In this book, a more detailed analysis is performed on the basis of quarter-hourly time series of the supply of wind energy and photovoltaics. The end use including electromobility is also presented with more detailed time series of the load profiles for summer and winter and thereby for weekdays and weekends in each case. The subsequent analysis clarifies whether the renewable potentials are sufficient, what the optimal generation scenarios and infrastructures of the future could look like, and what the situation is with regard to affordability and environmental compatibility.

This book provides the short history, current state, main problems and historical perspective for the development of electrical power engineering. The focus of the textbook is on the two most important issues related to meeting of the growing needs of humanity in electricity:'Hunger for energy'and “Ecological infarct”. In the book are discussed the methods of their solution: optimization of energy balance, use of renewable energy resources, new methods of electricity production, increase of the efficiency of production, accumulation, transmission, distribution and consumption electricity. The third issue – social and geopolitical threats due to the increasing need for energy – in the textbook is not considered inasmuch it details in non-stop regime discussed in the mass media. Choosing the structure and content of the textbook is based on the ten years of the author experience of giving lectures to Tomsk Polytechnic University students who study according to theprogram Electric Power Engineering. This textbook is addresed to students, masters and post-graduates. It can be interesting for everyone who is thinking about the future of our civilization, in general, and meeting of human needs in electric power, in particular.

This work tackles the problems of understanding how energy is transmitted and distributed in power-grids as well as in determining how robust this transmission and distribution is when modifications to the grid or power occur. The most important outcome is the derivation of explicit relationships between the structure of the grid, the optimal transmission and distribution of energy, and the grid's collective behavior (namely, the synchronous generation of power). These relationships are extremely relevant for the design of resilient power-grid models. To allow the reader to apply these results to other complex systems, the thesis includes a review of relevant aspects of network theory, spectral theory, and novel analytical calculations to predict the existence and stability of periodic collective behavior in complex networks of phase oscillators, which constitute a paradigmatic model for many complex systems.

Die Synthese von theoretischer Fundierung und unmittelbarem Praxisbezug zeichnet dieses aktuelle und umfassende Lehr- und Nachschlagewerk zur elektrischen Energietechnik aus.Der vorliegende erste Band beschäftigt sich mit dem elektrischen Energieversorgungsnetz. Dabei wird den modernen Methoden zur Modellierung der Dynamik der Netzelemente besondere Bedeutung eingeräumt.Um das Verständnis und den Lernerfolg zu unterstützen, bietet das Buch zahlreiche Übungsaufgaben, Modellbeispiele und Simulationen mit Matlab/Simulink.Die aktuelle vierte Auflage wurde im Kapitel 1 und 14 sowie im Anhang aktualisiert und ergänzt. Die übrigen Kapitel erfuhren nur Anpassungen zur besseren Koordination in Zusammenhang mit der Erweiterung und Aufspaltung des zweiten Bandes des Werkes in zwei Bände im Rahmen der dritten Auflage.

So steht Studenten und Ingenieuren ein aktuelles, umfassendes Lehr- und Nachschlagewerk zur Verfügung, das sich durch die Synthese von theoretischer Fundierung und unmittelbarem Praxisbezug auszeichnet. Um das Verständnis und den Lernerfolg zu unterstützen, bietet der Text zahlreiche Übungsaufgaben, Modellbeispiele und Simulationen (MATLAB/SIMULINK). Der Autor schöpft inhaltlich aus seiner langjährigen Erfahrung auf dem Gebiet der Energieversorgung sowie didaktisch aus seiner Tätigkeit als Professor an der Berner Fachhochschule, Hochschule für Technik und Informatik, Biel.
