- Abstract
GIDEON Guide to Antimicrobial Agents summarizes the status of 317 generic antimicrobial agents. In the first section, Drugs by Class and Indication, each pathogen or disease is followed by a list of relevant treatment options. The second section displays an alphabetical list of all diseases followed by GIDEON. Many of these diseases are generic (Pneumonia - bacterial, Heterophyid infections) and list only a general statement of treatment options (ie,'antibiotics appropriate to infecting species') The third section, is arranged alphabetically, by drug name, and includes the following subsections: General, including: Mechanism of action Typical dosage for adults and children Penetration into cerebrospinal and other fluids Serum half-life Elimination and metabolism Dosage adjustments for renal failure and dialysis Toxicity Drug-Drug interactions Spectrum and in-vitro testing criteria Proprietary (trade) names This is one in a series of GIDEON ebooks which explore all individual infectious diseases, drugs, vaccines, outbreaks, surveys and pathogens in every country of the world. Data are based on the GIDEON web application (www.gideononline.com) which relies on standard textbooks and peer-review journals, supplemented by an ongoing search of the medical literature.
