- Abstract
The proceedings of the 4th Stability and Control Processes Conference are focused on modern applied mathematics, stability theory, and control processes. The conference was held in recognition of the 90th birthday of Professor Vladimir Ivanovich Zubov (1930–2000).This selection of papers reflects the wide-ranging nature of V. I. Zubov's work, which included contributions to the development of the qualitative theory of differential equations, the theory of rigid body motion, optimal control theory, and the theory of electromagnetic fields. It helps to advance many aspects of the theory of control systems, including questions of motion stability, nonlinear oscillations in control systems, navigation and reliability of control devices, vibration theory, and quantization of orbits. The disparate applications covered by the book – in mechanical systems, game theory, solid-state physics, socio-economic systems and medical and biological systems, control automata and navigation – are developments from Professor Zubov's in-depth studies on the theory of stability of motion, the theory of automatic control and the theory of the motions of optimal processes. Stability and Control Processes presents research continuing the legacy of V. I. Zubov and updates it with sections focused on intelligence-based control. These proceedings will be of interest to academics, professionals working in industry and researchers alike.

- Abstract
This monograph deals with approximation and noise cancellation of dyn- ical systems which include linear and nonlinear input/output relationships. It also deal with approximation and noise cancellation of two dimensional arrays. It will be of special interest to researchers, engineers and graduate students who have specialized in?ltering theory and system theory and d- ital images. This monograph is composed of two parts. Part I and Part II will deal with approximation and noise cancellation of dynamical systems or digital images respectively. From noiseless or noisy data, reduction will be made. A method which reduces model information or noise was proposed in the reference vol. 376 in LNCIS [Hasegawa, 2008]. Using this method will allow model description to be treated as noise reduction or model reduction without having to bother, for example, with solving many partial di?er- tial equations. This monograph will propose a new and easy method which produces the same results as the method treated in the reference. As proof of its advantageous e?ect, this monograph provides a new law in the sense of numerical experiments. The new and easy method is executed using the algebraic calculations without solving partial di?erential equations. For our purpose, manyactualexamplesofmodelinformationandnoisereductionwill also be provided. Using the analysis of state space approach, the model reduction problem may have become a major theme of technology after 1966 for emphasizing e?ciency in the?elds of control, economy, numerical analysis, and others.

- Abstract
Creating high-fidelity images of our world has been a continuous challenge, even as our understanding and skills have evolved. The acquisition and mapping of the rich and complex content of visual information rank high among the most demanding technical tasks. Now electronic image sensors can record a dynamic range from bright to dark of more than seven orders of magnitude, thus exceeding the ability of a human eye by more than a hundred times and displaying five orders of magnitude in brightness, resulting in CRT and LCD displays with more than 100-fold improvement. This first comprehensive account of high-dynamic-range (HDR) vision focusses on HDR real-time, high-speed digital video recording and also systematically presents HDR video transmission and display. The power of the eye-like, logarithmic optoelectronic conversion concept is demonstrated in machine-vision, medical, automotive, surveillance and cinematic applications, and it is extended to HDR sub-retinal implants for the vision impaired. While the book conveys the overall picture of HDR vision, specific knowledge of microelectronics and image processing is not required. It provides a quantitative summary of the major issues to allow the assessment of the state of the art and a glimpse at future developments. Selected experts share their know-how and expectations in this rapidly evolving art related to the single most powerful of our senses.

- Abstract
The subjects reviewed in the Advances in Imaging and Electron Physics series cover a broad range of themes including microscopy, electromagnetic fields and image coding. This volume concentrates on microscopy and pattern recognition and also electron physics. Several of these topics are covered in this volume, which opens with a long chapter of monograph stature on quantitative electron microscopy at the atomic resolution level by scientists from a well-known and very distinguished Antwerp University Laboratory. This is unique in that the statistical aspects are explored fully. This is followed by a contribution by A.M. Grigoryan and S.S. Again on transform-based image enhancement, covering both frequency-ordered systems and tensor approaches. The volume concludes with an account of the problems of image registration and ways of solving them by Maria Petrou of the University of Surrey; feature detection, related image transforms and quality measures are examined separately. The text bridges the gap between academic researchers and R&D designers by addressing and solving daily issues, which makes this book essential reading. Emphasizes broad and in depth article collaborations between world-renowned scientists in the field of image and electron physics Presents theory and it's application in a practical sense, providing long awaited solutions and new findings Provides a comprehensive overview of international congress proceedings and associated publications, as source material

- Abstract
Wavelet and subband transforms have been of great interest in the fields of - gineering and applied mathematics. The theories of these powerful signal p- cessing tools have matured and many applications utilizing them are emerging in different disciplines. This book, comprised of eleven chapter contributions from prominent researchers in the field, focuses on communications and mul- media applications of wavelet and subband transforms. The first six chapters of this book deal with a variety of communications applications that significantly benefit from wavelet and subband theories. S- ilarly, the remaining five chapters present recent advances in multimedia - plications of wavelet and subband transforms. These chapters interconnect the requirements of applications with the underlying theory and their engineering solutions. Hence, the reader can easily trace the entire path from fundamentals to the purpose and merit of application in hand. A combined list of references for the entire volume is given at the end of the text that should be helpful to the interested reader for a further study. This book is anticipated to be of particular interest to engineers and sci- tists who want to learn about state-of-the-art subband and wavelet transform applications as well as their theoretical underpinnings. It can also serve as a supplementary book for graduate level engineering and applied mathematics courses on wavelet and subband transforms.

- Abstract
Space Image Processing covers the design and coding of PC software for processing and manipulating imagery obtained by satellites and other spacecraft. Although the contents relate to several scientific and technological fields, it serves as a programming book, providing readers with essential technical information for developing PC applications. The material focuses on images of the planet and other celestial bodies obtained by orbiting and non-orbiting spacecraft. This book is not about raster graphics in general, but about raster graphics processing as it applies to space imagery. Three parts divide the text: 1. Science - background at an introductory level - scientific principles underlying space imagery and its processing - topics related to space and remote sensing. 2. Technology - topics related to space imagery - geodesy, cartography, image data formats, image processing. 3. Programming - code examples for DOS and Windows programming on the PC - consideration of low-level and C++ code - routines with a tutorial and demonstrative purpose.

The topic of the proposed book is signal compression. The compression (or low bit rate coding) of speech, audio, image and video signals is a key technology for rapidly emerging opportunities in multimedia products and services. The book contains chapters dedicated to the subtopics of data, speech, audio and visual signal coding, together with an introductory overview chapter on signal compression. The overview article summarizes current capabilities and future trends. The signal-specific chapters that follow focus on the latest technologies and coding standards, while including self-contained introductions to the respective signal domains. The authors of the book chapters are recognized experts in the field of signal processing, compression in particular.Signal compression dealing with both audio and visual signals technology has progressed very rapidly. The proposed book fills a clear void, and should prove to be a valuable reference, both to the practicing professional and to the relatively uninitiated student.
