The essay examines the project 'revolving Hi:stories. Narrations of Performance Art in Switzerland', a research endeavor consisting of an exhibition and a research conference in 2022. The goal of the project is to re-write the hi:story of Performance Art in Switzerland from its beginnings until today in a collective way. A crucial strategy for this oral history based research, is the participatory mapping process, where the recordings of oral history are also indexed in diagrammatic forms. First, the project "Revolving Hi:stories" is described and contextualized in the framework of recent discourses on curatorial and activist engagement by scholars like Maura Reilly or Marina Vishmidt. In a second step, the mapping and diagrammatic activities of the project based on Lepecki's theory of choreopolitics and Elisabeth Bronfen's concept of crossmapping are thoroughly analyzed. Finally, for the first time, a description of important groups and sites for the activist performance scene in Zurich is given, based on numerous interviews and the mapping sessions in 2021 - which the authors realized together with Chris Regn, Andrea Saemann, Clemens Fellmann and Tancredi Gusman. Different models have been used in science and practice to identify instream large-wood (LW) sources and to estimate LW supply to rivers. This contribution reviews the existing models proposed in the last 35 years and compares two of the most recent geographic information system (GIS)-based models by applying them to 40 catchments in Switzerland. Both models, which we call here the empirical GIS approach (EGA) and fuzzy-logic GIS approach (FGA), consider landslides, debris flows, bank erosion, and mobilization of instream wood as recruitment processes and compute volumetric estimates of LW supply based on three different scenarios of process frequency and magnitude. Despite being developed following similar concepts and fed with similar input data, the results from the two models differ markedly. In general, estimated supply wood volumes were larger in each of the scenarios when computed with the FGA and lower with the EGA models. Landslides were the dominant process identified by the EGA, whereas bank erosion was the predominant process according to the FGA model. These differences are discussed, and results are compared to available observations coming from a unique database. In the second half of the 1990s, Switzerland established a new state regime of spatial-territorial exclusion in order to keep people out of certain urban areas. From a power-analytical perspective, this reveals a repressive sovereign power banishment. At the same time, novel organizations for outreach social work with public order service tasks emerged, using softer governmental tactics of spatial exclusion. Using two empirical case examples from our ethnographic research, we show how this new type of organization is able to extend the sovereign exclusionary formation of foreign nationals and police law. Our analysis focuses on a marginalized group of foreigners with precarious residence status who ultimately are being deported or put in detention. For them, the social work's soft power banishment represents a lawless but sovereign power that creates territorial exclusion without having to enact, command or enforce it. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although Gino Severini is recognised as a leading exponent of European avant-garde movements through the first half of the twentieth century, his work as a mural painter is little known. This article reports the technical study of Severini's wall paintings for the Swiss church of Saint Nicolas de Myre in Semsales (1924–1926), in the framework of a research project coordinated by the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland and financed by the Swiss National Science Foundation. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, the project investigates the wall paintings made by the artist in five churches in Switzerland and dating between 1924 and 1947, with the aim of clarifying the artist's mural painting techniques. Following research in the parish archives and in those of the Severini family, the project proceeded in the different churches with in situ examination (diffuse and raking visible light, UV radiation, digital microscopy) supported by non-invasive scientific investigation (technical photography and spectroscopic point analyses) and laboratory invasive analyses on micro-samples. Lastly, the data from all the various sources are collected and interrelated. The artist's first commission, in 1924 at Semsales, became the longest and most complex, given the artist's relative lack of mural experience, the extent of surfaces, and variety of techniques adopted. The investigation reveals a long process in which Severini mastered a secco procedures using organic binders, on plasters that had already been applied, flanked by works in the tradition of a fresco painting, enriched with a modern palette of colours. Underlying all this work was a long process of planning, in which the artist associated the differing techniques with variations in style, in an extremely personal language between cubism and classicism. The author discusses a survey of companies with art collections in German-speaking countries—Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Drawing on the data collected in the survey, he highlights the differences between two groups of curators currently responsible for corporate art collections, the "new professionals" and the "management administrators." First, organizational changes in corporations that occurred during the "founding boom" of the 1990s had a significant effect on the roles of corporate art managers, introducing the art-educated "new professional" into the process, which before then had been controlled by the corporate-trained "management administrators." Second, the nature, content, and styles of current corporate art collections reflect specific "corporate cultures." Third, the "new professional" corporate art curators purchase contemporary art for their collections at art fairs, a reality that has significant impact on the art market. The author concludes with an analysis of the relationship between these new professional corporate collectors and the contemporary art market by highlighting significant changes in pre- and post-1990 corporate art collections. This article introduces the new research project of the Geneva Art-Law Centre, which aims to study alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods for art-related disputes. It gives a brief introduction on the topic of the research the project - the significant potential of ADR mechanisms in art law - and provides an overview of the growing international consideration for ADR in art-law matters. While types of art-related disputes vary considerably from case to case, certain common features may be identified to explain the need for adapted dispute resolution in this area. The Art-Law Centre's research project will involve the creation of an Art-Law ADR Database recording art-related disputes worldwide that were resolved by means of ADR methods, as well as a thorough case analysis. The article focuses on African art in museums. It explores the Museum of Ethnography in Geneva (MEG) in Geneva, Switzerland for its renovation of gallery spaces. Information about the history of ethnographic museums and their role in culture and society is offered and the issue of globalization is discussed. Other museums mentioned in the article include the British Museum in London, England and the Louvre and the Musée de quai Branly, both in Paris, France. The differences between ethnographic museums and art museums are examined and the goals of the MEG are elaborated and its galleries, facility, and exhibitions are described.

The Electric Retina is an interactive sculpture built by the artist Jill Scott. This project is the result of her residency at the Institute of Zoology (Zurich) neurobiological laboratory and is an artistic interpretation of the lab's research on zebrafish vision. This trans-disciplinary collaboration has served to communicate scientific findings to the general public. Moreover, learning different styles and modes of communication required for interfacing with the general public and with the artist has been a worthwhile experience for the scientists involved. The Physics of Aesthetics conference in Barcelona introduced the paradigms of the liveliest aspects of physics. One hundred years after Einstein's annus mirabilis, physics continues making progress, and the authors participated with internationally well-known scientists in drawing the outline of its more attractive face. Universal questions naturally arose, relating to the limits of our perception, the design of matter and the narrative of the complexity surrounding us. In the context of migratory instabilities, an increasing number of professionals engage in repeated moves across countries with their families, living more or less permanently on the move. Yet the international adjustments of these families are usually studied in terms of the adaptation of family members to a single host country. This article uses in-depth interviews conducted with families in repeated geographical mobility and currently living in Switzerland to identify the strategies enabling them to move across countries while adjusting to diverse sociocultural environments. By bringing together studies on psychology with those on migration and mobility, the article introduces the specific challenge of repeated geographical mobility and sets out a theoretical framework for understanding this phenomenon from a sociocultural perspective. It then presents three types of strategies employed by families. The findings show that against the backdrop of constant changes, families recreate the same spheres of experience everywhere, transform their relations to objects, and build a continuum of social relationships by enlarging their social networks while focusing inward on the relationships within the nuclear family. The analyses bring to the fore a new modality of establishing a sense of continuity that involves a complete reconfiguration of investments so to embrace more complex ways to cope with the apparent concurrent requirement of adjusting to a new country while preserving some degree of mobility in view of the next move. The Advanced REACH Tool (ART) is the most sophisticated tool used for evaluating exposure levels under the European Union's Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of CHemicals (REACH) regulations. ART provides estimates at different percentiles of exposure and within different confidence intervals (CIs). However, its performance has only been tested on a limited number of exposure data. The present study compares ART's estimates with exposure measurements collected over many years in Switzerland. Measurements from 584 cases of exposure to vapours, mists, powders, and abrasive dusts (wood/stone and metal) were extracted from a Swiss database. The corresponding exposures at the 50th and 90th percentiles were calculated in ART. To characterize the model's performance, the 90% CI of the estimates was considered. ART's performance at the 50th percentile was only found to be insufficiently conservative with regard to exposure to wood/stone dusts, whereas the 90th percentile showed sufficient conservatism for all the types of exposure processed. However, a trend was observed with the residuals, where ART overestimated lower exposures and underestimated higher ones. The median was more precise, however, and the majority (≥60%) of real-world measurements were within a factor of 10 from ART's estimates. The Carolingian wall paintings on the upper floor in the Chapel of the Holy Cross were conserved from 2008 till 2016. In support of these measures and the investigations on the construction history, the interior decoration, renders, whitewashes and painting materials were analysed. Towards the end of the conservation work and in view of the future public display of the wall paintings to a larger public, the question was risen whether it would be possible to make the depictions more clearly visible by special photographic techniques, and if these photographic techniques could also help to transfer the laboratory results of a few individual samples to the surface area. This led to the investigation of selected areas of the wall paintings using multispectral imaging (MSI). In this paper, we report on the results of the laboratory analysis and of the scientific photography. It shows how the two methods have supplemented and supported each other during the investigation of the Chapel of the Holy Cross, how these results complemented the observations relevant to restoration and conservation, and how these observations enabled the interpretation of the scientific photography and laboratory results. This paper focuses on the normative notion of ‘good death’, its practical relevance as a frame of reference for ‘death work’ procedures in institutional elder care in Switzerland and the ways in which it may be challenged within migrant ‘dying trajectories’. In contemporary palliative care, the concept of ‘good death’ focuses on the ideal of an autonomous dying person, cared for under a specialised biomedical authority. Transferred to the nursing home context, characterised by long-term basic care for the very old under conditions of scarce resources, the notion of ‘good death’ is broken down into ready-to-use, pragmatic elements of daily routines. At the same time, nursing homes are increasingly confronted with socially and culturally diversified populations. Based on ethnographic findings, we give insight into current practices of institutional ‘death work’ and tensions arising between contradicting notions of a ‘good death’, by referring to decision-making, life-prolonging measures, notions on food/feeding and the administration of sedative painkillers. Background:The contemporary occupational therapy literature suggests that different quality criteria exist for setting goals in occupational therapy: a focus on occupation; a link to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF); and adherence to the SMART recommendations, which advises goals to be specific, measurable, agreed, realistic, and timed.Aim:To identify the extent to which Swiss occupational therapists (OTs) adhere to the criteria cited above.Material:A total of 1 129 goals formulated with the Goal Attainment Scale (GAS) collected in 2008.Results:In slightly more than half the investigated cases at least one goal addressed an aspect of occupation. Nearly two-thirds of the goals related to the ICF component “activity and participation”. Nearly 90% of the goals were specific, measurable, and/or realistic.Conclusions:Goals mirror, to some extent, what is done in everyday practice. Several influences on goal formulations of OTs were identified, including the practice models traditionally used in different specialist fields; the cultural contexts in which OTs were trained; and the legal framework that obliges OTs to formulate their goals in a certain way in order to obtain funding for their services.Significance:Based on these results evidence-based products have been developed (a further education course; written recommendations for practice). We should be inventing new connections between artistic activity and a range of other human activities through the construction of a democratic public space, outside of the traditional spaces for art; a zone of ‘indistinction’ of life and art, that allows a knowledge exchange, and where collectivity and commitment can be reaffirmed. In this article I analyse my practice as the director of the Festival Belluard Bollwerk International, in Fribourg, Switzerland, from 2007 to 2013. How can an art festival function as an interface between art and everyday life, as an agora? I draw on the work of Jean Rancière to argue that we were thriving in a zone of indistinction of life and art, where the agency of the art projects we produced consisted within their presence and their disturbance of the everyday, rather than in making concrete political or social claims. Furthermore, the subject of community in artistic practice is developed in relation to useful art and the exchange of knowledge in an emancipated way. Background: The aim of this study was to investigate predictors of state-of-the-art management of early breast cancer in Switzerland.Patients and methods: The study included 3499 women aged 25–79 years diagnosed with invasive breast cancer stages I–IIIA in 2003–2005. Patients were identified through population-based cancer registries and treated in all kinds of settings. Concordance with national and international recommendations was assessed for 10 items covering surgery, radiotherapy, systemic adjuvant therapy and histopathology reporting. We used multivariate logistic regression to identify independent predictors of high (10 points) and low (≤7 points) concordance.Results: In one-third of the patients, management met guidelines in all items, whereas in about one-fifth, three or more items did not comply. Treatment by a surgeon with caseload in the upper tercile and team involved in clinical research were independent predictors of a high score, whereas treatment by a surgeon with a caseload in the lower tercile was associated with a low score. Socioeconomic characteristics such as income and education were not independent predictors, but patient's place of residence and age independently predicted management according to recommendations.Conclusion: Specialization and involvement in clinical research seem to be key elements for enhancing the quality of early breast cancer management at population level. The article presents a detailed comparison of the Swiss and German policy-making process regarding the issue of assisted reproductive technology (ART). A brief overview of the different stages of the decision-making processes in both countries since the beginning of the 1980s is discussed. The resulting policies of both countries are compared in order to reveal the similarities in terms of policy style. It also offers an explanation for the policy choices in each country. The article concludes by comparing the explanations for the two countries.

Switzerland is one of the countries with some of the longest and best glaciological data sets. Its glaciers and their changes in response to climate have been extensively investigated, and the number and quality of related studies are notable. However, a comprehensive review of glacier changes and their impact on the hydrology of glacierised catchments for Switzerland is missing and we use the opportunity provided by the EU-FP7 ACQWA project to review the current state of knowledge about past changes and future projections. We examine the type of models that have been applied to infer glacier evolution and identify knowledge gaps that should be addressed in future research in addition to those indicated in previous publications. Common characteristics in long-term series of projected future glacier runoff are an initial peak followed by a decline, associated with shifts in seasonality, earlier melt onset and reduced summer runoff. However, the quantitative predictions are difficult to compare, as studies differ in terms of model structure, calibration strategies, input data, temporal and spatial resolution as well as future scenarios used for impact studies. We identify two sources of uncertainties among those emerging from recent research, and use simulations over four glaciers to: i) quantify the importance of the correct extrapolation of air temperature, and ii) point at the key role played by debris cover in modulating glacier response. Online communication has become a central part in the communication repertoires of political actors in Western mass democracies. In Switzerland, where broadband, internet use, and media literacy are amongst the highest in the world, all major political parties run their own website and are active on social media. This article seeks to show how Swiss political parties deal with social media, how they implement it and how they use social media. The study builds on empirical data from a structural analysis of party websites, the official Facebook sites, and Twitter feeds. These social media sites were analysed for their resonance, update frequency, and thematic clusters focusing on information, mobilization, and participation. A weekly assessment of the user numbers illustrates the development of user resonance throughout the 2011 election year. While political parties claim to appreciate the dialogue and mobilization potentials of social media, they mainly use social media as an additional channel to spread information and electoral propaganda. The overall resonance is still on a very low level. The data seem to sustain the normalization hypothesis, as larger parties with more resources and voters are better able to generate effective communication and to mobilize online than small and marginal parties. Purpose: Recent work practices in the conservation and restoration involve the use of cyclododecane (CDD, CAS 294-62-2) to protect fragile artifacts during their handling or transportation. Little is known about its toxicity, and no previous exposure has been reported. A short field investigation was conducted to characterize the exposure conditions to both CDD vapors and aerosols. Methods: Measurements were conducted in the laboratory of conservation and restoration of the archeological service in Bern (Switzerland). Three indoor and four outdoor typical work situations, either during brush or spray gun applications, were investigated. Measurements were performed on charcoal adsorbent tube and analyzed by a gas chromatograph equipped with a flame ionization detector. Results: Measurements have been conducted during both brush and spray gun applications. Indoor exposures were of 0.75-15.5 mg/m, while outdoors exposures were 19.5-53.9 mg/m. Exposures appear to be extremely localized due to both physicochemical properties and application methods of the CDD. Vapor exposure increases dramatically with the confinement of the workplace. Conclusion: Preventive measures should be undertaken to limit as much as possible these exposures. Field work in confined areas (ditches, underground) is of particular concern. Abstract: Objective: To investigate actual counseling models for gynecological patients in Switzerland and in Germany. Methods: A questionnaire investigating psychosomatic care was sent to all Swiss (N=183) and German (N=1078) departments of gynecology, obstetrics, and/or endocrinology. Results: One hundred twenty-eight (27%) completed questionnaires from Germany and 57 (31%) from Switzerland were available for statistical evaluation. Eighty-seven percent of the answering clinics from Switzerland and 93% of those from Germany (ns) considered psychosomatic counseling for gynecological and obstetrical patients as very important or important. Seventy-two percent of the Swiss and 70% of the German departments (ns) offered psychosomatic support. Models of counseling varied greatly between types of hospitals and both countries. Less than 15% of the medical doctors had a formation for psychosomatic counseling. Conclusion: Actual possibilities seem to be below the need for psychosomatic care. An adequate formation of medical doctors and considering the effects of psychosomatic care in the discussion on cost reduction for medical treatment would help to improve counseling structures. Economics tries to explain unique chains of historical events. Economic doctrines, however, are mostly pieces of logics with few references to testable propositions. However, to criticize this lack of 'testable hypotheses' is a misapplication of POPPER's ideas. History being unique, empirical propositions in economics have to be tailored to individual cases. Economic doctrines, like a chess handbook, are a collection of prefabricated elements promising to be helpful in this task. Background: Dolutegravir (DTG)-based dual therapy is becoming a new paradigm for both the initiation and maintenance of HIV treatment. The SIMPL'HIV study investigated the outcomes of virologically suppressed patients on standard combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) switching to DTG + emtricitabine (FTC). We present the 48-week efficacy and safety data on DTG + FTC versus cART.Methods and Findings: SIMPL'HIV was a multicenter, open-label, non-inferiority randomized trial with a factorial design among treatment-experienced people with HIV in Switzerland. Participants were enrolled between 12 May 2017 and 30 May 2018. Patients virologically suppressed for at least 24 weeks on standard cART were randomized 1:1 to switching to DTG + FTC or to continuing cART, and 1:1 to simplified patient-centered monitoring versus standard monitoring. The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients virologically suppressed with <100 copies/ml through 48 weeks. The secondary endpoints included virological suppression at 48 weeks according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) snapshot analysis. Non-inferiority of DTG + FTC versus cART for viral suppression was assessed using a stratified Mantel-Haenszel risk difference, with non-inferiority declared if the lower bound of the 95% confidence interval was greater than -12%. Adverse events were monitored to assess safety. Quality of life was evaluated using the PROQOL-HIV questionnaire. Ninety-three participants were randomized to DTG + FTC, and 94 individuals to cART. Median nadir CD4 count was 246 cells/mm3; median age was 48 years; 17% of participants were female. DTG + FTC was non-inferior to cART. The proportion of patients with viral suppression (<100 copies/ml) through 48 weeks was 93.5% in the DTG + FTC arm and 94.7% in the cART arm in the intention-to-treat population (risk difference -1.2%; 95% CI -7.8% to 5.6%). Per-protocol analysis showed similar results, with viral suppression in 96.5% of patients in both arms (risk difference 0.0%; 95% CI -5.6% to 5.5%). There was no relevant interaction between the type of treatment and monitoring (interaction ratio 0.98; 95% CI 0.85 to 1.13; p = 0.81). Using the FDA snapshot algorithm, 84/93 (90.3%) participants in the DTG + FTC arm had an HIV-1 RNA viral load of <50 copies/ml compared to 86/94 (91.5%) participants on standard cART (risk difference -1.1%; 95% CI -9.3% to 7.1%; p = 0.791). The overall proportion of patients with adverse events and discontinuations did not differ by randomization arm. The proportion of patients with serious adverse events was higher in the cART arm (16%) compared to the DTG + FTC arm (6.5%) (p = 0.041), but none was considered to be related to the study medication. Quality of life improved more between baseline and week 48 in the DTG + FTC compared to the cART arm (adjusted difference +2.6; 95% CI +0.4 to +4.7). The study's main limitations included a rather small proportion of women included, the open label design, and its short duration.Conclusions: In this study, DTG + FTC as maintenance therapy was non-inferior to cART in terms of efficacy, with a similar safety profile and a greater improvement in quality of life, thus expanding the offer of 2-drug simplification options among virologically suppressed individuals.Trial Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03160105. Background Advancements in access to antiretroviral therapy (ART) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) care have led to a decline in AIDS-related deaths among people with HIV (PWH) in Switzerland. However, data on the ongoing changes in causes of death among PWH over the past 15 years are scarce. Methods We investigated all reported deaths in the Swiss HIV Cohort Study between 2005 and 2022. Causes of death were categorized using the Coding Causes of Death in HIV protocol. The statistical analysis included demographic stratification to identify time trends and logistic regression models to determine associated factors for the underlying cause of death. Results In total, 1630 deaths were reported, with 23.7% of individuals assigned female sex at birth. These deaths included 147 (9.0%) HIV/AIDS-related deaths, 373 (22.9%) due to non-AIDS, non-hepatic cancers, 166 (10.2%) liver-related deaths, and 158 (9.7%) cardiovascular-related deaths. The median age at death (interquartile range) increased from 45.0 (40.0–53.0) years in 2005–2007 to 61.0 (56.0–69.5) years in 2020–2022. HIV/AIDS- and liver-related deaths decreased, whereas deaths from non-AIDS, non-hepatic cancers increased and cardiovascular-related deaths remained relatively stable. Conclusions The proportionally decreasing HIV/AIDS and liver-related deaths showcase the effectiveness of ART, comprehensive HIV patient care, and interventions targeting hepatitis C virus coinfection. Future research should focus on managing cancer and cardiovascular-related conditions as the new leading causes of death among PWH. Study Question: Does the gonadotropin (GN) starting dose and the addition of clomiphene citrate (CC) during the early follicular phase influence oocyte yield in poor responders undergoing ovarian stimulation for IVF treatment?Summary Answer: The number of retrieved oocytes was similar regardless of the starting dose of GN (150 versus 450 IU) with or without the addition of CC (100 mg from Day 3 to 7 versus placebo).What Is Known Already: ART in poor responders is a challenge for patients and clinicians. So far, randomised controlled studies addressing interventions have shown that neither the GN dose nor the addition of oral medication has any significant effect on the clinical outcome of ART in poor responders. There is limited knowledge about the effect of GN starting dose in combination with CC during the early follicular phase of ovarian stimulation on ovarian response markers and ART outcome.Study Design, Size, Duration: This single-centre randomised double-blinded clinical trial was conducted from August 2013 until November 2017. Using the Bologna criteria, 220 of 2288 patients (9.6%) were identified as poor responders and 114 eligible participants underwent ovarian stimulation in a GnRH-antagonist protocol for ART.Participants/materials, Setting, Methods: The participants were equally randomised to one of four treatment arms: Group A (n = 28) received 100 mg CC (Day 3-7) and a starting dose of 450 IU HMG, Group B (n = 29) received 100 mg CC and a starting dose of 150 IU HMG, Group C (n = 30) received placebo and a starting dose of 450 IU HMG and Group D (n = 27) received placebo and a starting dose of 150 IU HMG. Serum levels of FSH, LH, estradiol and progesterone were measured on Day 1 and 5 and on the day of ovulation induction. Available embryos were cultured up to the blastocyst stage and were always transferred in the same cycle. The primary outcome was the number of oocytes collected after ovarian stimulation. Other outcome measures were response to ovarian stimulation, embryo development and obstetrical outcome.Main Results and the Role Of Chance: All study participants (n = 114) fulfilled at least two of the Bologna criteria for poor responders. Median age of the study population was 38.5 years. There were 109 patients who underwent oocyte retrieval. The number of oocytes retrieved was similar among the groups (±SD; 95% confidence intervals); A: 2.85 (±0.48; 2.04-3.98), B: 4.32 (±0.59; 3.31-5.64); C: 3.33 (±0.52; 2.45-4.54); D: 3.22 (±0.51; 2.36-4.41); P overall = 0.246. However, ovarian stimulation with 150 IU plus CC resulted in a higher number of blastocysts compared to ovarian stimulation with 450 IU plus CC (±SD; 95% confidence intervals); A: 0.83 (±0.15; 0.58-1.2), B: 1.77 (±0.21; 1.42-2.22); P overall = 0.006. Mean FSH serum levels were lower in the groups with a starting dose of 150 IU. Adding CC did not affect mean serum FSH levels. There were no differences in estradiol concentrations among the groups. Endometrial thickness was lower in the groups receiving CC. The overall live birth rate (LBR) was 12.3%, and the cumulative LBR was 14.7%.Limitations, Reasons For Caution: The trial was powered to detect differences in neither the number of blastocysts nor the LBR, which would be the preferable primary outcome of interventional trials in ART.Wider Implications Of the Findings: We found that ovarian stimulation with 150 IU gonadotrophin in combination with 100 mg CC produced more blastocysts. The effect of adding CC to GN on LBR in poor responders remains to be proven in randomised trials. High GN doses (450 IU) resulted in high FSH serum levels but increased neither the estradiol levels nor the number of retrieved oocytes, implying that granulosa cell function is not improved by high FSH serum levels. Lower starting doses of GN lead to a reduction of costs of medication. This article examines a group of five ink, pen and wash drawings produced by the Anglo-Swiss artist Henry Fuseli in the mid-eighteenth century in Zurich. The drawings were produced for a Narrenbuch (Book of Fools) uniting visual images of folly with humorous slogans. The drawings are significant in that they imitate sixteenth-century print culture and pedagogic literary genres based around the figure of the fool by humanist writers such as Sebastian Brant and Erasmus. The article argues that Fuseli's conception of the Narrenbuch was a criticism of the ascetic methods of teaching employed at the Carolinum Collegium where he was training to become a Reformist Minister before he later became a well-known artist in Britain. Furthermore, it argues that the Narrenbuch was also supposed to function as a type of male conduct book, thereby revealing the significant contribution Fuseli's early works made to visual modes of instruction. By showing the extent to which Fuseli's early drawings borrow from historical precedents and attitudes of Zurich intellectuals, the artist's role as pedagogue is considered. By using Fuseli as a case study, the article suggests that artists often do more than 'just' produce works of a didactic nature; rather their working methods, formalistic concerns and intellectual environment can all contribute to the potential pedagogic implications of their works. Abstract: In a parallel study, it has been shown by comparison of successive TV-holography campaigns that murals in the convent of Müstair (Switzerland) have progressively detached from their substrate over a time interval of 5 years (J Cult Herit 2009). Here, we focus on the dynamics of the ongoing detachment processes. In order to regularly measure small surface displacements in situ over a long duration of several years, a new method that we call Mirror Micrometry (MM) has been designed and implemented. This method monitors the reflection of a light beam by a mirror that is mounted to the surface of interest for the duration of the experiment. The mirror is designed to rotate about a pivot as small displacements in the detaching surface occur, thus deflecting the reflected light beam. Measurements over more than three years in the Convent Church and in the Holy Cross Chapel reveal various types of surface displacement perpendicular to the wall surface. These are correlated with relative humidity (RH) changes in the room climate. Reversible short-term variations of approximately ±5–10μm occur with periods of one to several weeks and relate primarily to weather changes. Reversible long-term variations of ±5–10μm correspond to averaged seasonal humidity changes. Irregular and irreversible movements in increments of 20–30μm record very localised progressive detachment steps. A semi-quantitative correlation of approximately 1μm surface displacement per 1% RH change is calculated. Based on the fact that nearby measuring points can simultaneously move in opposite directions, a geometric model is drawn to explain deformation by hygric swelling and shrinking of different shapes of detached layers. Abstract: This survey was conducted in developing a final specialized examination for all arts therapists in Switzerland by the Council of Swiss Arts Therapy Associations (CSATA). Forty-eight generic key competencies (GKC) were sent to all 1235 arts therapists in five different disciplines in Switzerland (response 47.5%) and to 384 referring professionals and employers (RPE) listed by therapists (response 42%). The mean importance of GKC was rated high (4 points of 5) by practitioners and RPE. Different opinions on importance of GKC in disciplines included artistic ability and psychotherapeutic relative to medical orientation. The training of competencies was rated lower by practitioners (3.48 points) and different in the eight competence categories and five disciplines. Areas of weak training were identified. The performance of GKC was rated by referring professionals equally to its importance (mean +0.3 points) and showed a good understanding of competencies by RPE. Judging of performance was difficult for RPE in more than 20% of items. The results provide criteria for detailed outcome assessments and the advancement of a final examination for arts therapists in Switzerland. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Background: The burden of herpes zoster (shingles) virus and associated complications, such as post-herpetic neuralgia, is higher in older adults and has a significant impact on quality of life. The incidence of herpes zoster and post-herpetic neuralgia is increased in people living with HIV (PLWH) compared to an age-matched general population, including PLWH on long-term antiretroviral therapy (ART) with no detectable viremia and normal CD4 counts. PLWH – even on effective ART may- exhibit sustained immune dysfunction, as well as defects in cells involved in the response to vaccines. In the context of herpes zoster, it is therefore important to assess the immune response to varicella zoster virus vaccination in older PLWH and to determine whether it significantly differs to that of HIV-uninfected healthy adults or younger PLWH. We aim at bridging these knowledge gaps by conducting a multicentric, international, non-randomised clinical study (SHINGR'HIV) with prospective data collection after vaccination with an adjuvant recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV) in two distinct populations: in PLWH on long-term ART (> 10 years) over 50 years of and age/gender matched controls. Methods: We will recruit participants from two large established HIV cohorts in Switzerland and in France in addition to age-/gender-matched HIV-uninfected controls. Participants will receive two doses of RZV two months apart. In depth-evaluation of the humoral, cellular, and innate immune responses and safety profile of the RZV will be performed to address the combined effect of aging and potential immune deficiencies due to chronic HIV infection. The primary study outcome will compare the geometric mean titer (GMT) of gE-specific total IgG measured 1 month after the second dose of RZV between different age groups of PLWH and between PLWH and age-/gender-matched HIV-uninfected controls. Discussion: The SHINGR'HIV trial will provide robust data on the immunogenicity and safety profile of RZV in older PLWH to support vaccination guidelines in this population. Abstract The ability to remember, recognize and reconstruct places is a key component of episodic autobiographical memory. In this respect, place forms an essential basis for the unfolding of experiences in memory and imagination. The autobiographical memory is seen to contribute to a sense of self and place identity. The aim of this study was to concertedly analyze paintings, autobiographical narrations and places of birth and life of clients under treatment at a psychiatric clinic in Switzerland who were manifesting psychiatric disorders, e.g. depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, personality disorder, substance dependence, and dementia. Each client exhibited distinctive attitudes and approaches towards life characterized by unique personal mental constructs for living in given places of time episodes that worked towards shaping the development of their identities as well as the development of their health. For these clients, place and time function together to leave a mark, a trajectory, that can hinder or help the resolution of a psychiatric condition. Based on six representative cases, we illustrate how each painting, each biographical narration and each interview reveals deeper structures of individual perception, emotions, feelings, coping strategies, and capacities to reflect and identify with place-time trajectories. Based on this analysis, a place-time-identity model has been developed, which emphasizes the importance of narration, the structure of personality, and emotional experiences in the development of the 'relay station' of episodic autobiographical memory, self and autonoetic consciousness: these three elements are not only connected through their embeddedness in time, but also through their embeddedness in place. In this context, place provides an external fundus of memory, capable of supporting humans in healthy recollection and remembering. The process of placing appears to contribute to the creation of self-esteem and identity. Forming interpersonal therapeutic relationships with mental health Service Users remains a key aspect of the practice of Psychiatric/ Mental Health nurses. Given the omnipresence of the concept within the relevant literature the reader could be forgiven for asking: why would Psychiatric/ Mental Health nurses opine about something so basic, so ubiquitous and so central to the theory and practice of our discipline? While the authors could locate no substantive argument that refutes the role or value of such relationships, a sizable, growing and reasonably consistent body of work has emerged, which appears to indicate that this centrality and value is not necessarily reflected in many clinical practice settings. Accordingly, we draw on the published evaluations of mental health care emanating from the United Kingdom, Portugal, Canada, Switzerland, Germany and Australia, compare these findings and highlight similarities or/and congruence and discuss a range of issues arising out of the findings. Alas, the findings seem to depict a mental health care inpatient experience that is often devoid of warm therapeutic relationships, respectful interactions, information or choice about treatment and any kind of formal/informal 'talk therapy'. Instead such care experiences are personified by: coercion, disinterest, inhumane practices, custodial and controlling practitioners and a gross over use of pharmacological 'treatments'. Medieval wall paintings in the church of the monastery of St. John in Müstair (Switzerland) have been exposed to several fires over the last centuries. Non-invasive (hand-held-XRF) and microinvasive (PLM, SEM-EDX, XRPD, µ-Raman, and SERS) techniques were used to analyse 14 painted fragments from the Romanesque (c. 1200 CE) painting cycle recovered from the attic of the church above younger Gothic vaulting in order to study the microstratigraphy of the painted surfaces and determine alterations and newly formed products, with the aim of understanding if the darkening was directly attributable to contact with fire. Scientific, historical, and bibliographical research have shown that alteration processes in the pigments from these paintings are not directly linked with fires, except possibly for two lead-based painted fragments. Hail is a major threat associated with severe thunderstorms, and estimating the hail size is important for issuing warnings to the public. For the validation of existing operational, radar-derived hail estimates, ground-based observations are necessary. Automatic hail sensors, for example within the Swiss Hail Network, record the kinetic energy of hailstones to estimate the hail sizes. Due to the small size of the observational area of these sensors (0.2 m2), the full hail size distribution (HSD) cannot be retrieved. To address this issue, we apply a state-of-the-art custom trained deep learning object detection model to drone-based aerial photogrammetric data to identify hailstones and estimate the HSD. Photogrammetric data of hail on the ground were collected for one supercell thunderstorm crossing central Switzerland from southwest to northeast in the afternoon of 20 June 2021. The hail swath of this intense right-moving supercell was intercepted a few minutes after the passage at a soccer field near Entlebuch (canton of Lucerne, Switzerland) and aerial images were taken by a commercial DJI drone, equipped with a 45 -megapixel full-frame camera system. The resulting images have a ground sampling distance (GSD) of 1.5 mm per pixel, defined by the focal length of 35 mm of the camera and a flight altitude of 12 m above the ground. A 2-dimensional orthomosaic model of the survey area (750.4 m2) is created based on 116 captured images during the first drone mapping flight. Hail is then detected using a region-based convolutional neural network (Mask R-CNN). We first characterize the hail sizes based on the individual hail segmentation masks resulting from the model detections and investigate the performance using manual hail annotations by experts to generate validation and test data sets. The final HSD, composed of 18 207 hailstones, is compared with nearby automatic hail sensor observations, the operational weather-radar-based hail product MESHS (Maximum Expected Severe Hail Size) and crowdsourced hail reports. Based on the retrieved data set, a statistical assessment of sampling errors of hail sensors is carried out. Furthermore, five repetitions of the drone-based photogrammetry mission within 18.65 min facilitate investigations into the hail-melting process on the ground. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Heart Diseases have the highest mortality worldwide, necessitating precise predictive models for early risk assessment. Much existing research has focused on improving model accuracy with single datasets, often neglecting the need for comprehensive evaluation metrics and utilization of different datasets in the same domain (heart disease). This research introduces a heart disease risk prediction approach by harnessing the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) for feature selection and implementing a comprehensive evaluation framework. The study leverages five distinct datasets, including the combined dataset comprising the Cleveland, Long Beach VA, Switzerland, and Hungarian heart disease datasets. The others are the Z-AlizadehSani, Framingham, South African, and Cleveland heart datasets. The WOA-guided feature selection identifies optimal features, subsequently integrated into ten classification models. Comprehensive model evaluation reveals significant improvements across critical performance metrics, including accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. These enhancements consistently outperform state-of-the-art methods using the same dataset, validating the effectiveness of our methodology. The comprehensive evaluation framework provides a robust assessment of the model's adaptability, underscoring the WOA's effectiveness in identifying optimal features in multiple datasets in the same domain. Introduction: HIV programmes across many countries in Africa have recently transitioned people living with HIV from efavirenz (EFV)‐ to dolutegravir (DTG)‐containing antiretroviral therapy (ART). As both drugs are associated with neuropsychiatric adverse effects, this study assessed the mental health and HIV/ART‐associated symptoms of people living with HIV before and after transition to DTG. Methods: The prospective DO‐REAL cohort enrolled people starting DTG‐based ART in Lesotho from February to December 2020. For this analysis within DO‐REAL, we included adults changing from tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF)/lamivudine (3TC)/EFV to TDF/3TC/DTG within first‐line therapy. At transition and 16 weeks thereafter, participants completed the Patient Health Questionnaire‐9 (PHQ‐9; depression screening), the 12‐item Short‐Form Health Survey (SF‐12; mental and physical health), and a modified HIV Symptom Index (mHSI; HIV/ART‐related symptoms). We also assessed weight change. We used McNemar tests with Bonferroni corrections to assess binary outcomes. ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT04238767. Results: Among 1228 participants, 1131 completed follow‐up. Of these, 60.0% were female, the median age was 46 years (interquartile range [IQR] 38–55), and the median time taking ART was 5.7 years (IQR 3.5–8.9). No change was observed for weight or overall PHQ‐9 or SF‐12 outcomes. However, three mHSI items decreased at follow‐up: 'feeling sad/down/depressed' (bothered 6.0% vs. 3.3% of participants at least 'a little' before vs. after transition; adjusted p = 0.048); 'feeling nervous/anxious' (7.4% vs. 3.4%; adjusted p = 0.0009); and 'nightmares, strange/vivid dreams' (6.3% vs. 3.5%; adjusted p = 0.027). Individual PHQ‐9 or SF‐12 items also improved. Being symptom free across all measures increased from 5.1% to 11.4% (p < 0.0001). Introduction: Helping smokers to quit is an important task of general practitioners (GPs). However, achieving tobacco abstinence is difficult, and smokers who fail may still want to improve their health in other ways. Therefore, Swiss GPs developed a multithematic coaching concept that encourages health behavior changes beyond smoking cessation alone.Aims and Methods: To compare the effectiveness of such coaching with state-of-the-art smoking cessation counseling, we conducted a pragmatic cluster-randomized two-arm trial with 56 GPs in German-speaking Switzerland and 149 of their cigarette smoking patients. GPs were instructed in either multithematic health coaching or smoking cessation counseling. After 12 months, we compared their patients' improvements in cigarette consumption, body weight, physical inactivity, alcohol consumption, stress, unhealthy diet, and a health behavior of their own choice, using hierarchical logistic regression models and Fisher's exact and t tests.Results: Over 95% of all participants achieved clinically relevant improvements in at least one health behavior, with no difference between study arms (health coaching vs. smoking cessation counseling: aOR = 1.21, 95% CI = [0.03-50.76]; and aOR = 1.78, 95% CI = [0.51-6.25] after non-responder imputation). Rates of clinically relevant improvements in the individual health behaviors did not differ between study arms either (they were most frequent in physical activity, achieved by 3 out of 4 patients), nor did the extent of the improvements.Conclusions: Multithematic health coaching and state-of-the art smoking cessation counseling were found to be comparable interventions, both in terms of smoking cessation success and, quite unexpectedly, their effects on other health behaviors.Implications: The findings of our study suggest that in general practice, multithematic health coaching is an effective smoking cessation intervention, and conversely, monothematic smoking cessation counseling also achieves the beneficial effects of a multithematic health behavior intervention.
