This article presents information on the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Exhibition and Conference that will be held at Newbury Racecourse in England on October 11 and 12, 2005. The EMC Conference program and booking details for the EMC 2005 conference is posted on the Web site www.emcuk.info. There are two streams and five modules consisting of 36 papers. The opening Module will include an address by Doedde Bakker, Chairman of Orgalime Technical Coordination Committee. This will be followed by a question and answer panel discussion covering the Guidelines for the new EMC Directive: the panel chaired by Dave Imeson, will include Peter Howick and Derek German. This opening Module is free to all comers. Modules 2 to 5 will concentrate on EMC Design and the Environment, EMC for Telecommunications, Automotive and Railways, Defence and Avionics. Among the papers are key names from British Aerospace. Admission to the Exhibition is free. Registration can be made via the Web site when a free CD ROM containing an Information Bank on EMC & Compliance matters will be sent to all registrants.

The article celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Society of the Environmental Engineers (SEE) in 2009. The Society united with the Institute of Environmental Engineering, forming the Institute of Environmental Sciences. A symposium was arranged by Ivor Knowles, head of a branch at the Royal Armament Research and Development Establishment, in December 1959, with papers covering the shock, vibration and climatic environments and their relationship to the reliability of military equipment. SEE was founded by Victor Weake, Knowles and Peter Grootenhuis.

This article deals with the consultation paper issued by Great Britain's Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs regarding a draft national implementation plan for the Stockholm, Sweden convention on persistent organic pollutants. There are several substances included in the Stockholm list including 10 pesticides, plus dioxins and furans that can be formed during combustion processes, where global action is needed. The deadline for views or comments on the draft national implementation plan is March 19, 2007.
