The article offers updates on several digitization projects across the world. Europeana, the European Digital Library, is scheduled to become a reality in November 2008. In August 2008, the European Commission raised concerns that cultural institutions across Europe were not digitizing enough material. In a communication from the commission, allegations revealed that only one percent of archival material in the 2.5 billion book collections of Europe's libraries is available in digital form. Meanwhile, the National Library of Estonia will be canceling its plans to submit digitized materials to the Europeana project.
