The Schallmesswagen (SMW) of DB Systemtechnik checks the acoustic condition of the superstructure and is mainly used for the inspection of sections with the measure "specially monitored track” (BüG). Furthermore, the SMW is used for quality control and acceptance of acoustic rail grinding work. In the event that an BüG section cannot be used by the SMW for operational or technical reasons, the replacement measure RMF-BüG was developed from 2001 onwards. This method should be able to replace the measuring tasks of the SMW by means of continuous roughness measurements on both rails. In the RMF-BüG procedure only the rail roughness was taken into account for the calculation of the SMW level. Numerous measurements have shown that the rolling noise of the SMW also depends significantly on the track decay rate (TDR). The method presented here shows that it is possible to determine the SMW level validly using the single value of the rail roughness LγCA and the single value of the TDR LXDR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
