This paper deals with fuzzy multi-depot bus scheduling (FMDBS) problem in which the objective function and constraints are defined with fuzzy attributes. Credibility relation is used to formulate the problem as an integer multicommodity flow problem. A novel combination of branch-and-price and heuristic algorithms, is proposed to efficiently solve FMDBS problem. In the proposed algorithm, the heuristic algorithm is applied to generate initial columns for the column generation method. Also, a heuristic algorithm is used to improve the generated solutions in each node of the branch-and-price tree. Two sets of benchmark examples are applied to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm for large-scale instances. Also, the algorithm is applied to solve the classical multi-depot bus scheduling problem. The results show that the proposed algorithm decreases integrality gap and computational time in comparison with the state-of-the-art algorithms and normal branch-and-price algorithm. After the occurrence of major sudden disasters, the dispatching and distribution of disaster relief materials are particularly important, but in the process of distribution, there may be excessive distribution of similar emergency materials, unbalanced distribution volume of relief materials in different disaster-affected points, high distribution cost, and low effective distribution rate. In order to solve the above problems, based on the application of big data, this paper proposes a three-level network postdisaster material scheduling and distribution model and an improved NSGA-II algorithm. The model takes the loss degree of the disaster area and the dynamic change rate of the demand for postdisaster relief materials as the constraints, takes the demand prediction of postdisaster relief materials, the optimization of distribution path, distribution nodes, and the satisfaction of victims as the objectives, and designs the sample average approximation method and the improved NSGA-II algorithm. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model and strategy, through the comparative experiment of NSGA and PSO, it can be seen from the experimental results that the three-level network allocation model and the improved NSGA-II algorithm (nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II) proposed in this paper can not only solve the existing postdisaster relief material allocation and scheduling problem but also reduce the space-time complexity of the problem. This paper studies the problem of scheduling n jobs on a single machine to minimize total completion time and maximum cost, simultaneously. Each job is associated with a positional deadline that indicates the largest ordinal number of this job in any feasible schedule. The jobs have agreeable release and processing times, meaning that jobs with larger release times also have larger processing times. The agreeability assumption is reasonable since both the single-criterion problems (without positional deadline constraints) of minimizing total completion time and maximum lateness on a single machine with arbitrary release and processing times are strongly NP-hard. An O (n 3) -time Pareto optimal algorithm is presented. The previously known algorithms only solve two special cases of the agreeability assumption: either the case of equal release times in O (n 4) time, or the case of equal processing times (without positional deadline constraints) in O (n 3) time. In this paper, we discuss the one-machine scheduling problem with release and delivery times with the minimum makespan objective. Both heuristics and branch-and-bound algorithms have been formulated for the problem. One such branch-and-bound algorithm solves the problem and a variation that requires a delay between the completion of one job and the start of another (delayed precedence constraints). This paper analyzes key components of this branch-and-bound algorithm and proposes an improved heuristic to be used in conjunction with a different search strategy. Computational experiments demonstrate that the modifications lead to substantial improvements in running time and number of iterations on the one-machine problem instances both with and without delayed precedence constraints. Industrial scheduling problems (ISPs), especially industrial production workshop scheduling problems (IPWSPs) in various sectors like manufacturing, and power require allocating resources to tasks within multiple constraints. Addressing these complex challenges involves computationally solving problems with numerous variables and constraints. Lagrangian relaxation-based algorithms (LRAs) effectively tackle ISPs (particularly IPWSPs) by relaxing constraints through multipliers. While LRAs may violate original constraints, heuristic algorithms rectify this by crafting feasible solutions. LRAs offer efficient problem-solving and yield high-quality results with manageable computational effort. This review presents the cutting-edge LRAs for ISPs, based on 200 papers from the fields of supply chain, manufacture, power, etc. It exemplifies LRAs' principles through practical cases, and provides a classification of problems in detail, along with LRA's problem-solving process. We discuss strengths, weaknesses, and future research prospects, offering comprehensive guidance. The deterministic permutation flow shop scheduling problem with makespan criterion is not solvable in polynomial time. Therefore, researchers have thought about heuristic algorithms. There are many heuristic algorithms for solving it that is a very important combinatorial optimization problem. In this paper, a new algorithm is proposed for solving the mentioned problem. The presented algorithm chooses the weighted path that starts from the up-left corner and reaches the down-right in the matrix of jobs processing times and calculates the biggest sum of the times in the footprints of this path. The row with the biggest sum permutes among all the rows of the matrix for locating the minimum of makespan. This method was run on Taillards standard benchmark and the solutions were compared with the optimum or the best ones as well as 14 famous heuristics. Abstract: This paper proposes a four dimensional orthogonal packing and time scheduling problem. The problem differs from the classical packing problems in that the position and orientation of each item in the container can be changed over time. In this way, the four dimensional space–time problem better uses the container time. Also, we consider a general case that all parameters are real numbers, which makes the problems more difficult to solve. This paper proposes an algorithm and proves that the algorithm could solve the problem optimally by a finite number of operations. We say this problem is weak computational, meaning that if there exists a universal machine that could represent real numbers and could do unit arithmetic or logical operation on real numbers in finite time, then the algorithm could find optimal solutions in finite time. This paper also presents a proof of the weak computability over a general case of the three dimensional orthogonal packing problem where all parameters are positive real numbers. The vehicular participatory sensing network (VPSN) is now becoming more and more prevalent, and additionally has shown its great potential in various applications. A general VPSN consists of many tasks from task, publishers, trading platforms and a crowd of participants. Some literature treats publishers and the trading platform as a whole, which is impractical since they are two independent economic entities with respective purposes. For a trading platform in markets, its purpose is to maximize the profit by selecting tasks and recruiting participants who satisfy the requirements of accepted tasks, rather than to improve the quality of each task. This scheduling problem for a trading platform consists of two parts: which tasks should be selected and which participants to be recruited? In this paper, we investigate the scheduling problem in vehicular participatory sensing with the predictable mobility of each vehicle. A genetic-based trading scheduling algorithm (GTSA) is proposed to solve the scheduling problem. Resource transfers and uncertain activity durations are two practical factors that are difficult to cope with in real project management. This paper studies a new decentralized multi-project scheduling problem with both resource transfers and uncertain activity durations, we name it the stochastic decentralized multi-project scheduling problem with resource transfers (SDRCMPSPTT). To tackle the curse-of-dimensionality of an exact solution approach, we develop a new and effective rollout policy-based approximate dynamic programming (ADP) algorithm for SDRCMPSPTT. Based on the benchmark instances, we build a new data set and examine the performance of 12 priority rule heuristics, then select the two best ones as the base policy for our rollout algorithm. The proposed approach is verified under a stochastic environment by assessing different base heuristic policies, computational results show that the rollout algorithm can further improve the solution quality of the base heuristics. In this paper, we consider a two parallel machine problem where each machine has a fixed and known unavailable period. The objective is to minimize the makespan. In the literature, the problem has been considered for the case in which there is only one unavailable period on either one of the machines. This paper extends the results to two unavailable periods, one for each machine. For each of the different cases of the problem, an algorithm is developed to find the optimal solution. Although all the proposed algorithms have exponential time complexities, they are quite efficient in solving large problems. Computational results for problems with up to 1000 jobs are reported. With the proliferation of multi-gantry automated stacking cranes, the already difficult crane scheduling problem in container terminals has become even more challenging. In this paper we present an efficient algorithm that can solve a sub-problem that arises in this context, namely the prioritization of crane gantry movements once transportation tasks have been assigned. We tackle this problem for both, twin crane setting and crossover crane setting, and develop graphical models and strongly polynomial algorithms accordingly. The m-machine no-wait flowshop scheduling problem, with the objective of minimizing total completion time subject to the constraint that makespan has to be less than or equal to a certain value, is addressed in this paper. First, an algorithm is proposed to find an upper bound on the makespan in case the upper bound is not given or unknown. Given the upper bound on makespan, a proposed algorithm ( PAL) with five versions L (1, 5, 10, 15, and 20) and a genetic algorithm ( GA) are utilized for solving the problem. Furthermore, a dominance relation is established for the case of four machines. The five versions of PAL and GA are evaluated on randomly generated problems with different number of jobs and number of machines. Computational experiments show that the errors of PA10, PA15, and PA20 are much smaller than that of GA while the CPU times of PA10, PA15, and PA20 are significantly smaller than that of GA. This paper considers the single machine scheduling problem with a new version of time-dependent processing times. The processing time of a job is defined as a piecewise linear function of its start time. It is preferred that the processing of each job be started at a specific time which means that processing the job before or after that time implies additional effort to accomplish the job. The job-processing time is a nonmonotonic function of its start time. The increasing rate of processing times is job independent and the objective is to minimize the cycle time. In order to obtain efficiency and flexibility, assignment of machines' layout and determination of jobs' schedule on each machine are among the most important decisions. These decisions are interrelated and may impact each other but they are often treated separately or as a sequential decision in prior researches. In this paper, we propose a new approach to concurrently make the layout and scheduling decisions in a job shop environment. In other words, we consider an extension of the well-known job shop scheduling problem with transportation delay in which in addition to decisions made in the classic problem, the locations of machines have to be selected among possible sites. The only goal of the problem is the minimization of the makespan. A hybrid metaheuristic approach based on the scatter search algorithm is developed to tackle this problem. Using 43 randomly generated benchmark instances, the performance of the scatter search and its components are evaluated. We also applied our procedure to the classic job shop scheduling problems. In this paper, we focus on real-life settings that require the development of new models of flowshop scheduling problems, where job processing times can increase with the number of processed jobs due to the aging effect and decrease by the allocation of additional resource. We analyse the makespan minimization flowshop problem with such model and also with the aging effect only. We prove that the considered problems and their special cases are still polynomially solvable under given conditions, and on their basis, we provide optimal polynomial time solution algorithms. Abstract: Scheduling with past-sequence-dependent () delivery times is motivated by questions that arise in the electronic manufacturing industry: an electronic component may be exposed to certain a electromagnetic field while waiting for processing and is required to neutralize the effect of electromagnetism. The time spent on the neutralization process has been modeled as delivery time in the literature. In this paper, we consider single-machine scheduling problems with delivery times. We respectively derive polynomial algorithms for the following objective functions: the minimization of the total weighted completion time, the total weighted discounted completion time, the total absolute differences in completion times and the sum of earliness, tardiness and common due date penalty. Abstract: In this paper, we consider an online non-preemptive scheduling problem on two related machines, where at most jobs are allowed to be rearranged, but only after all jobs have been revealed and (temporarily) scheduled. We minimize the makespan, and we call the problem as Online scheduling with bounded rearrangement at the end (BRE), which is a semi-online problem. Jobs arrive one by one over list. After all the jobs have been arrived and scheduled, we are informed that the input sequence is over; then at most already scheduled jobs can be reassigned. With respect to the worst case ratio, we close the gap between the lower bound and upper bound, improving the previous result as well. Especially, for the lower bound, (i) for an improved lower bound is obtained, which is better than (Liu et al. Abstract: We study an on-line machine covering problem, in which jobs arrive one by one and their processing times are known upon their arrival, and jobs are allowed to migrate between machines when a new job is added in the system. However, the total processing time of migration induced by an incoming job is bounded by a constant factor times the processing time of the incoming job. The objective is to maximize the minimum machine load. In this paper, we present an on-line algorithm with competitive ratio 6/5 for the two identical machines case with . Moreover, the presented on-line algorithm is only a local migration, that is, when one job is assigned to machine , only the jobs on machine are allowed to migrate. Abstract: This paper concerns scheduling problems with the aging effect and additional resource allocation. A measurable result of the aging phenomenon is that the time required to perform a job increases whereas the additional resource allocation allows one to decrease it. As an example of a deteriorating system that can be described and optimized by the application of the models and algorithms considered, we choose the pickling process, where cleaning of metal items decreases the efficiency of the pickling (cleaning) bath (i.e., one containing an active substance), whereas heating it up can improve the efficiency. In particular, we focus on the optimization problems for such systems and model them as single-machine scheduling problems with job processing times dependent on the fatigue of a machine and on the allocation of additional resources. The objectives considered are the minimization of time criteria (the maximum completion time and the maximum lateness) under a given resource consumption as well as the minimization of the resource consumption under given time criteria. The computational complexity of the problems is determined and solution properties are proved. This paper presents a hybrid Pareto-based discrete artificial bee colony algorithm for solving the multi-objective flexible job shop scheduling problem. In the hybrid algorithm, each solution corresponds to a food source, which composes of two components, i.e., the routing component and the scheduling component. Each component is filled with discrete values. A crossover operator is developed for the employed bees to learn valuable information from each other. An external Pareto archive set is designed to record the non-dominated solutions found so far. A fast Pareto set update function is introduced in the algorithm. Several local search approaches are designed to balance the exploration and exploitation capability of the algorithm. Experimental results on the well-known benchmark instances and comparisons with other recently published algorithms show the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Abstract: The permutation flow shop scheduling problem is addressed in this paper. Two objectives, minimization of makespan and total flow time, are considered. We propose a memetic algorithm, called NNMA, by integrating a general multiobjective evolutionary algorithm (NSGA-II) with a problem-specific heuristic (NEH). We take NEH as a local improving procedure in NNMA and propose several adaptations including the acceptance criterion and job-insertion ordering to deal with multiple objectives and to improve its performance. We test the performance of NNMA using 90 public problem instances with different problem scales, and compare its performance with 23 algorithms. The experimental results show that our NNMA provides close performance for 30 small-scale instances and better performance for 50 medium- and large-scale instances. Generating schedules such that all operations are repeated every constant period of time is as important as generating schedules with minimum delays in all cases where a known discipline is desired or obligated by stakeholders. In this paper, a periodic job shop scheduling problem (PJSSP) based on the periodic event scheduling problem (PESP) is presented, which deviates from the cyclic scheduling. The PESP schedules a number of recurring events as such that each pair of event fulfills certain constraints during a given fixed time period. To solve such a hard PJSS problem, we propose a hybrid algorithm, namely PSO-SA, based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) and simulated annealing (SA) algorithms. To evaluate this proposed PSO-SA, we carry out some randomly constructed instances by which the related results are compared with the proposed SA and PSO algorithms as well as a branch-and-bound algorithm. In addition, we compare the results with a hybrid algorithm embedded with electromagnetic-like mechanism and SA. Moreover, three lower bounds (LBs) are studied, and the gap between the found LBs and the best found solutions are reported. This paper considers group scheduling problem in hybrid flexible flow shop with sequence-dependent setup times to minimize makespan. Group scheduling problem consists of two levels, namely scheduling of groups and jobs within each group. In order to solve problems with this context, two new metaheuristics based on simulated annealing (SA) and genetic algorithm (GA) are developed. A design procedure is developed to specify and adjust significant parameters for SA- and GA-based metaheuristics. The proposed procedure is based on the response surface methodology and two types of objective function are considered to develop multiple-objective decision making model. For comparing metaheuristics, makespan and elapsed time to obtain it are considered as two response variables representing effectiveness and efficiency of algorithms. Based on obtained results in the aspect of makespan, GA-based metaheuristic is recommended for solving group scheduling problems in hybrid flexible flow shop in all sizes and for elapsed time SA-based metaheuristic has better results. Abstract: The scheduling problem of minimizing total tardiness on a single machine is known to be -hard in the ordinary sense. In this paper, we consider the special case of the problem when the processing times and the due dates of the jobs , are oppositely ordered: and . It is shown that already this special case is -hard in the ordinary sense, too. The set of jobs is partitioned into , subsets , for , such that for each . We propose algorithms which solve the problem: in time if ; in time if ; and in time if . The polynomial algorithms do neither require the conditions mentioned above nor integer processing times to construct an optimal schedule. In recent decades, the Timed Elastic Band (TEB) algorithm is widely used for the AGV local path panning because of its convenient and efficiency. However, it may make a local detour when encountering a curve turn and cause excessive energy consumption. To solve this problem, this paper proposed an improved TEB algorithm to make the AGV walk along the wall when turning, which shortens the planning time and saves energy. Experiments were implemented in the Rviz visualization tool platform of the robot operating system (ROS). Simulated experiment results reflect that an amount of 5% reduction in the planning time has been achieved and the velocity curve implies that the operation was relatively smooth. Practical experiment results demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method that the robots can avoid obstacles smoothly in the unknown static and dynamic obstacle environment. The characteristics of railway dangerous goods accidents are very complex. The rescue of railway dangerous goods accidents should consider the timeliness of rescue, the uncertainty of traffic environment and the diversity of rescue resources. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to confront the rescue resources scheduling problem of railway dangerous goods accident by considering factors such as rescue capacity, rescue demand and response time. Based on the analysis of travel time and reliability for rescue route, a multi-objective scheduling model of rescue resources based on travel time reliability is constructed in order to minimize the total arrival time of rescue resources and to maximize total reliability. The proposed model is more reliable than the traditional model due to the consideration of travel time reliability of rescue routes. Moreover, a two-stage algorithm is designed to solve this problem. A multi-path algorithm with bound constraints is used to obtain the set of feasible rescue routes in the first stage, and the NSGA-II algorithm is used to determine the scheduling of rescue resources for each rescue center. Finally, the two-stage algorithm is tested on a regional road network, and the results show that the designed two-stage algorithm is valid for solving the rescue resource scheduling problem of dangerous goods accidents and is able to obtain the rescue resource scheduling scheme in a short period of time. Repair-based search algorithms start with an initial solution and attempt to improve it by iteratively applying repair operators. Such algorithms can often handle large-scale problems that may be difficult for systematic search algorithms. Nevertheless, the computational cost of solving such problems is still very high. We observed that many of the repair steps applied by such algorithms are redundant in the sense that they do not eventually contribute to finding a solution. Such redundant steps are particularly harmful in repair-based search, where each step carries high cost due to the very high branching factor typically associated with it. Accurately identifying and avoiding such redundant steps would result in faster local search without harming the algorithm's problem-solving ability. In this paper we propose a speedup learning methodology for attaining this goal. It consists of the following steps: defining the concept of a redundant step; acquiring this concept during off-line learning by analyzing solution paths for training problems, tagging all the steps along the paths according to the redundancy definition and using an induction algorithm to infer a classifier based on the tagged examples; and using the acquired classifier to filter out redundant steps while solving unseen problems. Our algorithm was empirically tested on instances of real-world employee timetabling problems (ETP). The problem solver to be improved is based on one of the best methods for solving some large ETP instances. In order to solve the problems of long path planning time and large number of redundant points in the rapidly-exploring random trees algorithm, this paper proposed an improved algorithm based on the parent point priority determination strategy and the real-time optimization strategy to optimize the rapidly-exploring random trees algorithm. First, in order to shorten the path-planning time, the parent point is determined before generating a new point, which eliminates the complicated process of traversing the random tree to search the parent point when generating a new point. Second, a real-time optimization strategy is combined, whose core idea is to compare the distance of a new point, its parent point, and two ancestor points to the target point when a new point is generated, choosing the new point that is helpful for the growth of the random tree to reduce the number of redundant points. Simulation results of 3-dimensional path planning showed that the success rate of the proposed algorithm, which combines the strategy of parent point priority determination and the strategy of real-time optimization, was close to 100%. Compared with the rapidly-exploring random trees algorithm, the number of points was reduced by more than 93.25%, the path planning time was reduced by more than 91.49%, and the path length was reduced by more than 7.88%. The IRB1410 manipulator was used to build a test platform in a laboratory environment. The path obtained by the proposed algorithm enables the manipulator to safely avoid obstacles to reach the target point. 6G vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication will be combined with vehicle automatic driving technology and play an important role in automatic driving. However, in 6G V2X systems, vehicle users have the characteristics of high-speed movement. Therefore, how to provide stable and reliable wireless link quality and improve channel gain has become a problem that must be solved. To solve this problem, a new multi-user scheduling algorithm based on block diagonalization (BD) precoding for 6G ultra-massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems is proposed in this paper. The algorithm takes advantage of the sensitive nature of BD precoding to channel correlation, uses the Pearson coefficient after matrix vectorization to measure the channel correlation between users, defines the scheduling factor to measure the channel quality according to the user noise enhancement factor, and jointly considers the influence of the correlation between user channels and channel quality, ensuring the selection of high-quality channels while minimizing channel correlation. Simulation results show that compared with the multi-user scheduling algorithm based on subspace correlation, condition number, and geometric angle, the proposed algorithm can obtain higher user channel gain, effectively reduce the system bit error rate, and can be applied to 6G V2X communication. Electrifying public bus transportation is a critical step in reaching net-zero goals. In this paper, the focus is on the problem of optimal scheduling of an electric bus (EB) fleet to cover a public transport timetable. The problem is modelled using a mixed integer program (MIP) in which the charging time of an EB is pertinent to the battery's state-of-charge level. To be able to solve large problem instances corresponding to real-world applications of the model, a metaheuristic approach is investigated. To be more precise, a greedy randomized adaptive search procedure (GRASP) algorithm is developed and its performance is evaluated against optimal solutions acquired using the MIP. The GRASP algorithm is used for case studies on several public transport systems having various properties and sizes. The analysis focuses on the relation between EB ranges (battery capacity) and required charging rates (in kW) on the size of the fleet needed to cover a public transport timetable. The results of the conducted computational experiments indicate that an increase in infrastructure investment through high speed chargers can significantly decrease the size of the necessary fleets. The results also show that high speed chargers have a more significant impact than an increase in battery sizes of the EBs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
