AMERICAN women legislators , *FINANCIAL bailouts - Abstract
The article focuses on U.S. Republican Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York who was appointed by Governor David Paterson to fill the Senate seat vacated by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on January 23, 2009. She was one of only three who opposed final passage of the financial-markets bailout. It is stated that the performance of the senator in the House suggested that her prospects should not be underestimated, given her impressive fundraising, campaign skills and political positioning.
