High Speed Monohull and Hydrofoil Craft: Performance, Technology, and Applications provides comprehensive coverage of the basic hydrodynamics of high-speed monohulls and hydrofoil craft useful to students and engineers alike. The first half of the book introduces different hull shapes for semi-planing and planing craft with examples from their development through the last century. Succeeding chapters then describe the hydrodynamic theory behind their performance in calm water and a seaway. They also document the extensive series of model test programs naval architects use to create prediction models for resistance and powering. Electronic versions of a number of these are included for readers'use. A final chapter on monohulls looks at hull geometric form that has been developed to provide the best possible combination of resistance in waves and motion response through a combination of a deep and sharp forefoot and a hard chine cross-section towards the stern for patrol vessels and offshore logistics craft. The book's second half introduces the various geometries and planform configurations of hydrofoils under a fast craft hull. It reviews the development of these craft for inland waterways, such as major river systems, and the rougher environment of seaways, such as the Mediterranean and Atlantic oceans. It is followed by hydrofoil theory in an ideal fluid close to a free surface. Then the theory for a real fluid includes the vorticity and effect of planform, dihedral, and surface interaction. Hydrofoil craft design and analysis are covered next. Finally, there is a chapter on special configurations, such as craft having foils just at the bow and hydrofoil craft based on catamaran hulls.

It is universally recognised and accepted that overall ship vibration as an important measure to ensure the habitability, safety and functionality of marine vessels. This book examines the causes and effects of ship vibration to provide users with specific guidance on the design, analysis, measurement procedures and criteria in order to achieve the goal of limiting the ship vibration to an acceptable level. This Book 1 considers the design and construction of the hull, superstructure, and deckhouse of a steel vessel based on all applicable requirements of established classification society (Class) rules. Specifically, for container carriers over 130 metres in length, the Class rules require the consideration of vibratory responses of hull structures, as applicable. For LNG carriers, the Class rules require special attention to the possible collapse of the tank membrane due to hull vibration. For ship-type floating production units with spread mooring, the rules relating to the building and classing of facilities for offshore installations require the flare tower/boom and hull natural frequencies to be separated to avoid resonance or near resonance. This book should be read in conjunction with Book 2, Propulsion Shaft Alignment, which considers the effect of propulsion shaft vibrations. This book provides practical guidelines on the concept design to assist ship designers to avoid excessive shipboard vibration at an early design stage. These guidelines also assist with the finite element analysis (FEA) based vibration analysis procedure to calculate the vibration response and evaluate the design at detail design stage. The analysis procedure represents the current analysis practice used by Class. These guidelines also offer guidelines on the vibration measurement procedure at sea trials and the acceptance criteria on vibration limits based on international maritime industry standards

Working and living onboard vessels imposes a series of generally low-frequency mechanical vibrations as well as single-impulse shock loads on the human body. Also, exposure to noise is characteristic aboard vessels. Low-frequency vibrations are created by vessel motions, which are produced by the various sea states in conjunction with vessel speed and point of sail. These motions can result in motion sickness, body instability, interruptions of task performance, sleep interruption and fatigue, increased health risk aggravated by shock loads due to slam and reduced human efficiency. Higher-frequency vibration influences comfort and is often associated with rotating machinery. The imposition of higher frequency vibrations (about 1 to 80 Hz) induces corresponding motions and forces within the human body creating discomfort and reduced human efficiency. With regard to noise, the above can similarly affect exposed humans, notably with sleep interruption and resulting fatigue, discomfort, and reduced efficiency. Also of concern are transient and permanent hearing loss, masking of audible signals, and interruption of speech communication. The concerns related to levels and characteristics of noise and vibration are covered in these two books which are related to habitability on ships and offshore structures. The purpose of this Book 2 is to provide clarification for Class Surveyors and plan review engineers to verify consistency of the survey and plan approval processes. Regarding the shaft alignment design and implementation efforts by the shipbuilding industry, this book is designed to further advance the technical approach towards shaft alignment analyses and procedures. The book is arranged to include topics on shaft alignment condition monitoring and a section dedicated to alignment problems and their solutions. Shaft alignment survey requirements are summarised in the introduction and are addressed further under a separate chapter on shaft alignment procedures and practices. Discussion on alignment calculation and measurement is expanded on to include the stern tube bearing clearance measurement. This book covers MASS regulation, technology, and policy. MASS development began with the realization of the 4th industrial revolution technologies such as big data, AI, IoT, and communication, which were also linked to technological development in the maritime field. However, it is still unclear how MASS will operate. This book is divided into three parts: MASS regulation, technology, and policy, and explains each part in detail. Part I “MASS regulation and safety” deals with IMO works for MASS, including IMO MASS RSE results which has been finished in 2021. In addition, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), one of the most important international conventions to be considered for MASS operation, will be dealt with and various safety considerations will be explained in detail. Through this, this book explains in detail the regulatory considerations and safety considerations for MASS. In particular, the gaps and themes identified in IMO MASS RSE and the priority discussion needs are explained, and based on this, the development of a goal-based non-mandatory MASS code currently in progress is discussed. UNCLOS is a convention like the blueprint of the IMO Conventions, and it is very important to understand and meet the requirements of UNCLOS for the operation of MASS. Therefore, this book provides a detailed explanation of the application of UNCLOS. In particular, UNCLOS Article 94 would be a very important consideration. The book focused on the basic bottleneck issues in the ship uncertainty-based design optimization. Based on the concepts of robustness and reliability design, uncertainty classification, uncertainty modeling, uncertainty analysis and propagation methods were systematically explained, revealing the influence mechanism and rules of multi-source aleatory and epistemic uncertainty on ship design. Finally, a hull form design optimization method with mixed uncertainty was established. The theory of uncertainty design optimization is not yet mature, and this book gives a detailed introduction. This book focuses on Coastal and Ocean Navigation with an emphasis on celestial navigation techniques as a ‘back up'in the event digital technologies fail.It deals with the main themes and principles of celestial navigation (including time). It covers the syllabus for deck officers working towards the Officer of the Watch (OOW) certificate of competence (COC) awarded by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), and for Royal Navy navigation officers working towards achieving the equivalent Navigational Watch Certificate (NWC). The NWC is equivalent to the certificate awarded by the MCA to OOWs in the Merchant Service under the international Standardisation of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) agreements. The detailed theory of celestial navigation is provided.

This book describes a slamming strength assessment procedure for vessels. Typically, there are three types of slamming loads on commercial vessels: bottom slamming, bow flare slamming, and stern slamming depending upon the hull geometry at the bow and stern. Upon verifying compliance with the requirements in this book, optional notations may be assigned to the vessel. A fundamental requirement of Class is that the scantlings of the hull structure are to be in accordance with the criteria as specified by Class. The results of this book are therefore not to be used to reduce the basic scantlings obtained from the application of the Class rules. That is, if the results from this book indicate the need to increase any basic scantlings, the increased scantlings are to be implemented above the Class Rule requirements.

The book is intended to be about the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC 2006), about seafarers'security measures available before MLC 2006 and after its adoption. The following security measures will be addressed in the book: mandatory financial security established by the MLC 2006, flag State responsibility, labour supplying responsibility, port State control, and a ship arrest. The responsibility of the shipowner in respect of the seafarers engaged in work on his ship will be discussed in analysis of nowadays seafarers'recruitment process and a legal structure of shipping companies. Content will include the analysis of international (UNCLOS, ILO and IMO conventions, UNCCRO's, and Vienna Convention on Consular Relations 1963) and national law (Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Norway, The Philippines, and The UK), and relevant legal documents - agreements, guidelines, and court cases. Under the MLC 2006 the shipowner has an obligation to ensure appropriate working conditions on board a ship, due payment of wages, repatriation of seafarers and to fulfil other obligations in accordance with international and national law and the seafarer's employment agreement. Even nowadays, there are still shipowners who do not take care of the people who work on their ships: the crew onboard is left without food and drinking water, has not been paid for their work and cannot go back home because the shipowner does not pay for their repatriation. Current COVID-19 pandemic turned out to be a serious challenge to the MLC 2006 operation in practice. The MLC issues and seafarers'employment and social rights continue to be on the agenda of shipping industry. It is expected that on 24 December 2024 the amendments of 2022 to the Code of the MLC 2006 will come into force. The Guidelines for port State and flag State authorities on how to deal with seafarer abandonment cases were adopted on First Meeting of the Joint ILO–IMO Tripartite Working Group to identify and address seafarers'issues and the human element, held on 13–15 December 2022. The book aims to promote uniformity in implementation of the MLC 2006 by this increasing effectiveness of the MLC 2006. Book will bring a new knowledge in the area of maritime labour law. Accordingly, the author hopes that the book will be an important contribution for promoting understanding of seafarers'rights and shipowners'responsibilities under the MLC. The application of dynamic positioning (DP) systems has been expanded significantly not only in the number of DP vessels, but also in the range of applications and the advancement of DP technologies. In order to address various needs of the industry, the majority of leading Classification Societies (Class) have developed Class specific guidance relating to development, implementation, and use of dynamic positioning Systems (DP). This book provides generalised guidance adapted from various leading Classes, to provide DP professionals with a readily available source of information and guidance relating to the operation and use of DP systems. The book provides optional notations and technical specifics that reflect current industry practice and DP technologies. The inadvertent transfer of harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens in the ballast water of ships has been determined to have caused a significant adverse impact to many of the world's coastal regions. The international maritime community, under the auspices of the IMO has developed several documents, including the “International Conventions for the Control and Management of Ship's Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004”, (Ballast Water Management Convention), which are aimed at preventing the introduction of unwanted aquatic organisms and pathogens through the discharge of ballast water and sediments. The Ballast Water Management Convention applies to vessels registered in a country which is party to the Convention and to those vessels registered in other countries when operating in the waters of a country which is party to the Convention. As a means to prevent, minimize and ultimately eliminate the risk to the environment, human health, property and resources arising from the transferof harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens through the control and management of vessel's ballast water and sediment, as well as to avoid unwanted side-effects from that control, the Convention requires vessels to conduct a ballast water exchange or be fitted with an approved ballast water management system. It is noted that several studies have shown that the effectiveness of ballast water exchange varies and is dependent on the vessel type (design), exchange method (sequential, flow-through and dilution methods), ballasting system configuration, exchange location, weather conditions and vessel's trading pattern. For these reasons (and others), it has been determined that ballast water exchange does not provide adequate protective measures to prevent damage from organisms and pathogens carried in a vessel's ballast, even though exchange was considered to be acceptable as an interim solution.This book includes updates for the clarification of Survey requirements and adds the definition of biological commissioning, testing as well as requirements for Class approved Service Providers to conduct biological commissioning testing. Moreover, this book includes updates due to the adoption of the requirements from IACS UR M74, Rev. 2 and UR F45 and is applicable for existing ships, where an application for approval for the plans of BWMS is made on or after 1 July 2022; or for new ships contracted for construction on or after 1 July 2022.

This book recognizes the fact that the vessels'intended operational profile may vary as some vessels are intended to operate with the assistance of an ice breaker and others are intended to operate independently. The guidance provided in this book is proposed to apply to all vessels that are designed, equipped and intended to operate in low-temperature environments. Special attention is given to those vessels operating for extended periods in the Arctic regions, as this presents specific and unique challenges for vessels and crew members. The application of the guidance in this book is optional. When a vessel is designed, equipped, built and surveyed in accordance with the relevant class rules, and when found satisfactory during class notation survey, a classification notation may be granted which demonstrates the vessel's compliance with the appropriate class requirements for vessels operating in low-temperature environments. Those vessels that are designed to meet the requirements of an ice class are typically required to meet specific class rules around “strengthening for navigation in ice” or other equivalent and recognized ice class rules. Accordingly, this book also provides guidance related to the requirements which address the duration of emergency electrical power. This extended emergency power duration is expressed in hours and may be appended to the base optional class notations. To provide as much context as possible, this book refers to the most relevant international regulations and standards that are considered to be applicable.
