Abstract: The “Operon paper” by F. Jacob and J. Monod started 50 years of research into understanding how the expression of genes is regulated on a molecular level. Ten years ago, microRNAs (miRNAs) emerged as major regulators of eukaryotic gene expression. Here, I will review the basic principles of gene regulation by miRNAs and how these principles can be linked to insights from the Operon paper. A lot of what is understood about miRNAs required a combination of computational and experimental methods. I will discuss some examples that illustrate the power of this approach. In 1682, Leibniz published an essay containing his solution to the classic problem of squaring the circle: the alternating converging series that now bears his name. Yet his attempts to disseminate his quadrature results began seven years earlier and included four distinct approaches: the conventional (journal article), the grand (treatise), the impostrous (pseudepigraphia), and the extravagant (medals). This paper examines Leibniz's various attempts to disseminate his series formula. By examining oft-ignored writings, as well as unpublished manuscripts, this paper answers the question of how one of the greatest mathematicians sought to introduce his first great geometrical discovery to the world. Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is an important tool in the presurgical evaluation of patients with medically refractory epilepsy. The appropriate utilization and interpretation of MEG studies can increase the proportion of patients who may be able to further pursue surgical evaluation, refine surgical planning, and potentially increase the probability of seizure freedom after surgery. The aim of this paper is to provide the reader with a comprehensive but accessible guide to MEG, with particular emphasis on acquiring a working knowledge of MEG analysis, identifying patient groups that are most likely to benefit, and clarifying the limitations of this technology. The aim of this note is to formulate an envelope theorem for vector convex programs. This version corrects an earlier work, “The envelope theorem for multiobjective convex programming via contingent derivatives” by Jiménez Guerra et al. (2010) [3] . We first propose a necessary and sufficient condition allowing to restate the main result proved in the alluded paper. The authorship of articles in biomedical journals has proliferated despite efforts of publishers and editors to require justification of authorship. A proposal is made, herein, to resolve that matter by applying the "one paper: one citation" concept, so as to adhere to the thermodynamic principle of conservation of mass. This proposal provides (i) a means to allow authors to agree on their relative contribution, (ii) an incentive to assign only significant contributors to authorship, and (iii) the appropriate fractional contribution of each author when there are multiple authors. As a result, the sum of citations for any one paper shall be one paper. I believe this proposal the only method suggested, thus far, to make authorship of a biomedical paper authentic. As the number of EEG papers increases, so too do the number of guidelines for how to report what has been done. However, current guidelines and checklists appear to have limited adoption, as systematic reviews have shown the journal article format is highly prone to errors, ambiguities and omissions of methodological details. This is a problem for transparency in the scientific record, along with reproducibility and metascience. Following lessons learned in the high complexity fields of aviation and surgery, we conclude that new tools are needed to overcome the limitations of written methodology descriptions, and that these tools should be developed through community consultation to ensure that they have the most utility for EEG stakeholders. As a first step in tool development, we present the ARTEM-IS Statement describing what action will be needed to create an Agreed Reporting Template for Electroencephalography Methodology - International Standard (ARTEM-IS), along with ARTEM-IS Design Guidelines for developing tools that use an evidence-based approach to error reduction. We first launched the statement at the LiveMEEG conference in 2020 along with a draft of an ARTEM-IS template for public consultation. Members of the EEG community are invited to join this collective effort to create evidence-based tools that will help make the process of reporting methodology intuitive to complete and foolproof by design. One of the theorems in the original paper (Borisov, Nathanson, and Wang (2004) [1] ) only holds for polynomials and not for rational functions. We explain the mistake, and also prove a new theorem for the rational function case. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
