This book is a collection of research papers selected for presentation at the International Conference on Smart Computational Methods in Continuum Mechanics 2021, organized by Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and the Institute for Computer Aided Design of Russian Academy of Sciences. The work is presented in two volumes. The primary objective of the book is to report the state-of-the-art on smart computational paradigms in continuum mechanics and explore the use of artificial intelligence paradigms such as neural nets and machine learning for improving the performance of the designed engineering systems. The book includes up-to-date smart computational methods which are used to solve problems in continuum mechanics, engineering, seismic prospecting, non-destructive testing, and so on. The main features of the book are the research papers on the application of novel smart methods including neural nets and machine learning, computational algorithms, smart software systems, andhigh-performance computer systems for solving complex engineering problems. The case studies pertaining to the real-world applications in the above fields are included. The book presents a collection of best research papers in English language from some of the world leaders in the field of smart system modelling and design of engineering systems.

Scope, Aims, and Audiences This book, Level Set Methods and Dynamic Implicit Surfaces is designed to serve two purposes: Parts I and II introduce the reader to implicit surfaces and level set methods. We have used these chapters to teach introductory courses on the material to students with little more than a fundamental math background. No prior knowledge of partial di?erential equations or numerical analysis is required. These?rst eight chapters include enough detailed information to allow students to create working level set codes from scratch. Parts III and IV of this book are based on a series of papers published by us and our colleagues. For the sake of brevity, a few details have been occasionally omitted. These chapters do include thorough explanations and enough of the signi?cant details along with the appropriate references to allow the reader to get a?rm grasp on the material. This book is an introduction to the subject. We have given examples of the utility of the method to a diverse (but by no means complete) collection of application areas. We have also tried to give complete numerical recipes and a self-contained course in the appropriate numerical analysis. We - lieve that this book will enable users to apply the techniques presented here to real problems.

The book covers the theories and physics of advanced new optical measuring methods and problems of experimental performance, recent achievements in the basic interferometric methods holography, speckle-interferometry, shearography as well as linear/non-linear photoelasticity and photoviscoelasticity, Moiré- and grid-techniques. It deals with theory and application of digital image processing, methods of data recording, data processing and -visualisation, with mathematical/numerical procedures for final evaluation of digitised measured data and the principle of hybrid techniques. It introduces into the new perceptions of methods in experimental solid mechanics and it should encourage scientists to deal intensively with the theories for further developments, and enables practitioners, to understand theory and physics of the new achievements at least and to apply the methods in research als well as in developments in practice.

Image Correlation for Shape, Motion and Deformation Measurements provides a comprehensive overview of data extraction through image analysis.
