This book explores the role of'home'in the lives of displaced people, including voluntary and forced migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced people and temporary workers. For displaced people, home is something lost, longed for and sometimes found anew. It is a community of people in an environment of relationships and a physical dwelling that provide a sense of safety, security, hope and belonging. Much of the efforts of refugees, migrants and exiles are devoted to rebuilding a home, through a combination of personal effort and collaboration with the political and social environment of the host community. Maria Sophia Aguirre and Antonio Argandoña bring together an interdisciplinary collection of contributors to analyse these challenges through the lenses of economics, law, sociology, psychology, communications, management and political science. The book offers numerous suggestions for assistance aimed not only at the short-term problems of displaced people but also at ensuring their human dignity. The alt-right movement in the United States has actively been endorsing the use of left theory to achieve its ends—and with varying degrees of success. Tracing occasions where figures on the alt-right reference left theory, this volume asks if the alt-right's reference of left theory is just bad reading, or are there troubling ways that certain types of left theory encourage such interpretations? What if the connections between left theory and the alt-right lie in the shared disdain for certain types of institutions, structures of power, and the status quo? Are there lessons to be learned in what can often appear as an overlapping desire to deconstruct concepts like truth, justice, freedom, and democracy? Drawing on the longer history of right-wing readings of left theory, this volume seeks to unpack these recent developments and consider their impact on the future of theory.

The contributions of the present volume outline the historical development and the intricate literary, artistic, journalistic and scientific communication and distribution networks of the moral weeklies and periodical essays inspired by the Spectator prototype in Europe and North America. Thus, these periodicals become visible as parts and products of ramified learned and creative negotiations on genres, writing techniques and topics.

This book broadens the frameworks by which horror is generally addressed. Rather than being constrained by psychoanalytical models of repression and castration, the volume embraces M.M. Bakhtin's theory of the grotesque body. For Bakhtin, the grotesque body is always a political body, one that exceeds the boundaries and borders that seek to contain it, to make it behave and conform. This vital theoretical intervention allows Transnational Horror Cinema to widen its scope to the social and cultural work of these global bodies of excess and the economy of their grotesque exchanges. With this in mind, the authors consider these bodies'potentials to explore and perhaps to explode rigid cultural scripts of embodiment, including gender, race, and ability.

Im Dialog mit Maurice Merleau-Pontys Phänomenologie der Wahrnehmung, Jacques Lacans Psychoanalyse des Blicks sowie Pierre Bourdieus Habitustheorie wird diese »Geschichte des Sehens« weiter geschärft und zu einer umfassenden praxistheoretischen Heuristik ausgebaut. Obwohl Pierre Bourdieu in den letzten drei Jahrzehnten international zum meistzitierten Sozialwissenschaftler aufgestiegen ist, zeichnet sich erst in den letzten Jahren auch eine Öffnung zu kulturwissenschaftlichen Themenstellungen in seinem Werk ab. Diesen Impuls aufgreifend, nähert sich der vorliegende Band der Bourdieu'schen Theorie aus einer genuin kulturwissenschaftlichen Perspektive. This book presents the methodology and results of a three-year, eleven-country science-to-policy research project – Toward a Policy Model of Multifunctional Agriculture and Rural Development – undertaken between 2005 and 2008 and financed under the European Union's Sixth Framework program. It deals with an important contemporary policy issue: how best to ensure that an agriculturally-based policy can contribute to the development of rural regions. It tackles this problem in a number of different but complementary ways, primarily by the development of a unique and innovative dynamic systems model, POMMARD (a Policy Model of Multifunctional Agriculture and Rural Development).
