The book presents principles of operation of radar and radionavigation systems. The group of radar systems includes: primary and secondary radiolocations, bistatic and multistatic systems. They are illustrated with relevant examples of calculation and applications. The issues of increasing the range of the radar systems are presented together with the matched filtering of the used signals. Other discussed issues are methods for eliminating interfering signals and researching methods of 3D space. Various methods of the monopulse radiolocation are presented in Chapter 12. In Chapters 13–18 terrestrial and satellite radionavigation systems are under discussion. The terrestrial systems are: Loran C, Decca Navigator and Omega. The TRANSIT is an example of a hyperbolic satellite system. The stadiometric systems GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BeiDou, IRNSS and QZSS are discussed together with differential systems augmentating of them. The ILS, MLS and TLS supporting the landing of aircrafts are discussed in Chapter 17. The prospects for replacing of them with satellite systems augmentated by appropriate reference ground-based stations (GBAS) are also analyzed. Various beacons and ranging devices used in aviation are described in the Chapter 18. This book is intended primarily for students and engineers interested in radar, radionavigation and aerospace engineering.

This book provides a comprehensive and systematic framework for the design of adaptive architectures, which take advantage of the available a priori information to enhance the detection performance. Moreover, this framework also provides guidelines to develop decision schemes capable of estimating the target position within the range bin. It describes physical-mathematical models of systems designed to reconstruct images of hidden objects, based on tomographic processing of multi-angle remote measurements of scattered radio and acoustic (ultrasonic) wave radiation.

This book presents the theory, analysis and design of microwave stepped-frequency radar sensors. Stepped-frequency radar sensors are attractive for various sensing applications that require fine resolution. The book consists of five chapters. The first chapter describes the fundamentals of radar sensors including applications followed by a review of ultra-wideband pulsed, frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW), and stepped-frequency radar sensors. The second chapter discusses a general analysis of radar sensors including wave propagation in media and scattering on targets, as well as the radar equation. The third chapter addresses the analysis of stepped-frequency radar sensors including their principles and design parameters. Chapter 4 presents the development of two stepped-frequency radar sensors at microwave and millimeter-wave frequencies based on microwave integrated circuits (MICs), microwave monolithic integrated circuits (MMICs) and printed-circuit antennas, and discussestheir signal processing. Chapter 5 provides the electrical characterization and test results of the developed microwave and millimeter-wave stepped-frequency radar sensors. Finally, a summary and conclusion is provided.

This book is concerned with remote sensing based on the technology of imaging radar. It assumes no prior knowledge of radar on the part of the reader, commencing with a treatment of the essential concepts of microwave imaging and progressing through to the development of multipolarisation and interferometric radar, modes which underpin contemporary applications of the technology. The use of radar for imaging the earth's surface and its resources is not recent. Aircraft-based microwave systems were operating in the 1960s, ahead of optical systems that image in the visible and infrared regions of the spectrum. Optical remote sensing was given a strong impetus with the launch of the first of the Landsat series of satellites in the mid 1970s. Although the Seasat satellite launched in the same era (1978) carried an imaging radar, it operated only for about 12 months and there were not nearly so many microwave systems as optical platforms in service during the 1980s. As a result, the remote sensing community globally tended to develop strongly around optical imaging until Shuttle missions in the early to mid 1980s and free-flying imaging radar satellites in the early to mid 1990s became available, along with several sophisticated aircraft platforms. Since then, and particularly with the unique capabilities and flexibility of imaging radar, there has been an enormous surge of interest in microwave imaging technology. Unlike optical imaging, understanding the theoretical underpinnings of imaging radar can be challenging, particularly when new to the field.
