New metal-containing polymers, poly(salicylidene azomethines) containing metal atoms (Co, Ni, Cu) in the backbone, were synthesized from aromatic carbazolediamine derivatives. It was found that the polymers with a decyl substituent in the carbazole fragment are soluble in organic solvents (chloroform, methanol, DMSO, DMF) and exhibit film-forming and semiconductor properties. IR and NMR spectroscopy was used to show that the semiconductor properties of the new polymers are associated with the presence in the polymer backbone of transannular polyconjugation zones formed by intramolecular donor-acceptor interactions of the metal and nitrogen valence shells. The kinetics of the reaction of O,O-diphenyl phosphorohydrazidothioate with phenyl isothiocyanate at 25°C in benzene in the presence of organic bases is studied. The dependences of the catalytic activity on the nature and structure of organic bases and on various parameters characterizing their basicity are analyzed. The catalytic activity exhibited in the formation of phosphorus-containing thiosemicarbazides by donor solvents added to benzene correlates well with both spectroscopic and thermodynamic parameters of basicity: Taft (p K HB), Koppel-Palm ( B), and Gutmann ( DN) parameters. A common mechanism of the base catalysis of the thiosemicarbazide formation by organic bases of different classes is suggested and discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The distribution of phenoxyacetic acid in two-phase organic solvent-water systems and its dimerization in the organic phase were studied. Organic solvents were normal aliphatic alcohols (C5–C10), benzene, and its derivatives. The distribution ( K dis) and dimerization ( K dim) constants of this acid were determined. The correlations of these quantities with physicochemical parameters of the organic solvents were revealed. The influence of the organic solvent polarity, pH of the aqueous phase, and acid concentration on the physicochemical behavior of the acid in the two-phase systems was analyzed. Absorption spectrums of C60 fullerene in 10 various organic solvents in the range of 300–620 nm was studied. In all the solvents the C60 fullerene has four absorption maxima in the range under study. When an aromatic solvent has an ionization potential of 8.1 eV or lower a new additional absorption band appears in the absorption spectrum of C60 fullerene, caused by the formation of a charge-transfer complex (CTC) of the solvent and C60 fullerene.
