This research introduces the NeuRaiSya (Neural Railway System Application), an innovative railway signaling system integrating deep learning for passenger analysis. The objectives of this research are to simulate the NeuRaiSya and evaluate its effectiveness using the GreatSPN tool (graphical editor for Petri nets). GreatSPN facilitates evaluations of system behavior, ensuring safety and efficiency. Five models were designed and simulated using the Petri nets model, including the Dynamics of Train Departure model, Train Operations with Passenger Counting model, Timestamp Data Collection model, Train Speed and Location model, and Train Related-Issues model. Through simulations and modeling using Petri nets, the study demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed NeuRaiSya system. The results highlight its potential in enhancing railway operations, ensuring passenger safety, and maintaining service quality amidst the evolving railway landscape in the Philippines. The Cucumber Productivity Simulation Model (CPSM) was developed to precisely predict the dynamic process of cucumber productivity in a solar greenhouse. This research conducted a variety of sowing experiments and collected data on cucumber productivity and meteorological conditions from 2013 to 2015 and 2018 to 2020. Employing the principles of least squares, the relationship between cucumber productivity indicators and effective accumulated temperature (EAT) was fitted, determining key crop parameters and constructing the CPSM. Validation of the model was conducted using independent experimental data, evaluating its simulation accuracy. The results indicate that (1) CPSM can dynamically and meticulously simulate the formation process of different productivity indicators in cucumber. Normalized root mean square errors (NRMSE) ranged from 0.44% to 19.64%, and mean relative errors (MRE) ranged from 0.31% to 17.23% across different productivity indicator models. The models for organ water content, maximum root length, specific leaf area, and organ fresh weight distribution index demonstrated high simulation accuracy, while others showed relatively high accuracy. (2) Simulation accuracy varied with indicators and varieties. 19 indicators (34.55%) exhibited high simulation accuracy and 30 indicators (54.55%) showed relatively high accuracy. The JY35 variety (10.44 ± 8.49%) outperformed the JS206 variety (13.44 ± 8.50%) in terms of simulation accuracy. The JY35 variety had 39 superior productivity indicators (70.91%) while the JS206 variety had sixteen (29.09%). CPSM utilizes easily accessible temperature data as its input, allowing for precise and detailed simulation of productivity indicators for cucumber production in solar greenhouses. This research lays a theoretical foundation and provides technical support for guiding intelligent production management, efficient utilization of agricultural resources, and climate change productivity assessment in solar greenhouse cucumber production. Coal-resource-based cities, as one of the important types of typical resource-based cities in China, have strong characteristics of instability, sensitivity, and fragility, exhibiting a series of vulnerability features of the human-land system. Previous studies have lacked a deeper investigation into the vulnerability of such cities from the perspective of coupling feedback mechanisms among various elements or subsystems. This paper adopts Bohle et al.'s "Dual Structure Model" of vulnerability to establish an indicator system for vulnerability warning in coal-resource-based cities. Using Fushun City as a sample, a dynamic simulation model of vulnerability in coal-resource-based cities is constructed based on system dynamics for warning simulation calculations, analyzing the evolution trend of vulnerability in Fushun City from 2010 to 2022. The results show the following: (1) from 2010 to 2022, the urban vulnerability of Fushun City transitioned from a medium warning level to a relatively safe level, showing a trend of annual reduction and improvement, undergoing three development stages of significant reduction, fluctuation stabilization, and slight rebound. (2) Due to the causal relationships among various elements within the vulnerability subsystems of Fushun City, differences exist in the contribution levels of vulnerability subsystems during the period 2010–2022, under the combined effects of sensitivity and adaptability factors. The contribution rate of the natural subsystem was the highest from 2010 to 2014, while, from 2016 to 2019, urban vulnerability began to shift towards an economically and socially dominant type. Influenced by the pandemic, Fushun City's overall vulnerability has shown an upward trend since 2020 compared to the previous stage. Finally, specific policy suggestions are proposed for Fushun City to cope with vulnerability changes based on the analysis results, providing a theoretical basis for achieving sustainable development in such coal-resource-based cities. Reductions of carbon dioxide emissions from the building sector are mandatory for climate protection. This calls for both a reduction of the construction material and energy as well as a reduction of the operational energy. Against this background, a novel facade-integrated adsorption system for solar cooling of lightweight buildings is proposed and theoretically investigated in this work. For this purpose, a detailed simulation model is developed to analyze both the processes in the single components as well as the overall system behavior. The proposed system consists of the three components adsorber, condenser and evaporator, which are connected vacuum-tight and are coupled by vapor transfer. The simulation results of a defined reference case yield cooling rates of 54   W per installed square meter of adsorber facade. The cooling power can be maintained for 12 h, confirming the applicability of the proposed system. Furthermore, a comprehensive parametric study is carried out in order to identify an optimum set of parameter values for maximum cooling rate under the assumed conditions. The results reveal that controlled constant cooling rates of 105   W per square meter of adsorber facade can be reached and a maximum peak power of 145   W per square meter of adsorber facade is possible. To explore the impact of wheel-rail excitation on the dynamic performance of axle box bearings, a dynamic model of the high-speed train including axle box bearings is developed. Subsequently, the dynamic response characteristics of the axle box bearing are examined. The investigation focuses on the acceleration characteristics of bearing vibration under excitation of track irregularities and wheel flats. In addition, experiments on both normal and faulty bearings are conducted separately, and the correctness of the model and some conclusions are verified. According to the research, track irregularity is unfavorable for bearing fault detection based on resonance demodulation. Under the same speed conditions, the acceleration peak of bearing is inversely proportional to the length of the wheel flat and directly proportional to its depth. Several kinesin-5 motors (kinesin-5s) exhibit bidirectional motility. The mechanism of such motility remains unknown. Bidirectional kinesin-5s share a long N-terminal nonmotor domain (NTnmd), absent in exclusively plus-end-directed kinesins. Here, we combined in vivo, in vitro, and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) studies to examine the impact of NTnmd mutations on the motor functions of the bidirectional kinesin-5, Cin8. We found that NTnmd deletion mutants exhibited cell viability and spindle localization defects. Using cryo-EM, we examined the structure of a microtubule (MT)-bound motor domain of Cin8, containing part of its NTnmd. Modeling and molecular dynamic simulations based on the cryo-EM map suggested that the NTnmd of Cin8 interacts with the C-terminal tail of ß-tubulin. In vitro experiments on subtilisin-treated MTs confirmed this notion. Last, we showed that NTnmd mutants are defective in plus-end-directed motility in single-molecule and antiparallel MT sliding assays. E-scooter vibrations are a problem recently studied. Theoretical models based on dynamic simulations and also real measurements have confirmed the high impact of e-scooter vibrations on driver comfort and health. Some authors recommend improving e-scooter damping systems, including tyres. However, it has not been suggested nor has any research been published studying how to improve e-scooter frame design for reducing driver vibrations and improving comfort. In this paper, we have modelled a real e-scooter to have a reference. Then, we have developed a multibody dynamic model for running dynamic simulations studying the influence of mass geometry parameters of the e-scooter frame (mass, centre of gravity and inertia moment). Acceleration results have been analysed based on the UNE-2631 standard for obtaining comfort values. Based on results, a qualitative e-scooter frame design guide for mitigating vibrations and increasing the comfort of e-scooter driver has been developed. Some application cases have been running on the multibody dynamic simulation model, finding improvements of comfort levels higher than 9% in comparison with the e-scooter reference model. The dynamic model has been qualitatively validated from real measurements. In addition, a basic sensor proposal and comfort colour scale is proposed for giving feedback to e-scooter drivers. Percutaneous needle insertion constitutes a widely adopted technique for performing minimally invasive operations. Robot-assisted needle placement and virtual surgical training platforms have the potential to significantly improve the accuracy of these operations. For this, the development of mathematical models that provide a complete characterization of the underlying dynamics of medical needles is considered of paramount importance. In this paper, we develop two three-dimensional nonlinear rigid/flexible dynamic models of brachytherapy and local anaesthetic transperineal biopsy (LATP) needles. The proposed models relax the assumptions of previous investigations, quantify the vibrational behaviour and the rigid-body dynamics of medical needles and allow for real-time haptic and visual feedback information. Their accuracy and computational efficiency are assessed and validated using commercial software. The results show that, among the examined methods, the Rigid Finite Element Method provides the most accurate and numerically efficient solution for capturing the dynamics of flexible medical needles. The South African mining sector depends on intensive energy usage to extract minerals. Most of this energy is used to enhance underground working conditions through cooling. Electricity costs have been on the rise, reducing the profitability of mines. Mines must invest in management systems that optimise energy usage while maintaining underground conditions. Dynamic simulation models are critical for systems analysis, optimal management, and improved decision-making. This paper presents an integrated dynamic simulation model for deeplevel mine cooling systems. The model was developed using Process ToolBox simulation software, and a Mean Average Percentage Error of 3.53% was achieved. The impact of load curtailment on underground services was simulated. Eight working areas exceeded the legal limit of 32.5 °C, and the steady state simulation underestimated the impact, as only three working areas were affected. The simulation was sensitive to the ambient conditions; high temperatures were noted in the working areas when the ambient temperatures peaked. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Compared with the traditional docking mechanism, a low-impact docking mechanism (LIDM) has a big advantage, that is, LIDMs can realize low-impact docking by controlling the movement of the driving rods in real-time. In this process, the load sensing ring (LSR) of the chaser spacecraft is adjusted in real-time according to the position and attitude of the target spacecraft, which requires that the LIDM has high transmission efficiency, so that the position and attitude of the LSR can be changed rapidly under the motion of the driving rods and respond to the position and attitude requirements of the docking control system to the LSR as soon as possible. In this paper, a transmission efficiency solution and an optimization method suitable for LIDMs are proposed. The LIDM dynamic model and transmission efficiency model are established, and an improved genetic algorithm with better convergence effect is proposed and used to optimize the transfer efficiency. The results of numerical examples in this paper show that the improved genetic algorithm has stronger global optimization ability when calculating high-complexity optimization problems. In the optimized LIDM configuration parameters, the size of LSR and the bottom reference circle are close to the lower limit and upper limit of the given size limit, respectively, and the instantaneous transmission force ratio is increased from 0.6477 to 0.9160. The reliability of the optimized results is verified in dynamic simulation software. The digital twin workshop is a new workshop operation paradigm that enables precise decision-making by fusing virtual and physical space. As a complex manufacturing system, the digital twin model of the workshop must integrate models from different domains in order to provide personalized services. The interoperability of multi-domain models and the dynamic update of parameters become obstacles. In this paper, a knowledge graph (KG)-based multi-domain model integration method for digital twin workshops is proposed. The multi-domain model integration architecture based on KG is consisted of model element, model ontology, model data, semantic integration, and network connection. Then, the KG of multi-domain model for design, manufacturing, and simulation is constructed through ontology modeling and knowledge extraction. On this basis, multi-domain model integration is realized through semantic inference and knowledge query. The model parameters are updated through file exchange during the dynamic simulation. Finally, multiple scenarios in the subassembly workshop for hull construction are used to verify the efficacy of the proposed method. During the assembly and welding of hull parts, the integration of the product model, equipment model, and simulation model is realized, which assists in meeting the service requirements of multiple business scenarios. To address the problem of insufficient real-world data on planetary gearboxes, which makes it difficult to diagnose faults using deep learning methods, it is possible to obtain sufficient simulation fault data through dynamic simulation models and then reduce the difference between simulation data and real data using transfer learning methods, thereby applying diagnostic knowledge from simulation data to real planetary gearboxes. However, the label space of real data may be a subset of the label space of simulation data. In this case, existing transfer learning methods are susceptible to interference from outlier label spaces in simulation data, resulting in mismatching. To address this issue, this paper introduces multiple domain classifiers and a weighted learning scheme on the basis of existing domain adversarial transfer learning methods to evaluate the transferability of simulation data and adaptively measure their contribution to label predictor and domain classifiers, filter the interference of unrelated categories of simulation data, and achieve accurate matching of real data. Finally, partial transfer experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, and the experimental results show that the diagnostic accuracy of this method is higher than existing transfer learning methods. Knowing the directions of rupture propagation of palaeo-earthquakes is a challenging, yet important task for our understanding of earthquake physics and seismic hazard, as the rupture direction significantly influences the distribution of strong ground motion. Recent studies proposed a relationship between the direction of rupture propagation and curvature of slickenlines formed during seismic slip. The relationship was established using a global catalogue of historic surface-rupturing earthquakes and dynamic models of idealized, planar faults. At the same time, some slickenlines previously documented on geometrically complex fault segments show their convexity opposite from the simple model prediction, which we refer to as 'abnormal convexity'. To explain such observations, we perform simulations of spontaneous earthquake ruptures on non-planar and rough faults. We find that in the case of strike-slip faults, a non-planar fault model can lead to abnormal convexity of slickenlines in places where the fault dip angle changes abruptly from the average dip of the fault. Abnormal convexity of slickenlines is produced when the initial along-dip stresses are larger than, and are opposite in direction to, the dynamic stresses imparted by the mixed-mode rupture. Such results are also confirmed in our rupture simulations with a rough fault. Our results also show that the parameter space for which abnormal convexity of slickenlines occurs near Earth's surface is narrow, especially when the fault strength and initial shear stresses increase with depth. Nevertheless, slickenlines on geometrically complex faults need to be carefully interpreted and investigation of rupture direction using curved slickenlines should focus on structurally simple parts of faults. Polyethylene materials are of great interest to be used in many applications due to their many advantageous characteristics. It is light, highly chemical resistant, easy to process, low in cost and has good mechanical properties. Polyethylene is widely used as a cable-insulating material. However, research is still needed to further improve its insulation quality and properties. In this study, an experimental and alternative approach through a dynamic modeling method was conducted. The main objective was to investigate the effect of modified organoclay concentration on the properties of polyethylene/organoclay nanocomposites by observing their characterization and optical and mechanical properties. The thermogram curve reveals that 2 wt% organoclay used has the highest crystallinity (46.7%) while the highest amount of organoclay used produced the lowest crystallinity (31.2%). The presence of cracks was also observed mostly in the nanocomposite with higher content of organoclay, usually where 2.0 wt% and above of organoclay was used. Morphological observation from simulation results supports the experimental work. Only small pores were observed to form in lower concentrations, and as the concentration was increased to 2.0 wt% and above, the pores present became larger in size. Increasing the concentration of organoclay up to 2.0 wt% reduced the interfacial tension while increasing the concentration above 2.0 wt% did not bring any changes to the interfacial tension value. Different formulations produced different behavior of nanocomposite. Hence the control of the formulation was important to control the final result of the products for appropriate application in different sectors of industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A comprehensive three-dimensional dynamic model of a multi-cable double-drum winding hoister with flexible guides is presented, as the existing models cannot deal with the three-dimensional eccentricity of the cage and out-of-plane excitation generated by rotational drums. The entire system consists of three subsystems: cable subsystem, cage subsystem, and guide subsystem, respectively. Displacement and force boundary conditions are employed to couple those subsystems, and the interaction between cage and guides is considered as bidirectional coupling. The dynamic models of the three subsystems are established by Hamilton principle and Newton-Euler equation in a three-dimensional space independently. The dynamic model is discretized and solved by the Galerkin method and Runge-Kutta method. The three-dimensional displacement excitations and three-dimensional eccentricity can be handled in this dynamic model. The differences between two-dimensional dynamic model and three-dimensional dynamic model are discussed and the mechanism of entire system vibration are also analyzed by numerical simulation with typical unbalance factors, the cage eccentricity. The results show that the proposed three-dimensional dynamic model is more accurate in some realistic cases, existing out-of-plane excitation or three-dimensional eccentricity of the cage. Lamellar settlers are widely used in solid separation due to their relative high surface area paired with a small tank volume. Settlers exposed to high load variations may change their settling properties based on the variation of the flow pattern. Applying the critical point theory and coherent structure concept, a flow topology analysis was performed with the help of computational fluid dynamic simulations. The compartments were determined by the fluid flow, and the dynamic behavior of the compartments was taken into account. Under normal diurnal load variation, the architecture of the compartments did not change, in contrast to the mass transport between the zones, whereas the sludge removal process made significant changes in the architecture. The results showed two main flow zones with significant internal recirculation in the first zone. The hydraulic surface loading was examined in each zone, and the study revealed that the actual hydraulic load could be from 1.5 to 4.5 times much higher than that in individual zones due to recirculation eddies in the reactor tanks. The design hydraulic loading rate did not consider the local flow pattern. The discrete phase model approximation provided acceptable results, and the extent of the recirculation zone changed stepwise with different loads. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Epoxy resins are formed when epoxy monomers react with crosslinkers that have active hydrogen sites on them such as amine and anhydrides. These cross-linked structures are highly unpredictable and depend on different parameters during curing. Epoxy material when reinforced with nanoparticles has got importance because of its extraordinary enhanced mechanical and thermal properties for structural application. Experimentally it is challenging to tailor these nanostructures and manufacture epoxy-based nanocomposites with desired properties. An experimental approach to preparing these is tedious and costly. The improvement of such materials requires huge experimentation and a better level of control of their properties can't be accomplished up till now. There is a need for numerical experimentation to guide these experimental procedures. With the headway of computational techniques, an alternative for these experiments had given an effective method to characterize these nanocomposites and study their reaction kinetics. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation is one such technique that works on density function theory and Newton's second law to characterize these materials with different permutations and combinations during their curing. This review is carried out for MD simulation studies done to date on different epoxies and epoxy-based nanocomposites for their thermal, mechanical, and thermo-mechanical characterization. Objective: Excess salt consumption is causally linked with stomach cancer, and salt intake among adults in Vietnam is about twice the recommended levels. The aim of this study was to quantify the future burden of stomach cancer that could be avoided from population-wide salt reduction in Vietnam. Design: A dynamic simulation model was developed to quantify the impacts of achieving the 2018 National Vietnam Health Program (8 g/d by 2025 and 7 g/d by 2030) and the WHO (5 g/d) salt reduction policy targets. Data on salt consumption were obtained from the Vietnam 2015 WHO STEPS survey. Health outcomes were estimated over 6-year (2019–2025), 11-year (2019–2030) and lifetime horizons. We conducted one-way and probabilistic sensitivity analyses. Setting: Vietnam. Participants: All adults aged ≥ 25 years (61 million people, 48·4 % men) alive in 2019. Results: Achieving the 2025 and 2030 national salt targets could result in 3400 and 7200 fewer incident cases of stomach cancer, respectively, and avert 1900 and 4800 stomach cancer deaths, respectively. Achieving the WHO target by 2030 could prevent 8400 incident cases and 5900 deaths from stomach cancer. Over the lifespan, this translated to 344 660 (8 g/d), 411 060 (7 g/d) and 493 633 (5 g/d) health-adjusted life years gained, respectively. Conclusions: A sizeable burden of stomach cancer could be avoided, with gains in healthy life years if national and WHO salt targets were attained. Our findings provide impetus for policy makers in Vietnam and Asia to intensify salt reduction strategies to combat stomach cancer and mitigate pressure on the health systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to study the dynamic characteristics of the 660 MW ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler when the main fuel trip (MFT) and boiler trip (BT) are triggered, a dynamic simulation model of the 660 MW ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized bed boiler was established on the Apros simulation platform. The model dynamically simulated the MFT and BT processes at 100% BMCR, 75% THA, and 50% THA conditions, respectively. The steady-state simulation results showed a high accuracy compared with the designed parameters. The dynamic simulation results showed that after triggering the MFT and BT, owing to the huge thermal inertia, the bed temperature and steam temperature decreased lowly. For 100% BMCR and 75% THA conditions, the moisture separator always worked in dry state during the MFT and BT processes. For the 50% THA condition, the moisture separator quickly switched from dry to wet operation after the boiler triggers MFT and BT and gradually switched from wet to dry operation after MFT and BT were reset. A horizontal curve's geometric design is considered an important factor in highway accidents, and simple and spiral curves are regarded as the most common types of horizontal curves. Various factors affect the safety of horizontal curves, one of the most important of which is the side friction factor in the horizontal curves. Therefore, in this study, the safety of simple and spiral horizontal curves was investigated for the E-class sedan, E-class SUV, and two-axle conventional truck based on the side friction factor. In this regard, CarSim and TruckSim vehicle dynamic simulation software were utilized using 360 scenarios, including vehicle speed, vehicle type, curve radius, and road geometry. It was revealed that the maximum side friction factor for all vehicles in the simple horizontal curve was higher than the spiral horizontal curve. Also, the process of increasing the side friction factor was carried out with a gentler slope in the spiral horizontal curve. Except for the radius of 0.7 times the maximum radius of the spiral horizontal curve (R) for the truck and the radii of 0.7 R and 0.9 R for the sedan and SUV, the maximum side friction factor in simple and spiral horizontal curves was lower than the AASHTO recommended values, which shows that the spiral horizontal curve was better and safer compared to the simple horizontal curve based on the side friction factor. The parallel expander ORC system is one of the solutions for providing an additional power output by improving the partial-load performance of an ORC. The parallel expander system corresponds to partial-load conditions by switching between various combinations of the expanders. During this process, the dynamic behavior occurs, which have not been characterized well in the open literature according to the best of the authors' knowledge. In this study, we developed a dynamic modeling of an ORC system using dual expanders (DE-ORC) to study the dynamic responses during its mode changes. System components were simulated using an open-source library of ThermoCycle written in Modelica language. For each component, empirical parameters were implemented based on the experimental results. Furthermore, during the mode change that involved going from dual expander mode to singular expander mode, and to prevent the formation of the droplet in the expanders, a control strategy was proposed and simulated. The strategy involved lowering of the mass flow rate and then shifting the mode. Several timings between flow rate lowering and shifting the mode were analyzed, and the optimum shifting time was found to be in between 40 to 50 s. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work proposes a comprehensive numerical dynamic model of a flexible-rotor bearing system based on the Hertzian and cubic polynomial nonlinear contact force methods. The model can consider the influences of the nonlinear bearing contact forces and unbalanced force caused by the rotor offset. The displacements and spectrums of the flexible-rotor bearing system from the Hertzian and cubic polynomial nonlinear contact force methods are discussed. The influences of the radial clearance, eccentricity, mass, and deformation of the rotor on the frequency–amplitude characteristics of the flexible-rotor bearing system considering a large speed range are analyzed. The results show that the dynamic and vibration characteristics of the flexible-rotor bearing system from the Hertzian and cubic polynomial nonlinear contact force methods are different. The differences of the frequency–amplitude characteristics between the flexible- and rigid-rotor bearing system are small in a lower speed stage; however, their differences are very large in a higher speed stage. This method can be applied to the nonlinear dynamic modeling and simulation of the flexible-rotor bearing system, which can predict the dynamics and prevent the system failures during the design processing of rotor system. An induction motor is generally used in industrial applications because it is reliable, robust, and low cost. Reliability is one of the essential parameters based on which the motor is selected, and the induction motor primarily comes into force. The well-founded induction motor gives good results under various operating states. To achieve this, the values of the motor are kept in mind. Dynamic simulation plays a significant part in evaluating the model's design process to eliminate design errors in typical construction types and when testing the motor drive system. The induction motor is modeled in a synchronously revolving rotor flux-oriented frame, which is used as a reference. For sensorless vector control and induction motor control methods, accurate knowledge of a few induction motor parameters is necessary. The presentation of the drive will degrade if the original data in the motor do not match the values utilized in the controller. Planetary rovers may traverse terrains with complex geometries and variable physical properties, but their mobility behaviors are complicated and difficult to simulate precisely. This article focuses on high-fidelity dynamic modeling and simulation for a type of rovers that incorporate single-input-multi-output joints to enhance terrain adaptability, which has been used on China's Tianwen-1 Mars rover. A novel multibody dynamic model and its solutions are derived first with consideration of single-input-multi-output joints. Then, a unified terramechanics model is proposed, considering variable terrain surfaces and covering rover's motion states of skidding, slipping, and steering, solved the problem of simulation instability caused by model switching between soft and hard terrains. As the contact areas of wheels with various terrains and resultant sinkage are dominant factors to ensure fidelity but difficult to determine, a new terrain modeling method for calculating contact area and wheel sinkage is developed using digital elevation map with physical properties. A simulation system is developed, integrating all the above models, and verified with physical experiments and commercial software. The relative simulation errors that have been achieved are less than 5.9% for bogie angles, 6.1% for drawbar pull, and 3.4% for slip ratios, demonstrating high fidelity simulation results. The study aims to develop a start-up strategy for the first pilot multiple dividing wall column worldwide commissioned at Ulm University. The start-up process is investigated using a dynamic simulation model that facilitates the investigation of different start-up strategies and the influence of different factors on the start-up process. Based on these dynamic simulations a viable start-up procedure for the column is found. Through improvements to the procedure a significantly shortened start-up process is achieved. Power electronics converters have been widely deployed in modern power systems in different voltage levels. The complex operation characteristics of power converters, which combine different control modes and various current saturation states, are also significantly changing the power systems' behavior in fault conditions. The objective of this paper is to develop a steady-state short-circuit calculation solver for power systems with power electronics without the need of detailed dynamic models. In particular, the steady-state operation equations related to the converter control are included in the system formulation. An extended Newton–Raphson (NR) solver is proposed to compute the short-circuit equilibrium point that considers converters' operation limits. Also, an iterative algorithm is presented in order to efficiently identify the current saturation states of power converters under a specific short-circuit fault scenario. The deployment strategy and dynamic analysis of the AM-2 AstroMesh ring truss antenna reflector are studied in this paper. The rigid multibody dynamic models of the truss structures with alterable and fixed diagonal length are established, respectively, by using the natural coordinate formulation (NCF). The driving scheme and the synchronous constraint scheme are proposed for two types of truss structure, respectively. The degree of freedom (DOF) analysis of the truss structure is carried out according to the redundant constraint processing method. The deployment strategies of the two different types of truss structures are discussed. The rigid-flexible coupling cable system under large deformation is studied, and the beam element from absolute node coordinate formulation is used to establish flexible cable body of the system. Different numerical integral algorithms are discussed for solving the rigid-flexible cable system and an integration strategy which combines Implicit Euler with Minimum Residual Method (MINRES) is proposed. The influence of the position and number of rigid components and different the lengths of the flexible elements on the system dynamics are analyzed. With constant total mass of the system, higher number of rigid components and their uniform distribution contribute to stabilization of the swing of the flexible cable body. When the total length of the cable is constant, increasing the number of beam elements enhances the nonlinear characteristics of the swing motion and damages the stability. The influence of different factors on the movement of large deformation flexible cable body is obtained through modeling and simulation of the rigid-flexible coupling cable system. This paper investigates the nonlinear dynamics and control for three-dimensional retargeting maneuver of a flexible multi-tethered satellite formation at the sun-earth L 2 libration point. In Hill's problem, a fundamental modeling strategy is adopted to develop two dynamic models, a flexible one for dynamic simulation and a rigid one for control design. Both the flexibility of tethers and the attitude motions of satellites have been incorporated into the system dynamics. Not limited to the system under consideration, this flexible model could be generally exploited to describe multi-tethered satellite formation systems with arbitrary configurations. Besides, a nonlinear model-predictive control law for the retargeting problem of concern is developed to achieve the desired attitude of the system. The attitude control of the satellites is performed during retargeting process based on optimal control using a switching on–off method. For the ease of tracking an optimal trajectory of tether libration states and control input, an adaptive gain control law is proposed to retarget the flexible system. Finally, numerical case studies have been carried out to evaluate the dynamic behaviors of the system and to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed retargeting controller. To solve the problem of accurate identification of coal-rock dynamic disaster precursors, a spatiotemporal data integrated monitoring, and early warning system was proposed. The system consists of a spatiotemporal data integration model, a time series and visual monitoring, and an early warning platform. It takes the comprehensive mining face of a deep coal mine as the monitoring object. It uses structured light 3D scanning and Brillouin optical time domain reflectometry to collect physical entity data in the monitoring area, reconstructs data and processes data redundancy through edge microprocessors, and decomposes spatiotemporal objects into elements to construct a data integration model for data integration. District heating and cooling (DHC) networks, and in particular, the fifth generation of DHC networks, offer great potential in increasing the overall system efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions in the heating and cooling of urban districts. Due to the growing complexity of these energy systems, the use of new planning methods, such as the use of dynamic simulation models based on Modelica, becomes more important. However, especially with large, complex thermal networks, there is a high effort for manual model construction and parameterization. For this reason, we present a framework for automated model generation of DHC networks based on simulation models in Modelica written in Python. The core function of the Python framework is to transform a graph representation of a district heating network into a dynamic simulation model. The authors briefly describe the workflow and demonstrate its applicability with three different use cases. We investigate the impact of different design decisions, e.g., comparing the difference between central and decentral pumps as well as a combination of both in one network. In addition, we present the results of evaluating the impact of different network temperature levels or pipe insulation compared to the overall energy supplied to the network, leading to the conclusion that the presented framework is capable of reducing the manual effort for performing DHC network simulations with Modelica and allows to easily perform parameter studies in an early planning phases in the future. The 660 MW ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler, which is the maximum capacity and largest scale boiler in the world has entered construction stage in China. This study established a full-scale dynamic simulation model of the 660 MW ultra-supercritical at 100% boiler maximum continuous rating (BMCR) condition. The model consists of an air-flue gas system, a water-steam system, and an ash circulation system. The "core-annulus" of the gas-solid two-phase flow structure and "six-equation" model of water-steam two-phase flow were applied to simulate the behaviors of the gas-solid phase and water-steam system, respectively. The model was calibrated and verified at 100% BMCR condition, and the steady-state simulation results presented a high accuracy compared with the designed parameters. A dynamic simulation of three typical conditions were carried out as well, including a 5% feed water decrease, 5% air decrease, and 5% coal decrease, respectively. Engineers should precisely comprehend the kind of equipment that is constructed, as with every other production system, and should start by having the goal in their perspective. An adaptable simulation of an induction motor with a protective scheme is presented. The adaptable simulation assists engineers in accurately designing motors that meet all protective standards for certain purposes. This work achieved simulations of induction motors in stable and unstable conditions. An extensive study was performed to determine the optimum design of an induction motor. This paper attempts to provide engineers with a thorough grasp of the adaptable modelling of an induction motor. In this work, a direct dq0-direct axis algorithm is presented to implement both static and dynamic modelling of a three-phase induction machine due to possible faults and high-performance requirements in induction machines. The proposed algorithm was tested against several conventional methods, and it was observed that under the stable condition of the machinery, the proposed algorithm could remove any developing faults. This conserves time and minimises the labour required of the operator, which makes the proposed algorithm more efficient. Furthermore, the machine is demonstrated in a steady-state performance with respect to the current, active power, efficiency, reactive power, power factor, and speed when the torque loads range from 0 to 125% of its nominal torque. The transient behaviour of the machine was shown through the current, electromagnetic torque, electromagnetic torque versus speed, and speed under no-load, half-load (50%), and full-load (100%) conditions. Finally, the results of the proposed technique were compared to the results of the measured parameters. It was observed that when the load changed from a half load (50%) to a full load (100%), then the supply voltage was suddenly halved with the load at full load (100%). Sustainable wildlife trade is critical for biodiversity conservation, livelihoods, and food security. Regulatory frameworks are needed to secure these diverse benefits of sustainable wildlife trade. However, regulations limiting trade can backfire, sparking illegal trade if demand is not met by legal trade alone. Assessing how regulations affect wildlife market participants' incentives is key to controlling illegal trade. Although much research has assessed how incentives at both the harvester and consumer ends of markets are affected by regulations, little has been done to understand the incentives of traders (i.e., intermediaries). We built a dynamic simulation model to support reduction in illegal wildlife trade within legal markets by focusing on incentives traders face to trade legal or illegal products. We used an Approximate Bayesian Computation approach to infer illegal trading dynamics and parameters that might be unknown (e.g., price of illegal products). We showcased the utility of the approach with a small‐scale fishery case study in Chile, where we disentangled within‐year dynamics of legal and illegal trading and found that the majority (∼77%) of traded fish is illegal. We utilized the model to assess the effect of policy interventions to improve the fishery's sustainability and explore the trade‐offs between ecological, economic, and social goals. Scenario simulations showed that even significant increases (over 200%) in parameters proxying for policy interventions enabled only moderate improvements in ecological and social sustainability of the fishery at substantial economic cost. These results expose how unbalanced trader incentives are toward trading illegal over legal products in this fishery. Our model provides a novel tool for promoting sustainable wildlife trade in data‐limited settings, which explicitly considers traders as critical players in wildlife markets. The asteroid surface landing cushioning is the basis of in-situ scientific exploration of asteroids. Therefore, a leg-type asteroid landing cushioning device is proposed based on the principle of electromagnetic damping. A dynamic simulation model is used to study the cushioning dynamics of the cushioning device in a microgravity environment. For the proposed landing cushioning device, the simulation investigates the influence of vertical landing speed and landing vertical tilt angle on the dynamic characteristics and landing stability. The dynamics simulation method is also adopted to investigate the influence of the landing horizontal tilt angle and the horizontal movement direction on the landing stability of the three-legged asteroid probe. The horizontal movement direction and the landing horizontal tilt angle have a coupling effect on the landing cushioning dynamics. Estimating dynamic storage as a metric can be used to make an overall assessment of catchment resilience to extreme weather events such as droughts and floods. Because of the complexity of direct empirical measurements, bucket-type hydrological models can be a suitable tool to simulate the catchment storage across a broad range of scales as they require minimal input data. However, these models consist of one or more conceptual structures based on several linear or nonlinear reservoirs and connections between these reservoirs. Therefore, choosing the most appropriate model structure to represent storage-discharge functioning in catchments is difficult. To bridge this gap, this study evaluated the performance of three different HBV model structures on 14 heterogeneous boreal catchments classified into four distinct catchment categories. The results showed that the three-bucket structure performed better in larger catchments with deeper sediment soils. In contrast, a single reservoir structure is sufficient to predict the storage-discharge behavior for a lake-influenced catchment with lower elevation above the stream network. Moreover, our results indicate that while the estimates of mean catchment storage varied between the different model structures, the ranking between the catchments largely agreed for the different structures. Hence, our results suggest that instead of a single model structure, using an ensemble averaging approach would not only better address the structural uncertainty but also facilitate further storage comparison between different catchments. Background: This study shows how dynamic simulation modeling can be applied in the context of the nationwide implementation of Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) to inform organizational decisions regarding the use of complex and disruptive health technologies and how these decisions affect their potential value.Methods: Using the case of the nationwide implementation of WGS into clinical practice in lung cancer in the Dutch healthcare system, we developed a simulation model to show that including service delivery features across the diagnostic pathway can provide essential insight into the affordability and accessibility of care at the systems level. The model was implemented as a hybrid Agent-Based Model and Discrete-Event Simulation model in AnyLogic and included 78 hospital agents, 7 molecular tumor board agents, 1 WGS facility agent, and 5313 patient agents each year in simulation time.Results: The model included patient and provider heterogeneity, including referral patterns, capacity constraints, and diagnostic workflows. Patient preference and adoption by healthcare professionals were also modeled. The model was used to analyze a scenario in which only academic hospitals have implemented WGS. To prevent delays in the diagnostic pathway, the capacity to sequence at least 1600 biopsies yearly should be present. There is a two-fold increase in mean diagnostic pathway duration between no patients referred or all patients referred for further diagnostics.Conclusions: The systems model can complement conventional health economic evaluations to investigate how the organization of the workflow can influence the actual use and impact of WGS. Insufficient capacity to provide WGS and referral patterns can substantially impact the duration of the diagnostic pathway and thus should be considered in the implementation of WGS. Intersecting orthogonal strike‐slip faults with opposite senses of slip pose the question of what allows rupture to propagate through the junction and through both faults versus confining rupture to a single fault. I conduct dynamic rupture simulations on simplified orthogonal strike‐slip fault systems, to determine which conditions produce rupture on both component faults. In models with uniform initial tractions on both faults, slip on the first fault must reduce normal stress on the second fault for it to rupture. If the first fault ends at the cross fault, a stopping phase causes the cross fault to rupture. In models where I resolve a uniform regional stress field on the faults, only a narrow range of stress orientations allow multifault ruptures. These results will be helpful for evaluating hazard near orthogonal strike‐slip faults. Plain Language Summary: There are many examples around the world where two strike‐slip earthquake faults cross each other at nearly 90° angles. This is not remarkable when only one of the faults in a pair causes an earthquake, but it becomes notable when two or more crossing faults move at the same time. This raises the question of what causes the second fault to get involved, or not. To address this question, I use computer simulations of the physics of the earthquake process to test dozens of different fault configurations and earthquake starting points. I find that the location where the earthquake starts on the first fault controls whether the second fault is made stronger versus weaker, and therefore whether both faults can move together in one earthquake. These results can help us understand earthquake hazard around crossing faults. For manually driven rubber trams to track, virtual tracks can easily cause driver fatigue. Therefore, based on visual navigation, an automatic steering and trajectory following method are proposed. First, the vehicle kinematic and dynamic model of the Delight Tram is proposed. Then, the automatic steering and trajectory following methods are introduced, which are based on model prediction control and Ackermann steering theory, respectively. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed methods has been evaluated via both multi-body dynamic simulations and road tests under various working conditions. The results show that the vehicle has excellent steering and trajectory following ability whether in a transient phase or a steady-state circumference. This paper analyzes the dynamic character of a planar multi-degree-of-freedom industrial machine using an industrial robot as a reference model. A nonlinear dynamics model of a multi-body structure including the end effector, base and the manipulator is established using the Lagrange's principle. Focusing on the low-frequency region, the influence of the robot assembly parameters on the vertical vibration response of the body is discussed. The study demonstrates that the rolling of bearings and the meshing of internal transmission components are the primary causes of vibration in a healthy RV reducer through experimental verification and dynamic simulation analysis of the system with and without NRB failures. Both the crankshaft rotation frequency and the cycloidal gear rotation frequency affect the vibration excitation source's characteristic frequency. The non-smooth dynamic model of an unmanned bicycle is established to study the contact-separate and stick-slip non-smooth phenomena between wheels and the ground. According to the Carvallo-Whipple configuration, the unmanned bicycle is reduced to four rigid bodies, namely, rear wheel, rear frame, front fork, and front wheel, which are connected by perfect revolute joints. The interaction between each wheel and the ground is simplified as the normal contact force and the friction force at the contact point, and these forces are described by the Hunt-Crossley contact force model and the LuGre friction force model, respectively. According to the characteristics of flat and curved pavements, calculation methods for contact forces and their generalized forces are presented. The dynamics of the system is modeled by the Lagrange equations of the first kind, a numerical solution algorithm of the dynamic equations is presented, and the Baumgarte stabilization method is used to restrict the drift of the constraints. The correctness of the dynamic model and the numerical algorithm is verified in comparison with the previous studies. Piezo-actuated stick-slip micro-drives (PASSMDs) are often used in microrobotic applications due to their advantages of a straightforward design and good operational characteristics. In this work, influences of fabrication tolerances on operational characteristics of PASSMDs are theoretically investigated. A dynamic model describing the whole macroscopic movement of the driver's runner and the actuators, and the microscopic behavior of the frictional contacts using the method of dimensionality reduction, was used. Three essential parameters of the drives including the angle between working surfaces of the runner, the alignment angle between two actuator blocks on each side of the runner, and the stiffness of an individual actuator, whose values are impacted by the tolerance of the fabrication and assembly process, were considered as the input of the investigation. By performing hybrid-dynamic simulations, influences of these parameters on the drives' operational characteristics, including the repeatability of the step length, the critical amplitude phenomenon, and the maximal-achievable driving frequency/velocity, were evaluated. Simulation results show that these parameters significantly influence on the characteristics of the drives. The contribution of this work is so important that several important phenomena of PASSMDs, which are experimentally detected, are physically explained for the first time. This paper describes an improved modeling and simulation analysis of a variable-length reel take-up system for hose retrieval/deployment during aerial refueling. Based on a previously developed finite segment model, full reel acceleration is applied to the first rigid link connected to the towing point. The variation in the length of the hose and its rate of change are distributed evenly across all of the hose segments through a re-discretization technique, and the dynamics of the hose's motion are regarded as a series of quasi-static processes. First, numerical simulations of the steady-state trailing hose are compared with previous results and flight data. The non-linear dynamics of a variable-length hose–drogue system during aerial refueling are then analyzed under various retrieval/deployment conditions. The results indicate that the finite segment model is prone to inducing chain-link oscillations in the hose dynamics, which are not appropriate for such a flexible body. In two application cases, the non-physical oscillations were well filtered using the proposed method, achieving a simultaneous combination of accuracy, stability, and robustness. Several advantages of the simulated hose dynamics provide a theoretical basis and platform for subsequent research into control strategies for suppressing the hose whipping phenomenon during hook-up. Traditional geographic information system models for map representation use superposition of layers to model physical reality, neglecting the integrity of the environment and limiting the ability to express interactions between features in complex phenomenon. In this paper, we extend the framework of the geographic scene by formalizing the relationship between geographic processes and events to construct a dynamic data model: the process-event-centred dynamic data model. The key element of this data model is relationships between processes, events, and states of the natural or man-made phenomenon of interest. The identified relationships can be translated into a network of hierarchical, developmental, and causal graphs and realized in the Neo4j graph database. The implementation in the graph database supports spatio-temporal reasoning in geographic scenes and achieves an organizational framework for simulating spatio-temporal dynamics and complex calculations. The example of a 2019 mega-typhoon process is used to demonstrate the introduced process-event-centred model and its implementation in the graph database. Hydraulic support is an important support equipment used in coal mining. However, it is easily damaged under impact loads. To improve its support stability, the force response of the hydraulic support was investigated by applying different impact load on the double-canopy. Dynamic simulation model based on rigid-flexible coupling was established. In the simulation, the base was treated as rigid, other parts were treated as flexible, and the cylinders were replaced using a stepless variable stiffness system. A parallel static load was applied to the canopies, stiffness characteristics of the support was tested. The force transmission law of the support joints was obtained by applying impact loads to different positions on the canopies. The results indicate that the support shows obvious variable stiffness characteristics under parallel static loads, the rear canopy bears a higher load than the front canopy. The support joints show different sensitivity to the impact load, the joint between the canopy and goaf shield is the most sensitive (up to 4.95). This study is useful to improve the anti-impact performance and structure optimization of hydraulic support systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents a method to establish the dynamic model of the Shooter-weapon system when firing based on Lagrange's theorem and the theory of multibody system dynamics, in which the influence of the human body was taken into account. In the dynamic model, the influence of the gunner is solved by using elastic-damping links in the x, y and z axes. The dynamic model is created for a portable gas-operated submachine gun and contains three solids with seven degrees of freedom. The 7.62 mm AKM submachine gun has been used for the model simulation and experimental verification. The dynamic simulation was conducted and then the results were compared with the corresponding experimental data. The model simulation results are very close to the experimental results. This study aims to survey the influence of various parameters on gun stability in the shooting. It is possible to apply these results to portable automatic guns. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

New generations of powertrains are using gearboxes with multiple speed-shift designs to improve fuel efficiency. However, transmission controls and calibration are substantially time consuming, specifically during shift processes. To study the dynamic characteristics of a gearbox with a double-planetary gear train and analyze the influence of external excitation and internal parameters on the dynamic response of a system, dynamic modeling and simulation of the transmission system are conducted. Some physical processes are complex and difficult to express via lumped mass modeling. The dynamic model of a double-planetary gearbox is obtained by adopting the bond graph method based on the working principle analysis of the transmission, as well as the kinematic characteristics of the double-planetary gear train. Subsequently, state equations are deduced from the dynamic model of the power transmission system for simplified calculations, which can effectively facilitate the shift process simulation. The basic case of different shift plans and times is originally analyzed, followed by an analysis of the influence of damping, stiffness, and moment of inertia on transmission systems. The analysis results provide references for the structural design, control strategy optimization, and failure diagnostics of this gearbox type. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
