With the advent of column materials that can be used effectively at temperatures well over 100 °C, high temperature liquid chromatography (HTLC) separations have gained more attention in the last few years. Advantages of HTLC include fast analysis time, better selectivity, improved column efficiency, and minimization of the use of organic solvents involved in the mobile phase. With the rapid heat transfer of packed capillary and open tubular columns, the use of temperature programming can supplement the use of gradient elution. Separation using high-temperature water as the sole eluent has shown a great potential as an alternative reversed-phase LC technique with the effect of having a ‘greener’ mobile phase system. In this paper, silica-based, metal oxide-based, polymer, monolithic, and temperature-responsive stationary phases have been reviewed. The article presents information on plotters. Like the computers they connect with, engineering plotters are becoming faster, more powerful and easier to use. New technologies give engineers additional ways to create hard copies of their designs. As plotters are getting more sophisticated, they are also getting simpler to use. One of the most important new plotter technologies to emerge recently is direct thermal transfer. Thermal plotters burn images into heat-sensitive paper. Direct thermal plotter operates quietly, provides quick check plots and adapts to wide ranges of humidity and temperature.

The article discusses two studies on heat transfer from different perspectives namely interfaces and surfaces. A team at the University of Illinois studied the atomic-scale mechanism of heat transfer between two interfacing surfaces and a technique was developed to study heat flow using laser pulses of a trillionth of a second with nanometer-depth resolution. A paper on heat transfer focusing on how surface roughness influences heath transfer in phase change cooling systems was also published.
