Friction Stir Processing (FSP) is a welding form for joining metals which by traditional methods are too difficult to weld. The three-dimensional existence during FSP makes it more complicated for experimental studies. It is also expensive and time consuming for experimental observations. In calculating the data during experiments, there might have some inaccurac ies. Different simulations were used to solve the difficulties but also to improve accuracy and minimize costs. It should be noted that strong distortions of the mesh could occur in the numerical simulation as the existence of huge deformations in FSPed materials. The relationship between the deforming continuum of computing regions and grid of finite is determined by numerical technique selection. Other than that, the numerical approach describes the model's ability to resolve large mesh distortions and offers correct boundary and interface resolution. The best choice for numerical technique is the main considerations during process simulation. Lagrangian and Eulerian are different examples of algorithms for continuum mechanics. One of the other techniques suggested which is Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE), modifying the above methods by combining them. A comparison between the various numerical methods to FSP simulation and the implementations of each tool in the FSP phase has been addressed in this review paper. Observations showed that the Lagrangian method is commonly used in the entire structure field to model thermal behavior. Eulerian approach is rarely used to model deformation and thermal behavior but typically used for modeling the liquid's flow. This paper discusses possible ways of computational technology development for segregated/coupled solving the systems of nonlinear partial differential equations in black-box software. These systems describe physical and chemical processes in the continuum mechanics approximation (multiphysics). The following requirements for the black-box numerical methods are formulated: – robustness (the least number of problem-dependent components); – efficiency (close-to-optimal algorithmic complexity); – parallelism (faster than the best sequential algorithm). Robust Multigrid Technique is used to compute the coarse grid correction. If the initial computational grid is structured, the developed approach has single additional problem-dependent component (the number of smoothing iterations) compared to the traditional single-grid Gauss-Seidel iterative method. Crop Area Integrated Photovoltaics (CAIPV) systems yield electricity and crops on the same area of land. Most CAIPV research and commercial activity over the last decade has taken place in temperate countries of the Global North; activity in Africa has been comparatively very limited. Depending on several factors, the shade from the PV arrays may cause crop yields to decrease, increase, or remain close to control. It is expected that yields of many crops would increase on sunny arid sites in Africa. This paper seeks to quantify and compare CAIPV's two yield components (electricity and food) under different scenarios in the African context, with a close look at potential CAIPV integration into PV mini-grids. Metrics of PV energy generation and demand are contrasted with crop yield and demand, and it is shown that the PV surface area required to meet electricity needs of most Africans is dwarfed by the corresponding land area needed for crops to meet nutritional needs. As PV area corresponds to crop area in CAIPV, it becomes clear that per capita food yields of projects will only make a miniscule contribution to local nutrition if distributed equally amongst all users of a mini-grid. Corollary agricultural benefits of mini-grids such as food refrigeration and electrified crop processing are noted to be attributed solely to the PV electricity, and have no relation to the shade provided by the PV arrays. Nevertheless, it is shown that significant quantities of food and jobs may be created if CAIPV systems can increase their surface area by securing large energy offtakers, whether in the form of off-grid industrial clients, via on-grid feed-in tariff schemes, or even future possibilities of large-scale PV-to-fuel intercontinental export operations. Due to most parts self-occlude and limitation of scanner range, it is difficult to scan the entire part by one time. For modeling of part, multi measuring meshes need to be merged. In this paper, a new merge method is presented. At first, using the grid voxelization method to eliminate the most of non-overlap regions, and retrieval overlap triangles method by the topology of mesh is proposed due to its ability to improve the efficiency. Then, to remove the large deviation of overlap triangles, deleting by overlap distance is discussion. After that, this paper puts forward a new method of merger meshes by registration and combination mesh boundary point. Through experimental analysis, the suggested methods are effective. To solve many complex scientific problems, grid computing is used by many researchers for utilizing and sharing large-scale resources which is increasing expeditiously, in the distributed heterogeneous system. Computational grid, Data grid and Service grid are the three categories in which grid can be classified. Grid computing is also known as a type of parallel and distributed computing system, which allows sharing, collecting and selection of geographically distributed resources depending on their component such as performance, availability, capability, user QoS requirement, and cost during run time. Job scheduling plays very important role in grid computing system, which is one of the key research area in grid computing. This paper proposed a new scheduling algorithm called Feed forward neural network in grid computing system (FFNNGC), which is used to train the network. The training of the network is done until the network converges to a minimum error solution. To verify the proposed scheduling algorithm performance, a grid computing network is used which is based on Globus Toolkit 4. The proposed method is applied in real life problems such as vowels classification or voice recognition problems. The paper presents a work, which aims at numerical study of the wind and solar energy potential of the country. The wind/solar energy fields simulations were performed applying the 5th generation PSU/NCAR Meso- Meteorological Model MM5 for years 2000-2007 with a spatial resolution of 3 km over Bulgaria. The computer simulated data base is large and rather comprehensive. In this sense it can be considered as statistically significant ensemble. This allows statistical treatment in order various wind and solar energy potential evaluations to be retrieved from the data base. The paper is devoted to the numerical modeling of detonation initiation in the "multifocused" system - the flat channel with the profiled end-wall. Mathematical model is based on two-dimensional Euler equations supplemented by one-stage chemical kinetics model for the detonation of hydrogen-oxygen mixture under the low pressure. The specific feature of the numerical algorithm of the second approximation order is the usage of fully unstructured computational grids with the triangular cells. Grid Computing is a set of resources; the separate computational power of these resources has combination to execute a huge task. Usually, in a Computational Grid environment, the main resource is the Central Processing Unit (CPU), mostly used in research fields that demand high computational power to perform massive and complicated calculations. Cloud Computing is a promising computing pattern which offers facilities and common resources on demand over the Web. The implementation of cloud computing applications has high priority, especially in the modern world, for example in providing adequate funding for social services and purchasing programs. In this paper, we discuss the implementation of cloud computing over a Smart Grid: reliable, guaranteed and efficient with low cost, it is expected to offer Long Term Evolution (LTE). This allows larger pieces of the spectrum, or bands, to be used, with greater coverage and less latency. The third technology is the Vehicular Network, an important research area because of its unique features and potential applications. In this survey, we present an overview of the smart grid, LTE and vehicular network integrated with cloud computing. We also highlight the open issues and research directions in implementing these technologies with cloud computing in terms of energy and information management for smart grids; applying cloud computing platforms for 4G networks to achieve specific criteria; and finally architectural formation, privacy and security for vehicular cloud computing. This paper adopts three different grids to conduct numerical simulation of flow field around an angle member by CFD. The two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equation is solved. The pressure velocity coupling adopts the SIMPLE algorithm and the pressure discretization adopts the standard algorithm. Both the momentum equation and turbulence model adopt the second-order windward scheme, and the time term adopts the second-order implicit scheme. The aerodynamic coefficients of angle member and the flow field are obtained by different grids, and through comparison, it is found that the grid mode has a very small impact on the CFD results, and the differences between different grid modes can be ignored. In respect of CFD simulation of flow field around angle member in transmission tower, it is recommended to adopt the partitioned structured grids and the partitioned mixed grids in order to enhance the simulation ability of the grid under multiple working conditions. The paper covers application of the artificial viscosity technique to numerical simulation of unsteady one-dimensional multiphase compressible flows on the base of the multi-fluid approach. The system of the governing equations is written under assumption of the pressure equilibrium between the “fluids” (phases). No interfacial exchange is taken into account. A model for evaluation of the artificial viscosity coefficient that (i) assumes identity of this coefficient for all interpenetrating phases and (ii) uses the multiphase-mixture Wood equation for evaluation of a scale speed of sound has been suggested. Performance of the artificial viscosity technique has been evaluated via numerical solution of a model problem of pressure discontinuity breakdown in a three-fluid medium. It has been shown that a relatively simple numerical scheme, explicit and first-order, combined with the suggested artificial viscosity model, predicts a physically correct behavior of the moving shock and expansion waves, and a subsequent refinement of the computational grid results in a monotonic approaching to an asymptotic time-dependent solution, without non-physical oscillations. The aim of this paper is to propose a method for application of ontologically represented domain knowledge to support Grid users. The work is presented in the context provided by the Agents in Grid system, which aims at development of an agent-semantic infrastructure for efficient resource management in the Grid. Decision support within the system should provide functionality beyond the existing Grid middleware, specifically, help the user to choose optimal algorithm and/or resource to solve a problem from a given domain. The system assists the user in at least two situations. First, for users without in-depth knowledge about the domain, it should help them to select the method and the resource that (together) would best fit the problem to be solved (and match the available resources). Second, if the user explicitly indicates the method and the resource configuration, it should "verify" if her choice is consistent with the expert recommendations (encapsulated in the knowledge base). Furthermore, one of the goals is to simplify the use of the selected resource to execute the job; i.e., provide a user-friendly method of submitting jobs, without required technical knowledge about the Grid middleware. To achieve the mentioned goals, an adaptable method of expert knowledge representation for the decision support system has to be implemented. The selected approach is to utilize ontologies and semantic data processing, supported by multicriterial decision making. In this paper we consider combining ontologically demarcated information with Saaty's Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) [1] for the multicriterial assessment of offers during contract negotiations. The context for the proposal is provided by the Agents in Grid project (AiG; [2]), which aims at development of an agent-based infrastructure for efficient resource management in the Grid. In the AiG project, software agents representing users can either (1) join a team and earn money, or (2) find a team to execute a job. Moreover, agents form teams, managers of which negotiate with clients and workers terms of potential collaboration. Here, ontologically described contracts (Service Level Agreements) are the results of autonomous multiround negotiations. Therefore, taking into account relatively complex nature of the negotiated contracts, multicriterial assessment of proposals plays a crucial role. The AHP method is based on pairwise comparisons of criteria and relies on the judgement of a panel of experts. It measures how well does an offer serve the objective of a decision maker. As a part of the finite element procedure, it is necessary to solve a system of simultaneous linear algebraic equations. A simulation with a sophisticated material model and a fine mesh requires using an iterative linear solver executed on a grid of computational accelerators. Most of modern iterative methods for linear systems are based on Krylov Subspaces. As there is no universal iterative method for linear equations available, numerous varieties of iterative linear solvers exist. The task of choosing a method best suited for a particular computational system and a physical model is arguably impossible to formalize due to both an unpredictable convergence of iterative methods and a sophisticated memory hierarchy of contemporary data processing systems. Computational experiments are virtually the sole approach to choosing a particular method. The paper presents computational experiment results for a cluster of graphic processor units (GPUs) and a linear system from the finite element analysis of an elastoplastic problem with a large plastic strain rate. The Generalized Traveling Salesman Problem (GTSP) is a combinatorial optimization problem, which is to find a minimum cost cycle visiting one point (city) from each cluster exactly. We consider a geometric case of this problem, where n nodes are given inside the integer grid (in the Euclidean plane), each grid cell is a unit square. Clusters are induced by cells 'populated' by nodes of the given instance. Even in this special setting, the GTSP remains intractable enclosing the classic Euclidean TSP on the plane. Recently, it was shown that the problem has (1.5 + 8 √2 + ∈)-approximation algorithm with complexity bound depending on n and k polynomially, where k is the number of clusters. In this paper, we propose two approximation algorithms for the Euclidean GTSP on grid clusters. For any fixed k, both algorithms are PTAS. The paper presents a comparative analysis of biomechanical behavior of eight models of ulna bone having different number of surface patches from 3D reconstruction stage and different meshing structures from numerical analysis. The paper objective is to study the meshing influence on numerical analysis of a biomechanical structure to develop an optimized model. The 3D virtual parametrical model of the human ulna bone was obtained using a Computer Tomograph to acquire the bone images, 3D Mimics 10.01 image-processing software and Geomagic Studio 10 environment to convert the discrete 2D images into 3D volumes, and Solid Edge environment to convert into solid body. The four models having different number of surface patches were imported in ANASYS V12 environment to analyze and compare the biomechanical behavior of the ulna bone. Each model was meshed in two ways: default and imposing element size 1 mm. Numerical analysis evidenced significant differences for Equivalent Stress and Shear Stress. Regarding the values of maximum deformation, directional deformation, and normal stress, the greater values were resulted for element size 1 (in most cases). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper concerns the efficient numerical solution of the time-dependent, three-dimensional Heston-Hull-White PDE for the fair prices of European call options. The numerical solution method described in this paper consists of a finite difference discretization on non-uniform spatial grids followed by an Alternating Direction Implicit scheme for the time discretization and extends the method recently proved effective by In’t Hout & Foulon (2010) for the simpler, two-dimensional Heston PDE. This paper is devoted to numerical solution of inviscid compressible fluid flow in domains with moving boundaries. Non-linear system of Euler equations in ALE formulation was solved by computational software which was developed in Matlab environment. The spatial discretization of this system was accomplished by finite volume method adapted for triangular computational grids and inviscid fluxes were discretized by Van Leer flux splitting scheme with linear reconstruction and Barth's limiter. The algorithm for the deformation of computational grid and boundary conditions are described. Numerical results of the computational software were validated using the well - known case of inviscid fluid flow around vibrating aerofoil NACA 0012 which was experimentally investigated by AGARD group. This paper presents Partially-Averaged Navier-Stokes (PANS) simulation of the flow around generic vehicle at different yaw angles. The results of PANS show not only excellent agreement with the experimental data but also large savings in the computer effort compared to LES predictions. In this paper, the aperture of a cavity is covered by a metallic grid net. This metallic grid is to reduce RCS deduced by impinging radar ray on the aperture. A radar ray incident on a grid net installed on a cavity may create six types of propagation. 1-Incident rays entering inside the cavity and backscattered from it.2-Incidebnt rays on the grid net and created reflection rays as an array of scatterers. These rays may create a wave with phase difference of 180 degree with respect to the exiting rays from the cavity.3-Incident rays on the grid net create surface currents flowing on the net and make travelling waves, which regenerate the magnetic and electric fields. These fields make again propagated waves against incident ones.4-Creeping waves.5-Diffracted rays due to leading edges of net's elements.6- Mutual impedance among elements of the net could be effective on the resultant RCS. Therefore, the author compares the effects of three out of six properties to a cavity without grid net. The aim of this paper is to present a new numerical deterministic method for solving kinetic equations using local dynamical grids for the velocity variable. Indeed, classical methods are based on a global velocity grid constructed according to initial conditions. But these classical methods present a huge computational cost and realistic cases are difficult to simulate. In the present method, the dynamical grids are constructed by solving firstly a system of conservation laws and next by considering a projection of the distribution function on the new grid. The projection is performed by using interpolation procedures involving essentially non oscillatory techniques to diminish oscillations. In this paper we present a two-dimensional extension of the staggered Lax-Friedrichs scheme for the approximate solution of hyperbolic conservation laws on unstructured grids. By evolving the numerical solution on two staggered grids, the proposed scheme avoids the resolution of the Riemann problems arising at the cell interfaces. The control cells of the original grid are regular triangular cells of a finite element triangulation, while the staggered dual cells are quadrilaterals constructed on the triangular cells of the original grid. The accuracy and stability of the scheme are investigated and classical problems arising in gas dynamics are solved. The obtained results are in good agreement with corresponding ones appearing in the literature thus confirming the efficiency and potential of the proposed method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Broadcasting in MANETs has traditionally based on flooding, which simply swamps the network with large number of rebroadcast messages in order to reach all network nodes. Although probabilistic flooding has been one of the earliest suggested schemes to broadcasting, there has not been so far any attempt to analyze its performance behavior in a MANET environment. In an effort to fill this gap, this paper investigates using extensive NS-2 simulations the effects of a number of important system parameters in a typical MANET, including node speed, pause time, and node density and packet reach ability on the performance of probabilistic flooding. The results reveal that most of these parameters have a critical impact on the reach ability and the number of saved rebroadcast messages achieved by probabilistic flooding with comparison on FSR (Fisheye State Routing) Protocol and Grid FSR in MANET. In this paper, we present a computational investigation of the nonreacting flow structure inside a novel asymmetric vortex combustor that was recently proposed by the authors. Large Eddy Simulation using the Smagorinsky-Lilly subgrid turbulence closure has been used to study such flow. A computational grid of 2.22×106 cells was used to ensure that the resolved turbulence kinetic energy is fairly more than 80% of the total turbulence kinetic energy budget. The flow was found to exhibit a central recirculation zone, and two secondary recirculation zones in the asymmetry regions. The vortex structure was found to be a completely forced vortex field. The effect of turbulence on the size and structure of the statistically averaged mean flow phenomena has been analyzed as discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The new technologies are energy efficient, reduce cost and avoid potential disruptions to the existing infrastructure. A 3-stage sensitivity analysis approach, based on analysis of variances technique for calculating Sobol's global sensitivity indices and computationaly efficient Monte Carlo integration techniques is considered and applied to a large-scale air pollurion model, the Danish Eulerian Model. On the first stage it is necessary to carry out a set of computationally expensive numerical experiments and to extract the necessary sensitivity analysis data. The output is used to construct mesh-functions of ozone concentration ratios to be used in the next stages for evaluating the necessary variances. Here we use a specially adapted for the purpose version of the model, called SA-DEM. It has been successfully implemented and run on the most powerful parallel supercomputer in Bulgaria-IBM Blue Gene/P. A more advanced version, capable of using efficiently the full capacity of this powerful supercomputer, is described in this paper, followed by some performance analysis of the numerical experiments. Another source of computational power for solving such a tuff numerical problem is the computational grid. That is why another version of SA-DEM has been adapted to exploit efficiently the capacity of our Grid infrastructure. The efficient solution of flow problems depends on quality meshing the computational domain. In problems with complex geometries or having a large spectrum of time or length scale, the meshing process greatly benefits from the subdivision of the original geometry (domain decomposition) into sub-domains, that are meshed independently with suitable elements and mesh density. Procedures for solving multiblock meshes can be of two types explicit or implicit. In either case it is essential that the fluxes at the regions interfaces be conserved. In this paper an efficient fully implicit multi-region coupling discretization procedure is presented. A test problem involving 1, 2, 4 and 8 blocks with a mesh size of about 100,000 elements, is solved to show that the coupling procedure yields the same number of iteration for multiple block as for a single block. Stochastic ALgorithms for Ultra-fast Transport in sEmiconductors (SALUTE) is a grid application developed for solving various computationally intensive problems which describe ultra-fast carrier transport in semiconductors. SALUTE studies memory and quantum effects during the relaxation process due to electronphonon interaction in one-band semiconductors or quantum wires. Formally, SALUTE integrates a set of novel Monte Carlo, quasi-Monte Carlo and hybrid algorithms for solving various computationally intensive problems which describe the femtosecond relaxation process of optically excited carriers in one-band semiconductors or quantum wires. In this paper we present application-specific job submission and reservation management tool named a Job Track Server (JTS). It is developed using Message-Oriented middleware to implement robust, versatile job submission and tracing mechanism, which can be tailored to application specific failover and quality of service requirements. In the past years, many scientific and economic-related applications from various domains have taken advantage of Grid infrastructures that share storage or computational resources such as supercomputers or clusters across multiple organizations. Grid computing technology has being regarded as one of the most promising solutions for the tremendous requirement of computing resources in the field of molecular modeling up to date. Contrast to building a more and more powerful super-computer with novel hardware in a local network, grid technology enable us, in principle, to integrate various previous and present computing resources located in different location into a computing platform as a whole. As a case demonstration, we reported herein that a campus grid entitled CCNUGrid was implemented with grid middleware, consisting of four local computing networks distributed in College of Chemistry, College of Physics, Center for Network, and Center for Education Information Technology and Engineering, respectively, at Central China Normal University. Visualization functions of monitoring computer machines in each local network, monitoring job processing flow, and monitoring computational results were realized in this campus grid-based computational environment, in addition to the conventional components of grid architecture: universal portal, task management, computing node and security. The use of computer clusters for computational sciences including computational physics is vital as it provides computing power to crunch big numbers at a faster rate. In compute intensive applications that requires high resolution such as Monte Carlo simulation, the use of computer clusters in a grid form that supplies computational power to any nodes within the grid that needs computing power, has now become a necessity. This paper presents a family of high order finite volume schemes for solving Navier-Stokes equations on unstructured grids. The k-exact reconstruction is performed on every control volume as the primary reconstruction. On a cell of interest, besides the primary reconstruction, additional candidate reconstruction polynomials are provided by means of very simple and efficient 'secondary' reconstructions. The weighted average procedure of the WENO scheme is then applied to the primary and secondary reconstructions to ensure the shock capturing capability of the scheme. A quadrature-free way is proposed to perform WENO schemes for saving computation. Several test cases are presented to validate the accuracy and non-oscillation property of the proposed schemes.
