- Abstract
A new edition of the definitive reference for the diagnosis and treatment of TCSWritten by renowned specialists, the second edition of Tethered Cord Syndrome in Children and Adults is a comprehensive text on the essentials of clinical management for this complex disorder. The book opens with chapters on embryology and pathophysiology to provide clinicians with a solid understanding of the basic science of tethered cord syndrome (TCS). Incorporating the latest standards in neurologic examinations and imaging procedures, the book then discusses the functional diagnosis of TCS. Throughout the book, the authors provide insightful discussion of how to distinguish this disorder from others with similar symptoms and imaging findings. The final chapter summarizes current medical and surgical treatments of TCS, describing methods for preventing progressive and permanent deficits. Highlights:Delineates the three categories of'cord tethering'to aid effective management Discusses such important topics as in-utero surgical myelomeningocele repair and TCS-related aspects of clinical urology Provides expanded coverage of the treatment of adults with severe back and leg pain Covers management of late teenage patients whose care between childhood and adulthood is frequently interrupted Features more than 200 high-quality clinical photographs, radiographic images, and diagrams to illustrate key concepts The only reference dedicated to optimizing the management of TCS, this book is an invaluable resource for residents and clinicians in neurosurgery and neurology as well as other specialists caring for patients of all ages with TCS.(A co-publication of Thieme and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons)

- Abstract
A single-volume reference for managing pediatric spine disorders and diseaseIdeal for neurosurgeons, pediatric neurosurgeons, and orthopedic surgeons, Surgery of the Pediatric Spine is a comprehensive multidisciplinary reference for the surgical management of the most frequently encountered spine problems in the pediatric patient. An overview of developmental and clinical aspects provides essential information on biomechanics, neuroimaging, preoperative evaluation, anesthesia, and neurophysiological monitoring. The book goes on to present the surgical anatomy and various approaches to the spine and spinal cord. Chapters are grouped into easy-to-reference sections that are organized by type of problem, including congenital anomalies and developmental disorders; neoplasms; vascular malformations; inflammatory and infectious diseases; neuromuscular disease; trauma; and deformities. The book also presents special techniques for the treatment of spinal deformity, such as osteotomy, vertebrectomy, VEPTR expansion thoracoplasty, and fusionless techniques. A chapter devoted to the rehabilitation of children with spinal cord injury covers the principles and key concepts in treatment, as well as the possible secondary complications and challenges that are unique to pediatric patients.Highlights:Clinical insights from well-known experts in the fields of neurosurgery, pediatric neurosurgery, and orthopedics Detailed information for each stage of management guides the reader through clinical presentation, diagnostic studies, indications, operative techniques, nonsurgical treatments, possible complications, and outcomes More than 1,000 illustrations and images demonstrate key concepts Numerous cases in selected chapters illustrate management principles and treatment outcomes An invaluable resource for multidisciplinary approaches to patient care, this comprehensive text provides readers with a solid foundation in the specific issues associated with treating the pediatric patient with spine disease and disorders.

- Abstract
Anorectal Malformations in Children represents an international consensus in understanding and treating anorectal malformations. Interesting new topics include tethered cord, vaginal reconstruction, continent catherizable channels, and the impact on family studies by parents'organizations. The book not only carries on from the three previous editions by Douglas Stephens and Durham Smith (1963, 1971, and 1988) but assembles many new aspects in the broad field of anorectal and genitourinary malformations. Special attention is given to the new surgical techniques posterior sagittal anorectal plasty (PSARP), urogenital sinue advancement, and laparoscopy. The results of an international workshop of 26 international authorities on congenital malformations of the organs of the pelvis and perineum are presented. The new classification proposed at the Krickenberg Conference will enable future studies comparing the types and the results of treatment of anorectal malformations. The book is an invaluable reference for all medical authorities with a special interest in anorectal and genitourinary malformations
