This is a selection of papers from the 14th International Conference on Historical Linguistics held August 9-13, 1999, at the University of British Columbia. From the rich program and the many papers given during this conference, the present twenty-three papers were carefully selected to display the state of current research in the field of historical linguistics.

This publication provides general and statistical information on forest products markets and related policies in Europe, North America and the Commonwealth of Independent States. The Review begins with an overview chapter, followed by analysis of government and industry policies and market-based implements affecting forest products markets. The third chapter is on innovation in the forest sector. Five chapters are based on annual country-supplied statistics, describing: wood raw materials, sawn softwood, sawn hardwood, wood-based panels, and paper, paperboard and woodpulp. Additional chapters discuss markets for wood energy, value-added wood products, and housing. In each chapter, production, trade and consumption are analysed and relevant material on specific markets is included. Tables and graphs provided throughout the text present summary information.

This volume of the Annual Review for the Sociology of Religion adresses the challenges of the diversity and complexity of sociological approaches to Asian forms and dynamics of Asian or Asian-inpired ascetic ideas and practices. Volume 12/13 of Aldous Huxley Annual begins with a discussion of a lecture Huxley gave in Italian, an appraisal of his never-completed project of a novel on Catherine of Siena, and his recently re-discovered drawings for'Leda.'Further critical articles on particular aspects of Huxley's work follow, together with the second Peter Edgerly Firchow Memorial Prize Essay by Hisashi Ozawa of King's College London. A painting by Carolyn Mary Kleefeld ushers in the second part of the issue, which contains a first selection of papers from the Oxford Symposium held in 2013.

This English-language volume is an edited collection including several translations of articles from the 2008 and 2009 Chinese-language volumes of the Green Book of Population and Labor. In this second volume of the yearbook series, demographic scholar and economist Cai Fang offers policy guidance to the central government for an era of less favorable demographic circumstances than those experienced in the past. These papers consider how the Chinese economy can prosper despite a labor supply that is no longer “infinite,” and they propose ways that China might reap the benefits of a “second demographic dividend.”

The Israel Yearbook on Human Rights- an annual published under the auspices of the Faculty of Law of Tel Aviv University since 1971- is devoted to publishing studies by distinguished scholars in Israel and other countries on human rights in peace and war, with particular emphasis on problems relevant to the State of Israel and the Jewish people. The Yearbook also incorporates documentary materials relating to Israel and the Administered Areas which are not otherwise available in English (including summaries of judicial decisions, compilations of legislative enactments and military proclamations). The highlight of Volume 36 of the Israel Yearbook on Human Rights is a reproduction of the full text and commentary of a new Manual relating to Non-International Armed Conflicts (prepared by a Drafting Committee under the aegis of the San Remo International Institute of Humanitarian Law). This is a sequel to the well-known San Remo Manual on International Law Applicable to Armed Conflicts at Sea, published in 1995. The new Manual reflects the results of a larger Project launched by the Institute, the background papers of which were printed in full in volume 30 (2000) of the Yearbook. The sphere of non-international armed conflicts is gaining increasing importance and attention due to the growing frequency and menace of internal wars. The imperative need to come up with an authoritative restatement of the law governing these conflicts has become obvious. This is a first attempt of its kind, and it is bound to arouse interest and debate.
