The International Scientific and Technical Conference “Integrated Computer Technologies in Mechanical Engineering” – Synergetic Engineering (ICTM) was established by National Aerospace University “Kharkiv Aviation Institute”. The Conference ICTM'2023 was held in Kharkiv, Ukraine, during December, 2023. During this conference, technical exchanges between the research community were carried out in the forms of keynote speeches, panel discussions, as well as special session. In addition, participants were treated to a series of receptions, which forge collaborations among fellow researchers. ICTM'2023 received 202 papers submissions from different countries. All of these offer us plenty of valuable information and would be of great benefit to the experience exchange among scientists in modeling and simulation. The organizers of ICTM'2023 made great efforts to ensure the success of this conference. We hereby would like to thank all the members of ICTM'2023 Advisory Committee for their guidance and advice, the members of program committee and organizing committee, and the referees for their effort in reviewing and soliciting the papers, and all authors for their contribution to the formation of a common intellectual environment for solving relevant scientific problems. The 9th International Scientific Conference on Advances in Mechanical Engineering (ISCAME, November 9-10, 2023, Debrecen, Hungary) was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Faculty of Engineering, University of Debrecen) and the Working Commission of Mechanical Engineering (Specialized Committee in Engineering, Regional Committee in Debrecen, Hungarian Academy of Sciences). The main goal of ISCAME is to yearly bring together engineers, scientists, researchers, practitioners from academia and industry to present their original works and share experiences regarding all aspects of mechanical engineering sciences.

Master's Thesis from the year 2020 in the subject Engineering - Industrial Engineering and Management, grade: 1,3, University of South Wales, language: English, abstract: In this thesis, a transferable concept is developed to identify possible automation potentials in existing processes in small and medium-sized enterprises, taking into account the following research questions: How does the existing process of machine labeling work? What are the weak points of the current process of machine labeling? How can possible weaknesses be eliminated and, in the best case, automated? Can the developed concept be transferred to other processes? This in turn raises the central research question of the scientific paper: How can a structured procedure for the identification of optimization potentials as a basis for process automation look like and what has to be considered when applying it? To answer these research questions, existing concepts in the relevant literature are examined with regard to their advantages and disadvantages for the planned application. From this, a procedure divided into three main steps is developed, which offers different methodologies for the steps to be worked on. The process to be investigated and the desired primary goal of automation determine which of the methods should be used. Subsequently, the practical suitability of the developed concept is tested on the given example process of machine labeling of a medium-sized mechanical engineering company. The results of the exemplary application show that it is possible to develop a clearly structured and easy to handle concept for a medium-sized company, which recognizes the weak points and optimization potentials.

There are several textbooks and monographs on dislocations and the mechanical and physical properties of metals, but most of them discuss the topics in terms of more or less one-dimensional or scalar quantities. However, actual metallic materials are often three-dimensionally heterogeneous in their microstructure, and this heterogeneity has a significant impact on the macroscopic mechanical properties. With advances in computational technology, the complexity introduced by spatial heterogeneity in the microstructure of metals can now be explored using numerical methods. This book explains in simple terms the idea of extending the continuum mechanics theory of plastic deformation of crystals to three-dimensional analysis and applying it to the analysis of more realistic models of metal microstructures. This book links solid mechanics and materials science by providing clear physical pictures and mathematical models of plastic slip deformation and the accumulation of dislocations and atomic vacancies in metallic materials. Both monotonic and cyclic loading cases are considered.

This book is an attempt to develop a guide for the user who is interested in learning the method by doing. There is enough discussion of some of the basic theory so that the user can get a broad understanding of the process. And there are many examples with step-by-step instructions for the user to quickly develop some proficiency in using FEA. We have used Matlab and its PDE toolbox for the examples in this text. The syntax and the modeling process are easy to understand and a new user can become productive very quickly. The PDE toolbox, just like any other commercial software, can solve certain classes of problems well but is not capable of solving every type of problem. For example, it can solve linear problems but is not capable of handling non-linear problems. Being aware of the capabilities of any tool is an important lesson for the user and we have, with this book, tried to highlight that lesson as well.

This book is aimed to provide comprehensive and systematic knowledge of kinematic synthesis as developed up to date. Modern mechanical systems require advance kinematics knowledge to support mechanism design with sound theories and methods. The book includes not only the classical foundations of kinematic synthesis, but also the latest advances developed by the authors. Moreover, many examples are included to illustrate both methods and their supporting theory.The focus is on systems of rigid bodies forming closed loops. The four-bar linkage, representing the foundations of mechanical systems, is given due attention, in its three domains: planar, spherical, and spatial. The book contains six chapters, the first two covering fundamentals for kinematic synthesis, including qualitative synthesis. Chapters 3–5 describe, in full detail, the function, motion, and path syntheses of single-dof linkages. The tuned mass damper is one of the classic dynamic vibration absorbers with effective devices for energy dissipation and vibration reduction. The electromagnetically tuned mass damper system is extensively used for vibration reduction in engineering. A better understanding of the nonlinear dynamics of the electromagnetically tuned mass damper system is very important to optimize the parameters of such systems for vibration reduction. However, until now, one cannot fully understand complex periodic motions in such a nonlinear, electromagnetically tuned mass damper system. In this book, the semi-analytical solutions of periodic motions are presented through period-1, period-3, period-9, and period-12 motions. The corresponding stability and bifurcations of periodic motions are determined. The frequency-amplitude characteristics for bifurcation routes of such higher-order periodic motions are presented. This book helps people better understand the dynamical behaviors of an electromagnetically tuned mass damper system for the new development and design of vibration reduction and energy harvesting systems.

Complex variable theory is attractive for engineers as it offers elegant approaches for certain types of differential equations in engineering including heat transfer, solid mechanics, and fluid mechanics. However, a gap exists between books written by mathematicians and books written by engineers in their specific fields. Naturally, mathematicians tend to emphasize rigorousness and consistency while less emphasizing applications. On the other hand, books written by engineers often jump directly to the specific topics assuming that the readers already have sufficient background of complex variables and the pathway from theory to the application is not clearly elucidated. This book closes the gap in the literature. providing a smooth transition from basic theory to the application is accomplished. Although it is not possible to cover all the topics in engineering exhaustively, the readers can at least find the logic of how and why complex variables are effective for some of the engineering problems. Another motivation for writing this book is to demonstrate that the readers can take advantage of a computer algebra system, Mathematica, to facilitate tedious algebra and visualize complex functions so that they can focus on principles instead of spending endless hours on algebra by hand. Unlike numerical tools such as MATLAB and FORTRAN, Mathematica can expand, differentiate, and integrate complex-valued functions symbolically. Mathematica can be used as a stand-alone symbolic calculator or a programming tool using the Wolfram Language. If Mathematica is not available locally, Wolfram Cloud Basic can be used online as a free service to execute Mathematica statements.

This is the first Structural Dynamics book focused on this indispensable aspect of liquid rocket engine design. This book begins by reviewing basic concepts in Structural Dynamics, including the free and forced response of SDOF and MDOF systems, along with some discussion of how numerical solutions are generated. This book builds on the fundamental understandings, learned in undergraduate engineering and physics in principles of dynamics and control of mechanical systems. The design of real-world mechanical systems and devices becomes far more complex than the spring-pendulum system to which most engineers have been exposed. The authors provide one of the simplest models of nonlinear dynamical systems for learning complex nonlinear dynamical systems. The book addresses the complex challenges of the necessary modeling for the design of machines. The book addresses the methods to create a mechanical system with stable and unstable motions in environments influenced by an array of motion complexity including varied excitation frequencies ranging from periodic motions to chaos. Periodic motions to chaos, in a periodically forced nonlinear spring pendulum system, are presented through the discrete mapping method, and the corresponding stability and bifurcations of periodic motions on the bifurcation trees are presented. Developed semi-analytical solutions of periodical motions to chaos help the reader to understand complex nonlinear dynamical behaviors in nonlinear dynamical systems. Especially, one can use unstable motions rather than stable motions only.

For many engineering tasks extensive computations or visualizations are required. The well established Matlab and Octave (a very similar open source software) are excellent tools for modeling, computing and visualization. This book will help the reader to acquire basic knowledge and elementary programming skills with Octave/Matlab. Basic data and programming structures are presented and for the most often used commands illustrative code samples are provided. The selection of the presented commands is guided by the typical needs of engineers. With these skills many and more difficult problems can be solved successfully. It is shown how basic statistical questions can be answered and how results are visualized using appropriate types of graphical representation. A selection of typical, independent engineering problems is presented, together with algorithms to solve these problems. Special attention is given to the methods of linear and nonlinear regression. The high level tool Matlab/Octave is used to develop computational code for micro controllers. This textbook introduces the widely used numerical technique FEM in various engineering disciplines for the analysis of structures, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and other physical phenomena. Appropriate for interested senior undergraduate engineering students and beginner graduate students in a one-semester introductory course, this book provides a clear understanding of the main issues in FEM. Looking at the FEM as a variational approximation method that uses localized piecewise polynomial basis functions for the solution of boundary-value problems (BVP) and initial boundary-value problems (IBVP), the book uses examples to apply this technique to various problems of physical interest, e.g., elasticity, heat conduction, advection-diffusion, etc. One-dimensional (1D) problems are presented first to make it easier to grasp the fundamental concepts associated with the formulation and application of the FEM; then, the methodology is extended to more challenging 2D and 3D problems that involve somewhat greater mathematical complexity. For simplicity, the book deals with problems that are specified in terms of a single set of state variables, such as displacements or temperature. Finally, due to the introductory nature of this text, only linear problems are considered.

The book provides a comprehensive overview of combustion models used in different types of spark ignition engines. In the first generation of spark ignition (SI) engines, the turbulence is created by the shear flow passing through the intake valves, and significantly decays during the intake and compression strokes. The residual turbulence enhances the laminar flame velocity, which is characteristic of the fuel and increases the relative effectiveness of the engine. In this simple two-zone model, the turbulence is estimated empirically; the spherical flame propagation model considers ignition delay, thermodynamics, heat transfer and chemical equilibrium, to obtain the performance and emissions of an SI engine. The model is used extensively by designers and research engineers to handle the fuel-air mixture prepared in the inlet and different geometries of open combustion chambers. The empiricism of the combustion model was progressively dismantled over the years. New 3D models for ignition considering the flow near a spark plug and flame propagation in the bulk gases were developed by incorporating solutions to Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations for the turbulent flow with chemical reactions in the intense computational fluid dynamics. The models became far less empirical and enabled treating new generation direct-injection spark-ignition (DISI) gasoline and gas engines. The more complex layout of DISI engines with passive or active prechamber is successfully handled by them. This book presents details of models of SI engine combustion progressively increasing in complexity, making them accessible to designers, researchers, and even mechanical engineers who are curious to explore the field. This book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in spark ignition combustion.

This textbook delves into the theory and practical application of boundary integral equation techniques, focusing on their numerical solution for boundary value problems within potential theory and linear elasticity. Drawing parallels between single and double layer potentials in potential theory and their counterparts in elasticity, the book introduces various numerical procedures, namely boundary element methods, where unknown quantities reside on the boundaries of the region of interest. Through the approximation of boundary value problems into systems of algebraic equations, solvable by standard numerical methods, the text elucidates both indirect and direct approaches. This book aims to familiarize with the basics of the SEMS theory, including logical-probabilistic and logical-linguistic methods for their design and modeling, taking into account the incomplete certainty of the operating environment and the mental characteristics of the members of the human–machine systems collective. Smart electromechanical systems (SEMS) are used in cyber-physical systems (CPS). The main tasks in the field of theory and practice of CPS are to ensure the efficiency, reliability and safety of operation in real time.SEMS have been widely used since 2000 in parallel robots or so-called parallel kinematic machines. They offer good opportunities in terms of precision, rigidity and the ability to handle heavy loads. SEMS are used in unmanned vehicles, astronomy, machine tools, medicine and other fields.Currently, much attention is paid to the methods of designing and modeling SEMS based on the principles of adaptability, intelligence, biomorphism of parallel kinematics and parallelism in information processing and control calculations. The book consists of four parts:- Mechanisms and control systems;- The central nervous system;- Group control;- Examples of using SEMS modules.The book is recommended for specialists in the field of control, as well as a textbook for masters of universities specializing in the field of smart electromechanical systems and robotics and includes many scientific fields such as kinematics, dynamics and control theory.
