Giuseppe Cardezza explores the dynamics of shame particularly during body oriented therapeutic interventions. Vita Heinrich-Clauer provides an argument for and Bioenergetic techniques for use in self-care of the therapist. Finally, Wera Fauser provides research and rich clinical material on the impact and importance of pre-natal and peri-natal trauma on the individual in psychotherapy. As this is the 30th year and 25th edition, there is an essay of writings tracing the journey of this journal, written by past and recent editors.

This book had its origins In a conference, organised by the Scottish Assocation for Behaviour Modification (SABM), which took place from September 29th to October 2nd, 1980 in Pitlochry, Scotland. The SABM was founded in the early 1970s to fulfil a teaching need and provide a forum at conferences in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland at which mainly clinical psychologists from Scotland and North-West England could discuss research. There have been four such major conferences over the years and the common feature has been the highlighting of research issues mainly in behavioural psychology. At the 4th conference (Pitlochry, 1980), the general emphasis was on the assessment and treatment of chronic illness, although a number of other individual papers were presented. Chapters 4, 5, 8, 10 and 11 are based on papers from the full-day symposium on clinical psychology and physical illness (to which general medical practit­ ioners were invited), although Chapter 8 in particular comprises a much wider review paper than the original conference paper; and Chapter 13 is also a much extended version of a paper accepted for, but not presented at, the conference. Chapters 15, 16, 18 and 19 are based on papers comprising the symposium on behavioural approach­ es to the care of the long-stay psychiatric patient. Chapters 2 and 3 are based on invited individual papers presented at the conference. At the request of the publisher, additional material was commissioned.

Bioenergetic Analysis, the Clinical journal of the IIBA is published annually and is distributed to all members of the international organization. Its purpose is to further elaborate theoretical and scientific concepts and to make links to enhance communication and broaden our connection with other schools of therapy, as well as with academic psychology, medicine, and other psychosomatic schools of thought. The journal publishes reports on empirical research, theoretical papers, and case studies. Some local IIBA societies produce journals in their native languages. This current volume contains tributes to three IIBA trainers who died in 2012 and one review of a self-care book written by a pediatrician, who is also a Bioenergetic therapist. There are five original papers, each from authors of different countries. Elaine Tuccillo writes about the legacy of intergenerational emotional abuse. Garry Cockburn provides concepts to help train the next generation of Bioenergetic students. Margherita Giustiniani presents a variation technique for using the Bioenergetic stool. Christa Ventling explores the use of the word »energy« in Bioenergetics. Arild Hafstad introduces the concept of tensegrity structures in relation to gravity and grounding in Bioenergetics.

As a result, the amount of research and writing on the subject of drug problems has greatly increased, and it has become very difficult for one individual to keep up with all the relevant literature. There is thus an acute need in the field for critical reviews that assess current developments, and the present series is intended to fill this need. The series is not to be an'annual review'in the usual sense. The aim is not to cover all the work reported during the preceding year in relation to a fixed selection of topics. Rather, it is to present each year evaluative papers on topics in which enough recent progress has been made to alter the general scope in a particular area. Owing to the multidisciplinary nature of problems of drug use and dependence, the papers published in each volume will be drawn from several disciplines. However, some volumes may be devoted to one partic­ ular problem, with individual reviews and papers examining various aspects of it. The composition of the editorial board and the international advisory board reflects these objectives. The editors are members of the senior scientific staff of the Addiction Research Foundation of Ontario.

The idea of the International Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences (IPBN) was born as a result of the many occasions where, in the course of working on review articles or meta-analyses (MA) the author frequently encountered papers that needed to be included but were never translated into English. Usually an English abstract is available but this is never sufficient for the purposes of a detailed critical review or a close examination of the data as in meta-analyses. Most researchers simply ignore the published work and is observes the review or the MA uses English as a limiting term in the initial searches for relevant literature, thus weeding out all works done all over the world in other languages. While this is unfortunate, it is understandable as it is usually very expensive to accurately translate such data papers. Furthermore, while working on reviews or MAs one rapidly discovers the very many important works that were not published in English.

This volume contains contributions that are interdisciplinary and inter­ national. The editors believe this is an especially timely and promising enterprise, for both sources of diversity are needed for improving our abilities to identify the young child at risk and to prevent disability. In terms of diSciplines, the volume brings together papers by health care providers (such as pediatricians and public health nurses) as well as educators and psychologists. Each of these groups works in dissimilar settings and faces dissimilar problems: Health care providers seek sim­ ple identification procedures for use in busy primary care settings; psy­ chologists emphasize well-constructed research designs; and educators reflect the need for early identification and education. Each of these spe­ cialist groups has something to offer the other, but too often each tends to limit its publications and readings to its own discipline, thus failing to capitalize on a wider scope. of knowledge and practice. We hope that this selection of papers will allow all readers addressing the early iden­ tification of children at risk to generate a more integrated interdiscipli­ nary perspective. We also hope this volume reflects the sense of excitement that we feel from a sharing of international perspectives. There is no single ap­ proach to the early identification of children at risk that is universally applicable to all countries. In addition, approaches within each country vary because of availability of financial and human resources and dif­ fering expectations of local communities.

The papers compiled in this supplementum are a selection of the best con­ th tributions presented at the 19 Central-European Neurological Symposium (CNS 19) held on June 29 - July 1, 1989 in Vienna. The main topic of this conference was degenerative and age-associated neurological diseases. In recent decades life expectancy has dramatically increased, at least in the industrialized countries. This has led to extreme distortions of the so-called population pyramids that no longer look like such but begin to almost resemble cylinders. As a consequence of this'overaging'of the population, diseases that are associated with age have become much more common than before. It was thus more than reasonable to devote a congress of the CNS series to these important neurological diseases. The following fields of interest are covered: Age-associated memory impairment (AAMI), Alzheimer's and other dementias, Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, stroke and others. Concerning the de men­ tias, some papers deal with diagnosis employing neuro-imaging methods such as MRI, CT, PET and SPECT, others using electrophysiological methods. An important aspect in the early preclinical diagnosis of dementia is the inclusion of neuropsychological tests to enhance the chance of effec­ tive early treatment. Also drugs that are now under clinical investigation are discussed and preliminary results are presented.

This monograph comprises 17 papers written by prominent authors in the field, each of whom presents his most recent experiences. The papers were not specially selected so that this work is far from being a comprehensive textbook covering all aspects of right ventricular hypertrophy and failure in chronic lung disease. Perhaps some of the papers dealing with more strictly physiological problems and experimental models will be somewhat difficult to relate directly to former modes of thinking of both cardiologists and pneumologists. Nevertheless, we hope and expect that this book will provide the reader with, an in-depth appreciation of the situation of present research in different laboratories and countries. Occasionally contradictions between different papers may be noticed. We have not tried to remove these, since each contradiction reflects current areas of dispute or uncertainty in this developing field. In this volume are papers selected from the 1982 Annual Confer­ ence of the American Association for the Study of Mental Imagery, as well as several others that were later invited. This conference, a yearly one, was held at the University of Southern California. Participants and invited speakers come from around the country and present current material on the status of theory, research and practice involving imagery. These conferences began in 1979 and typically have attracted two hundred or more persons. In the opening paper by Paul Bakan we have a discussion of imagery from an historical perspective. He traces the various attitudes toward imagery starting with biblical times and argues that the behaviorist revolution and its antagonism towards imagery were likely reflective of more than a negative ·attitude toward imagery as a consequence of its being associated with consciousness and mental­ istic concepts. We have apparently been ambivalent towards imagery over the millenia. He closes with some suggestions of how we may more happily resolve this situation.

Since 1980, clinical psychologists and other professionals have gathered in Merseyside each year for the'Annual Merseyside Course in Clinical Psychology'. The aim of this annual event is to offer post­ qualification training and a forum for discussion in areas of current clinical interest. Over the years, the course has attracted national and international speakers and attenders of the highest calibre, plus up-to-the-minute reports on current research. In August 1984, the course was held, for the first time, in the beautiful old city of Chester. As always, the papers were presented by leading clinicians and researchers in their respective fields; once again, this included several contributions from Merseyside psychologists. Since 1981, the proceedings of this conference have been published as'Current Issues in Clinical Psychology'. The present volume - Volume 4 - covers four major areas of current interest: The Child and Therapy; Rehabilitation Across the Specialties; New Directions for Psychology and the Law; and Addictive Behaviors. Each of these areas must be relevant to the work of almost all clinical psychologists, at various times. The volume closely reflects the order and content of papers presented at the 1984 conference, although it also includes one paper (by Guliz Elal-Lawrence) written specially for this publication. The 1984 conference was widely acknowledged to be another succes- both academically and socially - and I hope that this volume fully conveys the interesting and stimulating ideas and information enjoyed by those who attended.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Social Robotics, ICSR 2012, held in Chengdu, China, in October 2012. The purpose of the World Psychiatric Association is to coordinate the activities of its Member Societies on a world-wide scale and to advance enquiry into the etiology, pathology, and treatment of mental illness. To further this purpose, the Association organizes mono- or multi thematic Regional Symposia in different parts of the world twice a year, and World Congresses dealing with all individual fields of psychiatry once every five or six years. Between these meetings the continuation of the Association's scientific work is assured through the activities of its specialty sections, each covering an important field of psychiatry. The programs of the World Congresses reflect on the one hand the intention to present the coordinating functions of the Association and on the other to open a broad platform for a free exchange of views. Thus, the VII World Congress of Psychiatry, held in Vienna from July 11 to 16, 1983, was composed of two types of scientific events - those structured by the Association and those left to the initiative of the participants. The first type comprised Plenary Sessions, planned by the Scientific Program Committee, and Section Symposia, organized by the WPA sections; the second embraced Free Symposia, free papers, video sessions, and poster presentations prepared by the participants. Altogether, 10 Plenary Sessions, 52 Section Symposia, and 105 Free Symposia took place, and 78 free papers and poster sessions and 10 video sessions were held.

During the last meeting of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (Barcelona 7-16 September 1987), a Symposium was devoted to the use of calcium antagonists in cerebral vasospasm. As shown by its title'Prevention and treatment of delayed ischaemic dysfunction in patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage: an update', papers presented at the Symposium covered a broad spectrum from some basic data on pathophysiology of subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) and delayed ischaemic dysfunction, to the clinical use of nimodipine, which has been largely documented among calcium inhibitors for its cerebrovascular properties. This supplementum of Acta Neurochirurgica is based upon the papers presented. Some articles, however, have been extended to take into account further results in order to present a broad view of the subject. The Symposium started with two presentations concerning general aspects of SAH: in the first one, B. Voldby reviewed the pathophysiological events following SAH: if modifications of intracranial pressure (ICP) and decrease of cerebral blood flow (CBF) are the primary alterations, metabolic changes (particularly reduction in CMR0) 2 contribute rapidly to disturbances of brain circulation. A variety of mechanisms may be responsible for the neurological dysfunction: most of them are directly related to the reduction in cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP) which may result in ischaemia. This fall in CPP (either due to elevation of ICP or reduction of mean arterial blood pressure) is observed under different pathophysiological conditions, discussed in the paper by A. D. Mendelow.

Tamas Vekerdy, one of the most well-known Hungarian psychologists, called Credo an'essential insight not just into Feldmar's life but into the world and the era that we currently live in.'Feldmar was three and a half years old when the Arrow Cross came and took his mother to Auschwitz, his father to labour service, and his grandmother to the ghetto. A young Catholic woman hid him for a year and a half - perhaps she inspired Feldmar to become the kind stranger in many other people's lives years later. Feldmar was sixteen in 1956 when the revolution was crushed, and he escaped from Hungary to Canada all by himself. He fled from bleak prospects and a controlling, critical mother into the unknown. He ended up in Toronto, Canada, and became an academic. In the early 1970s, he met the person who radically changed his thinking: R. D. Laing. The book's longest chapter,'Journal Entries', comes from notes Feldmar took in 1974-1975 when he studied with Laing in London. He adds notes and remarks in the present to the past, increasing the tension in the already fascinating passages. Following this is the text of an important conversation with Laing, covering topics such as love, therapy, and change. This book presents an in-depth qualitative study carried out with inpatients under treatment for substance use disorders (SUDs) in seven therapeutic communities (TCs) located in three countries: Peru, Nicaragua and Czech Republic. By comparing the experiences in these different cultural contexts, the book presents a grounded theory of SUDs treatment in TCs from a cross-cultural perspective, identifying factors that influence the efficacy of SUDs treatment in TCs based on interviews carried out with inpatients.Based on rigorous qualitative research methods, this book presents not only a comparative analysis of TCs located in different cultural contexts, but also analyzes the cross-cultural nature of the therapeutic programs adopted in these communities, such as the combination of traditional Amazonian medicine based on the therapeutic use of ayahuasca with conventional psychotherapy and occupational therapy, among other approaches. Departing from the interviews carried out with inpatients, the authors present a comparative analysis of how the different TCs address important issues related to SUDs treatment, and complement this analysis with machine-generated summaries of relevant scientific papers. These summaries contain results of similar research projects conducted in other cultural contexts. Substance Use Disorders Treatment in Therapeutic Communities: A Cross-Cultural Approach presents the results of a unique comparative study with great translational potential which will be of interest to both researchers and practitioners working in TCs. This unique comparative study identifies factors affecting the efficacy of therapeutic programs and proposes a grounded theory which aims to serve as an important source of information for therapists and other professionals working with SUDs treatment and for the replication of applied therapeutic methods in other TCs.

Choice, Behavioural Economics and Addiction is about the theory, data, and applied implications of choice-based models of substance use and addiction. The distinction between substance use and addiction is important, because many individuals use substances but are not also addicted to them. The specific aims are to articulate the shared and distinctive elements of these four theories, to present and discuss the latest empirical work on substance abuse and addiction that is being conducted in this area, and to articulate a range of applied implications of this body of work for clinical, public health and public policy initiatives. The book is based on an invitation-only conference entitled, Choice, Behavioural Economics and Addiction: Theory, Evidence and Applications held at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, March 30 - April 1, 2001. The conference was attended by prominent scientists and scholars, representing a range of disciplines concerned with theories of addiction and their consequences for policy and practice. The papers in the book are based on the papers given at the above conference, together with commentaries by distinguished experts and, in many cases, replies to these comments by the presenters.

Actual child-therapist vignettes are paired with each chapter's theoretical contributions. The reader is thus first transported to Winnicott's powerfully alive depictions of what happens in healthy and pathological mother-child interaction and then brought to see how these depictions manifest themselves in child therapy. No other work on Winnicott has applied this focus to the integration of theory and practice.

The First Episode Psychosis Services Fidelity Scale (FEPS-FS 1.0) is a highly reliable scale that assesses the degree to which mental health teams deliver specialized evidence-based care to people experiencing a first episode psychosis. The scale comprises 35 components each rated on a 1 to 5 scale. It has been used in the United States, Canada and Europe. It can be used for on site fidelity reviews, remote fidelity assessment or self-report. Published papers document its psychometric features and allow comparisons with a representative sample of US programs. It is suitable for research, quality improvement and accreditation.The Manual provides a practical guide for scoring a FEPS program against the criteria set out in the fidelity scale. It is designed to increase the reliability and consistency of ratings across different sites and assessors. It includes a definition and rationale for each component, data sources, decision rules and a structured interview guide. There are also modules to support training the key informant and data abstractor. Templates support structured feedback to programs for quality improvement. The scale can be adjusted to rate care for different diagnostic groups including the schizophrenia spectrum disorders, bipolar disorder and those with an attenuated psychosis syndrome.

This interest has been driven, in large part, by the findings of a positive relationship between religiosity and physical and mental health, subjective well-being, happiness and longevity. Furthermore, religiosity is now a subject in many disciplines such as medicine, psychiatry, sociology, anthropology, education, epidemiology, gerontology, social work, and psychotherapy. This book brings together in one volume the scattered studies of religiosity and subjective well-being carried out in different Arab, mainly Muslim, countries.
