Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major global public health problem, affecting nearly one in seven adults in the United States alone. This book focuses on patients with end-stage-liver disease (ESLD) who could possibly qualify for liver transplant. This patient cohort raises many problems: who should be treated and also, when is it too late for transplant? Portal hypertension is a relatively common condition, the complications of which are frequently life threatening.
