- Abstract
Maxwell's equations explain the basics of electricity and magnetism. The four equations provide a mathematical model for electric, optical, and radio technologies. And yet, when learning electromagnetic field theory, it is easy to get lost in the complicated mathematics and ignore the applied aspects of it. The purpose of this book is to bridge the gap between theory and applications of Maxwell's equations. This book introduces readers to the mathematics of Maxwell's equations and their uses in both everyday applications such as power generation, electric motors, wireless communication, as well as in scientific research. Each chapter in the book starts with an introduction to a specific Maxwell's equation followed by examples of ways in which the equation is used.

- Abstract
The book meticulously details a constructive mathematical model of a stochastic noise process, specifically a linear random process and its characteristics. Theoretical reasoning on the relationship between random processes with independent increments and those with independent values, known as random processes of white noise, is provided. The model of a linear random process serves as a mathematical representation of colored noises in various hues. Characteristics of both non-stationary and stationary linear random processes are elucidated, with emphasis on their ergodic properties, crucial for practical applications. The study also encompasses the vector linear random process, portraying a model of multi-channel noise signals. A novel contribution to the theory of random functions is the development of a constructive model of a conditional linear random process. This involves determining its distribution laws in the form of a characteristic function and relevant statistical characteristics, which can serve as potential indicators for identifying stochastic noise processes. The book revisits research on periodic stochastic models, examining cyclic, rhythmic, natural, and artificial phenomena, processes, and signals. A comprehensive analysis of the linear periodic random process is conducted, and the identification characteristics of periodic models of stochastic noise signals are explored. Significant attention is directed toward employing contour and phase methods as a theoretical foundation for addressing narrow-band noise signal identification challenges.

- Abstract
This book addresses microwave researchers, engineers, and Master's and Ph.D. students. It follows the idea of the first Edition to educate the readers on fundamental electromagnetics and show how this brilliant theory is used in developing modern multi-physics microwave and terahertz hardware. The first three chapters discuss the main ideas and methods of electromagnetism, explained in a manner that is clear for readers who have had some initial knowledge of electromagnetism. Chapters 4 and 5 are on transmission lines. The first text is on the integrated ones for digital applications, which have been working since DC up to several tens or hundreds of gigahertz. The next chapter is on the waveguides for terahertz frequencies. In this book, the space-modulated signals application, compared to the 1st Edition, is considered using the example of a novel predicate variable logic processor designed and verified in an FPGA environment (Chapter 6). This idea, born initially in microwaves, allowed an eight-logic-style re-configurable on-the-fly processor. Chapters 7–9 discuss microwaves in heating liquids and the initiation of rapid chemical reactions in novel miniature quasi-TEM wave reactors. Chapter 10 involves results on trapping and transporting ultra-cold matter using combined techniques. The new results described here are on numerical simulation of trapping of ultra-cold atoms in random 3D optical potentials using the Anderson effect. In conclusion, the author hopes this book will strengthen the young generation's interest in microwave field theory. He believes that advanced electromagnetism, combined with other physics branches, will play a crucial role in developing new, improved components and systems, and this book is a stepping-stone example in that journey.

- Abstract
This book provides solutions to a complex of internal and external problems of electromagnetics associated with the development of theory, construction of mathematical models and the development of rigorous methods for calculating the electrodynamic characteristics of radiating structures and antenna arrays with impedance vibrator and slot elements. The issues related to the impedance synthesis of antenna arrays and analysis of large-aperture rectenna arrays are considered. Solutions to the problems of determining the electrodynamic characteristics of impedance vibrators, slot and multi-element radiators with arbitrary geometric and electrophysical parameters are obtained within the framework of a unified methodological approach to constructing asymptotic solutions of integral equations for currents. This approach made it possible to study a number of new vibrator, slotted, and combined vibrator-slotted structures and their multi-element systems. The original research results reveal the possibilities of using such structures as basic elements for creating modern antenna-waveguide devices operating in the range from meter to millimeter wavelengths which have new technical characteristics and functionalities. This book is intended for senior and postgraduate students and researchers working in the fields of radiophysics, radio engineering and antenna-feeder design. The book covers the following topics: Excitation of Electromagnetic Fields in Electrodynamic Volumes with Coordinate Boundaries General Aspects of the Theory of Thin Impedance Vibrators and Narrow Slots in a Quasi-One-Dimensional Approximation Impedance Vibrators Antenna Arrays Slotted Waveguide Antenna Arrays Combined Vibrator-Slot Antenna Arrays Impedance Synthesis for Vibrator Antenna Arrays Impedance Synthesis for Slot Antenna Arrays Large-Aperture Rectenna Arrays of Wireless Power Transmission Systems Ultrawideband Combined Vibrator-Slot Antenna Arrays

- Abstract
The identity of Taiwan is a matter of intense local and international debate. This book shows how engineers helped produce two distinct visions of the land of Taiwan and its people, elevating the value of engineering as a career path in the process. The book describes how the technical work of engineers, which typically avoids partisan politics, can actually contribute to partisan differences and conflict. In most countries, the rise of engineering is about the emergence of a single dominant vision of the country. In Taiwan, two distinct visions of the land and its people emerged, owing to the presence of two distinct geographical identities—islanders and mainlanders. The distributed mode of production in the electronics industry proved to be transformative and created an “abnormal boys'club” of engineers, as one group called themselves. Because the two communities were influenced by contrasting geographical identities, they felt as though they were working for different Taiwans.'What a book. Engineers and the Two Taiwans traces how engineers creatively crafted professional identities and pathways in the cracks of multiple, shifting empires – and in so doing helped create Taiwan as a thing-unto-itself. In showing how engineers shaped and were shaped by geopolitics and the birth of a new electronics industry, the book opens up fresh perspectives on longstanding questions about who engineers are, how they are trained, where they ought to work, and ultimately what engineering is for. These engineers did politics through their material commitments even as they avoided partisan politics.'Jessica M. Smith, Editor-in-chief, Engineering Studies, Professor, Engineering, Design, and Society Department, Colorado School of Mines'This book explores Taiwan's dynamic industrial evolution over the past century through the lens of different engineers'social dynamics, identity, values, and compelling narratives. It offers insights into Taiwanese own perceptions in the electronics industry and prompts reflection on how countries navigate domestic and international technology policies and social progress. You will come to appreciate how engineers in Taiwan today bear continuing responsibilities to connect their technical work to its land and people, even when their own commitments differ from one another.'Minn-Tsong Lin, Deputy Minister, National Science and Technology Council, Taiwan, Distinguished Professor, Department of Physics, National Taiwan University

- Abstract
This book presents the result of an innovative challenge, to create a systematic literature overview driven by machine-generated content. Questions and related keywords were prepared for the machine to query, discover, collate and structure by Artificial Intelligence (AI) clustering. The AI-based approach seemed especially suitable to provide an innovative perspective as the topics are indeed both complex, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary, for example, climate, planetary and evolution sciences. Springer Nature has published much on these topics in its journals over the years, so the challenge was for the machine to identify the most relevant content and present it in a structured way that the reader would find useful. The automatically generated literature summaries in this book are intended as a springboard to further discoverability. They are particularly useful to readers with limited time, looking to learn more about the subject quickly and especially if they are new to the topics. Springer Nature seeks to support anyone who needs a fast and effective start in their content discovery journey, from the undergraduate student exploring interdisciplinary content to Master- or PhD-thesis developing research questions, to the practitioner seeking support materials, this book can serve as an inspiration, to name a few examples. It is important to us as a publisher to make the advances in technology easily accessible to our authors and find new ways of AI-based author services that allow human-machine interaction to generate readable, usable, collated, research content.

Intelligent electromechanical systems (SEMS) are used in cyber-physical systems that have the ability to integrate computing, transmission and storage of information, monitoring and management of objects of the physical world. Modern intelligent robots are created based on CMS modules. A distinctive feature of SEMS is the presence of a central nervous system (CNS) similar to a human one. The Central Nervous System ensures that decisions about appropriate behavior are made in accordance with the goals of SEMS based on rational knowledge about the environment in which it operates, and in accordance with its own technical and mental state. For the Central nervous system, the extraction and processing of this external information by the central nervous system is an integral part of the process of forming their situational control systems. Moreover, in order for SEMS to act expediently in a changing and unfamiliar environment and without human participation, it is necessary to endow them with properties similar to the mental properties of animals, since emotions and temperament are among the main assessments of the behavior of highly organized organisms. Therefore, it is quite natural to take into account the influence of emotions on decision-making in conditions of incomplete information about the environment, especially when SEMS interacts with a person to perform complex technological operations.. Despite the existing technical difficulties, a significant number of mathematical and software tools have accumulated to date, providing the CNS SEMS with the ability to take into account the psyche when interacting with a person. Limitations of sensory capabilities and computing power should be attributed to the limited cognitive abilities of artificial intelligence. These features of the central nervous system of modern SEMS must be taken into account when creating mathematical and software tools for SEMS information and measurement systems, for the formation of databasesand knowledge, for recognition and classification, decision-making and the formation of control actions.
