Death Café is a not-for-profit international social franchise founded in 2011 in London. This paper is based on the most extensive empirical research of Death Cafés to date, examining the content of Death Café conversations. I interrogate the finding that, alongside talking directly about death and dying, people at a Death Café consistently talk about the value of being at a Death Café and about the value of talking about death. I introduce three main ways that talking about the value of conversations about death appears in a Death Café and, most importantly, I argue that talking about the value of conversations about death is an enjoyable part of the conversation in its own right. I use neo-tribal theory and its concept of aesthetics as ‘a way of feeling in common’ and ‘a means of recognising ourselves’ to examine this further. When talking about the value of conversations about death, Death Café participants reflexively consider the activity they are engaging in= together, which strengthens the feeling of collectivity, and bonds them into a neo-tribe. This paper demonstrates that Death Café is a valued form of social interaction, moving it away from the current academic attempts to discover Death Café’s instrumental utility. As cities increasingly adopt diverse ethnic, social, and cultural characteristics, there is an emerging logic for planning and policy to reflect this hyper-diversity (inclusion) while resolving the looming sustainability-related challenges. However, what is not adequately addressed in the current literature on urban planning – which could also solidify the justification for more citizen inclusion – is what happens when citizens are involved in planning from the perspective of sustainability. In response, this paper asks a key question: "What are the implications, in the case of urban foodscape, when citizens are involved in planning from the perspective of sustainability?" This question is investigated in this paper in the domain of urban foodscapes and through qualitative interviews, with the support of maps, in the Dutch city of Almere. A novel theoretical combination of just sustainabilities and social licence to operate (SLO) was utilised to frame citizen inclusion in foodscape planning. The findings showed that based on everyday practical experiences of food access in the city, citizens were more concerned about social interaction, the representation of food from cultural origins, and local food production. This theoretical combination, as a way of deepening inclusion, would help avoid the tendency of urban planning being used as an instrument for glossing over social injustice under the guise of citizen participation. Social isolation/marginalization in sub-Saharan Africa is under-researched, despite increasing evidence of weakening traditional community-based social support. This paper aims to develop a typology of social networks capable of accounting for social marginalization in a rural community in Western Senegal and to describe the socio-demographic characteristics of network profiles. Building on prior qualitative work, we carry out a latent profile analysis using a unique and extensive social network data set, identifying four different network profiles: Locally integrated, Constrained relationships, Locally marginalized, and Local elites. This paper provides the first empirically supported classification of social integration and marginalization in social networks in rural sub-Saharan Africa. In doing so, it can serve as a reference for future research seeking to understand both the broader scope of social integration and marginalization and the consequences of differential access to social capital through social networks on access to health resources and well-being. Human interactions are guided by rules, guidelines, and social norms—a tacit understanding of what is adequate in a given context. With interactions being increasingly digitally mediated, understanding how behavior is regulated in these environments becomes imperative. In this paper, we provide an overview of the literature on netiquette and how usage of the term developed over time. We then present findings from five exploratory focus groups, discussing general characteristics of netiquette, how users acquire and adapt netiquette, as well as the social dynamics associated with netiquette. Findings suggest that netiquette dynamically interacts with social, psychological, and environmental factors. We thus propose integrating the netiquette literature with research on social norms and conceptualize netiquette as digital social norms. The paper identifies five areas for further research that will deepen our understanding of how netiquette evolves, how it is perceived by users, and how it impacts their everyday experiences. Access to and utilization of preventive health services are diversely distributed among immigrants. This paper aims to test the impact of structural, socio-economic, cultural, and contextual factors, and to test whether the acculturation theory holds true for migrants in Italy. Based on the "Social Condition and Integration of Foreign Citizens" survey (2011–2012), this paper shows that utilization of preventive health services among immigrants depends on structural characteristics and highlights the relevance of social interactions between foreigners and natives. This discussion explores and compares the explicit interpersonal method of psychoanalysis of Harry Stack Sullivan and the implicit and until now insufficiently recognized interpersonal method of Sigmund Freud. Interpersonal means interaction via expression of feelings, emotions, and actions, gestures of body and face, and words. The centrality of emotions as motives and movers or action suggests redefining psychic reality as emotional reality. While Freud did not have the word “interpersonal,” invented by Sullivan, he nevertheless acted as an interpersonal psychotherapist both in his prepsychoanalytic period and, thereafter, from his beginnings as a psychoanalyst in 1893. The horse holds a special place in Korean culture and history. This paper explores how this animal is manifested in Seoul, aiming to reveal the interests and agendas that these manifestations serve, and what this nonhuman presence can tell about contemporary Seoul and South Korea. The paper adds a new perspective to the literature on Seoul’s development and identity formation. It also provides a case study on the interaction between humans and nonhuman-animals. Lastly, it intervenes into cultural landscape theory by offering the concept of ‘collaged cultural landscape’. It is argued that, the multilayered presence of the horse in Seoul represents South Korean aspirations for economic success, positive branding, and post-colonial strength, confidence, and legitimacy, by conveying a wide range of images, including beauty, cuteness, vigor, and valor. Too few studies of elite private schools consider how they derive power and prestige from their relationships and interactions with other social and political groups and institutions, including the State. This paper contributes to elite school studies by examining the relationality between the Australian State and private sector schools around how government funds public and private education. Of all Australian students, 35.5% attend private schools. All private schools, including elite schools, receive significant amounts of taxpayers' money. After explaining the complex policy architecture of this funding regime, this paper offers a fresh set of conceptual resources to help deepen the analysis of this situation. We argue that the whole Australian private school sector operates as an accumulation economy, essentially utilising public sector resources to enlarge, enrich and sustain itself. In the past years, human computer interaction (HCI) research and innovation have developed substantially, leading to a number of fruitful research topics. In this paper, we surveyed the HCI research and innovation in China from a 10-year perspective. We analyzed the popular research methodology and topics among Chinese researchers, including human modeling, user interface techniques, context awareness, user acceptance and performance, user experience design, human-AI interaction, HCI applications and social influences. We also conducted a bibliography analysis on the published papers in top-tier conferences and journals, which revealed a significant rising trend, and a generally broad distribution of research types. Moreover, we described typical applications and the industry influence of the research outcomes. This paper presents the findings of the study that was initiated to develop and standardize a measure of Social Interaction (SI). The items were split into five different types of social interaction: exchange, competition, conflict, cooperation and accommodation. The systematic process that was used to construct and validate the tool is delineated in this study. The theoretical foundation for the questionnaire was carried out through a literature review. The item pool was generated with each statement reflecting the different aspects of interaction. Initially, experts in the field of social psychology reviewed the items for content validity and refined the items. The preliminary version of the questionnaire was tested using a pilot study. A larger validation was done with a larger population to confirm the factor structure using Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The model fit indices were good for the obtained model (CFI = 0.929, IFI = 0.930, TLI = 0.920, RMSEA = 0.053), confirming that the model structure is robust. AbstractThis paper deals with practices of personal mobility in public space, such as walking, passing-by and queuing, and their intelligible, recognizable and intersubjectively coordinated character. People co-exist in public places without having to explain their conduct in so-many-words; they smoothly navigate by coordinating their bodies and mobile trajectories without collisions; they queue without any instructions and differentiate between who joins the queue and who projects to butt in the queue. This article addresses the intelligibility of walking trajectories in public space, how they are bodily achieved and visibly interpreted. It reflects on mobility by relying on the notion of public in two different but complementary perspectives: a) by reference to mobility in the context of public places such as parks, squares, and streets; b) by reference to the public intelligibility and recognizability of mobile actions in social interaction. The convergence between these two notions of public enables us to investigate how mobile social actions are formed (made recognizable) and how they are ascribed (actually recognized) by co-present unacquainted persons in public space. During the recent pandemic, the interest in how to make students from different backgrounds feel part of the university, and connected to their studies and peers, has become an even more widespread concern and therefore important to explore further.The aim of our study was to develop a conceptual model for educational design to support student engagement and participation, by exploring pedagogical aspects recognized as being valuable during widening participation initiatives.We used meta-ethnography following the recommended seven steps: getting started, developing a search strategy, reading and assessing the quality of the papers, analyzing how the different studies related to each other based on the interpretation of quotations of the informants (first order) and the researchers of the articles (second order), translating the meaning of the studies, developing a line of argument, and finally developing a conceptual model to express the synthesis. Three databases we used: PubMed, ERIC, and Scopus; the PRISMA workflow was used.Six articles with a qualitative approach were included. A conceptual model was developed with the theme ‘Scaffolding Strategies’ and four sub-themes: Academic Support, Social Interaction, Processing Expectations and Clarifying Learning Progress.We developed a conceptual model from previous studies that entailed aspects of particular importance to support widening participation. By using scaffolding strategies in course design, teachers and students may collectively improve the learning environment to promote widening participation, through clear instructions and frequent interaction, communication and calibration of expectations, clarification of learning processes and progress, and support for academic-skills development. Furthermore, the importance of using academic support and social interaction between students and teachers early on, to encourage students to explore how to become an independent learner, is highlighted. AbstractIn response to the challenge of high cognitive pressure and difficulty for commanders in cross-layer operations during the transition from traditional two-dimensional command and control system interfaces to mixed reality human-computer interaction interfaces, this paper conducts research on the information fusion display method for the human-computer interaction interface of the mixed reality command and control system. First, based on the findings of previous research, we developed a five-layer human-computer interaction interface for a mixed reality command and control system in typical combat scenarios. An evaluation experiment was designed and the resulting data analyzed. This analysis revealed that there are problems with low work efficiency and high cognitive load in the information acquisition process in cross-layer interaction operations. Consequently, we conducted research into the methods of integrating and displaying interactive interface information, integrating and displaying interactive and display interface information, and integrating and displaying complex situation interface information. The research findings indicate that: (1) The optimal display ratio for mixed reality 2D interface integration is 3:2. (2) The optimal display scheme for mixed reality 2D interface fusion is a combination of the main and secondary interfaces, with the main interface table displaying global information and the secondary interface displaying accurate information. (3) The optimal display scheme for mixed reality 2D and 3D interface fusion is the display of overall class information in 2D and the accurate identification of class information in 3D. Research examining privacy in a higher education setting tends to focus on the student perspective whilst largely overlooking the academic perspective. Moreover, it fails to fully conceptualise the social, relational, and contextual complexities of privacy and the vital role it has on academics' ability to form their identity. To address these knowledge gaps, this paper draws on the social theory of privacy to examine how academics socially negotiate privacy boundaries and the influence these negotiations have on their identity. Data were gathered through a qualitative case study analysis of a higher education institution in the United Kingdom (UK). The findings reveal how academic preferences and context-dependent social meanings influence the construction of dialectical privacy boundaries that allow academics to create and maintain various personal boundaries. These negotiated boundaries are influenced by the nature of the relationship between individuals, the levels of trust between colleagues, and the social norms governing workplace relationships. The findings also reveal how these negotiated privacy boundaries provide an intimate territory within which academics co-construct their identity through a complex series of social interactions occurring over time. This article provides an overview of the research on social media use by YP with language disorders.A scoping review was conducted, guided by a five-stage framework. Ten databases were searched (CENTRAL, CINAHL, ERIC, LLBA, Medline, PsychINFO, Scopus, speechBITE, Web of Science, ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global). Chaining searches of papers identified for inclusion were conducted.After screening 199 unique papers, 44 were included. Findings revealed that YP with language disorders use social media less compared to typically developing peers; their profile of communication difficulties may impact the types of social media with which they engage. Although intervention studies are limited, the results offer encouraging findings regarding the positive impact of support for use of social media. Barriers and facilitators for social media use are identified.YP with language disorders use social media for social purposes. However, co-designed research into what YP with language disorders perceive their social media needs to be is urgently needed. Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) remain a healthcare challenge and gain considerable attention due to the increasing prevalence rates and insupportable burden on families and society. It is noted that the recognition of children's emotional states plays an important role in the evaluation and intervention process of ASD. In this paper, we aim to address the problem of automatic recognition of the emotional states of ASD children in social interactive scenarios. Since the child can be unconstrained in realistic scenarios, the face occlusion under pose variations and uncertain backgrounds become challenges of this task. To tackle this problem, we employ both facial expressions as well as body poses as cues to recognize the emotional states while most traditional methods only leverage the former. Firstly for the facial information, spatial features are extracted through convolutional neural networks followed by a temporal transformer to extract temporal information. Then for the body pose information, graph convolutional networks combined with the self-attention part are used to represent spatial features and temporal convolutional layers for temporal counterparts. Finally, different multimodal fusion ways are explored to generate final recognition results. We evaluate this method on a challenging database collected by us in real-world child-clinician interactive scenarios and the proposed method achieved significantly better results than baselines using only facial information. Thirteen years after the publication of the book Social Network Theory and Educational Change, what can we say about the evolution of research connecting social network theory and analysis with teacher professional development? In this evolution, we can witness a conceptual shift in the literature connecting teacher professional development with social network theory and analysis that is important to highlight and discuss. While before 2010 teacher networks were mostly perceived as a force enacting external initiatives for teacher professional development, this perspective evolved to a perception of teacher networks as a source of professional development in themselves. This paper discusses this conceptual evolution, its consequences for the literature, and implications for future research connecting teacher professional development with social network theory and analysis. The existing literature shows that social contacts and resources available through social networks are particularly important for migrant entrepreneurs. This seems to apply also to transnational migrant entrepreneurs, who are migrants involved in entrepreneurial activities crossing national borders. It is still not entirely clear which kind of social contacts they use, nor the differences with migrant entrepreneurs conducting a domestic (namely, non-transnational) business. The paper focuses on the use of social networks by transnational and domestic entrepreneurs, by illustrating the case of Moroccan migrant entrepreneurs in Amsterdam and Milan. The research reveals that transnational entrepreneurs have more heterogenous, geographically dispersed and territorially articulated support networks, which are both more extensive and less dense than those of domestic entrepreneurs. Transnational entrepreneurs exploit their capacity to have contacts with different people in different places. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is defined by distinctive socio-cognitive behaviors that deviate from typical patterns. Notably, social imitation skills appear to be particularly impacted, manifesting early on in development. This paper compared the behavior and inter-brain dynamics of dyads made up of two typically developing (TD) participants with mixed dyads made up of ASD and TD participants during social imitation tasks. By combining kinematics and EEG-hyperscanning, we show that individuals with ASD exhibited a preference for the follower rather than the lead role in imitating scenarios. Moreover, the study revealed inter-brain synchrony differences, with low-alpha inter-brain synchrony differentiating control and mixed dyads. The study's findings suggest the importance of studying interpersonal phenomena in dynamic and ecological settings and using hyperscanning methods to capture inter-brain dynamics during actual social interactions. This paper draws on qualitative data to examine gendered dynamics of remitting and remittance use in households in northern Ghana. The findings indicate that remitting and remittance use are shaped by the interaction of social norms on household provisioning and agency of household members. While social norms on gender roles and conjugality tend to shape patterns of remitting, the household context and the agency of the individual household members sometimes interact to produce remitting behaviours that are not consistent with the general patterns in the community. Starting PhD research about sense of touch, and responsive materiality during the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic became an ethical journey in Art Practice, Phenomenology, and the materiality of Computer Human Interaction. This paper is a reflective and critical account of practice-led research within lockdown limitations. It includes the personal perspective of an early career researcher and maker's response to a health emergency. The reflection is focused on the impossibility of creating a physically shared tactile experience as direct contact between skin and matter which, in times of isolation, sparked a conversation within the supervision team, and colleagues on different aspects of touch: agency, contact, self-awareness, research documentation, and ethical implications. My PhD drastically evolved from investigating how the somatosensory system can enhance wellbeing, to exploring how material-based approaches can comprehend tech-matter-human relationship. The research is supported by '100 Year Life' project at Lab4Living, Sheffield Hallam University. In a study that set out to explore the nature and potentiality of touch through human material interaction, in the context of high risk of contagion through touch during COVID I was compelled to consider alternatives. The Indonesian government has issued hundreds of regulations and policies to deal with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. These various policies and regulations assess how a government responds, mitigates, and prevents systemic crises in its country. These decisions- and policy-making processes are largely determined by the country's unique socioeconomic and political landscape. This paper reviewed 875 regulations issued by the Indonesian government at the national level in 2020–2022 to determine which policies have the most direct social, economic, and health impact on the Indonesian population. We highlight social protection to explore the challenges and opportunities to respond future risk by taking benefit from progressive effort of the Indonesian government to protect all Indonesian populations with the priority of the most vulnerable groups. This paper aims to map out government policies and regulations in handling the pandemic and exploring the potential opportunities for adaptation to respond future risk. The study is based on expert group discussion and policy mapping. As one of the findings of the investigation, this paper discusses the interaction between large-scale and micro-scale social restriction and social protection policies, which are considered the foremost solutions for handling Indonesia's more severe economic crisis and facing current and future risks, including climate change impact. While social protection is one of the massive strategies to relieve economic impact to the most affected group, effectiveness and success are still challenges concerning data. The nature of the unfolding social cohesion in previously racially segregated residential spaces has attracted attention since the collapse of apartheid in South Africa and the subsequent transition to democracy in 1994. This paper uses sense of neighbourhood to investigate the emerging social interactions in Cambridge, a former whites-only residential suburb in East London, South Africa. Fitting a binary logistic regression on survey data from a sample of residents of Cambridge, the paper tests the likelihood of race and gender influencing three indicators of the sense of neighbourhood: the sense of safety, trust and norms of reciprocity. The results show that relational dimensions of the sense of neighbourhood differed along racial lines, with low levels of interracial trust mirroring studies elsewhere in the country, and the national-level South African Reconciliation Barometer survey reports. Due to the voluntaristic nature of relational ties, social integration will remain elusive, and regardless of the extent of racial changes, variations in the sense of neighbourhood will characterise the urban residential spaces. Amongst academics working with postgraduate students, there has recently been increasing interest in ways of supporting advanced academic literacy (AAL). This is a concern for us at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, where we teach a diverse group of postgraduate students, most of whom are subject practitioners in higher education but newcomers to the study of education. We argue that the development of AAL cannot be taken for granted - it needs to be mediated and practised in situated tasks. Our concern is how most effectively, within our context, to encourage awareness of the underlying, often unarticulated norms for participation in this complex social interaction with a disciplinary community to which our students are newcomers. In this article we demonstrate that the use of reaction papers provides opportunities for legitimate peripheral participation in both the cognitive and social processes of AAL. In 1921, in his ground-breaking Massenpsychologie und Ich-Analyse , Freud momentously redefined psychoanalysis, until then an individual psychology, as a social psychology. Whereas individual psychology had previously already been viewed as, de facto , interpersonal, even though not explicitly defined as such, Freud (1933a) unambiguously stated that “sociology, too, dealing as it does with the behaviour of people in society, cannot be anything but applied psychology,” and, by extension, applied social psychology as well. An essential part of social psychology is the relationship between the leader and the led. The latter applies not only to leader-led dynamics in small groups, but even more dramatically to the leaders of masses and mobs. Mass phenomena are seen as crucial to understanding diverse mass events in history: the two great World Wars of the 20th century and dictatorial fundamentalist political ideologies such as Fascism and Communism; and current events such as international terrorism and regional conflicts, and their relationship to a renewal of fundamentalist religious ideologies. Once again, political, social, and ideological differences are being addressed by violence and war. In 2018, the Inter-American Court delivered the first – and so far, only – judgment against Brazil on Indigenous land rights. This leading decision upheld the state's failure to comply with human rights obligations due to the non-removal of non-Indigenous individuals from the territory of the Xukuru people. Such an issue, namely, insecure land tenure affects Indigenous peoples worldwide. The decision's outcome consolidated a critical trend in international law concerning the concept of Indigenous lands: a place where Indigenous peoples have their residence and holistically develop their life, which states must actively protect, according to Article 21 of the American Convention read in conjunction with Article 1.1 and 2 thereof. By analyzing secondary sources (inter alia, ethnographies and court documents), this paper addresses the role of social (or cultural) anthropology regarding expert evidence in the Xukuru land claims. It articulates the Brazilian and Inter-American legal framework on expert evidence and Indigenous land rights with the literature on 'anthropological expertise' and 'cultural expertise', which includes the branches of forensic social anthropology and expert social anthropology. This analysis underscores the evolving challenges concerning expert evidence in legal-administrative procedures on the national and international levels. It argues that cultural anthropologists acting as experts on these levels need different sets of skills, which should be developed through special training. Thus, this paper amplifies the interdisciplinary dialogue between law and social anthropology on the topical issue of human rights adjudication. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

From a perspective in recognition of my unconscious attachment to their theoretical conceptualizations as well as intrinsic blind spots to both their and my conceptualizing, I offer a consideration of the clinical assistance and difficulty created by the Boston Change Process Study Group's formulation of the reflective, the implicit and the disjunction between the two as an “intention unfolding process.” I first consider how their conceptualizations can either clarify or obscure organizing experience for the analyst trying to make sense of what is going on between her and her analysand. Then I consider how these ideas might guide or mislead the analyst's active participation in the micromoment process flow of clinical interaction. The impact of dissociation is recognized as constitutive of a messiness and uncertainty that accompanies, and often can undermine, the adoption of any theoretical “idea,” including these, for clinical organizing and intervening activity. Consumption of food rich in dietary fibers (DFs) has been long recognized to exert an overall beneficial effect on human health. This review aims to provide a holistic overview on how IDFs impact human gut health either directly, or through modulation of the gut microbiome. Several databases were searched for collecting papers such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Scopus and Reaxys from 2000 till 2022. Firstly, an overview of the chemical structure of the various IDFs and the pathways employed by gut microbiota for their degradation is provided. The impact of IDFs on microbial community structure and pathogens colonization inside the human gut was discussed. Finally, the impact of IDFs on gut homeostasis and systemic effects at the cellular level, as well as the overall immunological benefits of IDFs consumption were analyzed. IDFs viz., cellulose, hemicellulose, resistant starch, and lignin found enriched in food are discussed for these effects. IDFs were found to induce gut immunity, improve intestinal integrity and mucosal proliferation, and favor adhesion of probiotics and hence improve human health. Also, IDFs were concluded to improve the bioavailability of plant polyphenols and improve their health-related functional roles. Ultimately, dietary fibers processing by modification shows potential to enhance fibers-based functional food production, in addition to increase the economic value and usage of food-rich fibers and their by-products. This paper explores the impact of a drama-based intervention on the social inclusion of middle school learners including some with ADHD in Algeria. The intervention included drama-based activities and was delivered over a period of six weeks (24 sessions). One second-year middle school classroom (n = 29), including students with ADHD (n = 3), was recruited for the study. A mixed-methods, explanatory sequential design was adopted: Social Inclusion Survey data were collected before and after the intervention; and qualitative data were collected using semi-structured interviews and focus groups two weeks after the intervention. The findings suggest an increase in the acceptance levels (and a decrease in the rejection levels) of students with ADHD in line with the group as a whole. Furthermore, the findings suggest a positive drama influence on the students' social interactions, friendships, and sense of belonging. The findings highlight the need for schools to promote the social inclusion of all the students through embracing creative teaching strategies and recognising the importance of social development in inclusive settings. Cybercrime is a growing problem, with increasing numbers of people reporting they have been a victim. However, the literature has tended to focus on the characteristics of the perpetrator and has often neglected to examine how the individual differences of victims may have an impact. This paper investigates how the Dark Triad – Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy – may increase the chances of being a victim of online crime. To do this, the Cyber Routine Activities Theory was applied, which suggests victimization is a result of two things: 1) a user's routine online activity which may bring them into contact with nefarious others and/or makes them an attractive target, and 2) the lack of a "capable guardian" who can defend against such nefarious others. Using an online survey (N = 328), we measured Internet users' Dark Triad traits, along with their engagement in various online activities and the preventative measures used against potential criminals. Findings demonstrated that narcissism and psychopathy increased the likelihood of victimization, but Machiavellianism did not. These relationships were moderated by gender. However, contrary to other work using the Cyber-RAT, preventative measures (e.g. knowledge of computers, presence of anti-virus programs) did not seem to impact on the likelihood of victimization. Interaction is a much-claimed attribute of focus group research yet is often deficient in analysis when its essence can become lost. In this paper we aim to develop a flexible framework that can be operationalized and replicated when attempting to encourage and capture interaction. Working as outsider researchers with John Lewis & Partners (the UK's largest employee-owned business, with 80,000 employees known as 'Partners'), we conducted eight focus groups asking 18 questions about the company's giving activities and associated decision making. Using the transcriptions, we analyzed interaction through a taxonomy of questions, laughs, and pauses, identified as the features of both interaction, and sequential interaction. Employing a two-stage approach for encouraging, capturing, and evidencing interaction, we developed an exploratory framework. Through a transparent audit trail, we reduced the data to points of impact. We propose that these present a meaningful starting position for the theorizing iteration of the data. This paper aims at discussing the recent evolutions experienced by housing in Contemporary China through the study of the living habits of wealthy families in the fringes of Shanghai and Chongqing. The copycat phenomenon widespread across Chinese cities is one example, on the one hand, of the transformations of social uses of the house which gains a dimension of visibility; and, on the other hand, of an object that so far has been studied only through Western-centred conceptions of visuality and materiality. This research offers a different perspective, one of the inhabitants of neighbourhoods with exotic atmospheres. The analysis of the discourse of the residents as well as their daily practices of space appropriation and home decoration reveals that the house plays a new role in social interactions. As a social mean of representing the status of its occupants, the outside part of the building, its surroundings and some of the interior are assigned a visual dimension destined to the outside viewers and guests of the family, transforming the relationships between the public and private spheres which duality do not match the one of what is visible and what is invisible. Contrariwise to general views about the Western style neighbourhoods, what is offered to the view does not convey a process of westernisation or acculturation of the daily life, but expresses the will for a liberation from certain social constraints experienced in the former place of residency. The Chinese contemporary home is then, among this wealthier part of the population where domestic space is a valuable resource, the place of production of a new urbanity where different forms of sociality and representations coexist. With an expectation that different doctoral programmes may encourage and support different student learning identities, this paper compares the experiences of doctoral candidates participating in doctoral studies in England and Germany. A comparison of the experiences of doctoral candidates as expressed through interviews is viewed through the lens of the theory of fit. This theory considers the alignment of values between those engaged in PhD study and the programmes created to support them. The paper claims that the identification of dimensions of fit is helpful for considering the data generated on the learning experiences and self-expressed identities of the doctoral candidates. Addressing how dimensions in relation to culture, environment and vocation change and strengthen or loosen the alignment between doctoral candidates' values and those affecting their doctoral work are important for supporting progress. This paper focuses on how opera rehearsal participants use depictions to accomplish proposals; they use a locally created scene, comprised of concrete embodiments to represent another physically or temporally distant scene. Whereas earlier work investigating depictions in interaction has mainly focused on demonstrations in pedagogical scenarios, this paper will discuss how depictions serve the ongoing creation, and aesthetic negotiation, of a yet-to-be-artistic product. In simultaneously creating and referencing iterations of this artwork, participants' depictions are both self-referential, in introversive semiosis, as well as externally referencing prototypes of mundane behaviour, in extroversive semiosis. We argue that the negotiations of the extroversive and introversive references through depiction constitute the artistic labour of creating a performance. Furthermore, we suggest that the iterative nature of rehearsing an artistic piece demonstrates analogies between introversive semiosis and interactional techniques for projection and depiction. Nonverbal behaviours are integral parts of human social interaction. Equipping social robots with human nonverbal communication skills has been an active research area for decades, where datadriven, end-to-end learning approaches have become predominant in recent years, offering scalability and generalisability. However, most of the current works only consider social signals of a single character to model co-speech gestures in non-interactive settings. To address this shortcoming, this paper introduces a context-aware Generative Adversarial Network, intending to produce social cues for robots. The approach captures both intra- and interpersonal social signals of two interlocutors to model body gestures in dyadic interaction. We conducted a series of experiments to validate the proposed solution under different interaction settings. First, the experimental results conducted in the JESTKOD dataset demonstrate the contribution of encoding context, namely the behaviours of the interaction partner, in the prediction of target person’s gestures in agreement situations. Second, the experiments conducted in the new LISI-HHI dataset show that combining Discriminator and Context Encoder results in a gesture generation framework that is effective across various social communication contexts. We reflect on the concept of the setting in psychoanalysis, and how it has been radically reconsidered given the impact of the SARS-CoV-19 pandemic on human interactions and moving from face-to-face to online sessions. The rapidity of going from seeking interaction to a fear of possible contagion led some professionals to adopt a sudden change of setting. Although the concept of setting seems to come from the classical Freudian method, Freud never spoke about it explicitly, although it was subsequently developed from his writings. Only in the 1960s and 70s was the setting perceived as the very object of psychoanalytic exploration. Since the psyche in psychoanalysis is conceived as a spatially extended entity, this paper discusses the concepts of space and time (external setting) and the mental state of both the patient and analyst (internal setting). We investigate how these aspects have changed as a result of the use of technology. What changes have taken place at the perceptual level in the patient and analyst? What differences are there with respect to the presence/absence of the other's body? While the recognition of ambiguous emotions is crucial for successful social interactions, previous work has shown that they are perceived differently depending on whether they are viewed on male or female faces. The present paper aims to shed light on this phenomenon by exploring two hypotheses: the confounded signal hypothesis, which posits the existence of perceptual overlaps between emotions and gendered morphotypes, and the social role hypothesis, according to which the observer's responses are biased by stereotypes. Participants were asked to categorise blended faces (i.e. artificial faces made ambiguous by mixing two emotions) in a forced-choice task. Six emotions were used to create each blend (neutral, surprise, sadness, fear, happiness, anger), for a total of 15 expressions. We then applied signal detection theory – considering both the morphotype of the stimuli and the participants' gender – to distinguish participants' perceptual processes from their response biases. The results showed a perceptual advantage for anger on male faces and for sadness on female faces. However, different strategies were deployed when labelling emotions on gendered morphotypes. In particular, a response bias towards angry male faces establishes their special status, as they resulted in both excellent detection and a tendency to be over-reported, especially by women. The emergence of the radical right signals that social norms and values are changing. Existing literature suggests that citizens choose to voice their concerns when faced with the erosion of democracy. In this paper, we look at the consequences of citizens using quoted tweets to express negative sentiments to denounce and discredit the radical right. Using Twitter data from Portugal, we use node embeddings to map out interactions on social media. Subsequently, we estimate a deep-learning automated sentiment analysis of quoted tweets and use a vector auto-regression model to forecast who contributes the most to the growth of the radical right on Twitter. Our findings show that users amplify the radical right's original message via weak ties and cascade effects in making negative quoted tweets. Ultimately, denouncing the radical right backfires and helps nascent illiberal parties to reach out to more users in the network and gain more users. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Over the last 30 years, there has been substantial debate about the practical, ethical and epistemological issues uniquely associated with qualitative data sharing. In this paper, we contribute to these debates by examining established data sharing practices in Conversation Analysis (CA). CA is an approach to the analysis of social interaction that relies on audio/video recordings of naturally occurring human interactions and moreover works at a level of detail that presents challenges for assumptions about participant anonymity. Nonetheless, data sharing occupies a central position in both the methodology and the wider academic culture of CA as a discipline and a community. Despite this, CA has largely been ignored in qualitative data sharing debates and discussions. We argue that the methodological traditions of CA present a strong case for the value of qualitative data sharing and offer open data sharing practices that might be usefully adopted in other qualitative approaches. In recent decades, the digital age and the Third Industrial Revolution have attracted significant attention in terms of their benefits and risks. Scholars have explored the impact of these changes on autonomy, freedom, human interactions, cognition, and knowledge sharing. However, the influence of the digital communicative environment on civic interactions and public deliberation processes has received limited attention from virtue theorists. This paper aims to address this gap. First, we discuss the challenges posed by the digital communicative environment, and we present recent attempts to revive civility within this context. Then, we propose a twofold account of civility as consisting in the two virtues of civic benevolence and civil deliberation. Carmine (CRM) is regarded as a safe coloring agent derived from the cochineal insect and is used to impart red color in a variety of products ranging from food, beverages, and cosmetics to pharmaceutical drugs. However, various toxicological implications are associated with the use of CRM, viz. anaphylaxis, utricaria, rhinitis, asthma and other cytotoxic and genotoxic ramifications. Therefore, it is imperative to evaluate the toxicity of CRM at the molecular level. A number of biophysical and biochemical methods have been used to examine the impact of CRM on human serum albumin (HSA). The formation of a CRM–HSA complex was revealed by intrinsic fluorescence analysis. The resulting circular dichroism spectra showed that CRM binding reduces the amount of alpha helices present in HSA. The synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy revealed significant microenvironment changes around the tyrosine (Tyr) and tryptophan (Trp) residues in HSA upon CRM binding. The binding of CRM takes place at or close to site I of HSA while also having transient interactions at the subdomain IIA–IIB interfaces determined by the drug displacement and molecular docking studies. The self-reported experiences of autistic individuals invite ways of thinking about moral character and moral formation that challenge Christians to rethink a number of traditional claims regarding the virtues. This paper argues that attention to autism requires rethinking accounts of growth in virtue that depend on normative views of social interactions such as friendship. Drawing on scholarship in disability studies and testimony from autistic participants in an IRB-supported research study, I contend that the phenomenon of "misfitting" put forth in the work of Rosemarie Garland-Thomson (2011) plays a constructive and essential role in shaping virtuous character. In Germany, there is still a great need for research on the quality of teacherchild interactions in ECEC institutions. Especially, because social interactions and relationships are crucial for (early) learning and development (Ulferts et al., 2019). However, there are hardly any results on factors influencing the interaction quality. This paper addresses the issue by assessing interaction quality of 48 ECEC teachers in German Kindergartens using the CLASS (Pianta et al., 2008). The influences of two factors - the activity setting and the attributed social disadvantage on the child - are explored. Interaction quality analyses show mid to high quality scores for Emotional Support and Classroom Organization whereas the Instructional Support domain is rated low. Concerning the influencing factors, we find significant differences in interaction quality between the activity settings and significantly higher Instructional Support scores for the dyads with the child with an attributed social disadvantage. This paper examines the social integration of individuals in the Fuling District, Chongqing Municipality, China, following the construction of the Three Gorges Project. The experience of these individuals is defined as a case of project-induced displacement and resettlement. Specifically, the paper focuses on the effects of multilevel social capital on social integration at three different life stages, i.e. young adults, middle-aged people, and the elderly. Social capital is classified into two levels in this study, i.e. individual social capital (e.g. strong ties or weak ties) and community social capital (e.g. social interaction, social trust, and neighborly reciprocity). A total of 620 eligible participants were interviewed in six resettled communities. A multilevel analysis was applied to the data. The results revealed that the specific life stage plays a moderating role in the effects of social capital on social integration. Similarly, social integration is affected by the relationships between individual and community social capital for young and middle adults. This study revealed that strong ties were positively associated with social integration for young adults. In contrast, weak ties compromised social integration for middle-aged people and the elderly. The positive effects of social interaction were observed for middle-aged people and the elderly. Neighborly reciprocity was positive for young adults and middle-aged people. The positive effects of social trust remained stable across different life stages. Predominant approaches in the rebel governance literature have looked at control over the means of violence as a prerogative of rebel-rulers, or armed/non-armed actors, somehow deterministically linked to territory. Here weapons have been understood as either autonomous technical-factors or as analytically invisible objects instrumental to human agencies and interactions aiming to territorial control. This paper challenges understandings of control over the means of violence as a central property radiating outwardly through hierarchically and geographically ordered spatial containers. It argues that the means of violence are relational networks among heterogeneous human-non-human entities – e.g. weapons, stockpiles, militarised architectures, forms, armed individuals/groups – that generate territory. These networks are controlled and stabilised via diffused techniques and rationalities of control. Drawing on the study of Ta'ang areas of Northern Shan State – among the few in Myanmar where well-established rebel movements have experienced official disarmament and later undertook a full-fledged re-armament – I find that controlling the means of violence occurs via turbulent combinations of technical objects, techniques and rationalities that relate to four main domains: narcotics eradication; institutionalisation; ethnonationality; and humanitarian security. Processes and practices through which attempts to control the means of violence are made entail alternative strategies to re-generate spatial organisational control and shape multiple shifting territories. Empirically exploring a highly under-researched case, the paper provides a view of the diffused character of controlling the means of violence and its mutually constitutive relations with territory, while illuminating also the role of weapons, other technical objects, and techniques. This paper explores how a sport-for-development soccer programme sought to create opportunities for social inclusion in low and high-caste social contexts in rural India. This study reveals that the caste system in India influences cultural, systemic and structural factors and that these factors influence both social inclusion and exclusion opportunities in India. Based on a series of data collected from multiple stakeholders, in a variety of contexts and using a qualitative research approach, this paper illustrates how opportunities for intragroup and intergroup participation and social interaction through a sport-for-development soccer programme can mitigate some of these caste-based structural factors that may inhibit social inclusion and facilitate opportunities for improved social inclusion for people from high and low caste communities. During COVID-19, there has been an unprecedented rise of videoconferencing use, primarily through Zoom. This increasingly popularity of Zoom has led to growing debates about its negative health impacts. In particular, 'Zoom fatigue' is a rapidly popularizing phenomena that describes the mental exhaustion or burnout arising from Zoom use. However, the specific mechanisms through which Zoom leads to Zoom fatigue are not well understood. To fill this gap, this study tested a mediated model linking Zoom use with the camera on ('ZUC') to Zoom fatigue, through the mediator of social interaction anxiety on Zoom, with a survey sample from the United Kingdom. It was also posited that self-monitoring positively moderated the effects of ZUC on social interaction anxiety on Zoom. The results demonstrated that the direct effects of ZUC on Zoom fatigue was significant and positive. The paper also showed that social interaction anxiety on Zoom increased Zoom fatigue. However, ZUC failed to indirectly increase Zoom fatigue due to the insignificant effects of ZUC on social interaction anxiety on Zoom. Self-monitoring also did not moderate the insignificant relationship between ZUC and social interaction anxiety on Zoom. Almost no one today doubts that AI systems will increasingly affect our lives in the near future. Growing interactions of humans with non-human intelligent systems are both a source of threats and a source of hopes. In this paper, some ethical challenges in the development and application of weak and strong AI systems are analyzed. Then, legal challenges that appear when legislators attempt to regulate uncertain and unpredictable phenomena such as AI are discussed. Here we show that despite these challenges, an appropriate law is the most optimal response to threats and hopes related to AI. We also point out that the development of AI will be a major political challenge. Politicians will have to find a difficult compromise between, on the one hand, consenting to the inevitable and essentially beneficial technological development for humanity and, on the other hand, certain risks and dangers, probably also inherent in the specificity of AI functioning.
