The book presents the history of city sociology, offers new reading and interpretation of classical works from the 19th and 20th centuries, and a general overview of the existing theories of the city. At the same time, it maps some current debates that take place in the field of interdisciplinary urban studies and which greatly changes the way social scientists look at cities today. In addition to an overview of how city sociology has evolved over the past hundred years in an international context, the book also offers an interpretation of the history of urban studies in the local environment and examines the interconnection of Czech sociology with international art in the past and today.
