A new type of iodosulfite ion formulated as I2SO22−Synthesis of 2: to an aqueous solution of 1(100 mL), which was prepared according to previously reported procedures,11SO2-saturated water (40 mL) was added and the solution was cooled to 5 °C. After standing for 12 h, yellow crystals precipitated.X-Ray crystallographic study for 2: X-ray diffraction data (12 432 reflections) were collected at 277 K on a Rigaku/MSC Mercury CCD system using graphite-monochromated Mo-Kα radiation (λ= 0.71073 ). A total of 3568 reflections were unique (Rint= 0.045). A crystal of 2was attached to a glass capillary using epoxy. All calculations were performed using the teXsan crystallographic software package from Molecular Structure Corporation.12The structures were solved by direct methods (SIR-97)13and refined by full-matrix least-squares techniques (SHELXL-97)14against F2. Abstract

This paper deals with a notable halosulfite ion, (I2SO22−), which is a rare example of this inorganic anion species; the reaction of the platinum(ii) complex, [Pt(depe)2]I2with SO2afforded the complex, [Pt(depe)2](I2SO2) containing the rare anion; considering with the VSEPR concept, the structure of the anion could be interpreted as a distorted trigonal bipyramid.
