The paper highlights the prevalence of predatory journals and conferences that damage science and research across all knowledge branches. They are characterized by rapid acceptance and publication, aggressive email marketing, lack of quality control, and charge hefty Article Processing Charges (APC) (for journal articles) and registration fees (for conference papers) from the authors. They thrive on the ignorance and naivety of early-stage, inexperienced, ambitious, and ingenuous researchers who have to adhere to publications' mandatory institutional requirements. Unfortunately, the senior researchers, despite knowing the downsides, publish, and present their research findings in predatory journals and conferences. The paper recommends that regulatory and funding bodies ensure that no credit or funding is given to publish and present in predatory journals and conferences. Libraries have a significant role to play - they should spread awareness among the researchers about the detrimental effect of fake publishing and conferencing; educate researchers about how to differentiate between bogus, fake journals, conferences, and the genuine ones. The paper analyzes the research contributions by the faculty members of the Department of Physics, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune, Maharashtra, India for the period 1990-2014. Bibliographic and citation data were retrieved from Scopus database. Query statements covering all variations in the name of SPPU were used to search the database. Scopus indexed 1629 publications with 22618 citations for the period. Author keywords in Scopus database indicate that faculty members are working in core areas of physics as well as interdisciplinary subjects like chemistry, instrumentation sciences, engineering, etc. The year-wise analysis shows that research productivity of faculty member increased over the period. Faculty members published their research in core physics journals among which Journal of Applied Physics (72 papers) is the most preferred journal. The faculty members of the University have collaborated with scientists from USA, UK, Germany and Japan. Based on breast cancer research data obtained from Scopus multidisciplinary database, it is seen that with 6696 (1.82% global share) articles from India on breast cancer during 1975-2014, India ranks 12th in the world in terms of research paper output. About 80% of the Indian publications appeared during the period 2004-14. Hospitals are more productive with Tata Memorial Hospital publishing the highest number of papers during the period. The paper suggests differential metrics for estimation of change dynamics of major ICT fields using the bibliometric indicators (publication and citation count). It refers to research areas such as big data, computational biology, cloud computing, cyber-physical systems, embedded systems, information security, internet of things, human-machine systems, mobile computing, machine learning, machine-to-machine, multi-agent systems, neural networks, robotics, visualization, augmented reality, SDN, 5G, e-Governance, smart city and smart grid. As supplements to the known indicators, two kinds of integrated derivative-based indicators are suggested. The calculation of indicators is made and their time curve is given. An analysis of 2899 papers published by Indian scientists during 1991-2008 and indexed by Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) indicates that the growth of publication output was slow in the initial stages, which started increasing after 2000. The highest output was in the sub-field of molecular genetics. The organisms which received the maximum priority were humans, plants, and animals. A significant proportion of papers were published in journals that originated from the advanced countries of the West and in journals with impact factor >1. About 47% papers were cited more than 5 times. Academic institutions contributed the highest number of papers but had less impact as compared to other performing sectors. The papers published by Indian Council of Agriculture Research had the lowest impact. Quantitative documentation of the research papers of Nayana Nanda Borthakur published in peer-reviewed journals during 1963-2005 reveals a total of 106 papers to his credit. Collaborative authorship pattern is found to be in the team size of 2-5. Twenty five are single authored papers, 33 two authored, 27 three authored, 17 four authored and four papers are five authored. Two and three authored papers constitute nearly 57% of the total authorship of his papers while single author papers are nearly 10% of the total authorship. Most active researchers in the research group of NN Bortahkur were Arnold NP, Al-Kanani T, Bhartendu S, Donnelly DJ, and Sarjaz-Raeini, M. Collaborative coefficient is 0.76 and productivity coefficient is 0.65 and 54 channels of communication were used to publish his research results of which International Journal of Biometeorology (15) tops the list followed by the Journal of Nuclear Agriculture and Biology (8) and Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis (7). His fifty percentile age is found to be 28 years. Publication concentration is 18.5 and publication density is 2. The paper presents a bibliometric study of library and information science research literature emanating from India based on the data abstracted in Library and Information Science Abstracts (LISA). Standard bibliometric techniques are employed to analyse the collected data and accordingly get indicators. Bradford's law of scattering is used to identify core journals of library and information science wherein Indian authors publish their research output. To understand the productivity pattern of authors, Lotka's Law has been applied. The identified core journals are mostly published from India. Indian authors' contribution in international journals is very low. A list of authors who have published 10 and more papers during 1967-2004 is drawn and presented. Citation pattern of research papers published during 2000 to 2002 in the Indian Journal of Forestry is studied. Of the total 3798 citations appended to 252 research papers, the highest of 60% citations are from journals followed by that from books and monographs (28%) and from technical reports (5%). The obsolescence factor of forestry literature is found to be 17-18 years. Forestry literature complies with the Bradford's Law of Scattering. The paper looks into the Indo-German collaboration in S&T, through the co-authored publications during the period 1996-2000. The collaboration is under two broad streams, bilateral and multilateral. The study provides an analysis of co-authored papers by main fields and sub-fields and the impact of such collaboration in different fields of S&T. The paper identifies the major institutions involved in collaborative research in the two countries. The study reveals the extent of commonality of subject interest between the two countries. The analysis showed that the bilateral papers were maximum in physics followed by chemistry, biomedical research, etc. However the impact factor of bilateral papers was highest in biomedical research followed by physics, chemistry, etc. As many as 88 per cent of all bilateral papers have been reported in journals having impact factor less than 1.38, the average impact factor of all bilateral papers. Information personnel conduct studies on citation and bibliometric analysis for knowing the extent of utility of journals, conference proceedings and other literature. In this study, productometric analysis of contributions of National Research Centre for Soybean, Indore, has been carried out for the period 1987 -- 2001 in terms of number of research articles produced by its scientists. The study is based on a chronological documentation list prepared for the purpose along with author and subject indexes. Also analyses average number of papers per year, types of documents publishing the papers along with names of the journals, subject and language distribution. Authorship pattern is also studied in this paper. It also gives method of calculating score of individual authors, calculates their scores and rank orders. The purpose of this paper is to review an information literacy programme offered for undergraduates in a Faculty of Law in Sri Lanka. Constructive Alignment Theory of Biggs (2002) and the Empowering 8® Information Literacy Model were used to design the programme. Effectiveness of the programme was measured by comparing the pre and post test marks of the students, and the feedback of the students and staff. It was determined that by following the programme, the students received declarative knowledge on a variety of tools and techniques required to become successful in an academic environment. Library and faculty members gained first hand insights into the strengths and weaknesses of the information usage of the students and understanding the reasons for the weaknesses so that they could address the issues appropriately. It also determined that, several critical success factors, other than an appropriate curriculum, are essential for an IL programme to thrive. This paper is an attempt to examine the accuracy of references in five psychology theses submitted to the University of Mysore. Nine hundred and twenty three references were verified for their accuracy. Seventy seven percent of the references had citation errors. The errors were classified as major and minor errors. The major errors included incorrect journal names, articles titles, author and citations such as wrong volumes, issues, years and page numbers. Minor errors included: punctuations, incomplete article titles, and incomplete author names. The study found that 39.54 percent of the references contained major errors. Misspelling author(s) name (21.77%), misspelling of titles (37.93%), mistakes in volume (5.76%) and issue numbers (1.15%), mistakes in year (37.66%) and page numbers (62.33%) were kinds of major errors found in the study. Lack of awareness about referencing techniques and lack of diligence in compilation of bibliography are the reasons for such errors. Agricultural research generates highly locale-specific as well as abstract or location-neutral information. Because of this diversity and the need to build prescriptive practices out of such information, agricultural research information management on the web requires semantic enablement. Keyword assignment is an important step towards achieving this. In this paper we describe a taxonomy called Agrotags which is designed for tagging agriculture research documents. Agrotags is a broad subset of Agrovoc, the International thesaurus of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and is much smaller - about 2,100 as against 40,000 terms. Agrotags is manually created by carefully examining each of the Agrovoc terms for their utility in tagging. This selected subset is further refined and validated by looking at the manually assigned keywords from the FAO AGRIS databases. Examines the applicability of Lotka's Law as a general inverse power (α ≠2) and as an inverse square power relationship (α = 2) to the distribution of the research productivity in Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India. Two datasets of the research papers (6076 and 17681) contributed by CSIR's scientists during the period of 1988-1992 and 2004-2008 were collected from SCI-CD-ROM and Web of Science respectively. A K-S Test was applied to measure the degree of agreement between the distribution of the observed set of data against the inverse general power relationship and the theoretical value of α=2. This study highlights the collaborative research and authorship trend in the area of food science and technology in India. The present study has revealed that collaborative research was preferred to solo research in the area of food science in India and the degree of collaboration was found to be 0.91. The average number of authors per paper also showed an upward trend from 4.89 in 1994 to 8.2 in 2003. Quantitative analysis of citations has immense value in library management, specially in selection of periodicals for subscription. Periodicals as primary sources of information have more importance in research libraries than other sources of information. The cost of the periodicals is increasing day by day and hence its judicious selection is essential Citation analysis is a useful tool for the modern libraries in this regard. In present study, an analysis has been made of 20,046 citations mentioned in 777 scientific and technical reports published by National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee, since its inception L e., December 1978. The paper gives an account of year-wise break-up of different categories of reports. Different bibliographic forms of literature cited in the reports such as journals, books, conference proceedings, technical reports, IAHS publications and other documents like Ph.D. Thesis, M.E./M. Tech dissertation, bulletins, standards etc. have been analysed and presented. A ranked list of 56 most important journals related with hydrology and water resources, out of 140 cited journals in the reports has bean prepared. This ranked list of journals covers 92.7% of the total journal citations. The analysis have revealed that 40% of total journal citations relate to only 3 journals namely Water Resources Research (19.01%), Journal of Hydrology (13.43%) and ASCE's Journal of Hydraulic Engineering (7.56%). The study found that team research is preferred in the field of chemistry rather than solo research. The degree of collaboration is calculated and found to be 0.76. Details of published papers of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV), Mohanpur, W.B were retrieved from the CAB Abstracts for a 15-year period from 1993-2007. A total of 2807 papers were identified and analysed on seven different parameters. The results show that there has been a topsy-turvy growth in the research publication during the period. Artemisia is a herb that yields a natural component known as 'Artemisinin' which is being used for the treatment of Malaria worldwide. This paper uses data indexed in the PubMed database for the period of fifteen years (1996-2010) to study the research on Artemisia. It has been found that publications on this subject grew to 712 percent in 2010 as compared to 1996. China is one of the countries that has contributed a number of publications in this area. A total of 2603 research articles published by the scientists of Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI) during 1991 to 2007 were collected by scanning of annual reports and Journal of the Indian Potato Association. Majority of the scientists preferred to publish research papers in joint authorship (82.67%) having 0.82 degree of collaboration. Study further shows no uniform pattern of literature growth but factors like fund availability, scientists' recruitment and their availability, and years that had special occasions like conferences, seminars etc. have impact over scientific productivity of the scientists during the period under review. This paper is based on an analytical study of 335 keywords extracted from titles and abstracts of 70 research articles, taking ten from each year starting from 2000 to 2006, in decreasing order of relevance, on the subject fermi liquid, which is a specific subject under the broad area of condensed matter physics. The research articles have been collected from the bibliographic database of INSPEC. The keywords are indexed to critically examine their physical structure that is composed of three fundamental kernels, viz. keyphrase, modulator and qualifier. The keyphrase reflects the central concept, which is usually post-coordinated by the modulator to amend the central concept in accordance with the relevant context. The qualifier comes after the modulator to describe the particular state of the central concept and/or amended concept. The keywords are further classified in 16 classes on the basis of the four parameters, viz., associativeness, chronological appearance, frequency of occurrence and category.
