Trotzdem erfährt das Land im Vergleich zur Stadt von der Soziologie noch immer zu wenig Aufmerksamkeit. Die Beiträger•innen nehmen sich diesem Desiderat an und liefern kompakt und verständlich wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse zur ländlichen Transformation. Aus verschiedenen soziologischen Perspektiven betrachten sie u.a. Aspekte wie Digital Farming, Migrationsethik, Mobilität in peripheren Regionen oder die Ästhetik von Landschaften - und geben so Impulse für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung ländlicher Regionen.

177 Lovers and Counting: My Life as a Sex Researcher offers a transcultural perspective on gender and sexuality through engaging personal accounts of the author's participant-observation research in multiple countries and cultures across the globe. Dr. Leanna Wolfe draws from anthropology, sexology, evolutionary psychology, and sociology, effortlessly weaving together personal stories along with qualitative and quantitative cross-cultural studies to shed light on relationships, genders, and sexualities. In this autoethnography that is both personal and clinical, Wolfe describes and analyzes personal experiences conducting participant-observation research toward understanding the social context of sex, gender, and relationships. In response to the close link between economic and population issues recognized by the United Nations in 1957, the World Health Organization (WHO) was prompted to address the concerns of developing nations dealing with slow economic growth and high population growth by 1964. Establishing the Human Reproduction Unit in 1965, WHO outlined its strategy in 1965, acknowledging the repercussions of population changes on health conditions. A pivotal development occurred in 1970 when global organizations convened to discuss a research program on human reproduction, leading to the creation of the Expanded Programme of Research, Development, and Research Training in Human Reproduction (HRP) in 1971. The HRP, with its scientifically authoritative and neutral methods, significantly contributed to the development of contraception methods, which are still in use today. Additionally, the program played a role in disseminating these methods through a discourse rooted in human rights principles. This historical narrative highlights WHO's enduring commitment to addressing global health challenges related to population and reproductive health.

The main focus of volume 51 is the analysis of an array of literary texts - all being different with regards to its themes and content. These include the tower poems of Friedrich Hölderlin, novels that explore human-animal relations, texts that historically contributed towards the portrayal of travel and tourism, works that represent Iceland in German literature, and memoires in which cross-cultural eco-criticism is expressed. Beyond the literary analyses, the notion of the Herero genocide is considered as discursive event, the Bundestag election slogans examined from a sociolinguistic perspective, and the teaching of collocations and the importance of phraseological competence in foreign languages investigated. Special contributions conclude the volume - all with a focus on belonging. Contributions here explore comparisons between forms of belonging in the Namibian, French and German cultures, narratives of mobility and belonging, belonging as conceptual tool for the analysis of autobiographies and music videos, the ways in which belonging is narrated, and the construction of Afropean identities.

This collection examines the relationship between illustration and adaptation from an intermedial and transcultural perspective. It aims to foster a dialogue between two fields that co-exist without necessarily acknowledging advances in each other's domains, providing an argument for defining illustration as a form of adaptation, as well as an intermedial practice that redefines what we mean by adaptation. The volume embraces both a specific and an extended definition of illustration that accounts for its inclusion among the web of adaptive practices that developed with the rise of new media and intermediality. The contributors explore how crossovers may contribute to reappraise their objects, and rely on a transmedial and interdisciplinary corpus exploring the boundaries between illustration and other media such as texts, graphic novels, comics, theatre, film and mobile applications. Arguably adaptation, like intermediality, is an umbrella term that covers a variety of practices and products, and both of them have been shaped by intense debates over their boundaries and internal definitions. Illustration belongs to each of these areas, and this volume proposes insight into how illustration not only relates to adaptation and intermediality but how each field is redefined, enriched and also challenged by such interactions.

This book provides the results of an extensive scientific measurements campaign using advanced technologies and innovative non-invasive approaches carried out for the first time in such large numbers inside one of the most important baroque residences in Italy, the Chigi Palace in Ariccia, near Rome (Italy), with the aims of monitoring, characterizing and documenting several kinds of heritage items with different conservative and artistic issues. The analyses involved several research groups from regional universities (Sapienza, Tor Vergata, Roma 3) and research institutions (ENEA, INFN, CNR) and they were performed within the ADAMO project, which was addressed to technologies of analysis, diagnostics and monitoring for the preservation and restoration of Cultural Heritage. The project was proposed by the Centre of Excellence at the Technological District for Cultural Heritage (DTC) financed by the Lazio Region. At the Chigi Palace, important collections of paintings, documents, statues and wall decorations are preserved, dating back from the 16th up to the 18th centuries. The purpose of this book is twofold: it provides an overview of methodologies and technologies currently available in the field of heritage science, through the presentation of their in situ applications for the study of different artworks and materials; furthermore, it shows how the non-invasive analyses and the integration of diagnostic results are useful and sometimes crucial, for the overall understanding of heritage items, their conservation status, and for their correct conservation. This book is addressed at a large audience with both humanistic and scientific backgrounds, focusing the reader's attention on the information gained from multidisciplinary studies, also allowing a curious look at scientific methodologies applied to an art-historical context.

Playing with the relation between truth and representation in the stories we tell as ethnographers and theater makers, this book contributes to the current debates around experimental research methodologies and ethnographically grounded theatrical forms. For centuries the people of Africa have been on the move, seeking new opportunities, fleeing from dangers, or tragically uprooted through human greed and cruelty.
