When aimed at minimizing both the classification error and the number of selected features, feature selection can be treated as a bi-objective optimization problem suitable for solving with multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs). However, traditional MOEAs may encounter difficulties due to discrete optimization environments and the curse of dimensionality in the feature space, especially for high-dimensional datasets. Therefore, in this paper an interpolation-based evolutionary algorithm (termed IPEA) is proposed for tackling bi-objective feature selection in classification, where an interpolation based initialization method is designed for covering a wide range of search space and exploring the adaptively detected regions of interest. In experiments, IPEA is been compared with four state-of-the-art MOEAs in terms of two widely-used performance metrics on a list of 20 public real-world classification datasets with the dimensionality ranging from low to high. The overall empirical results suggest that IPEA generally performs the best of all tested algorithms, with significantly better search abilities and much lower computational time cost. There are a lot of multi-objective optimization problems (MOPs) in the real world, and many multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs) have been presented to solve MOPs. However, obtaining non-dominated solutions that trade off convergence and diversity remains a major challenge for a MOEA. To solve this problem, this paper designs an efficient multi-objective sine cosine algorithm based on a competitive mechanism (CMOSCA). In the CMOSCA, the ranking relies on non-dominated sorting, and the crowding distance rank is utilized to choose the outstanding agents, which are employed to guide the evolution of the SCA. Furthermore, a competitive mechanism stemming from the shift-based density estimation approach is adopted to devise a new position updating operator for creating offspring agents. In each competition, two agents are randomly selected from the outstanding agents, and the winner of the competition is integrated into the position update scheme of the SCA. The performance of our proposed CMOSCA was first verified on three benchmark suites (i.e., DTLZ, WFG, and ZDT) with diversity characteristics and compared with several MOEAs. The experimental results indicated that the CMOSCA can obtain a Pareto-optimal front with better convergence and diversity. Finally, the CMOSCA was applied to deal with several engineering design problems taken from the literature, and the statistical results demonstrated that the CMOSCA is an efficient and effective approach for engineering design problems. Unconstrained continuous large-scale global optimization (LSGO) is still a challenging task for a wide range of modern metaheuristic approaches. A cooperative coevolution approach is a good tool for increasing the performance of an evolutionary algorithm in solving high-dimensional optimization problems. However, the performance of cooperative coevolution approaches for LSGO depends significantly on the problem decomposition, namely, on the number of subcomponents and on how variables are grouped in these subcomponents. Also, the choice of the population size is still an open question for population-based algorithms. This paper discusses a method for selecting the number of subcomponents and the population size during the optimization process ("on fly") from a predefined pool of parameters. The selection of the parameters is based on their performance in the previous optimization steps. The main goal of the study is the improvement of coevolutionary decomposition-based algorithms for solving LSGO problems. In this paper, we propose a novel self-adapt evolutionary algorithm for solving continuous LSGO problems. We have tested this algorithm on 15 optimization problems from the IEEE LSGO CEC'2013 benchmark suite. Fault diagnosis of interconnection networks is vital to ensuring the reliability and maintenance of multiprocessor systems. Based on graph theory, diagnostic algorithms for solving the problem of fault diagnosis in interconnection networks have been widely studied. As the number of processors in multiprocessor systems has increased in recent years, fault diagnosis algorithms based on graph theory cannot meet the current diagnosis requirements of some interconnection networks, such as t-diagnosable systems. In this paper, we use the evolution diagnosis approach to study fault diagnosis in t-diagnosable systems under the PMC model. First, for a t-diagnosable system G with a syndrome σ , we use a simple centralized algorithm to generate its simplified diagnosis graph G f , which contains all the faulty nodes in G. Based on the graph, we prove that the faulty node set in G is the minimum cover set of G f . Next, we prove that the problem of computing the minimum cover set for G f is equivalent to the problem of computing the optimal solution of a zero-one integer program. Using this result, we propose a novel genetic algorithm to solve the problem of the zero-one integer program. The simulation results show that the diagnostic accuracy of our proposed algorithm is equal to or greater than 96% and that the proposed algorithm outperforms its competitors in terms of diagnostic accuracy, number of iterations and running time. As the growth of social network scale, so do challenges to the existing anomaly detection algorithms. Therefore, this paper proposed an anomaly detection method based on graph modularity clustering（GMC＿AD）, which could be applied to solve the problem of low detection efficiency caused by network size and complexity. Based on analyzing the network topology structure, the GMC＿AD method improved the efficiency of events detection by weighting mechanism on abnormal nodes and modularity clustering algorithm. The GMC＿AD processes could be described as follow: a)Since designing a quantization strategy for node evolution in the network, GMC＿AD get the set of abnormal nodes by recognizing nodes with abnormal evolutionary behaviors. b)The method used a modularity clustering algorithm to reduce the network size. c)During the calculation of network fluctuation value, it introduced a weighting mechanism for taking the influence of abnormal nodes into consideration, after that, the GMC＿AD method detected the abnormality by the changes of network fluctuation value. On real social network datasets VAST, EU＿E-mail and ENRON, the GMC＿AD method accurately detected the abnormal periods. The event detection sensibility of GMC＿AD method was increased by 50%～82% meanwhile the run-time efficiency increased by 30%～70%. Evolutionary multi-objective optimization (EMO) refers to the domain in which an evolutionary algorithm is applied to tackle an optimization problem with multiple objective functions. The literature is rich with many approaches proposed to solve multi-objective problems including the NSGA-II, MOEA/D, and MOPSO algorithms. The proposed approaches include stand-alone as well as hybrid techniques. One critical aspect of any evolutionary algorithm (EA) is the stopping criterion. The selection of a specific stopping criterion can have a considerable effect on the performance and the final solution provided by the EA. A number of different stopping criteria, specifically designed for EMO, have been proposed in the literature. In this paper, the performance of six different EMO algorithms is tested and compared using four stopping criteria. The experiments are performed using the ZDT, DTLZ, CEC2009, Tanaka and Srivana test functions. Experimental results are analyzed to highlight the proper stopping criteria for different algorithms. Artificial intelligence is an enabling technology for autonomous surface vehicles, with methods such as evolutionary algorithms, artificial potential fields, fast marching methods, and many others becoming increasingly popular for solving problems such as path planning and collision avoidance. However, there currently is no unified way to evaluate the performance of different algorithms, for example with regard to safety or risk. This paper is a step in that direction and offers a comparative study of current state-of-the art path planning and collision avoidance algorithms for autonomous surface vehicles. Across 45 selected papers, we compare important performance properties of the proposed algorithms related to the vessel and the environment it is operating in. We also analyse how safety is incorporated, and what components constitute the objective function in these algorithms. Finally, we focus on comparing advantages and limitations of the 45 analysed papers. This paper starts with two hypotheses. The first one is that the simultaneous optimization of the hyperparameters regulating the classifier within a wrapper method, while the best subset of features is being determined, should improve the results with respect to those obtained with a pre-parameterized classifier. The second one is that solving these two problems can be formulated as a lexicographic optimization problem, allowing the use of a simple single-objective evolutionary algorithm to solve this multi-objective problem. The fitness function is of key importance for such wrapper methods. It is responsible for guiding the search towards potentially good solutions and it also consumes most of the runtime. Having these issues in mind, this paper also proposes a new lexicographic fitness function, designed to minimize the runtime of the algorithm and also to avoid over-fitting. Furthermore, the execution time and the quality of the results obtained by the wrapper procedure also depend on some algorithmic hyperparameters: the similarity thresholds used when comparing two different solutions lexicographically and the percentage of data samples used for validation during the training process. Thus, an experimental analysis has been carried out to find adequate values for these hyperparameters. Finally, the lexicographic cooperative co-evolutionary wrapper approach, using the new fitness function proposed in this paper, has been tested with several datasets belonging to the University of California, Irvine (UCI) repository and also with some real high-dimensional datasets, obtaining quite good results, compared to other state-of-the-art wrapper methods. The design of genetic operators is absolutely one of the core work of evolutionary algorithms research. However, the essence of the evolutionary algorithms is that a lot of algorithm design is based on the manual result analysis, summarize, refine, feedback, and then, the algorithms are designed adaptively and correspondingly. This kind of design scheme needs artificial statistics and analysis of large amounts of data, which greatly increases the burden of the designers. To solve this problem, an evolutionary algorithm framework based on genetic operator automatic design is proposed in this paper. In the first step, Gene Expression Programming and Differential Evolution methods are combined together and used to design the genetic operators automatically and adaptively, this hybrid method can not only explore solutions in problem space for the problem solving as most classical evolutionary algorithms do, but also generate genetic operators automatically in operator space for the proper operators extraction and selection related to the evolutionary algorithms. In the second step, the designed operators are adopted into the typical evolutionary algorithms to verify the performance and the result shows that the new designed genetic operator is superior to or at least equivalent to some existing DE variants in a set of classical benchmark functions. Adversarial sample generation problem is a hot issue in the security field of deep learning. Evolutionary algorithm has been widely used to solve this problem in recent years because of its good global search ability. However, existing methods still suffer from the "curse of dimensionality" when attacking high-resolution images. In this paper, a two-stage frequency domain generation algorithm of black-box adversarial samples based on differential evolution is proposed. In the first stage, a representative image-guided differential evolution method is proposed to quickly generate a universal adversarial perturbation with a high attack success rate in the frequency-domain. In the second stage, a space reduction strategy based on frequency-domain pixel blocks is designed to reduce the search space and alleviate the problem of "curse of dimensionality". In addition, a new space–frequency interaction sensitivity measure is introduced to evaluate the similarity between the adversarial samples and the original images. The adversarial perturbations obtained by the measure are more in line with the subjective perception of the human eye. This paper deals with multi-objective school bus routing problem, which includes route balance, total number of school buses and total travel distance optimization objectives. An improved non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGAII) is proposed to solve this problem. First, the definition of measurement indicator that denotes the degree of route balance is given based on the analysis of the solved problem. And then, the multi-objective optimization function is provided. In the proposed algorithm, the individuals are obtained by using the tournament selection, sequential crossover and inverse mutation. The 2-opt neighborhood operator is adopted to improve the best individuals obtained in each iteration. At the same time, the route selection rule based on the degree of route balance is applied to select the final optimal solution set. The solution with better balance degree will be taken as the best solution. Finally, some benchmark instances are used to test the effectiveness of proposed algorithm. The results reveal that the proposed algorithm outperforms the standard NSGAII and Multi-objective Evolutionary Algorithm(MOEA). To solve engineering problems with evolutionary algorithms, many expensive function evaluations (FEs) are required. To alleviate this difficulty, surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithms (SAEAs) have attracted increasingly more attention in both academia and industry. Most existing SAEAs either waste computational resources due to the lack of accuracy of the surrogate model or easily fall into the local optimum as the dimension increases. To address these problems, this paper proposes an adaptive surrogate-assisted particle swarm optimization algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, a surrogate model is adaptively selected from a single model and an ensemble model by comparing the best existing solution and the latest obtained solution. Additionally, a model output criterion based on the standard deviation is suggested to improve the stability and generalization ability of the ensemble model. To verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, 10 benchmark functions with different modalities from 10 to 50 dimensions are tested, and the results are compared with those of five state-of-the-art SAEAs. The experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm performs well for most benchmark functions within a limited number of FEs. The fitness landscape is a theory applied to the evolutionary dynamics of biological evolution to explain the behavior of evolutionary algorithms in the solution of optimization problems. With the continuous advancement of evolutionary algorithm optimization, a fitness landscape can present more abundant feature information, such as the local fitness, fitness distance correlation, and landscape roughness. These landscape features reflect the optimal solution distribution, quantity, and local unimodal topology of the optimization problem from various angles. This paper expresses the adaptability landscape features of typical optimization problems, engages in a quantitative analysis of the fitness distance correlation information, evaluates the difficulty of solving the problem within the search space, and obtains the correlation degree classification result. The search strategy adapts the mixed mutation and the fitness distance correlation for differential evolution. Empirical studies show that, the fitness distance correlation search strategy for the differential evolution algorithm can avoid falling into the local optimum, improve accuracy and convergence, and solve the single-objective optimization problem in a more comprehensive manner. Simultaneous optimization of several competing objectives requires increasing the capability of optimization algorithms. This paper proposes the multi-objective moth swarm algorithm, for the first time, to solve various multi-objective problems. In the proposed algorithm, a new definition for pathfinder moths and moonlight was proposed to enhance the synchronization capability as well as to maintain a good spread of non-dominated solutions. In addition, the crowding-distance mechanism was employed to select the most efficient solutions within the population. This mechanism indicates the distribution of non-dominated solutions around a particular non-dominated solution. Accordingly, a set of non-dominated solutions obtained by the proposed multi-objective algorithm is kept in an archive to be used later for improving its exploratory capability. The capability of the proposed MOMSA was investigated by a set of multi-objective benchmark problems having 7 to 30 dimensions. The results were compared with three well-known meta-heuristics of multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition (MOEA/D), Pareto envelope-based selection algorithm II (PESA-II), and multi-objective ant lion optimizer (MOALO). Four metrics of generational distance (GD), spacing (S), spread (Δ), and maximum spread (MS) were employed for comparison purposes. The qualitative and quantitative results indicated the superior performance and the higher capability of the proposed MOMSA algorithm over the other algorithms. The MOMSA algorithm with the average values of CPU time = 2771 s, GD = 0.138, S = 0.063, Δ = 1.053, and MS = 0.878 proved to be a robust and reliable model for multi-objective optimization. In this paper, an evolutionary optimization procedure is presented to generate band-pass metasurface-based filters in terahertz regime. As a measure of novelty, pass-band, transition, and out-band characteristics are investigated separately, all of which result in different metasurfaces for filtering applications. The presented approach is defined based on random hill climbing algorithm, regarding the established link between Matlab and HFSS software. A metasurface-based filter with specific properties is considered as the main problem to be solved by the optimization method. Moreover, the fuzzy theory, mean square method, and weighting coefficient procedure are considered to define an efficient fitness function evaluation approach. Also, a step-by-step procedure is used to generate desired structures with a great note of efficiency. The final generated structure has magnificent characteristics including sharp transitions together with transmittance around 0.68 and less than 0.04 at pass-band and out-band regions, respectively. Coal consumption and free calcium oxide (f-CaO) content are two important production indicators in the cement calcination process, and its collaborative optimization is of great significance to improve the production performance. However, due to the multiple dynamic interferences and multiple conflicts between coal consumption and f-CaO, product quality is unstable and coal consumption becomes high. To address the problems, this paper proposes a multi-objective collaborative optimization method for cement calcination process. This method takes the coal consumption and f-CaO content as the optimization objectives to establish a multi-objective optimization model. In addition, to solve the problem that static single-step optimization is difficult to track the continuous change of working conditions, we propose a time domain rolling multi-objective Jaya algorithm (TDRM-Jaya) to optimize the model. The algorithm, involving a population update strategy, a selection strategy and a time domain rolling strategy, realizes the dynamic rolling optimization for the cement calcination process. The test comparison with several common intelligent optimization algorithms demonstrates the advantages of using TDRM-Jaya. A large number of metaheuristic algorithms have been proposed in the last three decades, but no metaheuristic algorithm is superior to the others for all the optimization problems. It is laborious to select an appropriate metaheuristic algorithm to solve a problem, especially for laymen. In this paper, a framework for co-evolutionary algorithm using Q-learning with the meme is proposed, which is called as QLMA. The solution generation method in the metaheuristic algorithm is named meme, which is also viewed as the action for an agent in Q-learning, and multiple memes form the action set. In the initial stage, the tent map and opposition based learning are employed to obtain the initial population. In updating stage, a new population is generated by an action that is chosen from the action set by the agent in Q-learning, then the disruption operation is applied, avoiding excessive aggregation of solutions around the current global optimal solution and improving the balance between exploration and exploitation. QLMA is compared to sixteen algorithms on 23 classical benchmark functions, CEC 2017, and CEC 2019 benchmark functions. Stable, efficient and lossless fruit picking has always been a difficult problem, perplexing the development of fruit automatic picking technology. In order to effectively solve this technical problem, this paper establishes a multi-objective trajectory model of the manipulator and proposes an improved multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm (represented as GMOPSO). The algorithm combines the methods of mutation operator, annealing factor and feedback mechanism to improve the diversity of the population on the basis of meeting the stable motion, avoiding the local optimal solution and accelerating the convergence speed. By adopting the average optimal evaluation method, the robot arm motion trajectory has been testified to constructively fulfill the picking standards of stability, efficiency and lossless. The performance of the algorithm is verified by ZDT1~ZDT3 benchmark functions, and its competitive advantages and disadvantages with other multi-objective evolutionary algorithms are further elaborated. In this paper, the algorithm is simulated and verified by practical experiments with the optimization objectives of time, energy consumption and pulsation. The simulation results show that the solution set of the algorithm is close to the real Pareto frontier. The optimal solution obtained by the average optimal evaluation method is as follows: the time is 34.20 s, the energy consumption is 61.89 °/S2 and the pulsation is 72.18 °/S3. The actual test results show that the trajectory can effectively complete fruit picking, the average picking time is 25.5 s, and the success rate is 96.67%. The experimental results show that the trajectory of the manipulator obtained by GMOPSO algorithm can make the manipulator run smoothly and facilitates efficient, stable and nondestructive picking. Students generally attempt to improve themselves with different manners in their spare time. Inspired by this fact, this paper presents a multi-objective elitist feedback teaching–learning-based optimization (MEFTO) algorithm for multi-objective optimization problems. To promote the exploration capacity and convergence of the basic teaching–learning-based optimization (TLBO), a feedback phase that simulates the spare-time learning phenomenon is introduced at the end of the learner phase. Students should compare their score with the average class score to select an appropriate means for further improvement. Poorly performing students can learn from the teacher directly for rapid improvement, whereas high-performing students prefer to motivate themselves for reinforcement learning. Non-dominated sorting is incorporated to permit this heuristic to solve problems with several objectives. Crowding distance calculation is adopted to maintain the diversity of the obtained solution set in a single run. Elitism strategy is also employed to provide a great improvement for the algorithm. The performance of the MEFTO algorithm is compared with seven other well-known algorithms by using a set of unconstrained benchmark test problems and three constrained engineering optimization problems. In this paper, a new compact algorithm is proposed. Two sinusoidal formulas are used to automatically adjust the crossover rate and the mutation scaling factor in the compact Differential Evolution (cDE) metaheuristic. The proposed algorithm, called Compound Sinusoidal cDE, CScDE, is compared to seven state-of-the-art compact algorithms on the well-known BBOB test-bed, the CEC-2014 test suite for continuous optimisation, as well as five real-world optimisation problems chosen from the CEC-2011 benchmarks. The CScDE algorithm outperformed its competitors for most problem categories and over most dimensions. This paper tackles the short-term hydro-power unit commitment problem in a multi-reservoir system — a cascade-based operation scenario. For this, we propose a new mathematical modeling in which the goal is to maximize the total energy production of the hydro-power plant in a sub-daily operation, and, simultaneously, to maximize the total water content (volume) of reservoirs. For solving the problem, we discuss the Multi-objective Evolutionary Swarm Hybridization (MESH) algorithm, a recently proposed multi-objective swarm intelligence-based optimization method which has obtained very competitive results when compared to existing evolutionary algorithms in specific applications. The MESH approach has been applied to find the optimal water discharge and the power produced at the maximum reservoir volume for all possible combinations of turbines in a hydro-power plant. The performance of MESH has been compared with that of well-known evolutionary approaches such as NSGA-II, NSGA-III, SPEA2, and MOEA/D in a realistic problem considering data from a hydro-power energy system with two cascaded hydro-power plants in Brazil. With the development of cloud computing (CC), service-oriented architecture (SOA), and container technology, modeling and simulation (M&S) resources, such as simulation software and different sorts of models, can be shared and reused in a cloud environment. Modeling and Simulation as a Service (MSaaS), as a new paradigm, supports sharing simulation models or modeling tools and has enabled a wide range of model reuse. However, reusing or combining some immature models may result in inefficient M&S activities or even false simulation results. To make sure the appropriate reuse and composition of simulation models in cloud environments, which is also termed as model service composition for simulation (MSCS), this paper incorporates model maturity with service cooperation as a metric to evaluate the quality of model composition in cloud. Then, as a multi-objective optimization problem with multiple constraints, the MSCS problem and its process are described in detail. To solve the MSCS problem, a novel evolutionary algorithm named CA-AO-NSGAII is proposed. In the algorithm, adaptive crossover and mutation operators, as well as probabilistic initialization are developed. Furthermore, a half-local search algorithm in an elitist mechanism is designed for efficient decision-making. To validate the performance of CA-AO-NSGAII, experiments with respect to four different cases are conducted. Results show that the proposed method for addressing MSCS issue is effective and feasible. Swarm intelligence is a discipline which makes use of a number of agents for solving optimization problems by producing low cost, fast and robust solutions. The dragonfly algorithm (DA), a recently proposed swarm intelligence algorithm, is inspired by the dynamic and static swarming behaviors of dragonflies, and it has been found to have a higher performance in comparison to other swarm intelligence and evolutionary algorithms in numerous applications. There are only a few surveys about the dragonfly algorithm, and we have found that they are limited in certain aspects. Hence, in this paper, we present a more comprehensive survey about DA, its applications in various domains, and its performance as compared to other swarm intelligence algorithms. We also analyze the hybrids of DA, the methods they employ to enhance the original DA, their performance as compared to the original DA, and their limitations. This paper proposes a multi-level multi-energy management framework for the coordinated and interactive operation of heterogeneous multi-microgrids (MMGs) based on many-criteria optimality. With the proposed framework, the highly nonlinear and complex MMG multi-energy management (MMGMEM) problem is formulated into tri-level scheduling subproblems with multi-energy couplings and multi-level interactions, in which the multi-energy trading with energy networks and multi-energy couplings within MGs are optimized in the upper and middle level, and a middle level is added to correct scheduling decisions of the upper level for coordinating the MMG multi-energy sharing. Then, a multi-step matrix decomposition technique is developed to decompose the high dimensional multi-energy coupling matrix of MMGs into the sum of three linear and sparse submatrices for improving the computation efficiency and scalability. Furthermore, a many-criteria decision making (MCDM) model is proposed for the multi-energy sharing problem to achieve an optimum tradeoff in which all microgrids (MGs) can benefit from electricity-gas exchanges, and an evolutionary many-objective optimization based on hyperplane transformation algorithm is used to solve the MCDM problem. Recently, decomposition has gained a wide interest in solving multi-objective optimization problems involving more than three objectives also known as Many-objective Optimization Problems (MaOPs). In the last few years, there have been many proposals to use decomposition to solve unconstrained problems. However, fewer is the amount of works that has been devoted to propose new decomposition-based algorithms to solve constrained many-objective problems. In this paper, we propose the ISC-Pareto dominance (Isolated Solution-based Constrained Pareto dominance) relation that has the ability to: (1) handle constrained many-objective problems characterized by different types of difficulties and (2) favor the selection of not only infeasible solutions associated to isolated sub-regions but also infeasible solutions with smaller CV (Constraint Violation) values. Our constraint handling strategy has been integrated into the framework of the Constrained Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-III (C-NSGA-III) to produce a new algorithm called Isolated Solution-based Constrained NSGA-III (ISC-NSGA-III). The empirical results have demonstrated that our constraint handling strategy is able to provide better and competitive results when compared against three recently proposed constrained decomposition-based many-objective evolutionary algorithms in addition to a penalty-based version of NSGA-III on the CDTLZ benchmark problems involving up to fifteen objectives.
