This book is a personal anthology of the author's utmost academic works and accomplishments with his former students and colleagues intended as an enduring record for the engineering community for many years to come.The author's forty-year professional career and academic life journey is first briefly sketched in Chapter 1 and more details are elaborated in three chapters that follow: Chapter 2: The first ten years at Lehigh — beginning to show; Chapter 3: Twenty=three years at Purdue — the highly productive years; and Chapter 4: seven years at UH — the pursuit of excellence. The author's specific academic contributions are documented in the following three chapters: Chapter 5: 23 academic bulletins are selected to highlight his 10 major research areas; Chapter 6: 23 Academic masterpiece books are listed along with their respective peer review comments; and Chapter 7: academic publications include journal articles, conference proceedings and symposiums, and lectures and keynotes. The book ends with the listing of all the author's 55 doctoral students'dissertation titles in Chapter 8.In 1975 at Lehigh, the author published a milestone treatise on Limit Analysis and Soil Plasticity. In 1982 at Purdue, he published another pioneering work on Plasticity in Reinforced Concrete.In September 1999, the author was recruited by UH to take the Deanship of the College of Engineering to accomplish the noble mission: to build the College to become one of the top 50 engineering schools by strengthening the faculty, improving the facilities, and increasing the enrollment. The 2016 International Conference on Mechanics and Architectural Design (MAD2016) were held in Suzhou, Jiangsu, China, 14 - 15 May 2016. The main objective of this conference is to provide a platform for researchers, academics and industrial professionals to present their research findings in the fields of Architecture, Mechanical and Civil Engineering.This proceedings consists of 90 articles selected after peer-review. It consists of 6 articles in Mechanics, and 84 articles covering research and development in Civil Engineering; addressing issues in building architecture and structure. Most of these projects were funded by the Chinese research agencies.

The 5th International Conference on Civil Engineering and Urban Planning (CEUP2016) was held in Xi'an, China on August 23 - 26, 2016. CEUP2016 gathered outstanding scientists and researchers worldwide to exchange and discuss new findings in civil engineering and urban planning associated with transportation and environmental topics. The conference program committee is also greatly honored to have four renowned experts for taking time off to present their keynotes to the conference.The conference had received a total of 410 submissions, which after peer review by the Technical Program Committee, only 108 were selected to be included in this conference proceedings, which covers Architecture and Urban Planning; Civil Engineering and Transportation Engineering.

There is an increasing need to construct engineering structures in the Arctic seas. The requirement is principally generated by the oil and gas industry, because of the substantial reserves that are known to exist offshore in the Beaufort Sea, the Caspian Sea, the Barents Sea, the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Sakhalin, the Canadian Arctic, and almost certainly elsewhere. Structures have to withstand the severe environmental forces generated by sea ice, a subject that is developing rapidly but is still far from completely understood. Underwater pipelines have to be safe against ice gouging and strudel scour, but also have to be constructed safely and economically. The social and human environment has to be understood and respected.This important book intentionally takes a broad view, and vividly accounts for the many and often subtle interactions between the different factors. It is illustrated by case studies of actual projects.

Coastal Structures are undergoing renewal and innovation to better serve the needs of our society - from environmental co-existence and habitat enhancement to risk management. The CSt07 conference is the fifth in a series that highlight significant progress in the innovation, design and construction of coastal structures. Proceedings of these CSt conferences have yielded milestone works, frequently cited references in the field.This two-volume proceedings contains the final revised version of 178 papers that have been reviewed, selected and discussed at the CSt07 conference. This publication contains the abstracts of 20 papers, the majority of which were presented at the International Workshop on Limit State Design in Geotechnical Engineering Practice (LSD2003). ICSSD 2002 is the second in the series of International Conferences on Structural Stability and Dynamics, which provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences in structural stability and dynamics among academics, engineers, scientists and applied mathematicians. Fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcement has been used in construction as either internal or external reinforcement for concrete structures in the past decade.
