Bei der Erprobung prototypischer Antriebsstränge sind präzise Schadensfrüherkennungsmechanismen von höchster Bedeutung. Erwin Brosch deckt die Schwachstellen der heutigen Überwachungsmethodik insbesondere im Hinblick auf die elektrischen Antriebe auf. Im Weiteren zeigt er Optimierungen der Überwachungen und damit auch der Schadensfrüherkennung auf. Es gelingt dem Autor, Erfahrungswerte von Experten in Überwachungen zu transferieren. Trotz des geringen Detailwissens über die prototypischen elektrischen Maschinen kann er eine Methode zur Erstellung von thermischen Simulationen von sich stetig verändernden elektrischen Antriebssträngen erarbeiten. Bei allen gezeigten Methoden werden typische Abläufe und Prozesse bei der Erprobung berücksichtigt.

This volume presents the proceedings of the Joint International Conference of the 13th IFToMM International Symposium on Science of Mechanisms and Machines (SYROM) & the XXV International Conference on Robotics (ROBOTICS), held in Iasi, Romania, on November 17–18, 2022. The present volume contains edited versions of the communications presented at an International Workshop on'Expert Systems in Production Engineering', held in Spa, Belgium, in 1986. Introductory papers on Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems are complemented by case studies of Expert Systems in practice, primarily, in the area of Mechanical Engineering and discussions of the possibilities and the limitations of Expert Systems.

People have dreamed of machines, which would free them from unpleasant, dull, dirty and dangerous tasks and work for them as servants, for centuries if not millennia. Service robots seem to finally let these dreams come true. But where are all these robots that eventually serve us all day long, day for day? A few service robots have entered the market: domestic and professional cleaning robots, lawnmowers, milking robots, or entertainment robots. Some of these robots look more like toys or gadgets rather than real robots. But where is the rest? This is a question, which is asked not only by customers, but also by service providers, care organizations, politicians, and funding agencies. The answer is not very satisfying. Today's service robots have their problems operating in everyday environments. This is by far more challenging than operating an industrial robot behind a fence. There is a comprehensive list of technical and scientific problems, which still need to be solved. To advance the state of the art in service robotics towards robots, which are capable of operating in an everyday environment, was the major objective of the DESIRE project (Deutsche Service Robotik Initiative – Germany Service Robotics Initiative) funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) under grant no. 01IME01A. This book offers a sample of the results achieved in DESIRE.

Let us first describe the purpose of this book, starting with the explanation of its title. In general, scheduling problems can be understood very broadly as the problems of allocating resources over time to perform a set of tasks being parts of some processes, among which computational and manufacturing ones are most important. Tasks individually compete for resources which can be of a very different nature, e.g. manpower, money, processors (machines), energy, tools. The same is true for task characteristics, e.g. ready times, due dates, relative ur­ gency weights, functions describing task processing in relation to allotted re­ sources. Moreover, a structure of a set of tasks, reflecting precedence constraints among them, can be defined in different ways. In addition, different criteria which measure the quality of the performance of a set of tasks can be taken into account. It is easy to imagine that scheduling problems understood so generally ap­ pear almost everywhere in real-world situations. Of course, there are many as­ pects concerning approaches for modeling and solving these problems which are of general methodological importance. On the other hand, however, some classes of scheduling problems have their own specificity which should be taken into ac­ count. Since it is rather impossible to treat all these classes with the same atten­ tion in a framework of one book, some constraints must be put on the subject area considered. In the case of this book these constraints are as follows.
