We extend the notion of balance from the realm of signed and gain graphs to conjugate skew gain graphs which are skew gain graphs where the labels on the oriented edges get conjugated when we reverse the orientation. We characterize the balance in a conjugate skew gain graph in several ways especially by dealing with its adjacency matrix and the g -Laplacian matrix. This paper is devoted to the study of the double domination in vague graphs, and it is a contribution to the Special Issue "Advances in graph theory and Symmetry/Asymmetry" of Symmetry. Symmetry is one of the most important criteria that illustrate the structure and properties of fuzzy graphs. It has many applications in dominating sets and helps find a suitable place for construction. Vague graphs (VGs), which are a family of fuzzy graphs (FGs), are a well-organized and useful tool for capturing and resolving a range of real-world scenarios involving ambiguous data. In the graph theory, a dominating set (DS) for a graph G * = (X , E) is a subset D of the vertices X so that every vertex which is not in D is adjacent to at least one member of D. The subject of energy in graph theory is one of the most attractive topics serving a very important role in biological and chemical sciences. Hence, in this work, we express the notion of energy on a dominating vague graph (DVG) and also use the concept of energy in modeling problems related to DVGs. Moreover, we introduce a new notion of a double dominating vague graph (DDVG) and provide some examples to explain various concepts introduced. Finally, we present an application of energy on DVGs. Let G be a graph with the adjacency matrix A (G) , and let D (G) be the diagonal matrix of the degrees of G. Nikiforov first defined the matrix A α (G) as A α (G) = α D (G) + (1 − α) A (G) , 0 ≤ α ≤ 1 , which shed new light on A (G) and Q (G) = D (G) + A (G) , and yielded some surprises. The α − adjacency energy E A α (G) of G is a new invariant that is calculated from the eigenvalues of A α (G) . In this work, by combining matrix theory and the graph structure properties, we provide some upper and lower bounds for E A α (G) in terms of graph parameters (the order n, the edge size m, etc.) and characterize the corresponding extremal graphs. In addition, we obtain some relations between E A α (G) and other energies such as the energy E (G) . Graph theory is one of the neglected branches of mathematics in Nigeria but with the most applications in other fields of research. This article shows the paucity, importance, and necessity of graph theory in the development of Nigeria. The adjacency matrix and dual graph of the Nigeria map were presented. The nullity of a graph G is the multiplicity of zero as an eigenvalue of its adjacency matrix. An assignment of weights to the vertices of a graph, that satisfies a zero sum condition over the neighbors of each vertex, and uses maximum number of independent variables is denoted by a high zero sum weighting of the graph. This applicable tool is used to determine the nullity of the graph. Two types of graphs are defined, and the change of their nullities is studied, namely, the graph G+ab constructed from G by adding a new vertex ab which is joint to all neighbors of both vertices a and b of G, and G•ab which is obtained from G+ab by removing both vertices a and b. Graph learning from data is a canonical problem that has received substantial attention in the literature. Learning a structured graph is essential for interpretability and identification of the relationships among data. In general, learning a graph with a specific structure is an NP-hard combinatorial problem and thus designing a general tractable algorithm is challenging. Some useful structured graphs include connected, sparse, multi-component, bipartite, and regular graphs. In this paper, we introduce a unified framework for structured graph learning that combines Gaussian graphical model and spectral graph theory. We propose to convert combinatorial structural constraints into spectral constraints on graph matrices and develop an optimization framework based on block majorization-minimization to solve structured graph learning problem. The proposed algorithms are provably convergent and practically amenable for a number of graph based applications such as data clustering. Extensive numerical experiments with both synthetic and real data sets illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms. Abstract Motivated by the study of genomes evolving by reversals, we consider pseudograph transformations known as "pressing sequences". In particular, we address the question of when a graph has precisely one pressing sequence resulting in the empty graph, thus answering an question from Cooper and Davis (2015) [13]. We characterize such "uniquely pressable" graphs, count the number of them on a given number of vertices, and provide a polynomial-time recognition algorithm. We conclude with several open questions. Abstract Let μ be an eigenvalue of a simple graph G with multiplicity k ≥ 1. A star complement for μ in G is an induced subgraph of G of order n − k with no eigenvalue μ. In this paper, we study the maximal graphs with the star S m as a star complement for −2. The maximal graphs with S 3 , S 4 , S 13 and S 21 as a star complement for −2 are described. We study the eigenvalues of the unique connected anti-regular graph A n . Using Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind, we obtain a trigonometric equation whose roots are the eigenvalues and perform elementary analysis to obtain an almost complete characterization of the eigenvalues. In particular, we show that the interval Ω = [ − 1 − 2 2 , − 1 + 2 2 ] contains only the trivial eigenvalues λ = − 1 or λ = 0 , and any closed interval strictly larger than Ω will contain eigenvalues of A n for all n sufficiently large. We also obtain bounds for the maximum and minimum eigenvalues, and for all other eigenvalues we obtain interval bounds that improve as n increases. Moreover, our approach reveals a more complete picture of the bipartite character of the eigenvalues of A n , namely, as n increases the eigenvalues are (approximately) symmetric about the number − 1 2 . We also obtain an asymptotic distribution of the eigenvalues as n → ∞ . Finally, the relationship between the eigenvalues of A n and the eigenvalues of a general threshold graph is discussed. The numerical range of a simple graph G, named F(G), is the numerical range of its adjacency matrix A(G). The main purpose of this paper is to approximate F(G). Then, using this approximation, bounds for the largest and the smallest eigenvalues of G are proposed. Given a graph G with n vertices and m edges, the term energy of graph E(G) was introduced by Gutman in chemistry, due to its relevance to the total π ― electron energy of carbon compounds. In 1971 McClelland obtained both lower and upper bounds for π 8213; electron energy. An improved upper bound was obtained by Koolen-Moulton in 2001. In a certain class of graphs, a graph is called minimizing if the least eigenvalue of its adjacency matrix attains the minimum. A connected graph containing two or three cycles is called a bicyclic graph if its number of edges is equal to its number of vertices plus one. Kautz digraphs K ( d , ℓ ) are a well-known family of dense digraphs, widely studied as a good model for interconnection networks. Closely related with these, the cyclic Kautz C K ( d , ℓ ) and the subKautz s K ( d , 2 ) digraphs were recently introduced by Böhmová, Huemer and the author. In this paper we propose a new method to obtain the complete spectra of subKautz s K ( d , 2 ) and cyclic Kautz C K ( d , 3 ) digraphs, for all d ≥ 3 , through the Hoffman–McAndrew polynomial and regular partitions. We consider only simple graphs. A graph G is said to be nonsingular if its adjacency matrix A ( G ) is nonsingular. The inverse of a nonsingular graph G is the unique weighted graph whose adjacency matrix is similar to the inverse of the adjacency matrix A ( G ) via a diagonal matrix of ±1s. An invertible graph G is said to be a self-inverse graph if G is isomorphic to its inverse. Let H be the class of connected bipartite graphs with unique perfect matchings. We consider the problem of characterizing the graphs in H which are self-inverse graphs. In this article, we answer this problem for the class of unicyclic graphs. The study of the strong reciprocal eigenvalue property is closely related to the study of graphs which are isomorphic to their inverse graphs. A nonsingular graph G is said to satisfy the property (SR) if the reciprocal of each eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix A ( G ) is also an eigenvalue of A ( G ) and they both have the same multiplicities. In this article, we show that if a unicyclic graph G in H has property (SR), then G is invertible and the inverse graph of G is unicyclic. As an application, we show that a noncorona unicyclic graph in H with property (SR) can have one of the five specified structures. Finally, our discussions lead to the following problem. It is known that the statements iii) and iv) are not equivalent, if we allow nonbipartite graphs. However, the equivalence of these two is not yet known for the class of bipartite graphs with unique perfect matchings, where we relax the condition of bipartiteness of the contracted graph. The n -vertex graph G ( = Γ ( G ) ) with a non-singular real symmetric adjacency matrix G , having a zero diagonal and singular ( n − 1 ) × ( n − 1 ) principal submatrices is termed a NSSD, a Non-Singular graph with a Singular Deck. NSSDs arose in the study of the polynomial reconstruction problem and were later found to characterise non-singular molecular graphs that are distinct omni-conductors and ipso omni-insulators. We apply matrix theory over F 2 to understand the nature of so-called “successful pressing sequences” of black-and-white vertex-colored graphs. These sequences arise in computational phylogenetics, where, by a celebrated result of Hannenhalli and Pevzner, the space of sortings-by-reversal of a signed permutation can be described by pressing sequences. In particular, we offer several alternative linear-algebraic and graph-theoretic characterizations of successful pressing sequences, describe the relation between such sequences, and provide bounds on the number of them. This paper describes the previously unknown statistical distribution of adjacency matrix spectra for planar graphs, also known as spatial weights matrices, in terms of the following three readily available eigenvalue properties: extremes, rank orderings, and sums of powers. Let G be a simple graph with the adjacency matrix A ( G ) . A well-known result of Cvetković and Gutman states that removing a pendant vertex and its neighbour, does not change the nullity of the graph. We generalize this theorem and some other theorems similar to it for an arbitrary eigenvalue of a graph. Also, for an arbitrary eigenvalue λ , we use a corresponding star set to delete some subgraphs and to determine the multiplicity of λ . We use star sets to find some Parter–Wiener vertices, in trees. A graph in a certain graph class is called minimizing if the least eigenvalue of its adjacency matrix attains the minimum among all graphs in that class. Bell et al. have identified a subclass within the connected graphs of order n and size m in which minimizing graphs belong (the complements of such graphs are either disconnected or contain a clique of size n/2 ). Graph eigenvalues are examples of totally real algebraic integers, i.e. roots of real-rooted monic polynomials with integer coefficients. Conversely, the fact that every totally real algebraic integer occurs as an eigenvalue of some finite graph is a deep and remarkable result, conjectured forty years ago by Hoffman, and proved seventeen years later by Estes. This short paper provides an independent and elementary proof of a stronger statement, namely that the graph may actually be chosen to be a tree. Assuming a uniform random model of selecting creation sequences, we show that almost every connected threshold graph has more negative than positive eigenvalues. We show that no threshold graphs have eigenvalues in ( − 1 , 0 ) . Sequences of equienergetic graphs are given including the striking result that for all n ≥ 3 , there exist n − 1 threshold graphs of order n 2 , pairwise noncospectral, each equienergetic to K n 2 . Let G be a graph with adjacency matrix A, and let H(t)=exp(itA). For an eigenvalue μ of A with multiplicity k, a star set for μ in G is a vertex set X of G such that |X|=k and the induced subgraph G-X does not have μ as an eigenvalue. G is said to have perfect state transfer from the vertex u to the vertex v if there is a time τ such that |H(τ)u,v|=1. The unitary operator H(t) has important applications in the transfer of quantum information. In this paper, we give an expression of H(t). For a star set X of graph G, perfect state transfer does not occur between any two vertices in X. We also give some results for the existence of perfect state transfer in a graph. We unify and generalize several inequalities for the number wk of walks of length k in graphs, and for the entry sum of matrix powers. First, we present a weighted sandwich theorem for Hermitian matrices which generalizes a matrix theorem by Marcus and Newman and which further generalizes our former unification of inequalities for the number of walks in undirected graphs by Lagarias et al. and by Dress and Gutman. The new inequality uses an arbitrary nonnegative weighting of the indices (vertices) which allows to apply the theorem to index (vertex) subsets (i.e., inequalities considering the number wk(S,S) of walks of length k that start at a vertex of a given vertex subset S and that end within the same subset). We also deduce a stronger variation of the sandwich theorem for the case of positive-semidefinite Hermitian matrices which generalizes another inequality of Marcus and Newman. Further, we show a similar theorem for nonnegative symmetric matrices which is another unification and generalization of inequalities for walk numbers by Erdős and Simonovits, by Dress and Gutman, and by Ilić and Stevanović. Abstract: The Randić index R of a graph G is defined as the sum of over all edges of G, where denotes the degree of a vertex in G. is the largest eigenvalue of the signless Laplacian matrix of G, where D is the diagonal matrix with degrees of the vertices on the main diagonal and A is the adjacency matrix of G. Hansen and Lucas [18] conjectured (1) and equality holds for and (2) with equality if and only if for and for , respectively.
