ectopic pregnancy rate (0.72% [0.09–2.57] vs. 0.36% [0.01–1.99]), miscarriage rate (16.19% [12.06–21.05] vs. 14.39% [95% CI, 10.48–19.08]), gestational age (38.50 [38.08–38.92] vs. 39.16 [38.25–40.07] weeks), or birth weight of infants (2,982.25 [2,606.69–3,357.81] vs. 3,128.24 [2,962.30–3,294.17] kg). The univariate analysis showed no association between advanced maternal age and the LBR (relative risk, 1.03 [95% CI, 0.84–1.25]). Multivariate analysis using putative confounders for embryo competency found no associations with LBR (adjusted relative risk, 1.22 [95% CI, 0.75–1.98]). Patients with euploid blastocysts derived from donor or autologous oocytes did not reveal statistically significant differences in the LBR, implantation rate, ectopic pregnancy rate, miscarriage rate, duration of gestation, or infant birth weight. These findings suggest that age-related reproductive decline and/or poor IVF outcomes associated with women with advanced reproductive age undergoing IVF are heavily driven by embryonic aneuploidy. Eighty perimenopausal women scheduled for outpatient hysteroscopic polypectomy between January 2023 and March 2024 were randomly assigned to either intervention (n = 40) or control (n = 40) groups. Exclusion criteria included concomitant endometrial pathologies, recent therapy and adnexal diseases. The intervention group received oral DNG/EE 2 mg/0.03 mg/day started on any day of the menstrual cycle for 14 days. The control group underwent polypectomy between menstrual cycle days 8 and 11 without pharmacological treatment.Pre-procedure (p < 0.001) and post-procedure (p < 0.001) endometrial thickness were significantly reduced in the intervention group, along with a higher incidence of hypotrophic/atrophic endometrial patterns (p < 0.001). Introduction Purpose Materials and methods Results Conclusion Bidirectional vertical ridge augmentation in the posterior maxilla is very challenging.To evaluate the regenerative potential of micrografts, derived from periosteum or bone tissue, added to an anorganic xenograft in vertical reconstruction of the posterior maxilla, by a prospective, controlled study.After clinical selection and the analysis of CBCT scans, 24 posterior maxillary sites, in 19 patients, were treated by using Barbell Technique®. Sites requiring both inlay and onlay reconstruction were enrolled in the study. In the Control Group (CG, n = 8), a xenograft was used in the inlay site and for the onlay site, a 1:1 mix of xenograft and an autograft was used. In Test Group 1 (TG1, n = 8), both inlay and onlay sites were grafted with the xenograft associated with the micrografts derived from periosteum. In Test Group 2 (TG2, n = 8), both inlay and onlay sites were grafted with the xenograft associated with the micrografts derived from bone. Six months after the procedures, CBCT scans were obtained, and bone biopsy samples were harvested during implant placement surgery. The bone specimens were analyzed histomorphometrically, by measuring the percentages of vital mineralized tissue (VMT), non vital mineralized tissue (NVMT) and non mineralized tissue (NMT). Immunohistochemically, the levels of VEGF were categorized by a score approach.Histomorphometric analysis revealed, for the inlay grafts, no significant difference among the groups for VMT, NVMT and NMT. However, for onlay grafts, CG achieved a higher amount of VMT in comparison with TG2, and the opposite occurred for NMT values. In this regard, no statistical difference was observed between CG and TG1. Concerning immunohistochemistry, the VEGF values for CG and TG1 were slightly higher than those obtained by TG2 for both inlay and onlay grafts, but without statistical significance. CBCT analysis showed a similar level of gain for all groups, for both inlay and onlay bone augmentation sites. Clinically, one implant (in CG) within a total of 50 implants installed, had early failure and was replaced after 3 months. All patients received implant supported prosthesis.This study indicated that the clinical use of micrograft derived from periosteum may have some potential to increase bone formation in onlay reconstructions, unlike the micrograft derived from bone tissue. BACKGROUND RESULTS CONCLUSION Climate change results in an increased occurrence of drought periods, which affect the performance of Mediterranean legumes such as sulla. To evaluate the effects of drought stress on the antioxidant capacity and the accumulation of phytochemicals in sulla shoots, rainfed and drought‐stressed plants (RAI) and watered plants with timely vegetative regeneration (STI) were cultivated in parallel in a field experiment and sampled at four different times.Drought stress strongly and positively affected the antioxidant capacity and the accumulation of polyphenols in sulla shoots, with key differences at wintertime. These findings were supported through untargeted and targeted metabolomics of RAI and STI samples, which detailed the accumulation of about 300 secondary metabolites in RAI, mostly polyphenols and saponins.This study provided new insights into the changes in secondary metabolites in sulla due to drought stress, which can be used to produce forages or raw plant extracts with enhanced biological effects. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry. Objectives: To investigate temporal trends and overall complication rates among open partial nephrectomy (OPN) and minimally invasive partial nephrectomy (MIPN), including the impact of social determinants of health (SDOH) on postoperative outcomes. Methods: Patients who underwent OPN or MIPN between 2011 and 2021 were retrospectively analyzed by using PearlDiver-Mariner, an all-payer insurance claims database. The International Classification of Diseases diagnosis and procedure codes were used to identify the type of surgical operation, patient's characteristics (age, sex, region, insurance plan), postoperative complications and SDOH, categorized in education, healthcare, environmental, social, and economic domains. Outcomes were compared using multivariable regression models. Results: Overall, 65,325 patients underwent OPN (n = 23,377) or MIPN (n = 41,948). OPN adoption declined over the study period, whereas that of MIPN increased from 24% to 34% (p = 0.001). The 60-day postoperative complication rate was 15% for the open and 9% for the minimally invasive approach. Approximately 16% and 11% of patients reported at least one SDOH at baseline for OPN and MIPN, respectively. SDOH were associated with higher odds of postoperative complications (OPN = OR: 1.11, 95% CI: 1.01–1.25; MIPN = OR: 1.31, 95% CI: 1.18–1.46). The open approach showed a significantly higher risk of postoperative complications (OR: 1.62, 95% CI: 1.54–1.70) compared to the minimally invasive one. Conclusions: Our findings confirm that MIPN is gradually replacing OPN, which carries a higher risk of complications. This paper presents the results of the technical validation of an innovative prototype for drying alfalfa bales. It is based on a 4.1 kW Heat Pump (HP) that uses an advanced technology (optimized for extracting the humidity from the air) and is directly powered by a 6.6 kWp PV generator without grid or batteries support. The main technical challenges of this work were managing solar irradiance fluctuations due to cloud-passing and achieving good drying efficiency. The prototype has been validated for two consecutive drying campaigns in La Rioja (Spain). There were no abrupt stops generated by cloud-passing. The PRPV, which evaluates the performance of the PV system only during the periods when the PV energy can be used by the HP unit, presented values of 0.82 and 0.85, comparable to a well-performing grid-connected PV system. Although the bales' initial relative humidity (RH) ranged from 18 to 30%, all but one of them presented a final RH below 16%, which is the limit point to avoid fermentation. The drying times ranged from 1 to 5 h, and the specific energy consumption per liter of water extracted, from 0.7 to 1.46 kWh/L. The valorization of industrial byproducts is an emerging practice that aims to transform waste materials generated during production processes into valuable resources. In this work, a preliminary study was carried out on the thermal conversion of an industrial solid byproduct resulting from the pickling of metal surfaces, mainly containing iron (II) oxalate. In a fixed-bed reactor, the thermal conversion was investigated as a function of the operating temperature and overall time. The starting material and the products obtained after heat treatment were characterized in detail, using numerous qualitative and semi-quantitative techniques. The aim of this research was to determine the optimal operating conditions for the transformation of the industrial byproduct into a high-quality product. By varying the operating conditions, it was found that complete conversion of iron (II) oxalate to magnetite was achieved at high temperatures (i.e., 773 K and 873 K) after one hour of treatment. The resulting product had a low degree of crystallization, which increased slightly with an increasing reaction time at a temperature of 873 K, reaching a maximum of about 11%. The magnetite obtained can be used in the future as a starting material for chemical looping processes as a chemical/energy carrier for the production of hydrogen. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The emergence and spread of drug-resistant pathogens, resulting in antimicrobial resistance, continue to compromise our capability to handle commonly occurring infectious diseases. The rapid global spread of multi-drug-resistant pathogens, particularly systemic fungal infections, presents a significant concern, as existing antimicrobial drugs are becoming ineffective against them. In recent decades, there has been a notable increase in systemic fungal infections, primarily caused by Candida species, which are progressively developing resistance to azoles. Moreover, Candida species biofilms are among the most common in clinical settings. In particular, they adhere to biomedical devices, growing as a resilient biofilm capable of withstanding extraordinarily high antifungal concentrations. In recent years, many research programs have concentrated on the development of novel compounds with possible antimicrobial effects to address this issue, and new sources, such as plant-derived antimicrobial compounds, have been thoroughly investigated. Essential oils (EOs), among their numerous pharmacological properties, exhibit antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral activities and have been examined at a global scale as the possible origin of novel antimicrobial compounds. A recent work carried out by our research group concerned the synergistic antibacterial activities of commercially available and chemically characterized Cinnamomum verum L. essential oil (C. verum EO) in association with sertraline, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor whose repositioning as a non-antibiotic drug has been explored over the years with encouraging results. The aim of this work was to explore the synergistic effects of C. verum EO with sertraline on both planktonic and sessile Candida species cells. Susceptibility testing and testing of the synergism of sertraline and C. verum EO against planktonic and sessile cells were performed using a broth microdilution assay and checkerboard methods. A synergistic effect was evident in both the planktonic cells and mature biofilms, with significant reductions in fungal viability. Indeed, the fractional inhibitory concentration index (FICI) was lower than 0.5 for all the associations, thus indicating significant synergism of the associations with the Candida strains examined. Moreover, the concentrations of sertraline able to inhibit Candida spp. strain growth and biofilm formation significantly decreased when it was used in combination with C. verum EO for all the strains considered, with a reduction percentage in the amount of each associated component ranging from 87.5% to 97%. This retrospective analysis at a major Italian university hospital (January 2018–September 2022) assessed the prognostic significance of fever in patients with bloodstream infections (BSIs). Of the 1299 patients with positive blood cultures, a comparison between febrile and afebrile patients at emergency department admission was conducted. This study particularly focused on the mortality rates associated with these two groups. Notably, afebrile patients exhibited a higher mortality rate. The odds ratio for mortality in afebrile patients was significantly higher compared to febrile patients. This suggests that the absence of fever might be an indicator of increased mortality risk, highlighting the complexity of diagnosing bloodstream infections based on fever presence. Minicutting has been used for several woody species, presenting greater efficiency than propagation by conventional cutting due to its high yield of propagative material and higher percentage of rooting in minicuttings. This work was carried out to evaluate the efficiency of minicutting techniques for the 'Bluegem' blueberry and find the best concentration of IBA for rooting the minicuttings. The minigarden was installed in pots using micropropagated plants. Four collections of minicuttings were carried out between 27 October 2020 and 12 April 2021, and received the following treatments: 0; 2000; 4000; 6000; and 8000 mg L−1 of IBA. The minicutting was carried out in a mist chamber and evaluated after 60 days. The yield of minicuttings increased from the first to the third collection, decreasing in the fourth collection when the plants began to enter dormancy. The rooting of the minicuttings was influenced by the collection time and the application of IBA. Increasing IBA concentration increased the percentage of rooted minicuttings and root dry mass to concentrations close to 5000 mg L−1 on almost all collection dates. High concentrations of IBA reduced the percentage of sprouted minicuttings and leaf retention and increased mortality. Background: Variability in obstetric outcomes in terms of the number and type of deliveries related to the day–night cycle has been described in previous studies. This 11-year retrospective analysis explores the effects of nighttime versus daytime delivery with labor epidural on obstetric outcomes. Methods: Data on deliveries performed between 1 October 2008 and 1 October 2019 were collected and differentiated into daytime, occurring from 8:00 a.m. to 7:59 p.m., and nighttime deliveries, occurring from 8:00 p.m. to 7:59 a.m. of the following day. The data collected included the patient history and maternal and neonatal outcomes. Results: A total of 29831 patients were included in the analysis. A positive and statistically significant correlation between the number of cesarean sections (Odds Ratio 1.35; 95% confidence interval = 1.26–1.44; p < 0.001) and the number of vaginal operative deliveries (Odds Ratio 1.21; 95% confidence interval = 1.01–1.44; p < 0.05) in patients who did not receive an epidural at nighttime was reported. Regarding the labor epidurals, a significantly greater incidence of accidental dural punctures with needles (0,4%; p < 0.05) in the nighttime versus daytime was reported. Conclusions: The absence of labor epidurals was associated with a significant increase in the number of cesarean sections and vaginal operative deliveries occurring at nighttime, without significant differences in labor duration. Background: Physical activity (PA) intensity could play a key role in atherosclerosis risk, but the existing literature shows controversial results. The aim of this study was to analyze the association of different PA levels with the presence of subclinical atherosclerosis in femoral and carotid arteries. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted of 449 middle-aged men belonging to the Aragon Workers' Health Study. Demographic, anthropometric, and clinical data were obtained during the annual medical examination. Ultrasonography was used to assess the presence of atheroma plaques in femoral and carotid territories. Accelerometry was used to assess habitual PA. Participants were categorized into vigorous PA (VPA) groups (0 min/week, >0–60 min/week, >60 min/week), and into moderate to vigorous PA (MVPA) groups using terciles as cut-offs. Results: Compared with participants who completed 0 min/week of VPA, those participants who completed >60 min/week of VPA had fully adjusted odds of subclinical atherosclerosis of 0.47 (95%CI: 0.22, 0.99, p < 0.05) and 0.35 (95%CI: 0.17, 0.73, p < 0.05) for femoral and any territory (femoral and/or carotid) respectively. No significant differences were observed in the prevalence of atheroma plaques in any vascular territory between the different MVPA groups. Forest dynamics are driven by micro‐disturbances leading to gap formation. Root rot pathogens can cause mortality to adult trees, which die forming gaps. However, little is known about the biotic and abiotic factors that govern gap creation and expansion such as tree infection or drought resilience, and what are the consequences for nutrient cycling and soil microbiota.We studied the dynamics of gaps created by Heterobasidion abietinum in mountain silver fir (Abies alba) forests from the Spanish Central Pyrenees. Tree‐ring width information was used to evaluate growth patterns of trees located within and at the edge of gaps and under closed canopy conditions. We analysed soil nutrient content and microbial structure at different positions with respect to the gap. Soil fungal community was also characterized by sequencing the ITS2 region.Gaps created by H. abietinum ranged 582–1072 m2 and gathered large amounts of standing and laying dead wood biomass amounting to up to 500 m3 ha−1 of coarse woody debris. This indicates that tree mortality had been occurring over decades, and it was preceded by a long‐term growth decline and impaired drought resilience. Root rot affected trees beyond the current limit of the gaps leading to growth decline, preventing canopy closure and allowing the release of suppressed trees within the gap. Gap formation did neither affect soil fertility nor fungal and bacterial biomass and diversity, but long‐distance ectomycorrhizal fungi were more abundant within gaps.Synthesis. Root rot pathogens play key ecological roles in forest dynamics at fine spatial scale. Heterobasidion abietinum infection, and its interaction with drought, creates and expands gaps by killing large trees and preventing surrounding trees from closing the gap. Medical image datasets are essential for training models used in computer-aided diagnosis, treatment planning, and medical research. However, some challenges are associated with these datasets, including variability in data distribution, data scarcity, and transfer learning issues when using models pre-trained from generic images. This work studies the effect of these challenges at the intra- and inter-domain level in few-shot learning scenarios with severe data imbalance. For this, we propose a methodology based on Siamese neural networks in which a series of techniques are integrated to mitigate the effects of data scarcity and distribution imbalance. Specifically, different initialization and data augmentation methods are analyzed, and four adaptations to Siamese networks of solutions to deal with imbalanced data are introduced, including data balancing and weighted loss, both separately and combined, and with a different balance of pairing ratios. Moreover, we also assess the inference process considering four classifiers, namely Histogram, kNN, SVM, and Random Forest. Evaluation is performed on three chest X-ray datasets with annotated cases of both positive and negative COVID-19 diagnoses. The accuracy of each technique proposed for the Siamese architecture is analyzed separately. The results are compared to those obtained using equivalent methods on a state-of-the-art CNN, achieving an average F1 improvement of up to 3.6%, and up to 5.6% of F1 for intra-domain cases. We conclude that the introduced techniques offer promising improvements over the baseline in almost all cases and that the technique selection may vary depending on the amount of data available and the level of imbalance. In-Orbit Demonstration (IOD) missions represent flight opportunities to acquire data on spacecraft and space environment and to demonstrate new techniques at system, subsystem, and payload level. Realizing this type of mission means accepting a greater level of risk. However, when very compact and relatively simple platforms like CubeSats are adopted, this becomes admissible since costs can be kept low. Distributed Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is a novel Earth Observation (EO) technique for microwave imaging. It uses multiple cooperating receivers and suitable processing to enable performance and products that exceed those of the single components of the system. RODiO (Radar for earth Observation by synthetic aperture Distributed on a cluster of CubeSats equipped with high-technology micro-propellers for new Operative services) is an IOD of the distributed SAR concept. The mission is based on four, 16 U, CubeSats, that embark a receiving-only X-band SAR instrument able to collect bistatic echoes exploiting a monostatic SAR as an opportunity illuminator, i.e PLATiNO-1 mission. Distributed SAR demonstration is thus pursued in RODiO combining the principles of both multistatic and bistatic SAR. The paper, moving from mission goals, individuates different families of EO products that RODiO can demonstrate, e.g. in the contest of ground motion, digital elevation models, and ship detection. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic seems to be at its end. During the first outbreak, alfa was the dominant variant, and in the two following years, delta was the dominant variant. Questions remain about the prevalence and severity of post-COVID syndrome (PCS). We compared the medium-term outcomes of a selected group of patients considered at high risk for PCS: hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19 infection who presented clinical evidence of the acute onset of venous thromboembolism. Weighted Cox regression was used to estimate the adjusted hazard ratios for the risk of early and medium-term complications and quality of life (QoL) in COVID-19 patients developing acute venous thrombo-embolism according to the period of admission to the hospital. The primary outcome was the modification of QoL at a median follow-up of 24 months in patients hospitalized for COVID-19. The secondary outcome was the modification of QoL related to COVID-19 severity. The absolute risk of mortality for hospitalized COVID-19 patients was higher during the first outbreak (risk difference, 19% [95% confidence interval [CI], 16–22%]). Patients with acute onset of thromboembolism during the first outbreak had increased mortality, hospital stay, and need for intensive care unit treatment (p < 0.01). In patients who suffered from severe COVID-19 infection and thromboembolism in the following 2 years, symptoms during follow-up were less common and milder (risk difference 45% [95% CI, 40–52%]. In total, 19 patients were alive at 24 months follow-up: 12 patients (63%) reported important physical symptoms and 10 patients (52%) relevant emotional/mental symptoms. All patients reported reduced QoL in comparison with the preinfection time; in 15 patients (79%), the reduced QoL limited significantly their social and work activities. All patients reported permanent worsening of QoL after discharge from the hospital. Comparing the three different February to April interval years (2020, 2021, and 2022), patients reported a somewhat worse perception of health condition in comparison with the preinfection time, respectively, in 100, 79, and 56% respectively. The findings of our study show reduced prevalence and severity of PCS in the last 2 years. Less virulent variants, herd immunity, and vaccination may played a significant role. Accurately evaluating drought and its effects on the natural environment is difficult in regions with limited climate monitoring stations, particularly in the hyper-arid region of the Sultanate of Oman. Rising global temperatures and increasing incidences of insufficient precipitation have turned drought into a major natural disaster worldwide. In Oman, drought constitutes a major threat to food security. In this study, drought indices (DIs), such as temperature condition index (TCI), vegetation condition index (VCI), and vegetation health index (VHI), which integrate data on drought streamflow, were applied using moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) data and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform to monitor agricultural drought and assess the drought risks using the drought hazard index (DHI) during the period of 2001–2023. This approach allowed us to explore the spatial and temporal complexities of drought patterns in the Najd region. As a result, the detailed analysis of the TCI values exhibited temporal variations over the study period, with notable minimum values observed in specific years (2001, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, and 2021), and there was a discernible trend of increasing temperatures from 2014 to 2023 compared to earlier years. According to the VCI index, several years, including 2001, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, were characterized by mild drought conditions. Except for 2005 and 2007, all studied years were classified as moderate drought years based on the VHI index. The Pearson correlation coefficient analysis (PCA) was utilized to observe the correlation between DIs, and a high positive correlation between VHI and VCI (0.829, p < 0.01) was found. Based on DHI index spatial analysis, the northern regions of the study area faced the most severe drought hazards, with severity gradually diminishing towards the south and east, and approximately 44% of the total area fell under moderate drought risk, while the remaining 56% was classified as facing very severe drought risk. This study emphasizes the importance of continued monitoring, proactive measures, and effective adaptation strategies to address the heightened risk of drought and its impacts on local ecosystems and communities. This study addresses this gap by systematically reviewing the literature to investigate genetic markers associated with chemotherapy-induced ovarian failure (CIOF). Objective: The primary objective is to identify genetic markers linked to CIOF, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing fertility preservation in female cancer survivors. Methods: A systematic review was conducted using PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Scopus, and OVID electronic databases from inception through December 2023. Studies were included if they featured genomic assessments of genes or polymorphisms related to CIOF in women with histologically confirmed tumors. Exclusion criteria comprised in vitro and animal studies, reviews, and pilot studies. The resulting four human-based studies were scrutinized for insights into genetic influences on CIOF. Results: Of the 5179 articles initially identified, four studies met the inclusion criteria, focusing on alkylating agents, particularly cyclophosphamide, and anthracyclines. Su et al. explored CYP3A41B variants, revealing modified associations with CIOF based on age. Charo et al. investigated GSTA1 and CYP2C19 polymorphisms, emphasizing the need to consider age and tamoxifen therapy in assessing associations. Oktay et al. delved into the impact of BRCA mutations on anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels post-chemotherapy, supported by in vitro assays. Van der Perk et al. focused on childhood cancer survivors and revealed significant associations of CYP3A43 and CYP2B6*2 SNPs with AMH levels. Conclusions: This systematic review analyzes evidence regarding genetic markers influencing CIOF, emphasizing the complex interplay of age, specific genetic variants, and chemotherapy regimens. The findings underscore the need for a personalized approach in assessing CIOF risk, integrating genetic markers with traditional ovarian reserve testing. The implications of this study extend to potential advancements in fertility preservation strategies, offering clinicians a comprehensive baseline assessment for tailored interventions based on each patient's unique genetic profile. The tensile properties of sintered C f -ZrB 2 /SiC UHTCMCs were investigated for different lamination sequences, revealing ultimate strengths of 570 MPa (0°/0°), 120 MPa (0°/90°), and 40 MPa (90°/90°). The results facilitated modeling the material's non-linear tensile response, characterized by a remarkably prolonged plateau with pseudo-plastic behavior, followed by stiffness recovery before ultimate failure. A simplified analytical model was developed to predict this behavior originated by residual thermal stresses and inelastic phenomena. A complete constitutive law was then developed and implemented in a FE model, utilizing a bi-phasic approach including Drucker-Prager plasticity and orthotropic ductile damage. Two-step analyses were performed, starting with a thermal step to represent the buildup of a self-equilibrating RTS state in the material phases, followed by a mechanical simulation. This demonstrated the model's efficacy in capturing the non-linear response in both homogeneous and cross-ply lay-ups, contributing to advancements in materials engineering and the design of UHTCMCs-based hot structures. The emergence of antimicrobic-resistant infectious pathogens and the consequent rising in the incidence and prevalence of demises caused by or associated to infections which are not sensitive to drug treatments is one of today's major global health challenges. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) can bring to therapeutic failure, infection's persistence and risk of serious illness, in particular in vulnerable populations such as the elderly, patients with neoplastic diseases or the immunocompromised. It is assessed that AMR will induce until 10 million deaths per year by 2050, becoming the leading cause of disease-related deaths. The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations General Assembly urgently call for new measures to combat the phenomenon. Research and development of new antimicrobial agents has decreased due to market failure. However, promising results are coming from new alternative therapeutic strategies such as monoclonal antibodies, microbiome modulators, nanomaterial-based therapeutics, vaccines, and phages. GTP or Working Group activities of Teachers is a programmed designed in the national curriculum standard as well as guidelines for the implementation of lesson plans at the basic education level. GPT is one of the most basic education levels in one and two cycles. The objective of the GPT is to increase the level of knowledge of teachers in each school. The data analysis technique used in this research is descriptive statistics analysis techniques and inference analysis techniques with the aim of studying the research variable itself. According to the GPT manual the Ministry of Education of Timor-Leste (2014) defines how to carry out GPT "GPT implementation is obtained from local research data or by analyzing the list of observations for teachers during a month before the GPT is technical. In relation to the variables and samples mentioned, the techniques used to collect data are observation, questionnaire and documentation and according to Setiono and Riwonoto (2015) states that the Likert scale is the psychometric scale that is generally used in the questionnaire. And the instrument to be used to measure alternative responses is the Likert scale, this scale can be measured by choosing the perfect alternative answers, with the value used being 1 to 5 variables, so the researcher concluded that the questionnaire distributed to teachers with variables (X) is the influence of the activity of the teachers (GTP) and variable (Y) is the effectiveness of teaching mathematics, from the dependent and independent variables used by the researcher to find out whether or not the influence of one variable on another variable. Thus the results of the inference statistics analysis on the influence of the activity of the Working Group teachers (GTP) with a sample of 27 shows that the table = 0, 9 with a count = 2. Because the largest count of the table (2 > 0,9) is that we can say that we revenue Ho and accept Hi with his conclusion that there is a significant influence between the Activity of the Working Group dose teachers on the effectiveness of mathematics teaching (Y) at EBC Fahisoi Lequidoe and EBC Besilau Laulara. Long COVID-19 is characterized by ongoing symptoms or prolonged or long-term complications of SARS-CoV-2 contraction which persist beyond 4 weeks from the initial onset of symptoms. Gender and duration of hospitalization (DH) are key risk factors for developing long COVID-19 syndrome, but their impact and interplay need further study. This research involved 996 long COVID-19 patients, and we compared the levels of general psychopathology, depression, agitated depression, anxiety, and medication use between hospitalized and non-hospitalized males and females. In the hospitalized patients, multivariate regressions assessed the impact of gender, DH, and the interaction of these variables. The females had higher levels of long COVID-19 symptoms, psychotropic drug use, depression, anxiety, and general psychopathology than the males. The non-hospitalized females exhibited more severe agitated depression than the non-hospitalized males. In females, DH was more strongly correlated with the number of psychotropic medications used during long COVID-19. A negative correlation was found between DH and severity of agitated depression in the female patients only. Background/Objectives: Many patients suffering from liver cirrhosis are eventually added to waiting lists for liver transplantation whose priority is established based on scales such as the Child–Pugh score. However, two marker rhythms of the circadian system, motor activity and distal temperature, are not evaluated. Methods: To determine the relationship between the functional status of the circadian system and the Child–Pugh scale in patients awaiting liver transplantation, distal temperature, motor activity, and light exposure rhythms were monitored for a full week using a wrist device (Kronowise 6.0) in 63 patients (17 women, 46 men) aged between 20 and 76 years. Results: Circadian parameters (amplitude, regularity, and fragmentation) of motor activity rhythms, distal temperature, and light exposure worsen in close association with liver disease severity as assessed by using the Child–Pugh score. Likewise, the worsening of rhythmic parameters and liver disease is associated with a deterioration in the markers of the red series: count, hemoglobin, and hematocrit. Conclusions: These results indicate the utility of ambulatory monitoring of marker rhythms to complement the clinical information provided by the Child–Pugh scale and to help establish nutrition, physical exercise, and sleep guidelines that promote better survival and quality of life in these patients. Simple Summary: The treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) has dramatically changed following the availability of new drugs with targeted mechanisms of action. Traditional and new prognostic factors are being investigated to individualize and guide these new treatments. In this review, we discuss the clinical relevance of genomic factors including immunoglobulin heavy chain variable (IGHV) mutational status, TP53 abnormalities, complex karyotype, and prognostic scores in relation to new targeted agents. Novel drugs have profoundly changed the outcomes in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) patients, and the traditional prognostic factors that were identified in the era of chemoimmunotherapy need to be validated in the context of these new targeted therapies. Currently, the most important prognostic genetic biomarkers are the immunoglobulin heavy chain variable (IGHV) mutational status, genetic aberrations including del(17p)/TP53 abnormalities, and the complex karyotype. In this review, we discuss the prognostic role of these genomic markers in relation to novel treatments. Moreover, we present and discuss new scoring systems that were elaborated and validated in the era of new drugs. In routine clinical practice, the application of an extensive genomic work-up with validated prognostic markers could improve the identification of "very high-risk" CLL patients who could benefit from novel, more effective targeted treatments. However, even more rarely, it has also been described in patients with low- or intermediate-risk EC. Unfortunately, knowledge appears limited on the topic. Objectives: Our objective was to systematically review the literature on PSM in low- or intermediate-risk EC. Search Strategy: A systematic review of the literature was performed by searching six electronic databases from their inception to January 2023. Selection Criteria: We included in our research all peer-reviewed studies which reported PSM in low- or intermediate-risk EC women. Data Collection and Analysis: Data on PSM were collected from the included studies and compared. Results: Seven studies with 13 patients (including our case) were included in the systematic review. PSM was reported in patients with low- or intermediate-risk EC independently from tumor histologic characteristics, endoscopic approach, lymph node staging type, number and site of the port, route of specimen removal, prevention strategies for PSM, and concomitant metastases. Among several proposed treatments, local resection and radiotherapy with or without chemotherapy might be the most appropriate ones. Nevertheless, the prognosis appears poor. Conclusions: In patients with low- or intermediate-risk EC, PSM can occur as a rare metastasis, regardless of tumor characteristics or surgical strategy. Leishmaniasis is an infectious disease caused by protozoa of the genus Leishmania, which is endemic in certain areas of Europe, such as southern Spain. The disease manifests in various clinical phenotypes, including visceral, cutaneous, mucosal, or asymptomatic leishmaniasis. This diversity in clinical outcomes may be influenced by the host immune response, with human leukocyte antigen (HLA) molecules playing a crucial role in determining susceptibility and progression of the infection. This study explores the association between specific HLA variants and Leishmania infantum infection. We recruited four cohorts: a control group, asymptomatic individuals, patients with symptomatic disease, and cohabitants of infected individuals. HLA typing was performed for all participants, followed by an association analysis with infection status and disease progression. Our findings indicate that the HLA-B*38 and HLA-C*03 alleles are associated with protection against L. infantum infection. These results contribute to a better understanding of the disease's progression, offer potential for new therapeutic approaches such as vaccines, and expand the existing knowledge in the literature. The aim of our study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of a sutureless off-clamp robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (sl-oc RAPN), particularly its impact on renal function. A multicenter study was conducted from April 2021 to June 2022. Patients diagnosed with a renal mass of >2 cm and a PADUA score of ≤6 consecutively underwent an sl-oc RAPN procedure. Tumor features, patients characteristics, and intraoperative outcomes were assessed. An evaluation of renal function was performed preoperatively, and again at 1 and 3 months after surgery by measuring the creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels. The renal function of the two separate kidneys was assessed by a sequential renal scintigraphy performed before and at least 30 days after surgery. A total of 21 patients underwent an sl-oc RAPN. The median age was 64 years (IQR 52/70), the median tumor diameter was 40 mm (IQR 29/45), and the median PADUA score was 4 (3.5/5). The intraoperative outcomes included operative time (OT), 90 (IQR 74/100) min; estimated blood loss (EBL), 150 (IQR 50/300) mL; and perioperative complications, CD > 3 1(5%); only two patients presented positive surgical margins in their final histology (2/21, 10%). Compared to the preoperative value, a decrease in renal function was highlighted with a statistically significant median decrease of 10 mL/min (p < 0.01). The renal scintigraphy showed an overall decrease in renal function compared to the preoperative value, with a range in the operated kidney that varied from 0 to 15 mL/s and from 0% to 40%, with a median value of 4 mL/s and 12%. sl-oc RAPN is a safe procedure, with a minimal impact on kidney function alteration. Poison and other indiscriminate means are used illegally for wildlife control worldwide. This pervasive phenomenon can significantly damage ecosystems overall and be particularly harmful to certain species (endangered or otherwise) that are susceptible to poisoned baits. Poisoning (and co‐occurring poaching) jeopardizes public administration efforts to reintroduce or support the populations of certain species, while the favored toxic substances used pose a major threat not only to the biodiversity of habitats but also to human health. Both alleged and actual harm to crops and hunting resources are the main driver of illegal vermin and predator control. Previous studies on poisons and other nonselective methods of wildlife elimination have focused on the means used and the species affected. We have instead taken a global empirical approach, also analyzing contextual aspects, what motivates perpetrators and, eventually, the characteristics of the poisoners and users of various indiscriminate means for illegal wildlife control in Spain. This analysis is derived from a thorough examination of incidents based on the investigation of perpetrator by police and judicial records. Furthermore, this work provides a methodological framework that serves as first approach to this issue, gaining insight into the formulation of preventive policies and improving decision taking by law enforcement agencies. Reports produced by popular malware analysis services showed a disparity in samples available for different malware families. The unequal distribution between such classes can be attributed to several factors, such as technological advances and the application domain that seeks to infect a computer virus. Recent studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of deep learning (DL) algorithms when learning multi-class classification tasks using imbalanced datasets. This can be achieved by updating the learning function such that correct and incorrect predictions performed on the minority class are more rewarded or penalized, respectively. This procedure can be logically implemented by leveraging the deep reinforcement learning (DRL) paradigm through a proper formulation of the Markov decision process (MDP). This paper proposes SINNER, i.e., a DRL-based multi-class classifier that approaches the data imbalance problem at the algorithmic level by exploiting a redesigned reward function, which modifies the traditional MDP model used to learn this task. Based on the experimental results, the proposed formula appears to be successful. In addition, SINNER has been compared to several DL-based models that can handle class skew without relying on data-level techniques. Our aim in the present study was to test the efficacy of a 13-week, 19-session psychological intervention program on young soccer players' competitive anxiety and their sport psychological profiles. Participants were 37 players in the under-15 age category, of which 18 players formed the experimental group (M age = 14.67 years, SD =.48) and 19 players formed the control group (M age = 14.23 years, SD =.42); this was a quasi-experimental design without random assignment to groups. We had all participants complete the Psychological Inventory of Sport Performance (IPED), the Questionnaire of Psychological Characteristics of Sport Performance (CPRD), and the Competition State Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-2) before and after the intervention. Results indicated positive effects for the intervention group (but not the control group) on stress control and motivation dimensions of the CPRD, cognitive anxiety and self-confidence on the CSAI-2, and self-confidence and attentional control on the IPED. These results suggest that psychological training for athletes contributes to their improved psychological skills, providing them tools to better adapt to the competitive environment. The current management protocol of tubal EP consists of either surgical management, or medical management with methotrexate. • Recent studies, while few, have suggested that letrozole, an aromatase inhibitor, may play a role in the medical treatment of tubal EP. • A systematic review and meta -analysis was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of letrozole in the medical treatment of tubal EP. retrospective or prospective studies reporting the treatment of tubal EP with letrozole were considered eligible for inclusion. • A total of 152 patients were included. Seventy-nine patients (51.97 %) were treated with letrozole, 39 patients (16.54 %) with methotrexate, and 34 patients (31.49 %) underwent surgical treatment. • Pooled data analysis supports the consistency of the effect of letrozole in reducing β-hCG over time at a comparable rate among studies, and that treatment with letrozole is superior to surgery and has the same efficacy as methotrexate. • This meta -analysis suggests that letrozole is a promising alternative to methotrexate and surgical therapy in the treatment of tubal EP. Pooled data analysis supports the consistency of the effect of letrozole in reducing β-hCG over time at a comparable rate among studies, and that treatment with letrozole is superior to surgery and has the same efficacy as methotrexate. However, all the included studies were judged at high risk of bias in terms of study design, sample representativeness, and sampling technique. Furthermore, short and long term side effects were not reported in any of the included studies. Letrozole is a promising alternative to methotrexate and surgical therapy in the treatment of tubal EP. The non-relativistic large-Z expansion of the exchange energy of neutral atoms provides an important input to modern non-empirical density functional approximations. Recent works report results of fitting the terms beyond the dominant term, given by the local density approximation (LDA), leading to an anomalous Z ln Z term that cannot be predicted from naïve scaling arguments. Here, we provide much more detailed data analysis of the mostly smooth asymptotic trend describing the difference between exact and LDA exchange energy, the nature of oscillations across rows of the Periodic Table, and the behavior of the LDA contribution itself.
