This research introduces the NeuRaiSya (Neural Railway System Application), an innovative railway signaling system integrating deep learning for passenger analysis. The objectives of this research are to simulate the NeuRaiSya and evaluate its effectiveness using the GreatSPN tool (graphical editor for Petri nets). GreatSPN facilitates evaluations of system behavior, ensuring safety and efficiency. Five models were designed and simulated using the Petri nets model, including the Dynamics of Train Departure model, Train Operations with Passenger Counting model, Timestamp Data Collection model, Train Speed and Location model, and Train Related-Issues model. Through simulations and modeling using Petri nets, the study demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed NeuRaiSya system. The results highlight its potential in enhancing railway operations, ensuring passenger safety, and maintaining service quality amidst the evolving railway landscape in the Philippines. The Cucumber Productivity Simulation Model (CPSM) was developed to precisely predict the dynamic process of cucumber productivity in a solar greenhouse. This research conducted a variety of sowing experiments and collected data on cucumber productivity and meteorological conditions from 2013 to 2015 and 2018 to 2020. Employing the principles of least squares, the relationship between cucumber productivity indicators and effective accumulated temperature (EAT) was fitted, determining key crop parameters and constructing the CPSM. Validation of the model was conducted using independent experimental data, evaluating its simulation accuracy. The results indicate that (1) CPSM can dynamically and meticulously simulate the formation process of different productivity indicators in cucumber. Normalized root mean square errors (NRMSE) ranged from 0.44% to 19.64%, and mean relative errors (MRE) ranged from 0.31% to 17.23% across different productivity indicator models. The models for organ water content, maximum root length, specific leaf area, and organ fresh weight distribution index demonstrated high simulation accuracy, while others showed relatively high accuracy. (2) Simulation accuracy varied with indicators and varieties. 19 indicators (34.55%) exhibited high simulation accuracy and 30 indicators (54.55%) showed relatively high accuracy. The JY35 variety (10.44 ± 8.49%) outperformed the JS206 variety (13.44 ± 8.50%) in terms of simulation accuracy. The JY35 variety had 39 superior productivity indicators (70.91%) while the JS206 variety had sixteen (29.09%). CPSM utilizes easily accessible temperature data as its input, allowing for precise and detailed simulation of productivity indicators for cucumber production in solar greenhouses. This research lays a theoretical foundation and provides technical support for guiding intelligent production management, efficient utilization of agricultural resources, and climate change productivity assessment in solar greenhouse cucumber production. Reductions of carbon dioxide emissions from the building sector are mandatory for climate protection. This calls for both a reduction of the construction material and energy as well as a reduction of the operational energy. Against this background, a novel facade-integrated adsorption system for solar cooling of lightweight buildings is proposed and theoretically investigated in this work. For this purpose, a detailed simulation model is developed to analyze both the processes in the single components as well as the overall system behavior. The proposed system consists of the three components adsorber, condenser and evaporator, which are connected vacuum-tight and are coupled by vapor transfer. The simulation results of a defined reference case yield cooling rates of 54   W per installed square meter of adsorber facade. The cooling power can be maintained for 12 h, confirming the applicability of the proposed system. Furthermore, a comprehensive parametric study is carried out in order to identify an optimum set of parameter values for maximum cooling rate under the assumed conditions. The results reveal that controlled constant cooling rates of 105   W per square meter of adsorber facade can be reached and a maximum peak power of 145   W per square meter of adsorber facade is possible. E-scooter vibrations are a problem recently studied. Theoretical models based on dynamic simulations and also real measurements have confirmed the high impact of e-scooter vibrations on driver comfort and health. Some authors recommend improving e-scooter damping systems, including tyres. However, it has not been suggested nor has any research been published studying how to improve e-scooter frame design for reducing driver vibrations and improving comfort. In this paper, we have modelled a real e-scooter to have a reference. Then, we have developed a multibody dynamic model for running dynamic simulations studying the influence of mass geometry parameters of the e-scooter frame (mass, centre of gravity and inertia moment). Acceleration results have been analysed based on the UNE-2631 standard for obtaining comfort values. Based on results, a qualitative e-scooter frame design guide for mitigating vibrations and increasing the comfort of e-scooter driver has been developed. Some application cases have been running on the multibody dynamic simulation model, finding improvements of comfort levels higher than 9% in comparison with the e-scooter reference model. The dynamic model has been qualitatively validated from real measurements. In addition, a basic sensor proposal and comfort colour scale is proposed for giving feedback to e-scooter drivers. To address the problem of insufficient real-world data on planetary gearboxes, which makes it difficult to diagnose faults using deep learning methods, it is possible to obtain sufficient simulation fault data through dynamic simulation models and then reduce the difference between simulation data and real data using transfer learning methods, thereby applying diagnostic knowledge from simulation data to real planetary gearboxes. However, the label space of real data may be a subset of the label space of simulation data. In this case, existing transfer learning methods are susceptible to interference from outlier label spaces in simulation data, resulting in mismatching. To address this issue, this paper introduces multiple domain classifiers and a weighted learning scheme on the basis of existing domain adversarial transfer learning methods to evaluate the transferability of simulation data and adaptively measure their contribution to label predictor and domain classifiers, filter the interference of unrelated categories of simulation data, and achieve accurate matching of real data. Finally, partial transfer experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, and the experimental results show that the diagnostic accuracy of this method is higher than existing transfer learning methods. Polyethylene materials are of great interest to be used in many applications due to their many advantageous characteristics. It is light, highly chemical resistant, easy to process, low in cost and has good mechanical properties. Polyethylene is widely used as a cable-insulating material. However, research is still needed to further improve its insulation quality and properties. In this study, an experimental and alternative approach through a dynamic modeling method was conducted. The main objective was to investigate the effect of modified organoclay concentration on the properties of polyethylene/organoclay nanocomposites by observing their characterization and optical and mechanical properties. The thermogram curve reveals that 2 wt% organoclay used has the highest crystallinity (46.7%) while the highest amount of organoclay used produced the lowest crystallinity (31.2%). The presence of cracks was also observed mostly in the nanocomposite with higher content of organoclay, usually where 2.0 wt% and above of organoclay was used. Morphological observation from simulation results supports the experimental work. Only small pores were observed to form in lower concentrations, and as the concentration was increased to 2.0 wt% and above, the pores present became larger in size. Increasing the concentration of organoclay up to 2.0 wt% reduced the interfacial tension while increasing the concentration above 2.0 wt% did not bring any changes to the interfacial tension value. Different formulations produced different behavior of nanocomposite. Lamellar settlers are widely used in solid separation due to their relative high surface area paired with a small tank volume. Settlers exposed to high load variations may change their settling properties based on the variation of the flow pattern. Applying the critical point theory and coherent structure concept, a flow topology analysis was performed with the help of computational fluid dynamic simulations. The compartments were determined by the fluid flow, and the dynamic behavior of the compartments was taken into account. Under normal diurnal load variation, the architecture of the compartments did not change, in contrast to the mass transport between the zones, whereas the sludge removal process made significant changes in the architecture. The results showed two main flow zones with significant internal recirculation in the first zone. The hydraulic surface loading was examined in each zone, and the study revealed that the actual hydraulic load could be from 1.5 to 4.5 times much higher than that in individual zones due to recirculation eddies in the reactor tanks. The design hydraulic loading rate did not consider the local flow pattern. In order to study the dynamic characteristics of the 660 MW ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler when the main fuel trip (MFT) and boiler trip (BT) are triggered, a dynamic simulation model of the 660 MW ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized bed boiler was established on the Apros simulation platform. The model dynamically simulated the MFT and BT processes at 100% BMCR, 75% THA, and 50% THA conditions, respectively. The steady-state simulation results showed a high accuracy compared with the designed parameters. The dynamic simulation results showed that after triggering the MFT and BT, owing to the huge thermal inertia, the bed temperature and steam temperature decreased lowly. For 100% BMCR and 75% THA conditions, the moisture separator always worked in dry state during the MFT and BT processes. For the 50% THA condition, the moisture separator quickly switched from dry to wet operation after the boiler triggers MFT and BT and gradually switched from wet to dry operation after MFT and BT were reset. The parallel expander ORC system is one of the solutions for providing an additional power output by improving the partial-load performance of an ORC. The parallel expander system corresponds to partial-load conditions by switching between various combinations of the expanders. During this process, the dynamic behavior occurs, which have not been characterized well in the open literature according to the best of the authors' knowledge. In this study, we developed a dynamic modeling of an ORC system using dual expanders (DE-ORC) to study the dynamic responses during its mode changes. System components were simulated using an open-source library of ThermoCycle written in Modelica language. For each component, empirical parameters were implemented based on the experimental results. Furthermore, during the mode change that involved going from dual expander mode to singular expander mode, and to prevent the formation of the droplet in the expanders, a control strategy was proposed and simulated. The strategy involved lowering of the mass flow rate and then shifting the mode. Several timings between flow rate lowering and shifting the mode were analyzed, and the optimum shifting time was found to be in between 40 to 50 s. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An induction motor is generally used in industrial applications because it is reliable, robust, and low cost. Reliability is one of the essential parameters based on which the motor is selected, and the induction motor primarily comes into force. The well-founded induction motor gives good results under various operating states. To achieve this, the values of the motor are kept in mind. Dynamic simulation plays a significant part in evaluating the model's design process to eliminate design errors in typical construction types and when testing the motor drive system. The induction motor is modeled in a synchronously revolving rotor flux-oriented frame, which is used as a reference. For sensorless vector control and induction motor control methods, accurate knowledge of a few induction motor parameters is necessary. The presentation of the drive will degrade if the original data in the motor do not match the values utilized in the controller. Various mechanisms have been developed to calculate the online and offline parameters of the induction machine for its application in high-performance drives. The foremost grail of this review paper is to present dynamic modeling and other considerable approaches used for estimating the induction motor parameter. This paper also constitutes some simulation examples related to dynamic modeling and parameter estimation techniques, which may be useful for specialists in the field of electric drive control systems. District heating and cooling (DHC) networks, and in particular, the fifth generation of DHC networks, offer great potential in increasing the overall system efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions in the heating and cooling of urban districts. Due to the growing complexity of these energy systems, the use of new planning methods, such as the use of dynamic simulation models based on Modelica, becomes more important. However, especially with large, complex thermal networks, there is a high effort for manual model construction and parameterization. For this reason, we present a framework for automated model generation of DHC networks based on simulation models in Modelica written in Python. The core function of the Python framework is to transform a graph representation of a district heating network into a dynamic simulation model. The authors briefly describe the workflow and demonstrate its applicability with three different use cases. We investigate the impact of different design decisions, e.g., comparing the difference between central and decentral pumps as well as a combination of both in one network. In addition, we present the results of evaluating the impact of different network temperature levels or pipe insulation compared to the overall energy supplied to the network, leading to the conclusion that the presented framework is capable of reducing the manual effort for performing DHC network simulations with Modelica and allows to easily perform parameter studies in an early planning phases in the future. The 660 MW ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler, which is the maximum capacity and largest scale boiler in the world has entered construction stage in China. This study established a full-scale dynamic simulation model of the 660 MW ultra-supercritical at 100% boiler maximum continuous rating (BMCR) condition. The model consists of an air-flue gas system, a water-steam system, and an ash circulation system. The "core-annulus" of the gas-solid two-phase flow structure and "six-equation" model of water-steam two-phase flow were applied to simulate the behaviors of the gas-solid phase and water-steam system, respectively. The model was calibrated and verified at 100% BMCR condition, and the steady-state simulation results presented a high accuracy compared with the designed parameters. A dynamic simulation of three typical conditions were carried out as well, including a 5% feed water decrease, 5% air decrease, and 5% coal decrease, respectively. Industries are adequately configured with the operational devices that are required to develop induction motors. Engineers should precisely comprehend the kind of equipment that is constructed, as with every other production system, and should start by having the goal in their perspective. An adaptable simulation of an induction motor with a protective scheme is presented. The adaptable simulation assists engineers in accurately designing motors that meet all protective standards for certain purposes. This work achieved simulations of induction motors in stable and unstable conditions. An extensive study was performed to determine the optimum design of an induction motor. This paper attempts to provide engineers with a thorough grasp of the adaptable modelling of an induction motor. In this work, a direct dq0-direct axis algorithm is presented to implement both static and dynamic modelling of a three-phase induction machine due to possible faults and high-performance requirements in induction machines. The proposed algorithm was tested against several conventional methods, and it was observed that under the stable condition of the machinery, the proposed algorithm could remove any developing faults. This conserves time and minimises the labour required of the operator, which makes the proposed algorithm more efficient. Furthermore, the machine is demonstrated in a steady-state performance with respect to the current, active power, efficiency, reactive power, power factor, and speed when the torque loads range from 0 to 125% of its nominal torque. The transient behaviour of the machine was shown through the current, electromagnetic torque, electromagnetic torque versus speed, and speed under no-load, half-load (50%), and full-load (100%) conditions. Finally, the results of the proposed technique were compared to the results of the measured parameters. It was observed that when the load changed from a half load (50%) to a full load (100%), then the supply voltage was suddenly halved with the load at full load (100%). This paper presents a set of steady-state and transient data for dynamic process model validation of the chemical absorption process with monoethanolamine (MEA) for post-combustion CO2 capture of exhaust gas from a natural gas-fired power plant. The data selection includes a wide range of steady-state operating conditions and transient tests. A dynamic process model developed in the open physical modeling language Modelica is validated. The model is utilized to evaluate the open-loop transient performance at different loads of the plant, showing that pilot plant main process variables respond more slowly at lower operating loads of the plant, to step changes in main process inputs and disturbances. The performance of four decentralized control structures is evaluated, for fast load change transient events. Manipulation of reboiler duty to control CO2 capture ratio at the absorber's inlet and rich solvent flow rate to control the stripper bottom solvent temperature showed the best performance. Organic Rankine Cycles (ORCs) are nowadays a valuable technology to produce electricity from low and medium temperature heat sources, e.g., in geothermal, biomass and waste heat recovery applications. Dynamic simulations can help improve the flexibility and operation of such plants, and guarantee a better economic performance. In this work, a dynamic model for a multi-pass kettle evaporator of a geothermal ORC power plant has been developed and its dynamics have been validated against measured data. The model combines the finite volume approach on the tube side and a two-volume cavity on the shell side. To validate the dynamic model, a positive and a negative step function in heat source flow rate is applied. The simulation model performed well in both cases. The liquid level appeared the most challenging quantity to simulate. A better agreement in temperature was achieved by increasing the volume flow rate of the geothermal brine by 2% over the entire simulation. Measurement errors, discrepancies in working fluid and thermal brine properties and uncertainties in heat transfer correlations can account for this. Modelling and simulation is presented for a finned cross-flow heat exchanger with the aim to heat cold air to be fed to air conditioning batteries for marine purposes. The model employed in this paper is finalized to simulate the dynamic behavior of air and water temperatures fed to the air conditioning batteries operating in cold environments, in order to predict possible troubles owing to the change in input parameters, such as unwanted flow rate variations due to system malfunctions. In the investigated model, heat balance equations are presented and discretized by Laplace transform, which has the advantage to easily account for the different structures of heaters used for the purpose of validation. The model was implemented in the Matlab-Simulink environment for its high capacity of dealing with dynamic systems. The results of the model are satisfactory, as the dynamic behavior of the air stream temperature is correctly reproduced, as compared to experimental data, providing a suitable parameter for malfunctions prediction. In this study, the understanding of an experimentally observed variability was investigated numerically using a non-linear spring-mass equivalence. Renewable energy sources are becoming a greater component of the electrical mix, while being significantly more volatile than conventional energy sources. As a result, net stability and availability pose significant challenges. Energy-intensive processes, such as chlor-alkali electrolysis, can potentially adjust their consumption to the available power, which is known as demand side management or demand response. In this study, a dynamic model of a chlor-alkali membrane cell is developed to assess the flexible potential of the membrane cell. Several improvements to previously published models were made, making the model more representative of state-of-the-art CA plants. By coupling the model with a wind power profile, the current and potential level over the course of a day was simulated. The simulation results show that the required ramp rates are within the regular operating possibilities of the plant for most of the time and that the electrolyte concentrations in the cell can be kept at the right level by varying inlet flows and concentrations. The Gompertz growth curve is used to describe the urban water population, the linear function is used to represent the per capita disposable income, and the domestic water demand is described combined with the factors of population, income, and the water-saving consciousness. The VES production function is used to describe the production function of the domestic water supply. Combined with system dynamics, the supply and demand management model of urban domestic water in Jiangsu province, China, is developed. The process of water supply investment and labor input in the urban domestic water system is studied with two depreciation methods: the straight-line depreciation method and the sum of years digits method. In the case that the water consumption population is expected to decline, four water demand scenarios composed of different per capita disposable income and the growth rate of water-saving consciousness are investigated. Investment and labor input are taken as control variables to conduct water supply and demand simulations for the four scenarios. The results show that the control schemes in all four scenarios reach a balance between water supply and demand. Moreover, the investment of the sum of years digits method is larger than that of the straight-line depreciation method in 2005–2019 but less than that of the straight-line depreciation method in 2020–2034. The sum of years digits method has the characteristics of more depreciation in the early stage and less depreciation in the later stage, which is conducive to timely compensation for the large loss of fixed assets in the early stage. A fundamental task in the dynamic simulation of parabolic trough power plants (PTPP) is to understand the behavior of the system physics and control loops in the presence of weather variations. This study provides a detailed description of the advanced controllers used in the power block (PB) of a 50 MWel parabolic trough power plant (PTPP). The PB model is achieved using APROS software based on the actual specifications of the existing power plant. To verify the behaviour of the PB model, a comparison between the simulated results and given real data is documented depending on a previous study, and the results indicate a reasonable degree of correspondence. The purpose of this study is to create reference models for the PB. Thereby, developers and engineers will have a better understanding of the state of the art of advanced control loops in these power plants. Moreover, these types of models can be used to specify the most suitable mode of operation for the power plant. Several tools and pieces of software support building energy modelling for optimization, certification and comparisons of different scenarios and usages. Nevertheless, the consistent rise in accessible computational power and the expansion of ICT are pushing the development of new software functionalities and tools able to support cross-disciplinary work on smart building optimization. This paper introduces a new platform (under development) that combines the EnergyPlus dynamic simulation tool with extra-functionalities and pre-defined usage scenarios based on automatic actions to manage massive simulations and correlation analyses. The tool's utility was tested in three experiments, with goals that we consider to be fundamental requirements: comparing simple retrofit actions to reduce net energy needs; analyzing the free-running potential of a demo building and the impacts of different low-energy technologies in terms of increasing thermal comfort (shading and ventilative cooling); and comparing measured sensor data indicators with simulated ones under real weather conditions for model verification. The results demonstrate the ability of the tool to automatically generate hundreds of EnergyPlus input building models by acting on building geometry; we focused on the most common uses for parametric dynamic simulations. Additionally, the way in which the tool combines the automatic modification of the building's design and the parallel launching of multiple simulations allows the labor to be reduced. The combined cycle power plants are the most recognized thermal power plants for their high efficiency, fast start-up capability, and relatively low environmental impact. Moreover, their flexible unit dispatch supports the share of renewable energy, which contributes to carbon mitigation. The operational flexibility of Integrated Solar Combined Cycle (ISCC) power plants is a crucial factor for reliable grid stability. To evaluate the limitations and capabilities of ISCC power plants and their control structures, dynamic simulation is a feasible method. In this study, a sophisticated dynamic process model of the ISCC power plant in Kuraymat, Egypt, has been developed using APROS software. The model describes the plant with a high level of detail including the solar field, the heat recovery steam generator, and the control structures. The model was implemented structurally identical to the reference plant and tuned using the operational design data. Actual measurements were used as the basis for the initialization and validation of the dynamic simulation environment. Dynamic analysis of four different days was performed, then the simulation results were presented and compared with actual measurements. The comparison showed that the course of the actual measurements could be predicted with high accuracy. The solar field influences and the system's overall power curves are reliably simulated. Consequently, the validated model can simulate the dynamic behavior of the ISCC power plant with a high degree of accuracy, and can be considered in future planning decisions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the drives of high-speed devices, such as a blood centrifuge, dynamic states also play an important role in terms of the time and quality of the tests performed. The article presents the application of modified equations resulting from the mathematical model of an induction motor to model dynamic phenomena during motor start-up, both with mains supply and with frequency start-up. The applied solution considers the phenomenon of current displacement in the rotor bar and the phenomenon of saturation. The comparison of the obtained results with the experiment shows that the method is sufficiently accurate. The defossilization of power generation is a prerequisite goal in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transit for a sustainable economy. Achieving this goal requires increasing the penetration of renewable energy sources (RESs) such as solar and wind power. The gradual shrinking of conventional generation units in an energy map introduces new challenges to the stability of power systems as there is a considerable reduction of stored rotational energy in the synchronous generators (SGs) and the capability to control their power output, which has been taken for granted until today. Inertia and primary reserve reduction have a substantial effect on the ability of the power system to maintain its security and self-resilience during contingency events. Such issues become more evident in the case of non-interconnected islands (NII) as they have unique features associated with their small size and low inertia. The present study examines in depth the NII system of Madeira, which is composed of thermal, hydro, solid-waste, wind and solar generation units, and additional RES integration is planned for the near future. Electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulations are performed for both the current and future states of the system, including the installation of planned variable RES capacities. To alleviate the stability issues that occurred in the high-RES scenario, the introduction of a utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS), capable of mitigating the active power imbalance due to the power system's disturbances resultant of RES penetration, is examined. In addition, a comparison between a flywheel energy storage system (FESS) and BESS is shortly investigated. The grid has been modeled and simulated utilizing the open-source, object-oriented modeling language Modelica. The dynamic simulation results proved that battery storage is a promising technology that can be a solution for transitioning to a sustainable power system, maintaining its self-resilience under severe disturbances such as rapid load changes, the tripping of generation units and short-circuits. The reduction of energy consumption in the building sector has promoted the spread of the NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Building) model. A future target is represented by positive-energy buildings (PEB), which produce more energy than they consume. The study is centred on the examination of some peculiarities of NZEB through a case study and on the analysis of opportunities for further increase in energy performance, to trace the road that each designer should take, through an extensive evaluation of the potentials variations on the project that could lead to better results. The project assessments are developed through a dynamic simulation model and the data from the monitoring of the building's performance are used to evaluate the actual energy saving conditions. The analyses demonstrate the importance of an accurate design of the envelope and technical building systems associated with a smart management of the control systems and the setting of the set points, for the optimal operation of the systems. Ambitious but feasible design choices and an accurate analysis of the possibility of increasing the energy performance of a NZEB can lead to reaching the PEB target and energy independence, enhancing the production of energy from renewable sources. Reusable launch vehicles (RLVs) are a solution for effective and economic transportation in future aerospace exploration. However, RLVs are limited to being used under simple landing conditions (small landing velocity and angle) due to their poor adaptability and the high rocket acceleration of current landing systems. In this paper, an adaptive RLV landing system with semi-active control is proposed. The proposed landing system can adjust the damping forces of primary strut dampers through semi-actively controlled currents in accordance with practical landing conditions. A landing dynamic model of the proposed landing system is built. According to the dynamic model, an light and effective RLV landing system is parametrically designed based on the response surface methodology. Dynamic simulations validate the proposed landing system under landing conditions including the highest rocket acceleration and the greatest damper compressions. The simulation results show that the proposed landing system with semi-active control has better landing performance than current landing systems that use passive liquid or liquid–honeycomb dampers. Additionally, the flexibility and friction of the structure are discussed in the simulations. Compared to rigid models, flexible models decrease rocket acceleration by 51% and 54% at the touch down moments under these two landing conditions, respectively. The friction increases rocket acceleration by less than 1%. The lack of a universal simulation method for triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) makes the device design and optimization difficult before experiment, which protracts the research and development process and hinders the landing of practical TENG applications. The existing electrostatic induction models for TENGs have limitations in simulating TENGs with complex geometries and their dynamic behaviors under practical movements due to the topology change issues. Here, a dynamic finite element method (FEM) model is proposed. The introduction of air buffer layers and the moving mesh method eliminates the topology change issues during practical movement and allows simulation of dynamic and time-varying behaviors of TENGs with complex 2D/3D geometries. Systematic investigations are carried out to optimize the air buffer thickness and mesh densities, and the optimized results show excellent consistency with the experimental data and results based on other existing methods. It also shows that a 3D disk-type rotating TENG can be simulated using the model, clearly demonstrating the capability and superiority of the dynamic FEM model. Moreover, the dynamic FEM model is used to optimize the shape of the tribo-material, which is used as a preliminary example to demonstrate the possibility of designing a TENG-based sensor. Annular seals of turbomachinery usually suffer from various degrees of eccentricities and disturbances due to the rotor–stator misalignment and radial loads, while the discussion of annular seal under both large static eccentricities and dynamic disturbances is relatively limited. In this paper, the applicability of linear assumption and reliability of nonlinear dynamic model for eccentric annular seals under large eccentricities and disturbances is discussed based on the investigation of seals with various rotor motions through computational fluid dynamics (CFD). After the validation of transient CFD methods by comparison with experimental and bulk theory results, the dynamic behaviors of annular seal are analyzed by adopting both direct transient simulations and the nonlinear Muszynska model. The results show that the nonlinear dynamic model based on rotor circular whirls around seal center can predict the fluid excitations of different types of rotor motions well under small static eccentricities, while it is limited severely with large static eccentricities, which indicates that the dynamic characteristics of annular seal under large eccentricities are related with the rotor's motion ways. Electric vehicles are a major trend in research and development in the automobile industry. A vehicle's handling ability is changed when the structure of the power system is altered, which is more obvious in medium-sized buses with higher load and a longer body whose body stiffness is relatively less stiff. In this context, flexible multi-body dynamic modeling, instead of rigid body modeling, is used to reflect the stiffness effects of the vehicle body and chassis systems. A control strategy is developed with an active variable stiffness anti-roll bar to improve vehicle handling characteristics by using the flexible body dynamic simulation with consideration of the step and single sinusoidal steering input tests. Through simulation, it was learned that the proposed control strategy could reduce the time of stabilization by 54.08% and suppress undesired handling behaviors in the step steering input test. Moreover, at high speed, the original unsteady condition became stabilized with little sacrifice in yaw velocity. In the single sinusoidal steering input test, the time of stabilization could be reduced by 8.43% and with 14.6% less yaw angle changes in the improved design. The overall handling was improved. The paper presents simulation and experimental verification of the hybrid magnetic bearing (HMB) performance characteristics. It has been demonstrated that the additional errors from the eddy current sensors have a significant impact on the control signals. An improved mathematical model combines a nonlinear magnetic equivalent circuit of the HMB with the ordinary differential equations of its transients. These equations describe the rotor motion and the electric circuit of the system, as well as the control system required for stable levitation of the rotor. Certain harmonics have been observed in the displacement signals of frequencies equal to the multiples of the cylinder rotations. The calculation model has, therefore, been improved, taking into account the interference of the harmonics. Simulation results were validated by comparing the time responses of the transients obtained from the numerical calculations with those measured on a real object; a satisfactory agreement between the results has been achieved. This paper presents an approach to managing the thermal power plant's flexible operation based on the steam generation process optimization. A strategy at the process level, as a first step in the operational optimization of the entire power plant, is proposed. The proposed approach focuses on minimizing the drum boiler startup time, since it is considered the most critical element in the steam generation process and in the thermal power plant's efficient operation. An approach that addresses the problem to find the optimal sequences of control valves that minimize the drum boiler startup time as a dynamic optimization problem is proposed. To solve the optimization problem, a dynamic optimization framework based on a micro genetic algorithm (mGA) coupled with a dynamic simulation model is implemented. The dynamic simulation model is validated against data available in the literature, and the proposed optimization algorithm is characterized by the use of variable length chromosomes and the use of small population sizes. The results show that optimized operating profiles minimize the drum boiler startup time by at least 35 percent and generate control valve operating sequences that must be carried out to achieve the desired profile, while the structural integrity constraints are fulfilled at all times. To overcome non-programmability issues that limit the market penetration of renewable energies, the use of thermal energy storage has become more and more significant in several applications where there is a need for decoupling between energy supply and demand. The aim of this paper is to present a multi-node physics-based model for the simulation of stratified thermal energy storage, which allows the required level of detail in temperature vertical distribution to be varied simply by choosing the number of nodes and their relative dimensions. Thanks to the chosen causality structure, this model can be implemented into a library of components for the dynamic simulation of smart energy systems. Hence, unlike most of the solutions proposed in the literature, thermal energy storage can be considered not only as a stand-alone component, but also as an important part of a more complex system. Moreover, the model behavior has been analyzed with reference to the experimental results from the literature. The results make it possible to conclude that the model is able to accurately predict the temperature distribution within a stratified storage tank typically used in a district heating network with limitations when dealing with small storage volumes and high flow rates. Determining the characteristics of the dynamic behavior of carbon dioxide in a rock mass is a stage in the process of assessing a potential CO2 storage reservoir. The aim of this study was to analyze the process of CO2 storage in saline aquifers of the selected regions of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin in Poland. The construction of dynamic simulation models was based on static models of real deposit structures developed on a regional scale. Different simulation variants of the CO2 storage process were adopted, varying in terms of injection efficiency and duration of individual simulation phases. The analysis examined the influence of the degree of hydrodynamic openness of the structure on the CO2 storage process, in each of the variants. The results of numerical simulations showed that among the three analyzed geological formations, the Dębowiec formation is the most prospective for potential CO2 storage and is characterized by the most favorable geological and hydrogeological parameters. In the best variant of the simulation, in which the safety of CO2 storage in the rock mass was taken into account, the total amount of CO2 injected in a single directional well was approximately 8.54 million Mg of CO2 during 25 years of injection. In this paper a new open source SIMULINK blockset, named ALMABuild, for the thermal dynamic modelling of a building is presented. SIMULINK, integrated with MATLAB, provides immediate access to an extensive range of analysis and design tools by means of which designers can easily combine, for instance, the energy dynamic simulation of the building-HVAC systems with multi-objective optimisation, avoiding heavy co-simulations involving different software platforms. ALMABuild proposes a simplified way to make the energy model of a building, in which the calculations are done per so called "thermal zone", in agreement with EN ISO 52016. The user is driven towards the building modelling by means of a series of Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs). In this way the creation of an accurate model can also be achieved by designers lacking specific expertise in numerical computation. In this paper, the benchmarking of ALMABuild by following the BESTEST procedure is described. The agreement with the most popular commercial software for dynamic building energy simulation and with the predictions obtainable by following the simplified hourly calculation method proposed by EN ISO 52016 confirms that ALMABuild is able to guarantee an intuitive and accurate modelling of the thermal building physics. Firstly, analytical and empirical tests are presented, then comparative tests with the reference BESTEST programs, EnergyPlus and the hourly calculation method proposed by EN ISO 52016 are performed.
