Der Autor stellt in diesem Buch die Planungs- und Baugeschichte der Werksarchitektur des 1907 als Stuhlfabrik gegründeten Möbelproduzenten Wilkhahn in Bad Münder dar. Schwerpunkt der Abhandlung ist die Entstehung der Bauten von Frei Otto (1988) und Thomas Herzog (1992), die zu den bedeutendsten deutschen Industriebauten ihrer Zeit gehören. Zur Untersuchung der Hintergründe und Kontexte ihrer Entstehung wurde zum ersten Mal das umfangreiche Quellenmaterial ausgewertet. Darin sind auch die alternativen Planungsideen von Uwe Kiessler und der Planungsgruppe Gestering dokumentiert. Abschließend zieht der Autor sechs historische und zeitgenössische Fabrikbauten für vergleichende Betrachtungen heran (AEG in Berlin, Deutsche Werkstätten in Hellerau, Fagus in Alfeld, Rosenthal in Kronach, Vitra in Weil und B. Braun in Melsungen). Mit ihnen werden die Wilkhahn-Bauten von Frei Otto und Thomas Herzog in die Geschichte der Fabrikarchitektur des 20. Jahrhunderts eingeordnet. Die Vergleiche bezüglich ausgewählter Aspekte machen Faktoren und Erkenntnisse deutlich, die auch für andere Projekte des Fabrikbaus relevant sein können.

This book presents the manufacture and development of products from a novel material formulation as a bio-based paper material using 3D printing for engineering purposes. The approach is to optimize the material behavior and the manufacturing process to achieve a high level of quality and accuracy. A wide range of formulations are investigated to select homogeneous pastes with high 3D printing potential for best outcomes. This is accomplished through customization and optimization under the control of rheological behavior and printing parameters. Mechanical characterization is investigated to identify the adhesion and other properties of the paste formulation. Potential applications for the built environment in façade construction are presented, which match the material properties and benefit the most from the complexity offered by additive manufacturing technology. This book presents the numerical results of the use of the chemical model to analyse the advancement of the reaction and the mechanical model to simulate creep and shrinkage phenomena in COMSOL Multiphysics®, as a way to reassess concrete structures suffering from those mechanisms. Both models were implemented separately to evaluate their responses and compare them with the theoretical results and experimental benchmarks presented in the literature. The numerical simulation results showed excellent agreement with the experimental results data, with maximum disagreement not exceeding 10%, indicating that the implementation of the developed numerical models behaved very efficiently.
