Summary Unmanned aerial vehicle operations are quickly gaining ground due to rapid global market penetration. While on one hand, novel technologies that bridge communication networks to aviation industry are yet to be explored, on the other hand, their development requires highly scalable systems to enable beyond visual line‐of‐sight missions. This requirement imposes a big bottleneck in terms of computation complexity. This paper presents a method for fast computation of multiple diffraction of radio waves over knife‐edge obstacles based on the Deygout technique and some offline computation steps, including a ground profile analysis. We prove that this algorithm is equivalent to the original Deygout algorithm for all non‐line‐of‐sight points, show heuristics confirming that it is mostly applicable in the line‐of‐sight case. The computational and memory complexity of our algorithm is approximately O(N)$$ \mathcal{O}\left(\sqrt{N}\right) $$, compared to O(N)$$ \mathcal{O}(N) $$ for the original Deygout algorithm. In order to extend fair queueing algorithms to wireless networks, we propose a channel error and handoff compensation scheme. A compensation is performed by a compensation server and a priority swapping mechanism. The proposed compensation scheme provides a short-term fairness guarantee for an error-free session, long-term fairness guarantee for an erroneous session, fast handoff and traffic-specific quality of service control. Polar codes, as the coding scheme for the control channel in fifth-generation mobile communication technology (5G), have attracted widespread attention since their proposal. As a mainstream decoding algorithm for polar codes, the successive cancellation list (SCL) decoder usually improves the error correction performance by increasing the list size, but this method suffers from the problems of high decoding complexity. To address this problem, this paper proposes a layered-search bit-flipping (LS-SCLF) decoding algorithm based on SCL decoding. Firstly, a new flip-bit metric is proposed, which derives a formula to approximate the probability of an error occurring in an information bit. This formula introduces a perturbation parameter to improve the calculation accuracy. Secondly, a compromise scheme for determining the perturbation parameter is proposed. The scheme uses Monte Carlo simulation to determine an optimized parameter for the precise positioning of the first erroneous decoded bit under different decoding conditions. Finally, a layered search strategy is adopted to sequentially search the erroneous decoded bits from the low order to high order, which can correct up to multiple bits at the same time. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves improved error correction performance with a slight increase in decoding complexity compared to the generalized SCL-Flip (GSCLF) decoding algorithm. As Mobile Communication and Internet Systems (MCIS) have rapidly developed, security issues related to MCIS have become increasingly important. Therefore, the development and research of security technologies for mobile communication and internet systems are actively being conducted. Hash-Based Signature (HBS) uses a hash function to construct a digital signature scheme, where its security is guaranteed by the collision resistance of the hash function used. To provide sufficient security in the post-quantum environment, the length of hash should be satisfied for the security requirement. Modern HBS can be classified into stateful and stateless schemes. Two representative stateful and stateless HBS are eXtended Merkle Signature Scheme(XMSS) and SPHINCS + , respectively. In this paper, we propose two HBS schemes: K-XMSS and K-SPHINCS + , which replace internal hash functions of XMSS and SPHINCS + with Korean cryptography algorithms. K-XMSS is a stateful signature, while K-SPHINCS + is its stateless counterpart. We showcase the reference implementation of K-XMSS and K-SPHINCS + employing Lightweight Secure Hash (LSH) and two hash functions based on block ciphers (i.e., CHAM and LEA) as the internal hash function. In addition, K-XMSS and K-SPHINCS + using Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2) have been provided, demonstrating that they can be optimized for better performance using advanced implementation techniques than previous approaches. The multimedia applications and mobile communication systems require an efficient reconfigurable finite impulse response (RFIR) filter designs for achieving low area, power, cost, and high speed of system operation. In this paper, an efficient RFIR filter is designed based on the Radix-2 algorithm and Look-up-table Carry Select Adder (Radix 2 – LCSLA). Generally, the RFIR filter is controlled by multiplier and adder, which improves the performances of the filter. Hence, this research work is mostly concentrated on the multiplier and adder design. Here, the radix-2 algorithm is used instead of normal multiplier for multiplication operation in the RFIR filter design. Additionally, CSLA and LCSLA approaches used in the Radix-2 structure for adding partial products. The LCSLA has achieved better performance compared to the normal CSLA approaches. In this paper, both the Radix-2 algorithm and LCSLA approach improved the performances of the proposed RFIR filter design. The proposed RFIR filter design was implemented in the Xilinx and Cadence RTL compiler by using the Verilog code. The RFIR-Radix 2-LCSLA filter design was verified in the Modelsim by utilizing the Verilog code. The experimental result showed that the RFIR-Radix 2-LCSLA methodology has improved the performance of ASIC and FPGA in the RFIR filter design up to 5–15% compared to the existing filter architecture: DA-RFIR and LC-CBA-RFIR methods. Pattern division multiple access (PDMA) is a new non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technology. It is proposed to meet the challenge of 5G large-scale connectivity and high-frequency spectral efficiency. Compared with traditional orthogonal multiple access (OMA), PDMA can support more users through the allocation of non-orthogonal resources. Due to perfect aperiodic correlation, complete complementary sequence (CCS) greatly improves the spectrum efficiency of the system. It has been widely used in wireless communication and radar sensing, and it still has research value in 5G. In order to apply the advantages of CCS to NOMA communication system, this paper proposes a system model of CCS spread spectrum coding based on PDMA. CCS is used as spread spectrum code to improve the performance of PDMA communication system. At the same time, on the basis of spread spectrum technology, this paper analyzes the average power allocation algorithm and water-filling power allocation algorithm, and a dynamic power allocation algorithm based on the transmission rate and practical application is proposed. The aim of the presented paper was to verify the impact of Dynamic PUCCH Resource Allocation Algorithm of the LTE cellular system on the maximum uplink cell throughput and call setup success rate - CSSR. Internet of Things (IoT) applications are connecting several Mobile Stations (MSs) to form the Mobile Communication Network (MCN). MSs are moving through macrocell and picocell recurrently due to the discontinuous deployment of the picocell over the macrocell. Each time they cross the cell boundary, they need to register with the Mobility Management Entity (MME). It incurs a high registration cost and elevates the signaling overhead ratio. To reduce the signaling overhead ratio, earlier techniques were attempted either by forming closed subscriber groups or by delaying the registration process, but that may create inconsistency in user location information. With this motivation, in this paper, MSs with similar mobility pattern which are moving from the picocell to macrocell, are grouped in clusters. A representative MS, called Cluster Representative (CR), performs the location management task on behalf of the whole cluster. The stochastic process has been employed to analyze the model. This study proposes Cluster-Based Location Management (CBLM) scheme and compares it with two state-of-the-art algorithms, named Group Mobility Management (GMM) and Closed Subscriber Group (CSG). It is expected that next-generation wireless networks will provide a plethora of mobile wireless services to users and ubiquitous network coverage at all times. Meeting these expected goals requires that new and existing networks be seamlessly integrated together to form Heterogeneous Wireless Networks (HWNs). Thus, seamless and efficient handover mechanisms are pertinent for optimal network performance in HWNs; so that the mobile user can switch from one access network to another, in search of the best connection for the demanded services. The HWNs' performance can be reduced, if efficient network selection is not achieved. In HWNs, network-selection decisions can be evaluated by using multi-criteria, or a single criterion. However, network selection and decision-making in HWNs often involves taking into account a large number of complex and conflicting network-decision factors, or criteria. Thus multi-criteria decision-making techniques are more efficient than single-criterion techniques. Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) techniques comprise of a developed branch of operational research for assisting in the resolution of complex decision-making problems. MCDM is an important tool that has been used to model and analyze handover-decisions and network-selection problems in HWNs. This paper reviews and classifies the most significant MCDM algorithms that have been used to address the network decision-making problems in HWNs in terms of algorithmic approach, the type of calls, the cardinality of decision criteria employed, handover-control points and the types of network utilities. Comprehensive step-wise mathematical implementations of the reviewed MCDM schemes are presented, while pointing out their strengths and limitations. This paper review fills a research gap in the investigation on network-selection criteria's interdependence and interactions, and their effects on criteria's weight of importance. It then provides an insight into the importance of network-criteria weighting and the current research trend in the application of MCDM algorithms to network-selection problems in HWNs. Because mobile ad hoc networks have characteristics such as lack of center nodes, multi-hop routing and changeable topology, the existing checkpoint technologies for normal mobile networks cannot be applied well to mobile ad hoc networks. Considering the multi-frequency hierarchy structure of ad hoc networks, this paper proposes a hybrid checkpointing strategy which combines the techniques of synchronous checkpointing with asynchronous checkpointing, namely the checkpoints of mobile terminals in the same cluster remain synchronous, and the checkpoints in different clusters remain asynchronous. This strategy could not only avoid cascading rollback among the processes in the same cluster, but also avoid too many message transmissions among the processes in different clusters. What is more, it can reduce the communication delay. In order to assure the consistency of the global states, this paper discusses the correctness criteria of hybrid checkpointing, which includes the criteria of checkpoint taking, rollback recovery and indelibility. Based on the designed Intra-Cluster Checkpoint Dependence Graph and Inter-Cluster Checkpoint Dependence Graph, the elimination rules for different kinds of checkpoints are discussed, and the algorithms for the same cluster checkpoints, different cluster checkpoints, and rollback recovery are also given. Experimental results demonstrate the proposed hybrid checkpointing strategy is a preferable trade-off method, which not only synthetically takes all kinds of resource constraints of Ad hoc networks into account, but also outperforms the existing schemes in terms of the dependence to cluster heads, the recovery time compared to the pure synchronous, and the pure asynchronous checkpoint advantage. The 5G mobile communication system is coming with a main objective, known also as IMT-2020, that intends to increase the current data rates up to several gigabits per second. To meet an accompanying demand of the super high-speed encryption, EIA and EEA algorithms face some challenges. The 3GPP standardization organization expects to increase the security level to 256-bit key length, and the international cryptographic field responds actively in cipher designs and standard applications. SNOW-V is such a proposal offered by the SNOW family design team, with a revision of the SNOW 3G architecture in terms of linear feedback shift register (LFSR) and finite state machine (FSM), where the LFSR part is new and operates eight times the speed of the FSM, consisting of two shift registers and each feeding into the other, and the FSM increases to three 128-bit registers and employs two instances of full AES encryption round function for update. It takes a 128-bit IV, employs 896-bit internal state and produces 128-bit keystream blocks. The result is competitive in pure software environment, making use of both AES-NI and AVX acceleration instructions. Thus, the security evaluation of SNOW-V is essential and urgent, since there is scarcely any definite security bound for it. In this paper, we propose a byte-based guess-and-determine attack on SNOW-V with complexity |$2^{406}$| using only seven keystream blocks. We first improve the heuristic guessing-path auto-searching algorithm based on dynamic programming by adding initial guessing set, which is iteratively modified by sieving out the unnecessary guessing variables, in order to correct the guessing path according to the cipher structure and finally launch smaller guessing basis. For the specific design, we split all the computing units into bytes and rewrite all the internal operations correspondingly. We establish a backward-clock linear equation system according to the circular construction of the LFSR part. Then we further simplify the equations to adapt to the input requirements of the heuristic guessing-path auto-searching algorithm. Finally, the derived guessing path needs modification for the pre-simplification and post-reduction. Confidentiality and integrity processes are based on SNOW and ZUC algorithms. These standardized algorithms are designed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for advanced mobile communication systems. Each algorithm has two S-boxes in its nonlinear layer structure. This paper proposes three different approaches to enhance the security level of both algorithms. The first approach aims to select the best combination of two S-boxes in the nonlinear part of each algorithm. Results showed that the best randomness properties are achieved by combining the Feistel structure (S1-box) and Rijndael (S2-box) in the SNOW algorithm and New Rijndael (S1-box) and Rijndael (S2-box) in the ZUC algorithm. The second approach aims to increase the nonlinearity and complexity of these algorithms by selecting a strong S-box to cascade the best-existing two S-boxes for both algorithms. The third approach is an extension of the former, based on a dynamic reform of such S-boxes as a function of the "Authentication Token" to increase the computational complexity of the upgraded two algorithms. The D2D cooperative communication technology can satisfy the communication wants of increasing the capacity of the cellular communication system and expanding the network coverage. Aiming at the problem that channel fading are greatly affecting some edge users and affecting the quality of service of users, this paper proposed a relay selection algorithm that leaded the auction principle into D2D cooperative communication. The algorithm first obtained the relay candidate set under the condition of satisfying the D2D communication requirement and the signal-to-noise ratio limitation. Then it selected the optimal relay node with the target of optimizing the link throughput. Finally, when two or more users selected the same superior relay,it allocated the final relay for D2D transmitting with auction principle. In intelligent transportation systems (ITSs), the communication between the base station (BS) and the vehicles can form a virtual multiple-input multiple-out put (VMIMO) vehicle communication system. This paper addresses the issue of channel estimation in a virtual MIMO system that simultaneously adopt a smart antenna (SA). First, based on quaternion theory, a novel algorithm named quaternion noncircular MUSIC (QNC-MUSIC) is proposed, and direction of arrival (DOA) estimation is achieved for circular and noncircular signals. Then, a dimension reduction procedure is performed for the parameter search by employing the partial derivative of the spectrum function with respect to the noncircular phase; thus, a novel dimensional reduction noncircular MUSIC (DRNC-MUSIC) algorithm with a low computational complexity is proposed for DOA and polarization estimation of circular signals and noncircular signals. The device-to-device (D2D) communication, as a high-speed communication from device to device, has attracted large researchers' attention recently. Namely, by using the D2D communication in the cellular networks, mobile users can transmit data to the adjacent users at a faster rate. As a result, a large part of cellular data traffic can be diverted, reducing the overhead of data transmission from the base station and saving the energy as well as improving the spectrum efficiency. However, in the heterogeneous networks where cellular and D2D communication coexists when the D2D devices are connected to the network, the network performance is not only affected by the slow and fast fading factors, but also by the access network selection strategy and network switching factors. With the aim to improve the network performance, this paper proposes a game theory-based D2D network access algorithm for heterogeneous networks. The proposed algorithm can adapt to the dynamic changes of the network environment while avoiding unnecessary switching by considering the properties of the user equipment and network utilization, and thus improving the network throughput and reducing the delay. In this paper, a novel scheme is proposed to optimize the effectiveness of the device-to-device (D2D) enabled vehicular communications (D2D-V), which are underlaid in cellular networks, where the uplink channel allocated to one cellular user (CU) is reused by the multiple D2D-V links. To develop a well-functioning D2D-V system, the sum rate of all D2D-V links is necessary to be maximized, and also the reliability of the co-channel CU to infrastructure has to be guaranteed with the CU interference constraint. Unlike the traditional statical D2D systems, the D2D-V system suffers with high mobility and channel uncertainty. Therefore, the CU interference constraint is formulated as a probabilistic function by the Bernstein approximation, the constraint attempts to address the mobile channel fluctuations. Besides, the tractable approximate constraint is reformulated as two separable structure, this reformulated constraint attempts to determine the near-optimal solutions more efficiently. Since the objective function with a logarithmic form is nonconvex, successive convex approximation is applied to transform the nonconvex problem into the convex problem. The dual decomposition is used to determine the near-optimal solutions. After the problem is reformulated, a distributed robust power control algorithm is proposed to perform the chance-constrained optimization. Numerical simulations are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. The simulation results show the impacts of system performance when applying the proposed scheme in vehicular environments with high mobility. How to stimulate the devices to participate is a key problem in the device-to-device (D2D) communications, especially when there are multiple base stations in practice. On one hand, the base station needs to lower the price to compete with other base stations for attracting more devices. On the other hand, the base station needs to increase the price to obtain more benefit. In this paper, we propose an optimal multiprincipal multiagent contract design to tackle such a challenge. Specifically, we formulate the multiprincipal contract design problem as a game theoretic optimization problem, where the objective of each principle (base station) through contract design is to maximize its overall utility obtaining from the trade with agents (devices) subject to the individual rationality and incentive compatibility constraints. By solving the game theoretic optimization problems, we can obtain the equilibrium contract where the contracts of different principals reach an equilibrium and any deviation from a single principal will lead to the degradation of its own utility. Moreover, under the equilibrium, both the individual rationality and incentive compatibility constraints are satisfied, i.e., all agents will choose the corresponding contract according to their types to reach the optimal nonnegative utilities. Simulation results show that compared with the monoprincipal contract design, both the utilities of devices and the social welfare can be improved with the multiprincipal contract design. Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is a promising scheme for the fifth generation (5G) of mobile communication systems. In this scheme, transmission to multiple users is performed on the same subchannel using superposition coding and successive interference cancellation. In this paper, we focus on a multi-cell network with two users’ data traffic models, namely elastic and streaming. We exploit the NOMA scheme in order to maximize the download elastic traffic rate at cells, without degrading the download streaming traffic rates. Since elastic traffic rates at different cells are interactive, we maximize the total elastic traffic rates assuming either perfect or partial channel state information available at each base station subject to a target rate for streaming users. Because of the interference due to NOMA as well as the interference among different cells, subchannel assignment and power allocation affect the system performance significantly. For this reason, we propose an iterative algorithm to jointly solve the subchannel assignment and the power allocation problem via the Hungarian algorithm and successive convex approximation, respectively. The exponential growth of mobile traffic means that operators must upgrade their mobile networks to provide higher capacity to final users. A promising alternative is to deploy heterogeneous networks (HetNets) that combine macro Base Stations (BSs) and SmallCells (SCs), although this increases the complexity and cost of the transport (SCs to Fiber Access Point–FAP). Most of the planning strategies outlined in the literature are aimed at reducing the number of SCs and ignore the impact that the transport segment might have on the total cost of network deployment. In this paper, heuristics are used for the joint planning of radio (i.e., SCs) and transport resources (i.e., point-to-point fiber links). These were compared and examined to determine the advantages and disadvantages of each approach, and in some cases, this led to a 50% reduction in total costs, while still creating a non-scalable network. Proximity user equipments (UEs) in mobile networks may be communicated directly without passing their traffic through the base station by using device-to-device (D2D) communications. This can be done using the underlaying approach in which the D2D-UEs (DEs) are allowed to use the same resources allocated for cellular UEs (CEs), which can enhance the spectral efficiency. However, if the resource allocation for DEs is not designed appropriately, it would generate harmful interference on CEs communications. Therefore, this paper addresses a resource allocation and power control problems for D2D communications underlaying multi-cell mobile networks with the consideration of the inter-cell and intra-cell interferences. The problem is formulated to maximise the network performance in terms of achieved throughput while ensuring the quality-of-service (QoS) constraints for CEs and DEs. A two-step algorithm is proposed in which the admission control is performed firstly to determine the set of possible D2D connections and their CE partners that achieve the minimum QoS demands. Then, the optimal power for each permissible DE and its possible partners in different cells are allocated to maximise the network throughput. Object detection plays an important role in intelligent transportation systems and intelligent vehicles. Although the topic of object detection has been studied for decades, it is still challenging to accurately detect objects under complex scenarios. The contributing factors for challenges include diversified object and background appearance, motion blur, adverse weather conditions, and complex interactions among objects. In this paper, we propose a new convolutional neural network (CNN) model for traffic object detection, by using multi-scale local and global feature representation (MFR). The proposed model consists of two components: a region proposal network that generates candidate object regions and an object detection network that incorporates multi-scale features and global information, namely MFR-CNN. These two components are jointly optimized. Once the system is trained, it can detect real-world traffic objects accurately, especially small objects and heavily occluded objects. Cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS) is envisaged as a powerful approach to improve the utilization of scarce radio spectrum resources, but it is threatened by Byzantine attack. Byzantine attack has been becoming a popular research topic in both academia and industry due to the demanding requirements of security. Extensive research mainly aims at mitigating the negative effect of Byzantine attack on CSS, but with some strong assumptions, such as attackers are in minority or trusted node(s) exist for data fusion, while paying little attention to a mobile scenario. This paper focuses on the issue of designing a general and reliable reference for CSS in a mobile network. Instead of the previously simplified attack, we develop a generic Byzantine attack model from sophisticated behaviors to conduct various attack strategies and derive the condition of which Byzantine attack makes the fusion center (FC) blind. Specifically, we propose a robust sequential CSS (SCSS) against dynamic Byzantine attack. Our proposed method solves the unreliability of the FC by means of delivery-based assessment to check consistency of individual sensing report, and innovatively reuses the sensing information from Byzantines via a novel weight allocation mechanism. Furthermore, trust value (TrV) ranking is exploited to proceed with a sequential test which generates a more accurate decision about the presence of phenomenon with fewer samples. Lastly, we carry out simulations on comparison of existing data fusion technologies and SCSS under dynamic Byzantine attack, and results verify the theoretical analysis and effectiveness of our proposed approach. To guarantee the road safety by avoiding collisions at the intersections is one of the major tasks of intelligent transportation systems (ITSs), which contributes to the minimal fatalities and property loss in crashes. This paper proposes an effective algorithm for infrastructure-cooperative intersection accident pre-warning system with the aid of vehicular communications. The proposed algorithm realizes accurate and efficient collision avoidances through five steps, i.e., defining variable, reasoning the vehicles evolution state, verifying safe driving behavior, assessing risk, and making decision. The critical factors are theoretically analyzed, and a vehicle state evolution model based on the Dynamic Bayesian Networks (DBNs) is established. The efficient risk assessment method based on identifying the dangerous driving behavior at intersection and different collision avoidance strategies are proposed according to the actual situation. Finally, extensive simulations are carried out to verify the performance of the proposal, and simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively detect risk and accurately migrate the collision. Rising user expectations are changing the way mobile operators manage their networks. In this paper, a self-tuning algorithm for adjusting parameters in a multiservice packet scheduler of a Long-Term Evolution base station is proposed to optimize the overall system Quality of Experience (QoE) based on network performance statistics. For this purpose, the algorithm iteratively changes service priority parameters to reprioritize services so as to make the most of available resources. The proposed algorithm ensures that the best overall system QoE is always reached by analyzing optimality conditions, unlike previous works, which only guarantee a minimum user satisfaction level or aim to balance QoE among services. Method assessment is carried out with a dynamic system-level simulator in a realistic service scenario. Community detection is the task of identifying clusters or groups of nodes in a network where nodes within the same group are more connected with each other than with nodes in different groups. It has practical uses in identifying similar functions or roles of nodes in many biological, social and computer networks. With the availability of very large networks in recent years, performance and scalability of community detection algorithms become crucial, i.e. if time complexity of an algorithm is high, it cannot run on large networks. In this paper, we propose a new community detection algorithm, which has a local approach and is able to run on large networks. It has a simple and effective method; given a network, algorithm constructs a preference network of nodes where each node has a single outgoing edge showing its preferred node to be in the same community with. In such a preference network, each connected component is a community. Selection of the preferred node is performed using similarity based metrics of nodes. We use two alternatives for this purpose which can be calculated in 1-neighborhood of nodes, i.e. number of common neighbors of selector node and its neighbors and, the spread capability of neighbors around the selector node which is calculated by the gossip algorithm of Lind et.al. Our algorithm is tested on both computer generated LFR networks and real-life networks with ground-truth community structure. It can identify communities accurately in a fast way. The diffusion of Device-to-Device (D2D) communications opens the door to exploit the contributions of multiple Mobile Devices (MDs) to accomplish collaborative tasks. In this paper a speaker recognition algorithm for MDs based on a multiple-observations approach is presented. We propose various fusion and clustering algorithms aimed at efficiently exploiting data coming from MDs. Certificateless-based signcryption overcomes inherent shortcomings in traditional Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Key Escrow problem. It imparts efficient methods to design PKIs with public verifiability and cipher text authenticity with minimum dependency. As a classic primitive in public key cryptography, signcryption performs validity of cipher text without decryption by combining authentication, confidentiality, public verifiability and cipher text authenticity much more efficiently than the traditional approach. In this paper, we first define a security model for certificateless-based signcryption called, Complex Conjugate Differential Integrated Factor (CC-DIF) scheme by introducing complex conjugates through introduction of the security parameter and improving secured message distribution rate. However, both partial private key and secret value changes with respect to time. To overcome this weakness, a new certificateless-based signcryption scheme is proposed by setting the private key through Differential (Diff) Equation using an Integration Factor (DiffEIF), minimizing computational cost and communication overhead. The scheme is therefore said to be proven secure (i.e. improving the secured message distributing rate) against certificateless access control and signcryption-based scheme. In this paper, a real-time LoRa modulation based data transmission application is achieved. The security of remotely transmitted data is not only provided with a basic encryption structure, but also a confirmation signal based transceiver system is designed in which the required process is performed only with a certain time interval. Firstly, the data to be transmitted is mixed with a secret key using XOR operation then transmitter creates a random period of time that specifies how long after the confirmation signal will be sent relative to the data signal. Hence, the entire system security is enhanced by the timing algorithm running with millisecond precision between the transceiver circuits. Encryption of the confirmation signal in a similar structure as the data signal improves security of the entire system. In this application, a PWM signal containing voltage information has been successfully transmitted in ciphered form using LoRa modulation. The designed algorithm for the receiver and transmitter circuits has been tested and verified in real time application. This paper explores reliable data fusion in mobile access wireless sensor networks under Byzantine attacks. We consider the q-out-of-m rule, which is popular in distributed detection and can achieve a good tradeoff between the miss detection probability and the false alarm rate. However, a major limitation with it is that the optimal scheme parameters can only be obtained through exhaustive search, making it infeasible for large networks. In this paper, first, by exploiting the linear relationship between the scheme parameters and the network size, we propose simple but effective sub-optimal linear approaches. Second, for better flexibility and scalability, we derive a near-optimal closed-form solution based on the central limit theorem. Third, subjecting to a miss detection constraint, we prove that the false alarm rate of q-out-of-m diminishes exponentially as the network size increases, even if the percentage of malicious nodes remains fixed. Finally, we propose an effective malicious node detection scheme for adaptive data fusion under time-varying attacks; the proposed scheme is analyzed using the entropy-based trust model, and shown to be optimal from the information theory point of view. This paper presents a ZigBee In-Patient Monitoring system embedded with a new ZigBee mobility management solution. The system enables ZigBee device mobility in a fixed ZigBee network. The usage, the architecture and the mobility framework are discussed in details in the paper. The evaluation shows that the new algorithm offers a good efficiency, resulting in a low management cost. In addition, the system can save lives by providing a panic button and can be used as a location tracking service. A case study focused on the Princes of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong is presented and findings are given. Unpredictable battery lifetime arising from multitasking can have a significant negative effect on availability for mobile devices. In practice, some applications are prioritized and required to remain in operation for certain duration. This paper suggests a battery lifetime guaranteeing scheme for prioritized applications in multitasking mobile systems. The proposed approach profiles and analyzes the battery usage pattern of each task dynamically, and preserves the energy budget for operation of prioritized tasks for a guaranteed time. In addition, this paper proposes an energyconstrained scheduler that limits the energy consumption of tasks while preserving scheduling patterns, which translates to the QoS. Wireless vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-toinfrastructure (V2I) communication holds great promise for significantly reducing the human and financial costs of vehicle collisions. A common characteristic of this communication is the broadcast of a device's core state information at regular intervals (e.g., vehicle speed and location or traffic signal state and timing). Unless controlled, the aggregate of these broadcasts will congest the channel under dense traffic scenarios, reducing the effectiveness of collision avoidance applications that use transmitted information. Active congestion control using distributed techniques is a topic of great interest for establishing the scalability of this technology. This paper defines a new adaptive congestion control algorithm that can be applied to the message rate of devices in this vehicular environment. While other published approaches rely on binary control, the LInear MEssage Rate Integrated Control (LIMERIC) algorithm takes advantage of full-precision control inputs that are available on the wireless channel. The result is provable convergence to fair and efficient channel utilization in the deterministic environment, under simple criteria for setting adaptive parameters. This “perfect” convergence avoids the limit cycle behavior that is inherent to binary control. We also discuss several practical aspects associated with implementing LIMERIC, including guidelines for the choice of system parameters to obtain desired utilization outcomes, a gain saturation technique that maintains robust convergence under all conditions, convergence with asynchronous updates, and using channel load to determine the aggregate message rate that is observable at a receiver. This paper also extends the convergence analysis for two important cases, i.e., measurement noise in the input signal and delay in the update process. In this paper, we study the problem of secure localization in Mobile Wireless Sensor Networks (MWSNs) where beacon nodes are not available. The location reference information is obtained from neighboring nodes within the commination rage of the target node, with the help of a relative location map. A Relative Location Map based Robust Positioning Algorithm (RLMRPA) for MWSNs is presented. The location estimate of the localizing node is formulated by constructing a distance measurement error model. Considering limited resources available, the steepest descent, which is fast and easy to implement, is employed to iteratively find the optimal solution. A 3- Farthest Neighbors Trilateral Localization Algorithm (3FNTLA) is presented to find the initial position. Considering that malicious neighbors tend to cause larger distance measurement errors and the further the neighbor, the larger the measurement error, an attack-resistant distance residue method is developed to neutralize the impact of inconsistent measurements. Our experiments show that the RLMRPA can perform secure location determination, even with some neighbors aiming at making the localization failed. SUMMARY The paper proposes a cooperative group location (CGL) scheme to solve the ill-conditioned location problem in mobile communication networks, which means that the mobile terminal (MT) has no sufficient signal resources from the networks to uniquely localize itself. On the basis of rigid graph theory, the unique solvability of the CGL scheme is completely proved in the theory in this paper. In CGL, it is assumed that the different MTs can directly communicate with each other in a peer-to-peer manner and form a terminal group (TG), which is propelled by some distinct characteristics of next-generation wireless networks such as ubiquitous inter-net and inter-communicating, device-to-device connectivity, and so on. When each MT in a TG has no sufficient signal resources, the CGL scheme makes it possible to accurately locate all the MTs in the TG. Two CGL-based location algorithms-improved Taylor-series iteration location algorithm and search and positioning algorithm, are presented in this paper. The numerical simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithms have higher positioning accuracy over traditional geometric location methods in ill conditions. The CGL scheme can effectively enhance the robustness and precision of localization and provide a novel idea to the positioning of MTs in next-generation mobile communication networks. The 5G wireless communication system supports varied applications, making the uplink/downlink traffic asymmetry more and more serious. Dynamic time division duplex (TDD) technique has become a key technology of 5G networks due to its flexibility to support asymmetric services. In this paper, we study dynamic TDD sub-frame reconfiguration algorithm based on shifting. Firstly, we define cell shifting priority considering both traffic and interference. Then, we perform cell shifting-based TDD sub-frame reconfiguration following cell shifting priority. The high-level contribution of this paper is an exhaustive simulation-based comparison study of three categories (density, node id and stability-based) of algorithms to determine connected dominating sets (CDS) for mobile ad hoc networks and evaluate their performance under two categories (random node mobility and grid-based vehicular ad hoc network) of mobility models. The CDS algorithms studied are the maximum density-based (MaxD-CDS), node ID-based (ID-CDS) and the minimum velocity-based (MinV-CDS) algorithms representing the density, node id and stability categories respectively. The node mobility models used are the Random Waypoint model (representing random node mobility) and the City Section and Manhattan mobility models (representing the grid-based vehicular ad hoc networks). The three CDS algorithms under the three mobility models are evaluated with respect to two critical performance metrics: the effective CDS lifetime (calculated taking into consideration the CDS connectivity and absolute CDS lifetime) and the CDS node size. Simulations are conducted under a diverse set of conditions representing low, moderate and high network density, coupled with low, moderate and high node mobility scenarios. For each CDS, the paper identifies the mobility model that can be employed to simultaneously maximize the lifetime and minimize the node size with minimal tradeoff. Small cells are introduced to cellular systems to enhance coverage and improve capacity. Densely deploying small cells can not only offload the traffic of macrocells but also provide an energy- and cost-efficient way to meet the sharp increase in traffic demands in mobile networks. However, such a cell deployment paradigm also leads to heterogeneous network (HetNet) infrastructure and raises new challenges for cell planning. In this paper, we study the cell planning issue in the HetNet. Our optimization task is to select a subset of candidate sites to deploy macro or small cells to minimize the total cost of ownership (TCO) or the energy consumption of the cellular system while satisfying practical constraints. We introduce approximation algorithms to cope with two different cell-planning cases, which are both NP-hard. First, we discuss the macrocell-only case. Our proposed algorithm achieves an approximation ratio of O(\log R) in this scenario, where R is the maximum achievable capacity of macrocells. Then, we introduce an O(\log \widetildeR)-approximation algorithm to the small-cell scenario, where \widetildeR is the maximum achievable capacity of a macrocell with small cells overlaid on it. This paper presents an algorithm to optimize the base position of a mobile manipulator to meet the requirements of local painting tasks. Considering the physical limits and singularity of the manipulator, the feasible base positions are first discretely calculated with the given poses of the end effector by inverse kinematics. Then, the joint-level performance criteria are proposed with respect to the requirements of the painting process. The weight coefficients are also determined by the critic method to balance the contribution of every criterion. Thus, the globally near-optimal base position is selected by sorting all feasible positions according to the evaluation criteria. The experimental results show that the planning result is well executed and has an acceptable computation time, thus demonstrating that the algorithm is both practical and effective compared with previous methods. In this paper, we propose a unified framework to generate a pleasant and high-quality street-view panorama by stitching multiple panoramic images captured from the cameras mounted on the mobile platform. Our proposed framework is comprised of four major steps: image warping, color correction, optimal seam line detection and image blending. Since the input images are captured without a precisely common projection center from the scenes with the depth differences with respect to the cameras to different extents, such images cannot be precisely aligned in geometry. Therefore, an efficient image warping method based on the dense optical flow field is proposed to greatly suppress the influence of large geometric misalignment at first. Then, to lessen the influence of photometric inconsistencies caused by the illumination variations and different exposure settings, we propose an efficient color correction algorithm via matching extreme points of histograms to greatly decrease color differences between warped images. After that, the optimal seam lines between adjacent input images are detected via the graph cut energy minimization framework. At last, the Laplacian pyramid blending algorithm is applied to further eliminate the stitching artifacts along the optimal seam lines. Experimental results on a large set of challenging street-view panoramic images captured form the real world illustrate that the proposed system is capable of creating high-quality panoramas. Abstract: The paper proposes a scheme on achieving all-IP communication between wireless sensor networks and IPv6 networks based on sensor nodes'' location information. The paper proposes the sensor node''s IPv6 address structure based on location information, the IPv6-address configuration algorithm based on the proposed IPv6 address structure, the mobility handoff algorithm and the routing algorithm in the link layer. The location information of sensor nodes is utilized to achieve the IPv6-address configuration algorithm and the routing algorithm. In the mobility handoff algorithm, neither does a mobile sensor node need a care-of address during the mobility process, nor is involved in the mobility handoff process. Therefore, a mobile sensor node''s power consumption is reduced and the life span is prolonged. This paper considers the problem of network-based mobile-phone positioning when multiple providers are available. This paper proposes two cross-provider localization algorithms via a cooperative approach, which are called linear regression (LR) and locally cooperative embedding (LCE), to efficiently exploit the complementary information from each network provider. The former chooses the provider weights that minimize the mean-square positioning errors. The latter dynamically embeds the cooperation and iteratively refines the positioning process according to each provider's local accuracy surrounding the user. This paper applies the proposed cross-provider positioning algorithms to actual Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) networks, using a dual-subscriber-identity-module (SIM) mobile phone connecting to multiple providers simultaneously. On-site experiments clearly demonstrated that the proposed cross-provider approaches provide better positioning accuracy than any individual provider, where LCE achieves the best performance. Smartphone positioning is an enabling technology used to create new business in the navigation and mobile location-based services (LBS) industries. This paper presents a smartphone indoor positioning engine named HIPE that can be easily integrated with mobile LBS. HIPE is a hybrid solution that fuses measurements of smartphone sensors with wireless signals. The smartphone sensors are used to measure the user's motion dynamics information (MDI), which represent the spatial correlation of various locations. Two algorithms based on hidden Markov model (HMM) problems, the grid-based filter and the Viterbi algorithm, are used in this paper as the central processor for data fusion to resolve the position estimates, and these algorithms are applicable for different applications, e.g., real-time navigation and location tracking, respectively. HIPE is more widely applicable for various motion scenarios than solutions proposed in previous studies because it uses no deterministic motion models, which have been commonly used in previous works. The experimental results showed that HIPE can provide adequate positioning accuracy and robustness for different scenarios of MDI combinations. HIPE is a cost-efficient solution, and it can work flexibly with different smartphone platforms, which may have different types of sensors available for the measurement of MDI data. In the era of mobile internet, Location Based Services (LBS) have developed dramatically. Seamless Indoor and Outdoor Navigation and Localization (SNAL) has attracted a lot of attention. No single positioning technology was capable of meeting the various positioning requirements in different environments. Selecting different positioning techniques for different environments is an alternative method. Detecting the users' current environment is crucial for this technique. In this paper, we proposed to detect the indoor/outdoor environment automatically without high energy consumption. The basic idea was simple: we applied a machine learning algorithm to classify the neighboring Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication cellular base station's signal strength in different environments, and identified the users' current context by signal pattern recognition. We tested the algorithm in four different environments. The results showed that the proposed algorithm was capable of identifying open outdoors, semi-outdoors, light indoors and deep indoors environments with 100% accuracy using the signal strength of four nearby GSM stations. This paper considers the localization problem in mobile sensor networks. Such a problem is a challenging task, especially when measurements exchanged between sensors may contain outliers, that is, data not matching the observation model. This paper proposes two algorithms robust to outliers. These algorithms perform a set-membership estimation, where only the maximal number of outliers is required to be known. Using these algorithms, estimates consist of sets of boxes whose union surely contains the correct location of the sensor, provided that the considered hypotheses are satisfied. This paper proposes as well a technique for evaluating the number of outliers to be robust to. In this paper, we propose an auto-tuning of mobility algorithm in the mobile communication systems as a load balancing self-optimization use case. This paper presents a distributed approach in which the traffic load can be balanced systematically by utilizing the effective load information of neighboring cells. The proposed load balancing scheme detects a load imbalance in the network and resolves the problem automatically by controlling the handover parameter as a nonlinear function of the load difference. Based on control theory, we analyze the adaptive behavior of the proposed controller and derive condition for system stability. Results from asymptotic analysis and simulation indicate that the proposed local controller of each individual cell effectively achieves the global properties, such that the load difference in the network is stabilized globally within a predetermined threshold. Smart antenna systems are used in a wide range of fixed and mobile communication applications. Generally smart antennas are made of antenna arrays and signal processors. The antenna array can have any kind of shape, from linear to circular or rectangular. For simplicity considerations in this paper we studied the linear antenna array. The main characteristic of a smart antenna system is the digital signal processing feature. The system processes the signals in order to obtain a desired radiation pattern. Dynamically allocating the available spectrum in the cognitive radio networks (CRN) where licensed users allow unlicensed users to make use of part of their allocated spectrum is a complex task. It requires, among others, that the interference generated by the CRN is well controlled. In this paper we address this problem for a particular type of interference constraints, in which the aggregated powers of the interference generated by the unlicensed network are required not to exceed certain thresholds. Traditional distributed “water filling” based spectrum allocation schemes are not well equipped to enforce such interference constraints. A natural extension to these algorithms involves penalizing each unlicensed user with a set of time-varying prices based upon its contribution to the total interference. In this context, the network is in equilibrium if: i) all interference constraints are satisfied; and ii) no unlicensed user has an incentive to alter its own transmission power levels. In this paper, we propose a distributed algorithm to compute such equilibrium in two distinctive network configurations: 1) the unlicensed users are mobile devices that communicate with a common access point; 2) the unlicensed users are tranceiver pairs. We show that our algorithm converges to a set of equilibria in the first scenario without restriction on the channel gains, and it converges to an equilibrium point in the second scenario under a relatively mild condition related to the channel gains. In this paper, a new method is proposed to identify and classify the data obtained by the sensor network (SN) for the detection of mines. This method is used for the identification of antitank and antipersonnel mines and classification of buried objects within a target region. In this paper, a mobile SN is used to detect mines and some other objects buried and creating magnetic anomaly in and around the region where they are found, with the behavior of the individual sensors swarming onto the area under which a mine or any other object is buried. The process of collecting data by the SN and modeling it mathematically are explained in detail. The SN is modeled as a fictitious two-dimensional spatial impulse sampler. This paper is motivated by clearing the territories of mine fields to open them to agriculture. It is very important because, currently, in some countries, very fertile territories around the borders are covered by buried mines. The approach is basically based on magnetic anomaly measurements, which directly tackles the subregions corresponding to buried objects whether they represent objects that are separately located or occluded by other objects. It is based on a new developed method that is called “the back-most object detection and identification algorithm.” This method is fully automatic, and there is no human intervention throughout the process. In this paper, classification of objects is based on their well-known shapes and dimensions. Therefore, there is no need for sophisticated learning algorithms to achieve classification. The experimental results are given both for detection and identification of a single mine and classification of a number of mines and any other objects that have a potential of giving false alarms in a target region. This paper deals with the wrench-feasible workspace (WFW) of n-degree-of-freedom parallel robots driven by n or more than n cables. The WFW is the set of mobile platform poses for which the cables can balance any wrench of a given set of wrenches, such that the tension in each cable remains within a prescribed range. Requirements of nonnegative cable tensions, as well as maximum admissible tensions, are thus satisfied. The determination of the WFW is an important issue since its size and shape are highly dependent on the geometry of the robot and on the ranges of allowed cable tensions. The approach proposed in this paper is mainly based on interval analysis. Two sufficient conditions are presented, namely, a sufficient condition for a box of poses to be fully inside the WFW and a sufficient condition for a box of poses to be fully outside the WFW. These sufficient conditions are relevant since they can be tested, with the means to test them being discussed in the paper. Used within usual branch-and-prune algorithms, these tests enable WFW determinations in which full-dimensional sets of poses (volumes) are found to lie within or, on the contrary, to lie outside the WFW. This provides a useful alternative to a basic discretization, the latter consisting of testing a discrete (zero-dimensional) finite set of poses. In order to improve the efficiency of the computations, a means to mitigate the undesirable effects of the so-called wrapping effect is introduced.
