Brain, Decision Making, and Mental Health acknowledges that thinking is not a constant phenomenon but varies considerably across cultures. Critical thinking is particularly important in bridging thinking divisions and its applicability across sciences, particularly medical sciences. We see critical thinking as educable and the arts as means to achieve this purpose. We address the multidimensional relationship between thinking and health and related mechanisms. Thinking mainly affects emotion regulation and executive function; in other words, both mental and physical health are related as a function of thoughts. Considering the thinking‐feeling‐emotion regulation/executive function pathway, it would be reasonable to propose thinking capacities‐based interventions to impact emotion regulation and executive function, such as mindfulness and psychotherapy. Lawmakers prefer to draw clear distinctions, but biology is characterized by continua: both in terms of how development proceeds within a person and how it differs from other people. However, this does not mean that age limits are arbitrary. This book extends the author's previous research on the Dutch juvenile criminal law, which was founded on the brain development of adolescents and has been in use for more than a decade. The role of age limits in death and life sentences in the US and the new cannabis legislation in Germany are also analyzed in depth. This project combines biological, psychological and social knowledge and puts forward a pragmatic proposal to connect the two fields of brain development and law. This book provides an understanding of body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), a psychiatric classification that is characterized by a preoccupation with a perceived or slight imperfection in physical appearance. This book provides an overview of the science and practice of relational savoring, a brief, guided reflection exercise that helps clients reconnect with memories of being closely connected with another person. Positive connection with others provide essential psychological benefits. Yet for many therapy clients, it is all too easy to overlook these positive moments. Relational savoring helps clients reflect on and value these experiences and relationships, to achieve improved relationship satisfaction and better emotion regulation. This book blends research, theory, expert clinical guidance, and compelling case examples to show how therapists can use the relational savoring approach with clients. Therapists first help clients choose an appropriate memory to savor, then guide them through a reflection exercise where they reflect on the emotions, thoughts, and significance associated with a close-connected experience occurring within an attachment relationship (e.g., parent-child or intimate partnerships). Relational savoring is an ideal complement to other, ongoing interventions. Alternatively, the approach can be used on its own. This book is about public mental health needs and aspects of substance use disorders in South Asian countries. South Asia consists of eight countries with low- and middle-income backgrounds. The people of this region, with a combined population of around 2 billion, share common cultures, beliefs, and behavioral patterns regarding physical and mental health. Among them, more than 66 million people use different forms of substances including cannabis, opium and opiates, amphetamine, and prescription drugs. Substance abuse brings deadly consequences. It affects almost all spheres of life, i.e., personal, social, recreational, criminal, and family aspects; both physical and mental health; and economy of the society as well as the country. Advanced management and holistic prevention are public health priorities. However, very little attention has been paid to the issues as a region as well as in countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
