- Abstract
The aim of the book is to deliver a complex comparative analysis of development, recent shape, and main features of party systems in ten Central and Eastern European countries (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia) that have entered the EU in the course of so-called Eastern Enlargement, and Croatia which joined the EU in 2013. The authors chart the traditions of party pluralism before the onset of communist regimes, political partisanship during the communist period, relations between parties and society, contemporary party systems, cleavages and – last but not least – governmental performance of political parties. The book can be used by experts in the field of comparative politics as well as scholars and students from related branches of social sciences and humanities.
