Accurate thermodynamic stability predictions enable data-driven computational materials design. Standard density functional theory (DFT) approximations have limited accuracy with average errors of a few hundred meV/atom for ionic materials, such as oxides and nitrides. Thus, insightful correction schemes as given by the coordination corrected enthalpies (CCE) method, based on an intuitive parametrization of DFT errors with respect to coordination numbers and cation oxidation states, present a simple, yet accurate solution to enable materials stability assessments. Here, we illustrate the computational capabilities of our AFLOW-CCE software by utilizing our previous results for oxides and introducing new results for nitrides. The implementation reduces the deviations between theory and experiment to the order of the room temperature thermal energy scale, i.e., ∼25 meV/atom. The automated corrections for both materials classes are freely available within the AFLOW ecosystem via the AFLOW-CCE module, requiring only structural inputs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Metals in medicine is a distinct and mature field of investigation. Its progress in recent times cannot be denied, as it provides opportunities to advance our knowledge of the properties, speciation, reactivity and biological effects of metals in a medicinal context. The development of novel Pt(II) compounds to combat cancer continues to make valuable contributions but it has not yet achieved a complete cure. The chemistry of this field is basic for drug design improvements and our analysis of the chemical procedures is a practical tool for achieving effective Pt(II) anticancer drugs. We present chemical approaches in a manner that can be used to strategically plot new synthetic routes choosing right pathways. Clarifying the chemical challenge will help the scientific community to be aware of the ease and/or difficulty of the procedure before and after further studies, such as speciation, reactivity and biological action which are also very arduous and costly. The work provides information to tackle many challenges in chemistry, combining the knowledge on the Pt(II) reagent preparation together with the reactivity of the biological units used in the Pt(II) drug design. We discuss and include the description of the chemical reactions, the importance of multiple steps and the right order of such reactions to achieve the final drugs, analyzing the coordination principles as well as the organic and organometallic basis. This thorough study of the routes helps to detect the simpler or more complicated reactivity and will serve to improve the synthesis performance with possible post-modifications. Mobility hubs offer a strategic opportunity to enhance multimodal transportation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions within the transport sector. Identifying the spatial factors determinants influencing the usage of mobility hub components is essential for policymakers and transport planners aiming to identify their optimal locations. This study undertakes a systematic literature review and ranking of spatial factors associated with the usage of key on-demand services within mobility hub elements, including bike sharing, scooter sharing, car sharing, ride hailing and taxi and electric vehicle charging stations. Utilising databases such as Web of Science, Google Scholar and Francis & Taylor, we evaluated 119 records, identifying 39 key factors from social and built environments that are associated with usage of the on-demand elements. Key findings highlight the significance of population density, employment density, proximity to public transport, recreational POIs and household income, along with a noted negative association with the factor slope. This research contributes to exploring how these factors align across various on-demand mobility services that can be potentially used for policymakers, and transportation planners in evaluating potential strategies for the optimal allocation and development of mobility hubs. Contact sites between lipid droplets and other organelles are essential for cellular lipid and energy homeostasis. Detection of these contact sites at nanometer scale over time in living cells is challenging. Here, we developed a tool kit for detecting contact sites based on Fluorogen-Activated Bimolecular complementation at CONtact sites, FABCON, using a reversible, low affinity split fluorescent protein, splitFAST. FABCON labels contact sites with minimal perturbation to organelle interaction. Via FABCON, we quantitatively demonstrated that endoplasmic reticulum (ER)- and mitochondria (mito)-lipid droplet contact sites are dynamic foci in distinct metabolic conditions, such as during lipid droplet biogenesis and consumption. An automated analysis pipeline further classified individual contact sites into distinct subgroups based on size, likely reflecting differential regulation and function. Moreover, FABCON is generalizable to visualize a repertoire of organelle contact sites including ER-mito. Altogether, FABCON reveals insights into the dynamic regulation of lipid droplet-organelle contact sites and generates new hypotheses for further mechanistical interrogation during metabolic switch. Eukaryotic genomes exhibit a dynamic interplay between single-copy sequences and repetitive DNA elements, with satellite DNA (satDNA) representing a substantial portion, mainly situated at telomeric and centromeric chromosomal regions. We utilized Illumina next-generation sequencing data from Adalia bipunctata to investigate its satellitome. Cytogenetic mapping via fluorescence in situ hybridization was performed for the most abundant satDNA families. In silico localization of satDNAs was carried out using the CHRISMAPP (Chromosome In Silico Mapping) pipeline on the high-fidelity chromosome-level assembly already available for this species, enabling a meticulous characterization and localization of multiple satDNA families. Additionally, we analyzed the conservation of the satellitome at an interspecific scale. Specifically, we employed the CHRISMAPP pipeline to map the satDNAs of A. bipunctata onto the genome of Adalia decempunctata, which has also been sequenced and assembled at the chromosome level. This analysis, along with the creation of a synteny map between the two species, suggests a rapid turnover of centromeric satDNA between these species and the potential occurrence of chromosomal rearrangements, despite the considerable conservation of their satellitomes. Specific satDNA families in the sex chromosomes of both species suggest a role in sex chromosome differentiation. The fashion industry's traditional price-setting methods, based on historical sales and Fashion Week trends, are inadequate in the digital era. Rapid changes in collections and consumer preferences necessitate advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques. These AI methods should analyze data from various sources, including social media and e-commerce, to predict future fashion trends and prices. In this paper, we propose, apply, and assess a data analytics approach, i.e., FashionXpert, employing several image processing and machine learning techniques in an AI pipeline for garment price prediction. It integrates various heterogeneous data sources (e.g., textual and image data from e-stores, brand websites, and social media) to obtain more consistent, accurate, and beneficial information. We evaluated its effectiveness with an industrial data set obtained by a fashion search tool from the electronic commerce sites of clothing brands. The progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD) has a silent phase that predates characteristic cognitive decline and eventually leads to active cognitive deficits. Metabolism, diet, and obesity have been correlated to the development of AD but is poorly understood. The hypothalamus is a brain region that exerts homeostatic control on food intake and metabolism and has been noted to be impacted during the active phase of Alzheimer's disease. This study, in using an amyloid overexpression AppNL-G-F mouse model under normal metabolic conditions, examines blood markers in young and old male AppNL-G-F mice (n = 5) that corresponds to the silent and active phases of AD, and bulk gene expression changes in the hypothalamus and the hippocampus. The results show a large panel of inflammatory mediators, leptin, and other proteins that may be involved in weakening the blood brain barrier, to be increased in the young AppNL-G-F mice but not in the old AppNL-G-F mice. There were also several differentially expressed genes in both the hypothalamus and the hippocampus in the young AppNL-G-F mice prior to amyloid plaque formation and cognitive decline that persisted in the old AppNL-G-F mice, including GABRa2 receptor, Wdfy1, and several pseudogenes with unknown function. These results suggests that a larger panel of inflammatory mediators may be used as blood markers to detect silent AD, and that a change in leptin and gene expression in the hypothalamus exist prior to cognitive effects, suggesting a coupling of metabolism with amyloid plaque induced cognitive decline. Purpose: Despite mobilization is highly recommended in the ERAS® colorectal guideline, studies suggest that more than half of patients don't reach the daily goal of 360 min out of bed. However, data used to quantify mobilization are predominantly based on self-assessments, for which the accuracy is uncertain. This study aims to accurately measure postoperative mobilization in ERAS®-patients by validated motion data from body sensors. Methods: ERAS®-patients with elective bowel resections were eligible. Self-assessments and motion sensors (movisens: ECG-Move 4 and Move 4; Garmin: Vivosmart4) were used to record mobilization parameter from surgery to postoperative day 3 (POD3): Time out of bed, time on feet and step count. Results: 97 patients were screened and 60 included for study participation. Self-assessment showed a median out of bed duration of 215 min/day (POD1: 135 min, POD2: 225 min, POD3: 225 min). The goal of 360 min was achieved by 16.67% at POD1, 21.28% at POD2 and 20.45% at POD3. Median time on feet objectively measured by Move 4 was 109 min/day. During self-assessment, patients significantly underestimated their "time on feet"-duration with 85 min/day (p = 0.008). Median number of steps was 933/day (Move 4). Conclusion: This study confirmed with objectively supported data, that most patients don't reach the daily mobilization goal of 360 min despite being treated by an ERAS®-pathway with ERAS®-nurse. Even considering an empirically approximated underestimation, the ERAS®-target isn't achieved by more than 75% of patients. Therefore, we propose an adjustment of the general ERAS®-goals into more patient-centered, individualized and achievable goals. ABSTRACT Objective Method Results Conclusions Several studies have analyzed the relationship between Emotional Intelligence (EI) and dark personality, but the results are inconclusive. One study tested correlations between traits that may underlie a person‐centered profile of “dark EI.” Our study aimed to replicate and extend that research, identifying profiles in Spaniards and examining the differences between the profiles based on different variables of interest.Two studies were designed, the first one (N = 1241) focused on trait EI and the Dark Triad, and the second one expanding the previous (N = 392) focusing on ability EI and the Dark Tetrad.Three profiles were obtained in both studies: nondark and non‐EI profile, dark profile, and average narcissistic and high EI profile. The latter showed the highest self‐esteem, strengths, well‐being, and civic engagement, and the lowest psychological difficulties and personal distress.Our results reinforced the findings of the study we replicated, not supporting the presence of dark EI, but also not supporting the presence of high EI with very low levels of dark traits. The cognitive‐behavioral model of generalized Problematic Internet Use (PIU) is the theoretical approach that has obtained the most evidence on the study of this problem, which includes four components: Online Social Preference, Mood Regulation, Deficient Self‐Regulation, and Negative Outcomes. This study aimed to identify PIU profiles using Latent Profile Analysis, and to analyze the differences in them attending to some of the principal PIU risk and protective factors. A total of 675 Spanish adolescents completed questionnaires assessing PIU, Internet usage, mental health problems, personality, psychological strengths, and family relationships. Four profiles were obtained: Nonproblematic use (68.30% of the sample), Slightly problematic use (17.90% of the sample), Problematic use (8.50% of the sample), and Severe problematic use (5.40% of the sample). Results showed differences between them, with the profile with more PIU having more risk factors and less protective factors. Results showed that many different personal and social variables included in the study play a role in PIU. Knowing the different PIU profiles can help in the design of more specific and precise procedures and instruments for risk assessment, as well as aiding in prevention and in the design of more individualized treatments. Respiratory diseases in ruminants are responsible for enormous economic losses for the dairy and meat industry. The main causative bacterial agent of pneumonia in ovine is Mannheimia haemolytica A2. Due to the impact of this disease, the effect of the antimicrobial protein, bovine lactoferrin (bLf), against virulence factors of this bacterium has been studied. However, its effect on biofilm formation has not been reported. In this work, we evaluated the effect on different stages of the biofilm. Our results reveal a decrease in biofilm formation when bacteria were pre-incubated with bLf. However, when bLf was added at the start of biofilm formation and on mature biofilm, an increase was observed, which was visualized by greater bacterial aggregation and secretion of biofilm matrix components. Additionally, through SDS-PAGE, a remarkable band of ~80 kDa was observed when bLf was added to biofilms. Therefore, the presence of bLf on the biofilm was determined through the Western blot and Microscopy techniques. Finally, by using Live/Dead staining, we observed that most of the bacteria in a biofilm with bLf were not viable. In addition, bLf affects the formation of a new biofilm cycle. In conclusion, bLf binds to the biofilm of M. haemolytica A2 and affects the viability of bacteria and the formation a new biofilm cycle. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Gastric cancer (GC) is the fourth leading cause of cancer‐related death, associated with late diagnosis and treatment resistance. Currently, screening tests for GC are not cost‐effective or have low accuracy. Previously, we described an extended phenotype of gastric cancer stem cells (GCSCs; CD24+CD44+CD54+EpCAM+) that is associated with metastasis and tumor stage in GC patients. The goal of the current research is to evaluate the presence of these GCSCs in the peripheral blood of GC patients and healthy volunteers. A total of 73 blood samples were collected from 32 GC patients and 41 healthy volunteers. After peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) extraction, multiparametric flow cytometry was performed looking for GCSCs. Using clustering data through artificial intelligence (AI), we defined high/low levels of circulating GCSCs (cGCSCs) and proceeded to evaluate its association with clinical and prognostic variables. Finally, a diagnostic test analysis was performed evaluating patients and healthy volunteers. We found that cGCSCs are present in most GC patients with a mean concentration of 0.48%. The AI clustering showed two groups with different cGCSC levels and clinical characteristics. Through statistical analysis, we confirmed the association between cGCSC levels and lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, and overall survival. The diagnostic test analysis showed sensibility, specificity, and area under the curve (AUC) of 83%, 95%, and 0.911, respectively. Our results suggest that the assessment of cGCSCs CD24+CD44+CD54+EpCAM+ could be a potential noninvasive test, with prognostic value, as well as highly sensitive and specific for screening or diagnosis of GC; however, a larger scale study will be necessary to confirm this. The holographic Einstein–Maxwell-dilaton model is employed to map state-of-the-art lattice QCD thermodynamics data from the temperature (T) axis towards the baryon–chemical potential ( μ B ) axis and aims to gain a warm equation of state (EoS) of deconfined QCD matter which can be supplemented with a cool and confined part suitable for subsequent compact (neutron) star (merger) investigations. The model exhibits a critical end point (CEP) at T CEP = O (100) MeV and μ B CEP = 500 ... 700 MeV with an emerging first-order phase transition (FOPT) curve which extends to large values of μ B without approaching the μ B axis. We consider the impact and peculiarities of the related phase structure on the EoS for the employed dilaton potential and dynamical coupling parameterizations. Mannheimia haemolytica is the main etiological bacterial agent in ruminant respiratory disease. M. haemolytica secretes leukotoxin, lipopolysaccharides, and proteases, which may be targeted to treat infections. We recently reported the purification and in vivo detection of a 110 kDa Zn metalloprotease with collagenase activity (110-Mh metalloprotease) in a sheep with mannheimiosis, and this protease may be an important virulence factor. Due to the increase in the number of multidrug-resistant strains of M. haemolytica, new alternatives to antibiotics are being explored; one option is lactoferrin (Lf), which is a multifunctional iron-binding glycoprotein from the innate immune system of mammals. Bovine apo-lactoferrin (apo-bLf) possesses many properties, and its bactericidal and bacteriostatic effects have been highlighted. The present study was conducted to investigate whether apo-bLf inhibits the secretion and proteolytic activity of the 110-Mh metalloprotease. This enzyme was purified and sublethal doses of apo-bLf were added to cultures of M. haemolytica or co-incubated with the 110-Mh metalloprotease. The collagenase activity was evaluated using zymography and azocoll assays. Our results showed that apo-bLf inhibited the secretion and activity of the 110-Mh metalloprotease. Molecular docking and overlay assays showed that apo-bLf bound near the active site of the 110-Mh metalloprotease, which affected its enzymatic activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Gastric cancer (GC) is a leading cause of death, and this pathology often receives a diagnosis in an advanced stage. The development of a less invasive and cost-effective test for detection is essential for decreasing the mortality rate and increasing the life expectancy of GC patients. We evaluated the potential targeting of CD54/ICAM1, a marker of gastric cancer stem cells, with miRNAs to detect GC in blood samples. The analyses included 79 blood samples, 38 from GC patients and 41 from healthy donors, who attended INCan, México City. The total RNA was obtained from the blood plasma, and RT-PCR and qPCR were performed to obtain the relative expression of each miRNA. Hsa-miR-335-5p was detected in the plasma of GC patients and healthy donors at the same levels. The ROC curve analyses indicated that this miRNA was not a candidate for the molecular diagnosis of GC. We did not observe a correlation between the expression of hsa-miR-335-5p and clinical variables; however, the Kaplan–Meier analyses indicated that, in patients who survived more than 12 months, a lower expression of hsa-miR-335-5p was correlated with a better prognosis. It would be convenient to evaluate a larger panel of miRNAs, including miRNAs expressed in a limited number of cell types or with a low number targets, to obtain more specific candidates for developing a robust test for the diagnosis/prognosis of GC. The Lilac-crowned Amazon (Amazona finschi) is an endemic parrot from western Mexico with a historical distribution in the Pacific Slope from southern Sonora and southwestern Chihuahua to Oaxaca. However, a particularly worrying decline in the extension of its distribution range has been reported in the central and southern regions. Overall, the species is listed in CITES the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, and the official Mexican standard NOM-059 as endangered. In this study, we aimed to obtain molecular information to support the planning of conservation strategies for A. finschi. For this purpose, we analyzed the genetic diversity and genealogical relationships between two groups of individuals from northern (Sinaloa) and central (Michoacan) portions of the species' range based on mitochondrial DNA markers. In general agreement with the endangered status of the species, we found low genetic diversity values. However, at the regional level, the northern group showed high genetic diversity and the central group showed a lack of genetic diversity. Furthermore, in agreement with the proposal that A. finschi is monotypic, genealogical relationships revealed a haplotype distributed in the center and the north, although haplotypes exclusive to the north were also found. This article's objective is to analyse the birth and development of the People with Physical Disabilities Movement in late Francoist Spain and the democratic transition. To that end, this work is based on qualitative research, based on 12 in-depth interviews, carried out with people with innate or acquired physical disabilities, from different regions of Spain, and born between 1938 and 1960. The participants selected for this work have been especially involved in the People with Physical Disabilities Movement in Spain since the sixties and seventies until today, from a total of 26 informants sources. These testimonies, always used anonymously, will be completed with reference works on the issues discussed, as well as other primary sources. This article analyses the birth of the Movement of People with Physical Disabilities in Spain during the late Francoism and the transition to democracy, from the 1960s to the early 1980s. This article delves into the life stories of 26 individuals with physical disabilities born between 1938 and 1960. Together with other social movements, people with physical disabilities were able to coordinate themselves in the late Francoism in order to create a new social movement to improve their living conditions. By giving voice to its protagonists and their experiences, the research seeks to understand more profoundly the basis and the -development of the Movement of People with Physical Disabilities in Spain. Background: Spiritual, metaphysical, or eschatological elements in delusions (SMEDs) are frequent and often subjectively regarded as profound transformational experiences, similar to mystical experiences. This study aimed (1) to explore how SMEDs are experienced and in which aspects they are similar to mystical experiences and (2) to investigate how individuals make sense of SMED. Methods: Seven participants were interviewed, and their expressions were analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Results: We found that SMEDs were similar to mystical experiences with regard to alterations in perception of space, time, and unity. Furthermore, SMEDs were accompanied by a sense of enlightenment that however remained ineffable. SMEDs were interpreted from different viewpoints, i.e., as a source of ontological insight, as a mental health issue, as an inspiration for a new orientation in the world, and, for some participants, as an example of the limits of knowledge. Making sense of SMED appeared to follow a lively internal dialogue in which various, sometimes contradictory positions were reflected upon. Participants usually struggled to align the ostensible ontological significance of SMED to the dominating illness explanation. Conclusion: SMEDs have similarities to mystical experiences, but integrating SMED into one’s own life is challenging. We propose a philosophical, non-pathological interpretation of SMED derived from a novel perspective on mystical experience which may also have some therapeutic utility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of Spanish literacy precursor skills on reading learning to read in the mother tongue and their degree of transfer to English. A quasi-experimental design was used, which allowed for a repeated measures comparison between two groups of students, who underwent a follow-up assessment one year after the end of the intervention. A total of 386 schoolchildren, aged 6–7 years at the time of the intervention, who were beginning to learn to read, participated in the study. The results show that the implementation of teaching models that favor the development of precursor reading skills in a first language, such as Spanish, contribute to the literacy process in a second language such as English, and that the benefits acquired are maintained over time. Purpose: This ex vivo study aimed to compare a newly developed dual-source photon-counting CT (PCCT) with a 3rd generation dual-source dual-energy CT (DECT) for the detection and measurement (stone lengths and volumetrics) of urinary stones. Methods: 143 urinary stones with a known geometry were physically measured and defined as reference values. Next, urinary stones were placed in an anthropomorphic abdomen-model and were scanned with DECT and PCCT. Images were read by two experienced examiners and automatically evaluated using a specific software. Results: DECT and PCCT showed a high sensitivity for manual stone detection of 97.9% and 94.4%, and for automatic detection of 93.0% and 87.4%, respectively. Compared to that uric acid and xanthine stones were recognized slightly worse by DECT and PCCT with manual stone detection (93.3% and 82.2%), and with automatic detection (77.8% and 60.0%). All other stone entities were completely recognized. By comparing the maximum diameter of the reference value and DECT, Pearson-correlation was 0.96 (p < 0.001) for manual and 0.97 (p < 0.001) for automatic measurement, and for PCCT it was 0.94 (p < 0.001) for manual and 0.97 (p < 0.001) for automatic measurements. DECT and PCCT can also reliably determine volume manually and automatically with a Pearson-correlation of 0.99 (p < 0.001), respectively. Conclusion: Both CTs showed comparable results in stone detection, length measurement and volumetry compared to the reference values. Automatic measurement tends to underestimate the maximum diameter. DECT proved to be slightly superior in the recognition of xanthine and uric acid stones. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A series of nine new soft salts based on two platinum(II) complexes, namely ([Pt(C^N)(CN)2]−[Pt(C^N)(en)]+) (en = ethane-1,2-diamine), has been developed and synthesized. Their photophysical properties in both solution and the solid state were described. All soft salt complexes exhibit phosphorescence emission with PLQY in the solid state up to 0.36. Most of these materials displayed aggregation-induced emission (AIE) or aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) in water/DMSO solutions as the water ratio increased. Structure–property relationships were analyzed in relation to emission properties. The presence of the free nitrogen atoms in soft salt complexes with a C^N pyrimidine-based ligand allowed for reversible sensitivity to acidic vapors, resulting in the quenching of phosphorescence emission. Additionally, for selected soft salts, we described reversible vapochromism behaviour, making these new materials interesting for multi-detection purposes in anti-counterfeiting applications. Heterodox ideas face an uphill battle. This is not least the case for heterodox conspiracy theories. As an empirical observation, this is hardly controversial. What is controversial is whether and to what extent this should be the case. Some authors have gone so far as to argue that heterodox conspiracy theories should be generally dismissed, and that it is precisely their heterodox status that justifies such dismissal. Most particularists are likely to object strongly to such an assessment, arguing that conspiracy theories – whether heterodox or orthodox – should not be dismissed before careful examination of the relevant evidence. But even particularists will probably concede that proponents of heterodox conspiracy theories have to bear a special epistemic burden. The main aim of this paper is to take a closer look at this particular epistemic burden. Drawing on the literature about peer disagreement, genealogical debunking arguments, and related philosophical debates, I focus in particular on the question of whether and under what conditions it can be rational to defend heterodox conspiracy theories, and argue that what I will call theories of error play a crucial role in this context. Disinformation in the medical field is a growing problem that carries a significant risk. Therefore, it is crucial to detect and combat it effectively. In this article, we provide three elements to aid in this fight: 1) a new framework that collects health-related articles from verification entities and facilitates their check-worthiness and fact-checking annotation at the sentence level; 2) a corpus generated using this framework, composed of 10335 sentences annotated in these two concepts and grouped into 327 articles, which we call KEANE (faKe nEws At seNtence lEvel); and 3) a new model for verifying fake news that combines specific identifiers of the medical domain with triplets subject-predicate-object, using Transformers and feedforward neural networks at the sentence level. This model predicts the fact-checking of sentences and evaluates the veracity of the entire article. After training this model on our corpus, we achieved remarkable results in the binary classification of sentences (check-worthiness F1: 0.749, fact-checking F1: 0.698) and in the final classification of complete articles (F1: 0.703). We also tested its performance against another public dataset and found that it performed better than most systems evaluated on that dataset. Moreover, the corpus we provide differs from other existing corpora in its duality of sentence-article annotation, which can provide an additional level of justification of the prediction of truth or untruth made by the model. Combined thrombophilia represents 7.8– 8.3% of the patients with thrombophilia and confers a higher risk for thrombosis development and recurrence. Here, we present a 17-year-old boy carrier of three congenital thrombophilias, two severe (type I antithrombin deficiency and type I protein S deficiency) and one prothrombotic polymorphism (prothrombin G20210A), all in heterozygosis. He developed an extensive deep venous thrombosis in lower left limb, reaching proximal inferior vena cava and contralateral iliac vein, in the setting of prolonged rest. Endovascular therapy with local thrombolytic agent infusion followed by mechanical thrombectomy was performed, achieving a favorable clinical and radiological evolution. Antithrombin replacement to achieve levels between 80% and 120% with heparin administration was used during the endovascular procedure. The patient is currently asymptomatic and maintains indefinite anticoagulation with warfarin, keeping an appropriate anticoagulation range (international normalized range between 2.5 and 3.5). Ibuprofen (IBP) has demonstrated its toxicological potential toward aquatic biota: affecting microalgae and their nutritional value and altering the population growth of algae-feeding zooplankters. This study assessed the effect of a) IBP sublethal concentrations, and b) three different algal densities (Nannochloropsis oculata at 0.25, 0.50, and 1.00 × 106 cells/mL) on Alona guttata and Lecane papuana. We determined LC50 values for both species (63.476 mg/L and 12.053 mg/L, respectively), and then five sublethal concentrations (based on their respective LC50) were chosen to assess population growth effects. Survival and fertility of A. guttata were affected at the two highest concentrations tested, diminishing population growth, but seemed non-affected by the algal density. In contrast, L. papuana was significantly affected by both factors, IBP and algal concentrations, showing higher sensitivity to IBP at the lowest algal density (EC50 = 0.524 mg/L) in comparison to those organisms fed on 1 × 106 cells/mL (EC50 = 3.097 mg/L). Discussion considered the availability of energy in terms of algal density, the possible biomagnification of IBP from algae to zooplankters, and the algae-mediated biotransformation and removal of IBP. This article provides a review of the work carried out in Colombia on small area estimation. It considers initiatives of an academic nature, mainly originating from universities, as well as initiatives focused on generating offcial statistics from public offices and private companies in the country. The objective of the work is to update the interested reader on the progress of this methodology in the country and to encourage the community to deepen into the analysis and publication of content on small area estimation. Magneto‐ionics, as the electrochemical reconfiguration of magnetic materials at low gating voltages, is a highly energy‐efficient alternative to control magnetism. For the fastest magneto‐ionic concept based on hydrogen, fundamental mechanisms are currently under debate, mainly because quantitative compositional information inside the magnetic materials upon gating is lacking. Using the electrochemical hydrogen loading of Co/Pd multilayers with perpendicular anisotropy, this study demonstrates that the hydrogen concentration inside the magnetic material determines its magnetic properties. Hydrogen concentrations up to a maximum of (0.24 ± 0.01) hydrogen atoms per metal atom can be set deterministically by voltage and are quantified via flow‐cell coulometry. With increasing hydrogen concentration, a continuous increase in coercivity of up to 15% and a decrease in magnetic domain‐wall velocity by an order of magnitude are observed using in situ MOKE microscopy. This enables the voltage‐controlled stop‐and‐go of domain walls. These magneto‐ionic effects can be explained by an increasing perpendicular anisotropy with increasing hydrogen content in Co/Pd multilayers, which is supported by theory. Importantly, the approach should be transferable to other ionic systems, such as lithium‐ or oxygen‐based ones, where it can uncover the yet hidden effects of ionic concentration on the magnetic properties and guide the design of functional magneto‐ionic devices. The repercussions of the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus over recent years have posed an unprecedented challenge for the whole of society, affecting the well-being of everyone. Among all the variables affected in relation to well-being, Anxiety, Emotional Intelligence, and Effective Personality (Self-Esteem, Academic Self-Realisation, Resolute Self-Efficacy, Social Self-Realisation) have been highlighted. The aim of this study is to assess the evolution of those variables across three temporal phases: pre-pandemic, during the pandemic, and up until the end of the study in April 2022. A study was conducted during these temporal phases with three cohorts from Spanish Universities. The cohorts were formed of people assessed for Anxiety (660 pre-pandemic, 460 during the pandemic, and 311 at the end of the study), Emotional Intelligence (355 pre-pandemic, 91 during the pandemic, 311 at the end of the study), and Effective Personality (708 pre-pandemic, 174 in 2018, 311 at the end of the study). Anxiety was assessed with the State–Trait Anxiety Inventory, Emotional Intelligence with the Trait Meta-Mood Scale and TMMS-24, and Effective Personality with the Cuestionario Personalidad Eficaz-Universidad (the Effective Personality Questionnaire-University). The results showed a rise in the state of anxiety during COVID-19, with a subsequent reduction two years into the pandemic; however, anxiety rates remained higher than before the pandemic. Emotional intelligence increased in the emotional attention factor, but diminished as regards both clarity and regulation. Effective Personality was at lower levels for all factors (Self-Esteem, Academic Self-Realisation, Resolute Self-Efficacy, Social Self-Realisation). The main conclusion was the need for assistance with the dimensions under study, in order to improve the well-being of university students after the serious effects caused by COVID-19. Rural areas have often been labelled by the literature as 'left-behind' areas or 'places that don't matter', implicitly suggesting that residents of these communities feel neglected by political elites. This article studies the rural-urban divide in external political efficacy, which reflects individuals' beliefs about the responsiveness of political elites, while also examining if compositional and contextual factors can explain such a divide. Drawing on data from the European Social Survey, the results reveal a significant rural-urban gap in external efficacy, which is partly explained by differences in the sociodemographic characteristics of rural and urban dwellers, but not by disparities in their evaluation of the provision of basic public services. Notably, this rural-urban gap in external efficacy is substantively smaller in those countries with higher levels of electoral malapportionment that lead to an overrepresentation of rural areas in national parliaments. Here, a comprehensive cytogenetic analysis of three species of tenebrionid beetles: Alphitobius diaperinus, Tenebrio molitor and Zophobas morio, is presented. This paper also contains a review of the cytogenetic information for each species and adds new data. The male karyotype of both T. molitor and Z. morio is 2n = 18 + Xyp, with large heterochromatic blocks in the pericentromeric regions of all chromosomes. The male A. diaperinus karyotype is 2n = 18 + X0, also with heterochromatic pericentromeric regions in all chromosomes. The location of the nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) differs in each species: in A. diaperinus, it is located on the smallest pair of autosomes, while in T. molitor, it is on two pairs of autosomes and both sex chromosomes. In contrast, it is exclusively located on the X chromosome in Z. morio. Telomere analysis revealed that all species have TCAGG repeats in their telomeres, but lack the canonical TTAGG insect telomeric motif. In addition, a study of the distribution of satellite DNA and composition revealed that each species has a main satellite DNA family forming the pericentromeric heterochromatin. Fluorescence in situ hybridization of each of these satellites did not produce hybridization signal in the other two species, indicating a divergence in repetitive DNA composition among them. This study adds to the understanding of chromosomal organization, heterochromatin distribution and repetitive DNA dynamics in tenebrionid beetles and sheds light on their cytogenetic diversity and evolutionary significance. Imagining natural scenes enables us to engage with a myriad of simulated environments. How do our brains generate such complex mental images? Recent research suggests that cortical alpha activity carries information about individual objects during visual imagery. However, it remains unclear if more complex imagined contents such as natural scenes are similarly represented in alpha activity. Here, we answer this question by decoding the contents of imagined scenes from rhythmic cortical activity patterns. In an EEG experiment, participants imagined natural scenes based on detailed written descriptions, which conveyed four complementary scene properties: openness, naturalness, clutter level and brightness. By conducting classification analyses on EEG power patterns across neural frequencies, we were able to decode both individual imagined scenes as well as their properties from the alpha band, showing that also the contents of complex visual images are represented in alpha rhythms. A cross-classification analysis between alpha power patterns during the imagery task and during a perception task, in which participants were presented images of the described scenes, showed that scene representations in the alpha band are partly shared between imagery and late stages of perception. Home range and home range overlap can be used to describe use of space and movement of wildlife. During the last years, advancements in technology have greatly improved our understanding of animal movement, especially among large herbivores. Wild ungulate abundance and distribution have increased in temperate areas. Moreover, their diseases—including sarcoptic mange in the Iberian Ibex (Capra pyrenaica)—have become a cause of concern for livestock, public health, and wildlife conservation. In this study, we first reviewed existing literature on the home range of species in the genus Capra. We then analyzed data from 52 GPS-GSM-collared Iberian ibexes, of which 33 were healthy and 19 were affected by sarcoptic mange from 3 different populations in the southeastern Iberian Peninsula to analyze: (1) differences in size and characteristics of home ranges obtained by the 3 most commonly used methodologies—minimum convex polygon, kernel density estimation, and Brownian bridges movement models (BBMMs); and (2) the impact of endemic sarcoptic mange on Iberian Ibex home range. The literature review revealed that available information on spatial behavior of Capra spp. was based only on 3 species, including the Iberian Ibex, estimated through a diversity of methods which made it difficult to compare results. We found positive correlations among the different home range estimation methods in the Iberian Ibex, with BBMMs proving to be the most accurate. This study is the first to use BBMMs for estimating home range in this species, and it revealed a marked seasonal behavior in spatial use, although sarcoptic mange smoothed such seasonal pattern. The seasonal overlaps obtained suggest that core areas of the Iberian Ibex change within wider home range areas, which are ecological parameters relevant to identifying key areas for species management and conservation. Cantor argued that absolute infinity is beyond mathematical comprehension. His arguments imply that the domain of mathematics cannot be grasped by mathematical means. We argue that this inability constitutes a foundational problem. For Cantor, however, the domain of mathematics does not belong to mathematics, but to theology. We thus discuss the theological significance of Cantor's treatment of absolute infinity and show that it can be interpreted in terms of negative theology. Proceeding from this interpretation, we refer to the recent debate on absolute generality and argue that the method of diagonalization constitutes a modern version of the vianegativa. On our reading, negative theology can evoke an attitude of humility with respect to the boundedness of the human condition. Background: Psychological distress is a predictor of future health and disease data, with consequent implications for both the patient and the healthcare system. Taking advantage of the unprecedented situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic we aimed to assess whether the type of medical care received by patients during the initial months of the pandemic influenced their evolution, particularly at the psychological level. Additionally, we investigated whether allostatic load was associated not only with physical but also psychological alterations. Methods: All the patients diagnosed with COVID-19 infection at HM Madrid Hospital during the month of March 2020 were studied, both those hospitalized (110) and those treated on an outpatient basis (46). They were psychologically evaluated using the Profile of Mood States (POMS) test. We calculated the allostatic load using different laboratory parameters. Results: Outpatient patients had significantly higher scores than hospitalized ones in Tension-Anxiety (52 ± 19.3 vs. 38 ± 4.3; p < 0.001). So, 36.9% of the outpatient patients exhibited anxiety. Allostatic load has not been correlated with patients' psychological alterations. Conclusions: Psychological distress of outpatient patients should be taken into account in their management to improve mental health planning. This knowledge could provide comprehensive care to patients including their mental health, in the face of subsequent epidemics/pandemics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ketosis is currently regarded as a major metabolic disorder of dairy cows, reflective of the animal's efforts to adapt to energy deficit while transitioning into lactation. Currently viewed as a pathology by some, ketosis is associatively implicated in milk production losses and peripartal health complications that increase the risk of early removal of cows from the herd, thus carrying economic losses for dairy farmers and jeopardizing the sustainability of the dairy industry. Despite decades of intense research in the mitigation of ketosis and its sequelae, our ability to lessen its purported effects remains limited. Moreover, the association of ketosis to reduced milk production and peripartal disease is often erratic and likely mired by concurrent potential confounders. In this review, we discuss the potential reasons for these apparent paradoxes in the light of currently available evidence, with a focus on the limitations of observational research and the necessary steps to unambiguously identify the effects of ketosis on cow health and performance via controlled randomized experimentation. A nuanced perspective is proposed that considers the dissociation of ketosis—as a disease—from healthy hyperketonemia. Furthermore, in consideration of a growing body of evidence that highlights positive roles of ketones in the mitigation of metabolic dysfunction and chronic diseases, we consider the hypothetical functions of ketones as health-promoting metabolites and ponder on their potential usefulness to enhance dairy cow health and productivity. This qualitative study aims to analyse the personal qualification, attitudes and the pedagogical concepts of German teachers as experts in their profession regarding basic life support (BLS) education in secondary schools. Thirteen (n = 13) secondary school teachers participated in semi-structured expert interviews and were interviewed for at least 20 to 60 min regarding BLS student education. Interviews were semi-structured with guiding questions addressing (1) personal experience, (2) teacher qualification for BLS and (3) implementation factors (e.g., personal, material and organisational). Audio-recorded interviews were analysed by content analysis, generating a coding system. School teachers provided a heterogeneous view on implementation-related processes in BLS education. Many teachers were educated in first aid, acknowledge its importance, but had no experience in teaching BLS. They want to assure being competent for teaching BLS and need tailored trainings, materials, pedagogical information and the incorporation into the curriculum. Also, the management of time constraints, unwilling colleagues, or young students being overwhelmed were commonly mentioned considerations. Concluding, teachers reported to be willing to teach BLS but a stepwise implementation framework incorporating practice-oriented qualification and educational goals is missing. The rational fertilisation of olive trees, based on adding exclusively the nutrients that are actually needed, is important from both the economic and environmental sustainability points of view. This paper employs UAV-obtained multispectral data collected from five different orchards located in Southern Spain to build a set of models for the prediction of the leaf nutrient content of olive trees using Support Vector Regression. The paper shows the convenience of addressing the problem as a Multiple Instance Regression, and compares two strategies of data aggregation and different choices of feature vectors derived from the raw multispectral data. The models provided good results for N, P and K (r 2 = 0.76, r 2 = 0.87 and r 2 = 0.91, respectively for the Hojiblanca model, and r 2 = 0.79, r 2 = 0.80 and r 2 = 0.80 for the Picual model). The rest of nutrients studied also offered good results for both the Picual and Hojiblanca models, ranging from r 2 = 0.69 for B to r 2 = 0.93 for Cu. The results indicate a robust performance of the models and a potential for improvement with the addition of more data, along with an advantage of considering individual models for each cultivar variety. Overall, these results are very promising for the estimation of the leaf nutrient content of olives trees and the detection of spatial variability in the fertilisation needs of orchards. Air pollution, particularly from particulate matter (PM2.5) and black carbon (eBC), has been implicated in airway pathologies. This study aims to assess the relationship between exposure to these pollutants and respiratory function in various populations, including healthy individuals, while seeking an accurate assessment method. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Bogotá, evaluating respiratory function in the users of bicycles, minivans, and buses through spirometry and impulse oscillometry. Measurements were taken along two main avenues, assessing the PM2.5 and eBC concentrations. The results reveal higher pollutant levels on AVE KR 9, correlating with changes in oscillometry values post-travel. Cyclists exhibited differing pre- and post-travel values compared to bus and minivan users, suggesting aerobic exercise mitigates pollutant impacts. However, no statistically significant spirometry or impulse oscillometry variations were observed among routes or modes. Public transport and minivan users showed greater PM2.5 and eBC exposure, yet no significant changes associated with environmental contaminants were found in respiratory function values. These findings underscore the importance of further research on pollutant effects and respiratory health in urban environments, particularly concerning different transport modes. Background: Intrinsic capacity (IC) is defined as "all the physical and mental attributes possessed by the older person." This concept has gained momentum in recent years because it provides insights into the changes in the functional capacity of individuals during their life. This study examined common factors associated with IC decline among older adults in Mexico and Colombia. Methods: This cross-sectional, correlational study included 348 community-dwelling older adults. Sociodemographic, clinical, and family conditions were assessed as possible associated factors, and IC was analyzed across five domains: cognitive, locomotor, psychological, vitality (malnutrition through deficiency and excess), and sensory (visual and auditory). Parametric and non-parametric statistical analyses were performed. Results: The common factors associated with impairment according to domain were family dysfunctionality (cognitive domain); myocardial infarction, family dysfunctionality, age >80 years, home occupation, and not having a partner (locomotor domain); dysfunctional family and risk of falls (psychological domain); age >80 years and not having a partner (malnutrition by deficiency domain); age 60-79 years, walking <7,500 steps/day, and peripheral vascular disease (malnutrition by excess domain); risk of falling and being female (visual sensory domain); risk of falling (auditory sensory domain); and dysfunctional family and risk of falling (total intrinsic capacity). Numerous chemical constraints have been possible for exoplanetary atmospheres thanks to high-resolution spectroscopy (HRS) from ground-based facilities as well as low-resolution spectroscopy (LRS) from space. These two techniques have complementary strengths, and hence combined HRS and LRS analyses have the potential for more accurate abundance constraints and increased sensitivity to trace species. In this work, we retrieve the atmosphere of the ultra-hot Jupiter WASP-76 b, using high-resolution CARMENES/CAHA (Calar Alto high-Resolution search for M dwarfs with Exoearths with Near-infrared and optical Échelle Spectrographs) and low-resolution Hubble Space Telescope 's (HST) Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) and Spitzer observations of the primary eclipse. As such, hot planets are expected to have a substantial fraction of H2O dissociated, we conduct retrievals including both H2O and OH. We explore two retrieval models, one with self-consistent treatment of H2O dissociation and another where H2O and OH are vertically homogeneous. Both models constrain H2O and OH, with H2O primarily detected by LRS and OH through HRS, highlighting the strengths of each technique and demonstrating the need for combined retrievals to fully constrain chemical compositions. We see only a slight preference for the H2O-dissociation model given that the photospheric constraints for both are very similar, indicating |$\log (\mathrm{OH/H_2O}) = 0.7^{+0.3}_{-0.3}$| at 1.5 mbar, showing that the majority of the H2O in the photosphere is dissociated. However, the bulk O/H and C/O ratios inferred from the models differs significantly, and highlights the challenge of constraining bulk compositions from photospheric abundances with strong vertical chemical gradients. Identifying the diverse and often competing values of citizens, and resolving the consequent public value conflicts, are of significant importance for inclusive and integrated urban development. Scholars have highlighted that relational, value-laden urban space gives rise to many diverse conflicts that vary both spatially and temporally. Although notions of public value conflicts have been conceived in theory, there are few empirical studies that identify such values and their conflicts in urban space. Building on public value theory and using a case-study mixed-methods approach, this paper proposes a new approach to empirically investigate public value conflicts in urban space. Using unstructured participatory data of 4528 citizen contributions from a Public Participation Geographic Information Systems in Hamburg, Germany, natural language processing and spatial clustering techniques are used to identify areas of potential value conflicts. Four expert interviews assess and interpret these quantitative findings. By integrating quantitative assessments with the qualitative findings of the interviews, we identify 19 general public values and nine archetypical conflicts. On the basis of these results, this paper proposes a new conceptual model of 'Public Value Spheres' that extends the understanding of public value conflicts and helps to further account for the value-laden nature of urban space. Purpose: Depressive disorders cause a major burden of disease worldwide and often lead to a loss of social functioning. Patients suffering from depressive disorders report a lower quality of life (QOL) than people without a history of mental health issues. Internet-based interventions (IBIs) based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) are effective in reducing symptom severity but data on their impact on quality of life in clinically depressed patients so far is scarce. Methods: Selfapy is a CBT-based IBI for depressive disorders. 401 participants (332 female, mean age 37 (SD = 11) with a diagnosis of major depressive disorder (MDD) or dysthymia were enrolled in a randomized, parallel, three-arm trial comparing a therapist-guided Selfapy intervention with an unguided Selfapy intervention and a waiting list control. QOL was measured using the WHOQOL-BREF at baseline, post-treatment (12 weeks) and at 24-week follow-up. The effects of the interventions on QOL were calculated using linear mixed effects models. Results: At post-treatment (12 weeks) the guided and unguided intervention groups reported an increase in QOL on physical and psychological health domains compared to controls (significant group*time interaction). The gain in QOL was maintained over the follow-up period only for psychological health. QOL decreased in the social relationships and environment domains over the course of treatment and during the follow-up treatment for all participants. There were no differences between the guided and the unguided intervention. Conclusion: Selfapy proved to positively affect psychological and physical QOL in a sample of participants suffering from depressive disorders and can therefore be considered an effective and highly scalable therapeutic tool. The pattern of results might partly be attributable to effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and public health measures that coincided with the trial. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is increasingly used as a therapeutic approach for gastrointestinal diseases, especially with the advent of lumen‐apposing metal stents (LAMS). This has led to a rise in of EUS‐guided gastrointestinal anastomosis procedures. Due to the reliability of intestinal conduits with LAMS, indications for EUS‐guided gastrointestinal anastomosis are becoming more common and trend to potentially be standard care for gastric outlet obstruction, afferent loop syndrome, and EUS‐directed transgastric interventions such as EUS‐directed endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. Retrospective and prospective data indicate that the procedure is becoming widely adopted with promising outcomes. (1) Background: Because life events when there is a family member with a disability can affect the overall family wellbeing, contributing to enhance family quality of life (FQoL) in the field of early childhood intervention has become a priority. However, it is a distal outcome that needs other short-term outcomes to be addressed, some of them under the potential impact of support services. This study examines the relationships between caregiver burden, family confidence, and FQoL, as well as the influence of child and family variables. (2) Method: A total of 58 families with children in early intervention from four Spanish communities participated. Hierarchical regression was conducted to assess the relevance of each predictor. Also, a mediation was performed to investigate the mediating role of family confidence. (3) Results: The family income impacted FQoL scores, and when burden and confidence were added, it was no longer relevant. Mothers with higher levels of confidence predicted a higher FQoL. Finally, we found a complete mediation of family confidence in the relations between severity and caregiver burden on FQoL. (4) Conclusions: Caregiver burden and family confidence affect FQoL. Biological membranes are composed of a lipid bilayer with embedded proteins, including ion channels like the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC), which are critical for sodium homeostasis and implicated in arterial hypertension (HTN). Changes in the lipid composition of the plasma membrane can significantly impact cellular processes related to physiological functions. We hypothesized that the observed overexpression of ENaC in neutrophils from HTN patients might result from alterations in the structuring domains within the plasma membrane, disrupting the endocytic processes responsible for ENaC retrieval. This study assessed the structural lipid composition of neutrophil plasma membranes from HTN patients along with the expression patterns of key elements regulating ENaC at the plasma membrane. Our findings suggest alterations in microdomain structure and SGK1 kinase activity, which could prolong ENaC presence on the plasma membrane. Additionally, we propose that the proteasomal and lysosomal degradation pathways are insufficient to diminish ENaC presence at the plasma membrane in HTN. These results highlight the importance of understanding ENaC retrieval mechanisms and suggest that targeting these mechanisms could provide insights for developing drugs to prevent and treat HTN. Social media has dramatically influenced how individuals and groups express their demands, concerns, and aspirations during social demonstrations. The study of X or Twitter hashtags during those events has revealed the presence of some temporal points characterised by high correlation among their participants. It has also been reported that the connectivity presents a modular-to-nested transition at the point of maximum correlation. The present study aims to determine whether it is possible to characterise this transition using entropic-based tools. Our results show that entropic analysis can effectively find the transition point to the nested structure, allowing researchers to know that the transition occurs without the need for a network representation. The entropic analysis also shows that the modular-to-nested transition is characterised not by the diversity in the number of hashtags users post but by how many hashtags they share.
