The article discusses the dangers posed within the college campus communities to which social media may contribute including cyberbullying, racial hostility, and stalking behaviors as well as dangers posed by the evolving threat of coordinated disinformation. The needed pedagogical changes to help students engage with the world through social media are explored. The essential role of standard digital media literacy interventions in addressing the influence of social media is also tackled.

In this article the author discusses the implications of the rhetoric of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) about the system of higher education in the U.S. He is critical that the organization only does more harm than good since its claim are insubstantial and unproven. He contends that the organization's rhetoric is only good for its own fundraising initiative, but not for the improvement of the academia.
