Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders (SSD) manifest multidimensionally, presenting a syndromic nature with several symptomatic domains. Alfredo Ferro's impact on information technology has traversed diverse domains, encompassing Computational Logic, Data Mining, Bioinformatics, and Complex Systems. After first studying Mathematics at the University of Catania, he received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from NYU in 1981, working under the supervision of Jacob Theodor (Jack) Schwartz. He returned to the University of Catania where he established the Computer Science undergraduate program, served as the coordinator of the Ph.D. program in Computer Science, cofounded the Ph.D. program in Biology, Human Genetics, and Bioinformatics, and retired as a full professor in 2021.Alfredo's academic career as a computer scientist is characterized by two distinct research phases: Computational Logic until approximately 1995, followed by a notable focus on Data Mining and Bioinformatics. The contributions in this volume reflect the quality and the scope of his personal and collaborative successes.He also taught andinspired many excellent scientists. A pioneering initiative was to establish summer schools for Ph.D. students in 1989, leading to the so-called Lipari School, now the J.T. Schwartz International School for Scientific Research, where Alfredo continues to serve as director. This updated book proposes applications of tensor decomposition to unsupervised feature extraction and feature selection. The author posits that although supervised methods including deep learning have become popular, unsupervised methods have their own advantages. He argues that this is the case because unsupervised methods are easy to learn since tensor decomposition is a conventional linear methodology. This book constitutes the Third 3D Head and Neck Tumor Segmentation in PET/CT Challenge, HECKTOR 2022, which was held in conjunction with the 25th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention, MICCAI 2022, on September 22, 2022.The 22 contributions presented, as well as an overview paper, were carefully reviewed and selected from 24 submissions. Dytiscids constitute one of the largest families of freshwater insects with approximately 4,650 named species that come in a variety of sizes, colors, and habitat affinities. Although dytiscid adults and larvae are ubiquitous throughout a variety of aquatic habitats, and are important predators on other aquatic invertebrates and vertebrates, there are no compilations that have focused on summarizing the knowledge on aspects of their ecology, systematics, and biology. Chapters in this book summarize hitherto scattered topics, including their anatomy and habitats, chemical and community ecology, phylogenies and larval morphology including chaetotaxy, sexual systems, predation, dispersal, conservation, and cultural and historical aspects. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 19th Annual RECOMB Satellite Workshop on Comparative Genomics, RECOMB-CG which took place in La Jolla, USA, during May 20-21, 2022. The 18 full papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 28 submissions. This book combines medicinal and engineering knowledge to present engineering modelling applications (mainly computational, but also experimental) in the context of facilitating a patient-centred approach to treating congenital heart disease (CHD). After introducing the basic concepts of engineering tools, it discusses modelling and the applications of engineering techniques (e.g. computational fluid dynamics, fluid-structure interaction, structural simulations, virtual surgery, advanced image analysis, 3D printing) in specific congenital heart diseases. It also offers a number of clinical case studies describing the applications in real-life clinical practice. The final section focuses on the importance of surgical training, counselling and patient communication. Considering the unique anatomical arrangement pre/post repair in CHD, as well as the different surgical strategy and device options (e.g. stents) for interventions, a patient-specific approach is certainly warranted in this area of medicine, and engineering is helping improve our understanding of individual patients and their particular anatomy and physiology.
