Abstract

The article discusses the separate but equal legal doctrine in relation to the National Guard units in several states which apparently refuse to issue identification cards which entitle same-sex spouses of U.S. military members to claim benefits as of November 2013. The U.S. Supreme Court's ruling regarding the nation's Defense of Marriage Act is mentioned, along with states such as Florida and Georgia which are barring same-sex spouses from accessing commissary privileges and health care.
