In Brazil, knowledge about the amplitude of the domestic violence is scarce. The violence is world wide recognized as a social issue that brings physical, emotional and social consequences to a vast number of people. Address the domestic violence theme, its clinical and psychological signs, to know behavior variations in the child and juvenile patient and analyze the role of the dentist surgeon when facing the possibility of mistreatment through a literature review. The literature review was conducted with the keywords domestic violence, child abuse, neglect and dentistry in the database of Medline, EBSCO, Pubmed, Scielo, and Lilacs, along with books, term papers and dissertations. It is vital for the oral health team to know the signs and symptoms of child and juvenile violence in order to adopt the measures advocated by the Child and Adolescent Statute and denunciate the suspected and confirmed cases, thus minimizing the sequels of the domestic violence for this age group. Aim: In this paper we developed, based on a bibliographical review, an historical perspective on the evolution of the perspectives on child maltreatment and children. We firstly address the concept of maltreatment, then passing through Antiquity and the Middle Ages, where children were subject to constant abuse, being prevalent the physical abuse, sexual abuse and child labour; then progressing to the Modern Age, where the child is seen as having specific characteristics and needing special care. We briefly address the types of maltreatment nowadays and cultural variations. Conclusion: It is crucial to understand the impact that maltreatment has had throughout history and still has nowadays, being essential to consider these aspects in interventions to be developed in this area, taking into particular consideration the wide range of cultural variations increasingly present and evident. The family violence against children and adolescents is a major public health problem worldwide, whose incidence has increased in recent decades. Resulting power relations where the stronger overpowers the weaker, and eventually committing acts of physical and / or psychological violence within the family environment, resulting in injury and / or psychological trauma that can perpendurar throughout the life of the person assaulted. In order to minimize such violence Brazilian law provides for compulsory notification of suspected or confirmed cases of such violence by professionals from different fields of knowledge. In this context, this paper aims to present of literature review on coping with family violence against children and adolescents by multidisciplinary health care team. To reach the goal first proposed approach will be some important concepts regarding family violence against children and adolescents, the legal grounds that legitimize its notification and as the professionals that make up the multidisciplinary health care team can act on your face. A review of literature led to confirmation that domestic violence against children and adolescents is a complex phenomenon, and that the multidisciplinary team of health has a role of increasing importance in your face, because these professionals are able to identify the signs Alert and clinical evidence that contribute significantly to the diagnosis and suspicion of domestic violence in addition to being able to provide assistance to victims. The aim of this paper is to discuss some aspects of the problem of child sexual abuse, specifically incest, drawing on psychoanalysis and, in particular, the psychoanalytic practice proposed by Françoise Dolto, allowing the concepts of symbolic castration, symbolic function, and unconscious body image and language to take incest as the study object in order to propose a psychoanalytic clinic devoted to listening to the subject, going beyond the legal concerns of policies on reporting and complaints, but not interfering in them, reflecting on the role of the psychologist and psychoanalyst in the clinic for children of sexual abuse. At the same time that allegations of sexual abuse against children and adolescents are frequent, enhancing urgent protective measures for victims and punishment for the perpetrators, there is also an increasing frequency of void allegations. This paper aims to review, from recent national and international literature, the role of psychological examination in child and adolescent sexual abuse. The literature review shows that since lack of physical evidence is common, a wide psychological evaluation is essential, and must integrate different information sources and indicators, some of which are inconsistent and nonspecific. Objective: The aim of this paper was to examine the relationship between childhood maltreatment and adult psychopathology, as reflected in hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis dysfunction. Method: A selective review of the relevant literature was undertaken in order to identify key and illustrative research findings. Results: There is now a substantial body of preclinical and clinical evidence derived from a variety of experimental paradigms showing how early-life stress is related to hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis function and psychological state in adulthood, and how that relationship can be modulated by other factors. Discussion: The risk for adult psychopathology and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis dysfunction is related to a complex interaction among multiple experiential factors, as well as to susceptibility genes that interact with those factors. Although acute hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis responses to stress are generally adaptive, excessive responses can lead to deleterious effects. Early-life stress alters hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis function and behavior, but the pattern of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal dysfunction and psychological outcome in adulthood reflect both the characteristics of the stressor and other modifying factors. Conclusion: Research to date has identified multiple determinants of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis dysfunction seen in adults with a history of childhood maltreatment or other early-life stress. Further work is needed to establish whether hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis abnormalities in this context can be used to develop risk endophenotypes for psychiatric and physical illnesses.
